reading a book together

the raindrops platter against the window, creating a racket of noise but it was ignored inside the warm household. a duo sat side by side on the old couch, books in hand and their eyes fixated on the tale the words weaved together beautifully. it was like they were transported into a whole different dimension where dragons and magicians roamed free and the limit is limitless. on the small nightstand, a lit candle flickered. the sweet aroma of a forest wafted in the air, further adding to the illusion and you breathed it in. a smile grew on your lips. "good book, love?" arthur murmured, placing a bookmark on his page before giving you his full attention. his emerald eyes read your sypnosis quickly as you nodded. "it's well-written and the plot is unique," you explained. you stood up, cracking your stiff joints and groaning at the relief you felt. "want to lean on me instead?" arthur moved aside the pillow and you smiled gently. you sat back down again, this time leaning your head on his shoulders and your arm wrapped around his. this way, you could smell arthur's scent alongside the forest-scented candle; his cologne was different this time. it was more him, the scent of roses and the seaside somehow suited him. together, you both cracked your books open and continued reading in peace, ignoring the ferocious winds and the roaring thunder beyond the little bubble of peace.

tea time together

there is a soft alluring scent coming from the kitchen. it disrupts your work zone and invites you to investigate the source of it. as you exit your office and turn left, you spy arthur's golden hair in the midst of the grey monotones of the kitchen and smile. "sweetheart?" you call out, watching as arthur spins around with teabags of all shades in his arms. you chuckle and walk forth, pressing a small, featherlight kiss on his cheek before wrapping an arm around his waist. "what are you doing?" "just making tea, love," he returns the kiss to your cheek; his own cheeks were the shade of bright red as he quickly turns back to decide. "i just can't decide what to brew today..." you hum, using your other arm to hug him around the waist and bury your face in the crook of your collarbone. "teach me about tea?" "well, there's a lot to know about tea," arthur began. his emerald eyes sparkled as he rambled and that was what you loved most about him. how passionate he could get when he is talking about the things he loves most. "the most important thing to note is every tea has specific optimum temperatures to be soaked in. for example," arthur held up a packet of green tea. you noticed how it matched his eyes and quickly shook your head to clear your mind of thoughts. arthur gave you a raised eyebrow before continuing. "green tea doesn't actually need to be boiled at water's boiling temperature. somewhere around 70 to 80 celsius will do the trick. and only soak it for 2 to 3 minutes. any more and the tea will be too infused with green tea." you leaned in, taking a small inhale of the green tea before smiling. "smells nice, love. can we try this?" arthur nodded while grinning. his hands automatically began to grab whatever he needed as he spoke to you. "i had these imported thanks to kiku! the green tea from his place is simply divine; i don't know how i survived decades- i mean so long without it!"

behind arthur's little cottage, there was a cliff overlooking the entirity of the ocean. the grandness of the view always never failed to take your breath away, just like right now. you sat down on the picnic blanket and simply appreciated the view of the majestic sapphire waves and the glorious golden sunset above you. "darling?" arthur's frantic voice interrupted you but you turned around to wave. he let out a huge sigh before scrambling down the stone stepways and briskly made his way to you. "i was looking all over for you! you made me so worried!" his hair was frazzled and messy, unlike his normally gelled back appearance. gold strands fell onto his face and a sweaty sheen showed proof of his arduous running around to find you. you pat the space next to you, beckoning him to join you and he relented. arthur leaned into your embrace, nuzzling his face into the crook of your collarbone and your hand went up to gently brush his golden hair. his eyelids fluttered at the feeling and a light blush dusted his face. "this feels nice," he murmured lowly and you hummed in agreement. together, you both faced the sunset, where the skyline met the horizon of the endless sea in a beautiful kiss.

A small drabble for thee

Thick eyebrows scrunched together in frustration, and he laid the knife away with which he had been gutting the fox on the table. The blood smeared up his arms and down the front of his torso - it made him look all the more the part of a vicious despot in your eyes. 

"That is very rich coming from you. Aren't you proving through your mere words that what you say actually applies to you? Projection much, eh?", he replied, a sardonic smile on his thin, dry lips. 

Now that you thought about it, this whole set-up resembled gothic horror more than plausible reality. Arthur Kirkland suited the role of antagonist in such a genre too well, with his pallor and sharp angles, with his cynical disposition and skewed morality. What he was saying was just deflection and deception - best not fall for his tricks.

"Don't distract from the topic - we are talking about you and your failings. It has been so long since they have been addressed, and it is time that you get a wake-up call."

"Oh really, need I really remind you how you love to point out my supposed flaws? You do so, so often, and so often you just pull things out of thin air, or exaggerate minor matters, making dragons out of mice. Really, why should I take you seriously? I…”

You crudely interrupted him. It was all becoming too much and your anger was getting the better of you. It was also worse than it usually was when it came to him; today he was getting under your skin in a new, agonising manner. Just when you thought you had him, he just had to kick and hit and wriggle himself out of.

“You should take me seriously, because you are nothing more than a rotten corpse, a shadow of your former glory.”

“And you, should watch your tone. You are even less than my so-called “shadow”.” He interrupted his small triade for dramatic effect, and gripped your chin with a bloodied hand. By now, you were trembling with rage, and had to use the last vestiges of self-control to not explode. You wouldn’t win. 

“I’ve left my permanent mark on history, something you’ve never been able to do. For all that I’ve lost, for all that my current position in the world pales in comparison to my former power, I’m still more than you ever were, ever are and ever will be. 

“You would be absolutely nothing without me; you are only something because of me and even that is less, far less than my shadow. So shut up.”

He released your chin and went back to disembowelling his kill. You were dismissed; the conversation was over.

Unclaimed Island

Unclaimed Island bears this name only as a courtesy to the old tradition since for generations it was a motherland for many infamous pirates, gangs and a centre of criminal world together with a slave market. It was possible to find any kind of shopping, any information, just a right price was needed. For quite a long time it was also disarrayed and unorganised, there was basically no rules there. Maybe it was a reason why pirates liked it so much and even some regular sailors were there.

It was changed with arrival of Arthur Kirkland. He arrived there as a captured witch and a vessel off valuable information on Diamond Court, but instead of getting answers out of him and getting a hold of his magic, he caused a massive riot. There was actually quite a lot if people who preferred to have some changes after centuries of chaos and he was the one who took over the responsibility for Island’s improvement. He did some things that most people did not like such as abolishment of quite a lot of illegal places and activities (but not all, especially not ones that sold information), cancelled a market and started creating an economy for the island. As a result, he was able to start creating some other infrastructure other than pubs and brothels, so more sailors started coming over but shooing some other pirates. A legislative system was also created.

Unclaimed Island is very close to the sea border with Kingdom of Hearts so it was natural that refugees started arriving to the island. There was a massive amount of just regular civil people who searched refugee on the Island and it changed the nature of island drastically. It was still focused on the sea and sailors but it also meant there was more fishermen, schools for building and organising boats, some legal sea exports arrived. A huge amount of families also arrived there so laws became not too much but stricter and schools, nurseries appeared. Sailors still love this place and most of the pirates either, but definitely some part of them preferred other places. Additionally, political refugees from Kingdom of Clubs arrived and settled on the island, even though their number is still smaller than refugees from Hearts.

Current leader is Arthur Kirkland.

His one of the main helpers, right hand and his next successor is Willem Janssens. He is one of the refugees from Kingdom of Hearts so he was not really long on the island, but showed his dedication and determination in improvement of island. He is especially good at developing the economy of island, but not too talkative. His family still in Kingdom of Hearts and he personally saw how his younger sister was turned into the stone. During evacuation his smaller brother disappeared and he just hopes that he is still alive.

Two more important persons there are Herakles Karpusi and Gupta Muhammad Hassan. They are both main researchers who are helping with the investigation on the Catastrophe. Usually they give their findings to Arthur with possible leads, he searches for the artefacts, gives it to them and they try to either decipher it or to find a hint. They are quite strange duet from Kingdom of Clubs and Kingdom of Diamonds, but they worked out.

Tribes.

Despite world being mostly divided by Kingdoms, there are still tribes. Mostly they are worshipping world in a little bit different manner, more ancient one.

There are a lot of tribes all across the world, mostly they are accepted and no one bothers them. Nevertheless, the discriminatory trend in Kingdom of Clubs is quite concerning.

Witches.

There are three main witches houses that inherited the most of Dragon Blood’s power. They also created this way three main categories of magic: transfiguration, spirit possession and communication, and spells. Those branches are divided between main witch houses but they are not limited.

Witches are mostly located in Kingdom of Diamonds since they believe it was final resting place of Dragon. However, it brought them a great disaster that is called Witch Trials. 70% of all witches in Diamonds were killed and the rest started hiding. Those were the majority of witches overall, so they keep a big resentment towards Diamonds. Some of the survivors started wrecking the kingdom, bringing a misery but it is a minority.

The most open to the world is House of Potescu. They are located almost on the border between Kingdom of Clubs and Kingdom of Diamonds, at the middle of lush pine forrest. Thanks to their location, they were mostly unaffected by Witch Trials and they were able to live peacefully. Despite them being a Witch House, they live almost like a royal. They live at the lonely ancient castle, protected by the nature and hold truly aristocratic manners. However, maybe they look like royals, act like royals, they are holding a key to transfiguration magic. They are able to transform into different creatures and from the very beginning of life, they have a second magical form. This is what could be called werewolves but they fully control it. They also have extended life span. Current Head is Anica Popescu who prefer not to use his second form a lot, but his younger sister Marceline Popescu almost all the time uses it.

The hardest one to find is House of Bodevik. They do not have a permanent place to live, they constantly travel with spirits and lost souls. They can live in waters, they can live in firests, they can live among humans, as long as their ancient friends are with them. Spirit Realm is also the place that they can visit and possibly even call it a home. It is a chaotic and mysterious place where you see world differently, but they love it. They are usually not talkative and prefer to stay with their spirits, but sometimes they need communication with humans. They help spirits as much as they can, guide them, and protect sacred places. Current Head is Sigurd Bondevik, he is rarely seen and there are rumours that he spends most of the time with spirits in waters.

The most hostile one is House of Kirkland. These children of forest are hard to find, they are residing in the desolate forest in Kingdom of Diamonds, the forest is dark and covered in thick fog so people are avoiding it. They resonated with forest and use its wisdom to create even more spells, more magic to use. Both dark destructive magic and light healing magic are at their command, and for a long time they used that power even outside of their forest, helping anyone who needed it. However, with the beginning of Witch Trials, they had to mostly use its power just to defend themselves. Unfortunately, the past leader was violently killed but she left her four children in relative safety. Current leader is Scott Kirkland, he mostly specialise in Light magic. His brother Alistair focuses on runes and potions, middle brother Dylan started taming dragons, and the youngest specialises in dark magic.

So the premise is that Jeremy & Lollie (Self insert/ocs) Are transported to a fantastical realm and seem to gain magic. Along the path they meet with the heta gang (they're humans in this au)  who seemed to have also been transported there as well.

As soon as they stepped onto the grounds of Lightning Wasteland, Arthur jumped off the dragon's back before it touched down. As if guessing what was going to happen, the draconic form vanished a few meters before landing, and the earth touched only the exhausted human form of Gabriel, who was left on his hands and knees in the grass.

"That was splendid, my love!" celebrated the british, coming to help him "Are you-?"

The next thing Arthur received was a hard punch, turning his face to the side.

"I'm fucking furious!" Portugal replied “We could have made a horrible mistake! Do you know what would have happened if those phases had touched us? You're supposed to know the most about these things, Kirkland!"

"First of all … OUCH!" he held his cheek with an offended gesture “And second, whether I know, it does not make me an expert. It could fail."

"You can’t just say it would have failed, not when it comes to all of our mortal children" he snapped "Are you out of your mind!?"

"Stop complaining" he made a gesture. “Nothing happened."

He walked towards the roots of the Holy Hawthorn, sitting on them. Gabriel followed him and sat next to him, letting the branches cover them of the green sun, while the petals seemed to want to bathe them with their swaying.

“Ugh!” the man snorted, annoyed. "Stop using that condescending tone with me, or I'll beat the crap out of you, Arthur Kirkland."

“Okay, okay…” He held up his hands in surrender. “Don't be mad, Gabe. Enjoy the scenery.”

Portugal frowned at him, but agreed. Both of them, naked like two Adams in an Eden, together contemplated the horizon in silence for a while, while listening to the distant sounds of the Empty Sea and the howling of the winds that came from somewhere, moving the flowers that cushioned the ground under their bare feet.

"What an anniversary, is this your big gift?" he asked suddenly, to finish purging his misgivings. Arthur closed his eyes and smiled.

"Yes, it is an opportunity."

"Opportunity? Of what?"

“Of real peace,” he began, “. Serenity. The human world conditions us, binds us, shapes us and transforms us. We grow and change with our children, and that's okay, because it's the order of things. But each century that passes, each minute that we exist, I have noticed in our brothers, our cousins, our neighbors, friends and enemies, parents and children and lovers, in everyone, that we are wearing ourselves out. That the syndrome of Les Fleur du mal is upon us, and I don't want it to knock on our door; much less, our bed.”

The Englishman turned to see him and took his hands; his voice full of soft honesty, that which he rarely showed with anyone.

“I was anxious when I woke up today with that feeling of boredom. The Baudelaire monster that Bonnefoy tormented me with, which I made fun of it when he expressed his concern few years ago,” his mouth twisted. “What will become of us, immortal beings, when we simply get bored with existing?”

"That would be... counterproductive and dangerous."

“I panicked when I woke up, and stayed locked in that bathroom, trying to redefine myself in front of the mirror; but it only got worse, and it scared me even more. I thought it was because of our anniversary, but it's me," he confessed. So I thought that on these dates, where we feel more strongly what unites us, perhaps we needed a new motivation; to remember that we shouldn’t feel tedious, because our steps together are eternal, and our curiosity too," he smiled at him. “So we can have new experiences; even if it is an inner journey towards ourselves. We are so extensive that we can spread out and do just that, do you understand?”

Portugal listened to him with an good-natured seriousness, but attentive to each intonation and pause.

“I don't understand why you didn't tell me in the human world. We could have talked about it."

“You know it's not my style, Gabe. I decided to take the most complicated path... therefore, the most spontaneous and fun. Everyone thinks I'm a bitter old man with a Kantian routine. You, Francis, Kiku and Alfred know better. The only ones on the entire planet who know me for who I am… aside from my brothers," he touched his chest "I will never stop being Peter Pan, and that solace allows me to continue to exist without destroying everything, erasing the shadow of weariness in my path. Because I still see the light and new things to discover in the future, in the hearts of my people" he caressed his hands "I don't want you to experience that feeling, and to be reminded that beyond everything, we will always have adventures to live together. Like this one"

Gabriel stared into the horizon, smoothing his hair with one hand, and sighed.

“You … are unbelievable. We almost got caught up by our phases to merge and we traveled to the Dream World in our current forms, alerting the entire planet, only to get to the point where we can never be bored together. Is that message a gift?” He looked at him, between resigned and amused.

"You can't tell me it wasn't original, right?" Emerald green eyes lit up and he raised his thick eyebrows. “Also, it's nice to stretch your paws here. Almost all of us tend to forget that every once-in-a-while we should visit this place and reset, remember who we once were, to know who we will be.’

"Can that be known, querido?" Gabriel looked at him curiously. "We do not have the gift of oracles."

"No, but it's always good to reinforce the structure," he caressed the other's legs sympathetically, he had no scars on that plain, “where you’re standing. It helps a lot when everything seems to lose meaning under pressure.”

"Speaking of pressure... I feel uncomfortable here" he looked up, the sky now red between the white thorns. “Like it's not the right thing to do."

“It’s not the correct way. I built the Lightning Wasteland to be reached only by our avatar forms,” he said carefully. “We can change freely and all can be on this ground. But the reality is that the oldest ones have always remained here, together.”

Gabriel paused for a moment, his eyes widening.

"That's why the alliance was able to exist continuously," he realized. "Because it started in the Emerald Forest, but you used your Ancient Magic and laid it apart on this plain, and these phases-”

“- Who were entwined at our wedding may remain separate from the others, and from the hardships of the Great Gray Castle. Yes,” Arthur completed with a smile. “That's partially why our kids were able to hold her despite the whole history” he held the other’s hands, " For this is what is truly immortal and permanent: the love I have for you.”

Gabriel’s eyes filled with tears that did not spill, but he smiled as he rarely did in the human world. He took the pale hands and pressed them against his chest with force.

“We may never know how our story will continue; if it ends, or is transformed. However, if there's something my Permanent Self knows, it’s that this is real. You are a part of me" Portugal smiled more ". Like those ancient words…”

"Like those ancient words" the Englishman repeated, feeling emotional as well. "I still remember them."

Both sat straight, and both recited, whispering like a secret
