Whoops not done with Veilguard cocktails I guess. Looks like I'm making some for the factions in general, too.
THE MOURN WATCH
A deathly (and deadly boozy) cocktail with the floral whisper of Shroud's Kiss blossoms and ritual funeral herbs.
1-1/2 oz (45ml) green Chartreuse
3/4 oz (22ml) london dry gin
1/2 oz (15ml) elderflower liqueur (St. Germain or other brand)
1-1/2 oz (45ml) fresh lime juice
4 dashes orange bitters
A handful of drops absinthe for glass rinse
Optional: Brandied cocktail cherry for garnish (not a bright red maraschino, but the rich, dark kind)
Combine gin, elderflower liqueur, chartreuse, and lime juice in a cocktail shaker.
Add ice.
Shake well.
Rinse a chilled coupe glass with the absinthe by swirling it around inside the glass. Discard or drink the remaining few drops.
Strain the shaker contents into the glass.
Garnish with the cocktail cherry
----------
This one is a spirit-forward doozy, you're definitely going to want to chill the glass and drink it cold as the grave.
(I'm so sorry this one includes some pricey and/or hard-to-find ingredients in the US, mainly the Chartreuse, but it was just too perfect not to include).
EDIT: Adding a note based on a rec from @smoreofbabylon that Dolin Génépy can possibly be substituted for Chartreuse here. Thanks!

There's some dialogue between Emmrich and Lucanis, where it's mentioned that Vorgoth collects paintings. Apparently, Viago is into art (I forgot which Crow they mention rip). I need Viago and Vorgoth to hang out at an art museum together now.
Also, the conversation between Emmrich and Lucanis is one of the few times Vorgoth's pronouns are used, which is they/them. I love my floating robe creature of unknown origins.

I'm very normal about giving Salvus a parental figure who is closer to whisps and spirits than any other Watcher.

💌 A Brief Correspondence
A Brief Correspondence (2430 words) on AO3
Summary: … speaking of my environs, I’m off for a stroll with one of my fellows here; a former denizen of Treviso, north of the Free Marches. She has promised to give me a tour of the flora local to her birthplace, and swears to show me a “trick” to coaxing the Ansburg moaning willow into producing noises of its own, much like the osseous osier native to our own rocky clime! “Emmrich,” Rook whispers in his ear. -- Emmrich writes home to his friend and colleague, and Vorgoth reads between the lines.
Just some silly epistolary fluff and light smut and a doodle in honor of Vorgoth and Emmrook 🤷🏻‍♀️
Rating: Mature Relationships: Emmrich x female mage Rook Characters: Emmrich Volkarin, Rook (Dragon Age), Vorgoth (Dragon Age) Additional Tags: Epistolary, Fluff, Fluff and Smut, Humor, Fluff and Humor, Smut, Plot With Smut, Smut snippets, Implied Sexual Content, Letter snippets, Emmrich has a pen pal, Vorgoth is squinting between the lines hard, this one’s for me and the Vorgoth stans, okay fine I’ll desecrate the desk too why not, no beta we die like Vorgoth a thousand years ago probably Series: Part 4 of The Bell Tolls the Tempest

Vorgoth's Datamined Description!
Tumblr media
While I was digging around in the game files, I came across Vorgoth's character description, while we STILL don't know what Vorgoth is, I found it interesting nonetheless!
Pasting it for easier reading:
“Vorgoth is deep-voiced, solemn, and imposing. They are a member of the Mourn Watch, an elite group of necromancers from the kingdom of Nevarra. But what Vorgoth is exactly, their species, age, gender, whether or not they're alive, is a mystery, shrouded and masked in a cloak.
Vorgoth clearly has supernatural powers, however. Even their voice has an otherworldly echo.
Vorgoth doesn't speak much, and only in short sentences. As one of the Mourn Watch, they help guard Nevarra's sacred burial complex, the Grand Necropolis.
Like all Watchers, Vorgoth is also sworn to stop occult threats to this world, and takes this duty seriousy.
NOTE: Vorgoth is masculine in appearance (tall, broad) and voice, but their pronouns are "they/them". Vorgoth does not use they/them because they are non-binary (as opposed to our more typical (non-binary characters); they use them because they're a total unknown (and may be a pluralistic entity; in the rare instance Vorgoth refers to themselves, they use "we" not "I".)”

I keep thinking about that one tweet about Mourn Watcher Rook being basically raised by Vorgoth, so here's little Falk on his daily Necropolis stroll

I love the idea that when DK was younger, Vorgoth saw this kid and was like oh that a *baby* spirit.
And DKs innate playful nature tugged at Vorgoths own spirit nature. All spirits are a little mischievous, so they couldn't help but play along with the child's games

Credit where it's due, the game has some crumbs of good stuff in-between bad writing and cowardice to even mention uncomfortable topics (slavery in Minrathous, people killed by Antaam because you'd assume the guy called the Butcher would show it, elves having the worst time of their lives, etc).
For instance, I enjoy Mourn Watch for a wide range of reasons.
Amazing motto. Home in life, berth in death, a house of many mansions. It's so...comforting, hits just right in that wish to belong and the need for purpose. No wonder Alruna loves her place so much.
Venatori sneaking in to steal artifacts and secrets only to get fucked in the ass by the many, many horrors casually chilling in the Grand Necropolis and Mourn Watchers responding to the news like "Oh, these again. Could you fetch their remains, please? They're cleaning up after themselves one way or another".
The right combination of coziness and danger. Yes, you can enjoy a cup of tea at the quiet and peaceful Grand Necropolis cemetery, play hide and seek with the wisps or have a chat with a memory. But you will also fucking die if you venture too deep into the halls because you're not exactly in control here and you must respect the powers you're dealing with.
Your have one of the coolest looking bosses with the coolest name ever.
The entire setting of the Mourn Watch also doesn't contradict canon because there is very little information about Nevarran necromancers - and they prefer to keep it that way. Not entirely for malicious reasons, but because they have built quite a lifestyle for themselves and they don't need the Chantry losing its shit.
Maybe, it's also me having a thing for the most morbid and spooky-looking groups that are actually wholesome and benevolent.
