love how you can go from finding a a super mundane codex entry where sb's complaining about their neighbor's druffalo to reading about the most fucked up shit in about 30 seconds of running

i don't know how to put this into words yet so it makes complete sense so bear with me while i gather my thoughts, but...

i think a lot of the criticism i have re: decisions bioware made with veilguard are (at least in part) the company's direct responses to the (in my eyes) often unfounded and disproportionate hate that inquisition received from the fanbase.

If I had to guess, I would say Veilguard's target audience is preteens who have never played a Dragon Age game before, which is certainly a choice

like 1) varric made hawke his bussiness partner and is his bestie even if hawke sucks or is rude

2) varric was friends of anders FOR SEVEN FUCKING YEARS do you think in any point he could know what would happend. when they met, anders was having a free healthcare clinic risking his life to help people, how is that not being sure of his character. do you think varric now has a detector of "man this good person after several traumatic events WONT ever put a bomb in a building no matter what" . well according to da4 Yeah he got the perfect Good Person detector cause rook cant possibly do anything bad

honestly, i am enjoying my second playthrough of veilguard so much.

taking my time with the game and really exploring every nook and cranny of its environments offers so many cool moments.

yesterday i found two things that i loved and wanted to share bc i do appreciate that sort of love for detail.

during harding's quest you can see a manifestation of a titan watching you from afar throughout the mission:

a companion (in my case emmrich) even comments on feeling a "malevolent" gaze upon us:

when you turn back around, this figure is gone:

this figure appears multiple times during the quest.

2. minor quests that you may think are unimportant/tedious lead into new quests that do have an impact later in the game

yesterday i finally decided to do minrathous treasure hunt quest, expecting it to be nothing more than a tedious fetch quest.

it wasn't.

it lead into the catacombs below minrathous to a conspiracy of a demon feasting on the despair of dock town's citizens:

in general i can say that the level design in this game is actually amazing. it's truly a standout to me. i think if i had stopped at that one playthrough, where i completely rushed through the game just to get from point a to b, i would like the game much less than i do now.

also listening the variety of companion banter while i explored is genuinely a treat.

Sometimes I do think about how things are going to go in my BG3/DA fic. Future things, but crucial things.

For example:

Carver wakes up to Astarion's fangs nearly at his neck and manages to push him off. Astarion doesn't stand in this scenario, he stays on the ground, eyes wide and scared as he stares up at Carver, attempting to babble off some excuse. Carver pinches the bridge of his nose.

'OK, for a second, imagine I'm really stupid.'

'Not that hard, considering.' The words come out instinctively, an echo of their usual banter.

'Astarion.' Carver's voice is harsh, harsher than he means it to be, and he's bigger than Astarion, stronger and he's angry.

Astarion flinches, arms coming up instinctively to protect his head, but it won't matter. Everyone hurts him, flays flesh from his bones, starves him, buries him alive. Hands over his head won't stop the pain if they want it.

And Carver freezes, piecing together things remarkably quickly.

Carver, who tries to be kind and considerate and is so very soft, suddenly wants to kill someone.

btw know as we go into this game that i am going to be critical and say stuff that sounds like talking shit but it's because i genuinely love these games, they were part of my personality and what my mental health rested on at some point, and when i say that stuff it's because i loved them/the characters/the potential and i just want better from it in some aspects. i am excited. i am going to rag on myself for being excited. im one of the rare me:a enjoyers even and have invested hundreds of hours in inquisition so im probably going to really enjoy this game. but i am going to make fun of it and da as a whole also because lets be honest: it kind of deserves it
