New NeveRook flashing ⚠️ edit from Dragon Age Veilguard.
Music 🎧 Snow Wife - What Do Girls Do?
--------------------------------------
I'm now realizing that I'm obsessed with my first Rook (and Neve) after finally completing the initial playthrough. I've started a second as an elf and it's just not hitting like my Grey Warden enby Qunari Rook did. 😅
I feel like starting off as a Rook that Neve has to climb like a tree who is taller than basically everyone, makes other versions of Rook seem so short to play now and it just feels wrong. 😂
Anyway, Snow Wife's new song came out and it screamed to be used.
Up on the Tiktok in better quality too!

Davrin: So, Neve.
Neve: Hmmmm?
Davrin: Out late with Rook, I hear.
Neve: Oh, yeah. Just skipping stones.
Davrin: That all?
Neve: Why? You hear something different?
Davrin: Don’t need to. Rook had a bounce in their step. Wasn’t just for tossing rocks.
Neve: Well, you know Rook. Probably sprained an ankle.
Davrin: Right.
Rook: I heard that.

Warm, Safe [Rook/Spite] (WIP)
I won't get into my thoughts about the Rook and Spite dynamic because they are extensive and I don't feel like arguing with people on the internet about it, but I got the idea of my Rook cuddling with Spite and it would not leave my brain until I wrote it down so here you go. ^_^
Rating: G
Word Count: 456
-----------------------------------------------------
He opens his eyes to find that he cannot move. A warm weight presses against his body, but he isn’t trapped. Not like before.
Smells of fresh linens, and Savar.
Her head rests on his shoulder, arms wrapped around his middle. Unconscious, but not injured. Breathing slow and steady against his chest.
Despite being unable to stand, his arms are free. Some of her hair is covering her eyes. He reaches to move it behind a pointed ear, the way he’s seen Lucanis do it. (How else would she be able to see their enemies?)
She hums in acknowledgement as she stirs.
“Lucanis?” she asks. She’s learned to ask, knowing the answer might change.
“No.” he replies, with Lucanis’s voice.
It takes her a moment to process his response. She shifts atop him, and raises her head to look at him properly. “...Spite?”
He struggles to force words through his host’s mouth, but it’s gotten easier the more Lucanis grows to trust him. “What. Are you. Doing?” he asks her.
“Just sleeping.” Savar tells him. “We have some time, before we head back out again.”
“On. Us?” he clarifies. She trusts them, but she’s never been so close when Lucanis wasn’t in control.
“Yeah.” She remains perfectly still, as if moving might startle him.
“Why?” He’s learned to ask questions too. Rook always listens.
“Lucanis and I like taking naps together sometimes. It’s nice. Comfortable.”
He isn’t entirely sure why, but it is nice. Savar is warm, her clothes soft under his fingertips. Covering them like a blanket, while also keeping them safe. Lucanis would know if they weren’t safe like this. His heart didn't race, his muscles loose. The pleasant warmth of her form draped across him seems to keep his body relaxed, and his mind in the Fade.
“I can move- If you want to get up.” she adds. Her words are hesitant, almost afraid, but he isn't sure why.
He considers the offer. Normally when given control, he liked to explore their new home, but he and Lucanis had made a deal about letting his body rest.
“No. Lucanis. Wants this.”
Savar smiles, relieved by his answer. “Alright then. Are you still comfortable like this? Did you want to switch?”
“How?”
Her smile only grows. She leans heavily against his chest to stand. “C’mere.” she says, offering her hand.
She guides him to move until they’ve swapped places, with Savar against the cushions, and Spite laying atop her. One of her hands glides through his hair, gently smoothing it back.
“Better?” she asks.
From his new spot, he can react quickly to any approaching threats, while still enjoying the warmth of her arms around him. He soon understands why this makes Lucanis happy.
“Yes.”

I think that my Rook should be able to romance both Harding and Taash actually. As a treat.

Reposting because my OG watermark was weirdly fudged and so gross on the last upload.
Super quick NeveRook edit while I'm finishing another. Every time I have watched or played through this scene, Taylor's song yells at me like a compulsion when Neve says that friggen line.
Don't get me wrong, I love that she calls Rook that, but I felt compelled to share. 😂
Music 🎧 Taylor - I Knew You Were Trouble
Up on the Tok as well.

2024 Writing Round-Up
thanks for the tag @rookinthecrownest! it’s been lovely to meet some new writer mutuals thanks to Veilguard ☀️
words posted: 19,717 (which is way more than I thought!)
additional words written: throw in another couple of thousand because I throw away so much
fandoms: Dragon Age and BG3
highest kudos: noceur; or, one who stays up late with 68
highest hit one-shot: also noceur
new things I tried: a new fandom/pairing! writing for a zine (DA: Terminus, I’m so so excited to see the finished product). PLANNING
fic I spent the most time on: romance sonámbulo, without a doubt. I wish I could spend more on it (I will in 2025!)
fic I spent the least time on: noceur. it took maybe 2.5 evenings to complete?
favourite thing I wrote: the first Lucanis interlude in romance sonambulo and noceur are tied. Lucanis’ POV is really satisfying.
favourite thing(s) I read: so I haven’t read too much this year! I’m trying to get back into reading & sharing fic, but I also suffer with Everybody Is Better Than Me And I Wish I Could Write Like Them, so reading too much fic can also make me insane. here’s what I’ve enjoyed this year:
A World Alone by tollofthebells/@bitchesofostwick. Cullen/Trevelyan. so phenomenally written, characterised and plotted. everyone should read this.
Miss the Cook by @veorlian. early game enby rook/Lucanis flirting. Fran is not only one of the most wonderful people I know, but a fucking brilliant writer. everyone should also read this.
A Murder of Crows by @nightingaletrash was also on my list! Such a good read - another bastard of the Antivan king becomes a member of House de Riva. I need to read more so badly!!
writing goals for 2025: I have a couple of pretty simple ones. Write every day, continue/finish my current longfic for the first time, read more of other peoples’ work without being too self-critical. also get back to my roots by sharing the fics I stumble across and love!
new works: not new but I’ll be continuing romance sonámbulo if it’s the last thing i fucking do. anything else will come to me in a vision and I’ll spend a couple of nights writing frantically before flinging it on ao3 with no warning.
—-
tagging @veorlian @katuary @aymayzing @librivore42 @canavaris and any other writer mutuals who I’ve forgotten (PLEASE message me if you want me to tag you! my brain is goop whenever I try to create a tag list)

No Good Choices (WIP) - Rook/Lucanis
I posted a bit of this earlier in a reblog, but I actually have a lot more of it written. Will it eventually be a long-fic? Idk. But I'm still gonna write it!
Btw this is My Rook.
(Spoilers for The Decision in act 1)
Lucanis practically sprinted back to Treviso the moment Harding told him about the dragon. Of course he’d pleaded for Rook’s help, but he never actually expected her to show up. Minrathous was her home. The Shadow Dragons were her family, much like the Crows were his. He expected to face the dragon with the remaining assassins and either defeat it, or die trying.
So, when Rook brought Davrin and his pet griffon, armed to the teeth to help lead the charge, he couldn’t help feeling shocked. Happy, and eternally grateful she’d listened to his reasoning, but still shocked to his core when he realized they might actually have a chance.
After they drove off the ice-breathing monstrosity, Rook barely stopped to take stock of the battle before rushing back to the eluvian, determined to help Minrathous as well.
Lucanis only stayed to make sure the Crows had everything under control, before he took off to follow her. Contract or not, the least he could do was help her protect her home.
After what she’d done for him– for Treviso– he was fairly certain he would follow Rook directly into the Black City if she asked.
The second dragon attack left blight tendrils pierced through entire buildings. Countless innocent bystanders lied sick, or dying, in the streets. Even the Viper himself had been Blighted– an unfortunate consequence of taking on one of Ghilan'nain's monsters.
It wasn't lost on Lucanis that Treviso would have suffered the same fate if Rook hadn’t shown up to help. As he wandered through the streets in search of her, he silently vowed to do anything he could to pay her back.
Lucanis eventually found her with Neve and the other Shadows. Or at least, whoever was left of them.
“This is your city too,” Neve snarled. “I thought you… never mind.” she added, with a defeated sigh.
“I’m sorry. I thought I could be faster.” Rook answered. “I always planned to help Minrathous, but I couldn’t be in two places at once. If Treviso had-”
“Treviso?” Neve interrupted. “Don’t you mean Lucanis?”
Lucanis stopped in his tracks before either of them could notice.
“What?” Rook asked, verbalizing his own thoughts. “What are you talking about?”
“Rook, I’m not blind. Can you honestly say he wasn’t a part of your decision?”
“Hey, I made the call because someone had to.” Rook argued. “Don’t make it sound like this was easy.”
Neve wasn't convinced. “You knew the Venatori would take advantage of an opportunity like this. You made the Crow a priority because you’re sweet on him, and look what happened.” she added, gesturing to the devastation surrounding them.
Stunned by the mere suggestion, Lucanis waited for Rook to correct her. It couldn’t be true. Why would Rook sacrifice a chance to help her own city, just for him?
“Neve… I-” Rook began, but when she opened her mouth to respond, nothing came out. Her hesitation was enough to cement any of Neve’s doubts.
“I’m going to be here a while.” She turned away, preparing to aid some of the other injured Shadows. “You should go.”
The pain in Rook's expression as Neve walked away was enough to shatter his heart. Neither of them deserved this.
Before Lucanis could make his way towards Rook, Tarquin wasted no time in taking Neve’s place.
“You’ve been nothing but trouble since you came back.” He spat. “Half of us are dead, and the Venatori are coming for the rest.”
Lucanis had seen Rook slice through three Venatori with a single lightning bolt, stare down a blighted dragon, and taunt a risen elven god without even breaking a sweat. But under the scrutiny of a single Templar, all she could do was stare at the ground.
He witnessed the slow shift in her expression as shame and guilt gave way to rage.
“If it were up to the Shadows, I never would have come back at all! You were the ones who sent me into hiding, remember?”
“Because you’re more trouble than you’re worth.” Tarquin stepped closer, looking poised to strike at any moment.
“If I'm so much trouble, then why did you need me here so badly?”
“You know damn well we needed the help. I thought you were trying to make up for Nessus, not make everything worse. So much for putting the cause first.”
Lucanis felt the demon itching to weigh in. Spite fought for control to step between her and Tarquin.
‘He. Will not. Hurt Rook.’
On this, they were in agreement.
Rook did a double-take when she noticed Lucanis appear at her side, staring daggers into the Templar. Her surprise quickly morphed back into the stern expression she wore when giving orders to the team.
Tarquin simply rolled his eyes at his intrusion, no longer interested in anything Rook had to say.
“Rook?” Lucanis asked, looking for her advice on how to proceed.
“Go find the others.” She said, suddenly unable to look him in the eye. “I’ll meet you back at the Lighthouse.”
