Here's a thought:

Can Bobby, Chim, Hen, Maddie, Frank, Dr. Copeland, Josh, Brian, and Christopher just team up and lock them in a room together? They must all be getting as tired as we are by now.

Sometimes it is so clear that some people only watch this show for Buck and Buddie and it’s like THIS IS AN ENSEMBLE SHOW THIS IS AN ENSEMBLE CAST! other storylines are going to happen!!! This show is not the Buck and Eddie show with some funky sidekicks!! Like please, I understand wanting to see more Buddie, trust me I have been waiting YEARS to see them, but like … one, it’s not going to happen in 2 episodes??? (Nor should it but that’s a WHOLE other conversation) And two, this show is NOT about them! They are an Intercal part to the show and storyline, yes, but they are only a part! And in recent times things have been very Buck, Eddie, buckandeddie, and Buddie focused (yes those are ALL different) so it was bound for an episode to premiere where they are not the focus! Like can we please just enjoy the show and the story it’s telling and stop being all ‘what a flop of an episode’ ‘this was such a let down’ ‘I’m gonna stop watching until Buddie goes canon’, like y’all enjoy the show you want, watch for what you want, whatever, it’s your viewing experience but before you start yelling at the show and it’s creative team for making a “bad” episode simply because there wasn’t enough Buddie in it please, I implore you, to remember that that is Not the point of the show

Inspiration Saturday/Several Sentence Sunday

It’s still Saturday somewhere right??? For the fabulous @daffi-990 who conspired to bring this idea about. And also because I’ve maybe been torturing her hinting I’ve had a surprise for the last several days…

The Players:

Robert “Bobby” Nash - Asset Management (officially). Unofficially, a former banker who got tied up in a bad investment, causing him and dozens of others to lose everything. Bobby more than most. He’s a recovering alcoholic on a mission to steal from the rich and corrupt, and give back to their victims.

Athena Grant - LAPD sergeant who’s had her eye on Bobby for years, unable to catch a break in the case. He may be good at covering his tracks but she’s better. And Sgt Grant always gets her man.

Evan “Buck” Buckley - Associate. A young kid who steals for the thrill, but also to payoff his brother-in-law to ensure Maddie’s safety. Buck eventually winds up in Bobby’s company, sticking to his own agenda. Until the day that Doug’s asking price becomes too high and Buck finds himself needing a much bigger mark. Someone like…

Edmundo “Eddie” Diaz - war vet with a silver star and LA’s most eligible bachelor, who also happens to be pretty as sin. Oh, and has more money than god.

The Gig

Team up with Bobby to get the money Buck needs to save his sister, and hopefully get rid of Doug for good. Also, not allowing aesthetics to distract him from all the zeros in Diaz’s accounts. A target like this guy isn’t going to miss the amount Buck needs. Besides, it’s for a good cause. He’ll be in and out before anyone notices anything’s amiss.

Instead, Buck was left feeling a little bit wary. “I’ll send you a few audiobooks on it after you tell me how we can make this go faster. I’m missing lunch with my sister,” he shrugged, restraining himself from narrowing his eyes at the man, wondering if the officer’s slow reading was part of a farce too. As if answering his thoughts, Buck saw movement from the corner of his eyes. Leaning against the doorway was the figure of man he could hardly forget, and even with those shades he could feel that heavy gaze on him. “What are you doing here?” he squawked, mouth gaping at the unexpected visitor. Said visitor merely took off his aviators and walked in, brandishing his badge in one motion — face carefully neutral as he introduced himself to the room, “FBI, Special Agent Edmundo Diaz. Major Crime, Los Angeles.” He tipped his head in Buck’s direction. “Dr. Buckley here identifies remains for us.” Nonplussed, Buck amended. “I do more than just identify by the way.” “He also does podcasts.” Without missing a beat, a smartphone was brought out from that form-fitting suit coat he was wearing. Buck could only stare as the agent proceeded to carelessly toss the device over and across the table, somehow managing to land the thing safely in the other officer’s hands in a perfect arc. “That one’s pretty popular among the kids and college students. ‘Voices from the Vertebrae’, don’t know if you’ve heard of it.” Fully offended, Buck scrunched his nose. “Rude.” ...

There’s a terror that rips through Eddie at those words. Bone chilling. His sister is missing? His youngest sister? Who just had heart heart broken? 

“Dad, you need to call the police,” Eddie says. “She-she could have hurt herself. She was so upset. Have you called the police? Have you called her landlord?” 

“Slow down, Edmundo,” Ramon says. As if Eddie is overreacting to this fucking news. “We’re not calling the police. Sophia used her spare key to get into the apartment.” 

“Okay, and?” Eddie demands. 

“She packed up everything,” Ramon says. “She left.” 

“She left,” Eddie repeats dumbly.

“Of her own choice, Eddie. She didn’t leave a note. All her social media accounts are gone. This… This isn’t… She hasn’t hurt herself. She’s fled.”

It takes Eddie a minute to process all this. She just… Left? Deactivated social media and ran? She didn’t even tell Sophia?

“Dad, you still need to call the police,” Eddie cautions. “She still might hurt herself.”

“Well… Sophia agrees with you. Your mother is saying not to.”

And what on fucking earth could possess her to hold that opinion?

Buck gets the sense that there’s no point asking for anything more. They’re under strict procedures. His wants don’t really matter. 

“Okay,” Buck concedes. “Thank you.”

⚖️

He gets to talk to Maddie for maybe two minutes, rushed and sort of frantic, before they pull him away for more tests. She cries, not really believing they’re speaking. 

“They told me you were going to die, Evan. Oh, god. You’re okay. You’re really okay.”

“Maddie, how long has it been?” He manages to ask her before they pull him away. 

“Tommy brought you to the hospital eight days ago.” 

Eight days? Eight fucking days? That’s longer than he spent in the hospital after being struck by lightning. No wonder they thought he was dying. And how on earth does he feel fine now? 

They run every test imaginable on Buck. They draw so much blood it leaves him faint. Which, honestly? Might be for the best. It makes him spend a lot of those torturous hours napping, rather than fretting or being consumed with his own boredom. And even though he’s feeling better, he finds that his body is still quite tired. 

He knows well enough by now, the toll almost dying takes. 

He sleeps heavily, even when it’s only a brief respite. Like he’s slipping in and out of a dark, dreamless void. He has no awareness of what’s happening around him. 

At one point, he thinks he hears someone speaking to him. But it doesn’t sound like Dr. Hanson or any of the other staff he’s met. Maybe the shift changed? 

Can you hear me yet? Just barely? Hmm. It’s not yet time.

 The only thing. Because a house just collapsed on top of his husband and captain and he won’t be able to solve that himself. And still he falls to his knees in front of the collapse anyway, grabbing at pieces of rubble, shouting. 

“BUCK! BOBBY! BUCK!” 

“Eddie, stop!” 

There’s a hand on his shoulder. 

Eddie keeps grabbing at blocks of concrete and rebar, trying to toss them aside. 

“Come on, Eddie,” Chim says, pulling him away. “Stop. You have to stop!”

“HE’S MY HUSBAND!” Eddie protests.

“And he’s my brother!” Chim retorts. “What are we gonna do? Dig by hand? God, you two are really meant for each other.”

Eddie has no idea what that means.

“We’re going to get help, okay?” Chim says. “We’ll get them out of there.

Eddie stands up. “Yeah. Okay. Quickly.”

“Quickly,” Chim agrees. He lifts his radio to his face again. “Cap? Buck? You copy?”

There’s no response. 

Chim tries one more time. “Captain Nash? Firefighter Buckley?”

i might have started a new wip... and it might be grey's anatomy inspired.

here's some surgical resident buck and bartender eddie, plus a snippet bc im soooo excited for this.

"Hey, man! Are you Dr. Edmundo Diaz?" "Who's asking? " He asks with a barely there smile tugging at the corner of his lips as he swipes down the counter. "Evan Buckley, first year surgical resident." He smiles nervously. "But, uh, everyone calls me Buck." The man looks at him up and down and it takes everything in Buck not to squirm at the examination. "It's Eddie." The bartender says finally. "And I'm no longer a doctor." "Cool." Buck shrugs and takes this as his invite to sit at the bar, in front of Eddie. " 'Cause I'm barely a doctor and I'm desperate for a win. Could you possibly teach me how to do a perfect microvascular anastomosis?"

AKA The National Treasure AU in which buck is a huge history nerd, chimney is a tired tech guy and eddie is just trying to do his job

Dr Diaz's eyes flick from Chimney to Buck and his cheeks flush a pretty pink that Buck wants desperately to taste. He doesn't miss the sweep of his body Dr Diaz does, or the way he averts his eyes when he realises he's been caught.

Chimney nudges him, barely concealing his amusement at the situation, and jerks his head at the two seats in front of the desk.

"Good afternoon, gentlemen." Dr Diaz says as he stands up to greet them.

"Hi." Chim shakes his hand good-naturedly. "Howard Han."

Eddie turns to Buck, and something charged and heavy passes between them before Buck can remember to, you know, be human and shake the pretty man's hand.

"Uh, Evan Buckley. Its n-nice to meet you, Dr Diaz."

"Please," he clears his throat, "call me Eddie."

"Eddie." Buck nods, savouring the weight of the name on his lips.

"Take a seat."

They all sit down and Buck is alarmingly aware all of a sudden just how insane they're about to sound.

"Is, um, Eddie short for Eduardo?" Buck asks, a poor attempt to prolong the time when Eddie doesn't think he's talking to someone who belongs in an asylum.

"Edmundo." Eddie smiles at him, and Buck's eyes catch on a picture of a curly-haired boy with crutches on the shelves behind him. He's quite possibly the cutest kid Buck has ever seen.

Another frame catches his attention then, this one displaying an almost complete set of George Washington's campaign buttons.

"Wow." Buck traces a gentle finger down the side of the frame. "This is a beautiful collection."

"It would be." Eddie huffs. "If I could find the seventeen-eighty-nine inaugural."

"I found one once." Buck murmurs, a plan already forming in his head. He's been told a few times that his love language may be gift giving. Or acts of service. Or words of affirmation. So he's a love polyglot, so what?

Out of the corner of his eye, he catches the bewildered look Chimney is shooting him and clears his throat, blushing deeply.

"You, um," Eddie fiddles with a biro, "told my assistant that this was an urgent matter?"

"Uh, yes, sir." Buck barely resists the urge to face palm. Sir? Maybe he does belong in a fucking asylum. Chimney's never going to let him live this down. "Okay, so, I'll get straight to the point." Buck sucks in a deep breath and summons all the tact he has. "Someone's going to steal the Declaration of Independence."

Eddie blinks, slumping back into his seat. He stares at them blankly but, to his credit he manages not to laugh. He turns to Chimney who only shrugs.

"Its true." He grimaces. "Sounds crazy, but the woman is relentless. She wouldn't let a few hundred security measures stop her."

"Okay." Eddie drops the pen and folds his hands together, resting them on the tabletop and leaning forward in a way that makes his biceps bulge. "I think maybe you should talk to the FBI."

"Been there, done that." Chim mutters.

"And?"

"And they assured us that the Declaration cannot possibly be stolen." Buck answers. "But—"

"Well, the FBI would be right." Eddie's eyes dart to the phone and Buck pleads with the universe for even the slightest chance.

"We're not so sure." Buck leans forward. "However, if we were given the chance, the privilege, to examine the document—" Eddie cocks his head with a frown. "We'd be able to tell you if it were in any danger."

"And what would you be looking for?" He asks, exasperated and a little intrigued.

"We believe," Buck winces slightly, "that there's an encryption on the back."

"Like a code?" Eddie frowns, eyes dancing with mirth.

"Yes, sir." Buck closes his eyes and rolls them at himself. Welp, may as well lean into the crazy.

"Could you clarify?"

"A cartograph," Buck says at the same time Chimney mumbles,

"Treasure map."

Eddie's eyebrows jump halfway up his forehead.

"What my colleague means to say," Buck butts in, "is a map of..." Fuck, there's really no good way to put this. "Hidden items," he clears his throat, "of historic and intrinsic value."

Eddie stares blankly again.

"If it makes you feel any better," Chim whispers, "this is where we lost the FBI."

"You're treasure hunters." Eddie sighs and drops his head into his hands. God, even his exasperation is sexy.

"Treasure protectors might be more accurate." Buck corrects gently.

"Mr Buckley, I have personally seen the back of the Declaration," that really shouldn't make Buck hot under the collar, but he's a history buff, sue him, "and I promise you the only thing there is a notation that reads—"

"Original Declaration of Independence, dated four of July. Yes, sir."

Eddie flounders for a moment and, yeah, its a little disconcerting just how hot someone reciting historical facts can be, Buck can attest to that.

"But no map." Eddie recovers.

Buck bites back a groan and shoots a pained look at Chimney who only shrugs helpfully.

"Its... Invisible."

"Right." Eddie nods slowly.

"And that's where we lost the Department of Homeland Security."

"May I ask what led to your theory on this invisible map?"

"We found an engraving on the stem of a two-hundred year old pipe." Buck answers.

"A Mason's pipe." Chim clarifies.

"Can I see the pipe?" Eddie brightens.

Fuck.

"We don't, um, have it?" Chim offers.

"Did," Eddie leans forward, looks left and right, lowers his voice," did Mothman take it?"
