Anymore catalyst x horizon? I love this ship so much 😭❤️ I keep re-reading your other headcanons for them 😭
I'm glad you like my other work! Honestly astrowitch is one of my favorite ships in the game hdjdhaj I love them. I don't know if I have anymore headcannons that I haven't already said so I wrote a small fic instead, I hope you like it :)
Contains: hurt/comfort, established relationship, mention of child loss, grieving
I haven't written hurt/comfort since like middle school please don't bully me hdbsjsj
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
The room Horizon sat in smelled heavily of incense and herbs. There were many plants lining the window sills and pretty much every other surface in the room. The space was comfortable, it felt welcoming and friendly.
Across the table in front of her sat Catalyst, looking ethereal like always. She was wearing comfortable clothes, a knit sweater and some sweatpants. She held a deck of tarot cards in her hands, shuffling them expertly. Ah, yes. They were having their weekly tea date. Catalyst had offered to give Horizon a tarot reading, since she seemed more spaced out than usual.
"Just think about what's been troubling you. It could be in the form of a question, or not." Catalyst's voice cut through the silent room, it was smooth. Horizon closed her eyes and thought about it. The room fell into comfortable silence again other than the sound of cards being shuffled and placed on the table. "Okay, open your eyes. Let me see what the cards have to say."
Horizon sipped her tea, tasting like lemon and lavender, and watched her girlfriend flip over the cards. Her fingers were entrancing, the way they moved without stutter or hesitation. She always seemed so confident in her actions. Horizon couldn't help but be amazed.
"The empress, reversed... Five of cups... The sun, reversed... oh Mary, you poor thing." Catalyst's expression changed, and she looked at Horizon in worry. It was obvious the cards weren't saying anything good.
"You're gonna have to tell me what they mean, Tressa. I'm not a mind reader." Horizon joked, trying to cover up her nervousness at the situation. She hated being vulnerable. She was supposed to be the one to comfort others, so when the situation flipped around on her it made her feel weak and scared.
To distract her from her discomfort, Horizon focused on the drawings that adorned the cards. They were hand drawn, all signed with a small star and moon in the bottom corner. Catalyst had made them recently and insisted on giving every legend a tarot reading to break them in. Every reading so far had been pretty positive, singing praise of strength and intelligence. This was the first time Horizon had seen Catalyst so troubled by the cards.
"Are you sure you want to hear it? I'm afraid it will be quite harsh."
"I'm stronger than you think, dear. I can take whatever this deck of cards will tell me." Horizon faked a smile and gestured for the other to go ahead with the reading. Still, Catalyst hesitated for a second.
"Okay," Catalyst sighed. "I just want you to know that I'm here for you."
The Empress is often a sing of fertility and femininity. When reversed, it signifies an emptiness within a person or that insecurities are showing. It can also signify a lack of progress.
"I feel like, maybe you are struggling to heal from a trauma that happened in your life. You miss something, it's making you feel empty, and you haven't been able to accept that it will never come back."
Horizon stared straight at the card, not wanting to see the pity that she could tell was in Catalyst's gaze. She didn't agree nor disagree with the statement, she couldn't bear to lie, but she couldn't admit her struggle either. So she chose to sit in silence and let her girlfriend move on to the next card.
The five of cups is a symbol of negative feelings, and often even just the sight of it makes a person feel discontent. They may be feeling disappointment or like they've been let down by someone close to them. It is also often associated with loss, grief, and mourning.
"You're grieving for someone... or something." Horizon could tell that Catalyst knew exactly who she was grieving for. "You're mourning something that you've lost. This can be the same thing that caused that sense of emptiness."
This time, Catalyst reached over to take Horizon's hand once she was done talking. She rubbed her thumb soothingly over her girlfriend's knuckles, and suddenly Horizon was aware of how her hands looked in comparison to the younger woman's. Horizon wasn't old, but she definitely wasn't young either.
She didn't understand how Catalyst was so okay with dating someone so much older than her. Sure, the age gap wasn't even ten years, but most people felt weird about the whole "lost in a blackhole for 87 years" thing. Catalyst didn't seem to mind though, in fact, she thought it was super interesting how space worked.
"Let's get through the last card. Is that okay, Mary?"
Horizon just nodded, finding that she was too choked up to speak.
The Sun represents joy, happiness, confidence, and success. Somewhat obviously The Sun reversed is a symbol of depression, pessimism, and overall negativity. This may be something bad that has happened to a person, causing them to feel negative, or it can also be a sign that you are being too unrealistic and need to ground yourself.
"The last card is telling me that the cause of your emptiness, your trauma, is preventing you from continuing on in your life. You can't do certain things that you'd like to because of this negativity bearing down on you." Catalyst looked up when she finished talking while Horizon continued to stare at the cards. "Mary... I know you miss Newton."
"I don't want to talk about him, Tressa." For the first time since she entered the room, Horizon didn't try to fake being happy. Catalyst knew that she was grieving, and that fact made her want to hide away forever.
"That's alright, love. What can I do to help you?"
"Some tea would be nice, and maybe we can just sit together?" Horizon looked up into Catalyst's eyes for the first time since the tarot reading began. In her gaze, she found the pity she was afraid of, but it was mostly overwhelmed by adoration and care.
"That sounds lovely. Let me put a kettle on." Catalyst stood up from the table, gently letting go of Horizon's hand as she walked towards the kitchen. "I assume you'd like something calming? Lavender?"
"You know me so well, dear." Horizon smiled. As Catalyst busied herself getting the tea together, Horizon took to running her fingers over the drawings on the cards. Such delicate, pretty things, and yet they tell you all your fears and worries.
Oh Newt, how I miss you...
Look I haven't seen this come up in the tags, but I didn't look too long. I just wanted to get this off my chest
I am so mad. Why do they have to use AI art in the trailer? Aren't you making enough money with the stupid buster sword to "justifie" to pay a real artist??
Like.. I get it! You're not showing these for more then half a second! Why spend a lot of money on them? No one will notice! Right? - anyone who pauses the trailer even for a second notices something is off. Maybe they can't place it right away but the human eye notices somethings wrong.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Those two are just. Rough.
Valks nose is facing a different direction then the rest of her face, the belt buckles are melting, her left hand is a blob, the metal wing behind her back- i could go on!
Not a single pompom on wattson is placed or rendered right, the poor face an her sleeve looks in pain, the zippers, her right hand..
Tumblr media
This one is your main selling point! And you can't give him a proper elbow on his right arm?? His left upper arm is shaded like it isn't part of him. The zipper. The sword! is not! Straight!
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are fine enough I guess.
Wraiths fingers are a mess, her face is too shiny/pundgy, her hair change colour where they go near the collor, whatever. Horizons fingers are a mess- what else is new, the zipper, her hair, bla bla bla. Newcastle is probably the best? Or I'm already too tired with this shit to properly look at this mess. Idk what happened with his pauldron or wth is going on with his right shoulder/upper arm placement. But whatever at this point.
I'm just so mad
If EA or whoever says you can't pay an artist 20h on a pic you only see a fraction of a second in a trailer. I guess. But.. can't you pay an artist to work for 1h per piece to clean that shit up? I know we are probably past a point where AI would just be another tool in an artists belt. Because apparently the goal is to replace the need for humans in art. But idk. I feel like it could have been solved better. Anything would have been better.
would you mind writing a fic with ler!horizon x reader? maybe the reader thinks it was their fault for their team not winning in the final standing of the games and is upset about it, so horizon cheers them up? any scenario is fine though, just a prompt i thought of haha. have a great rest of your weekend! <3
Lifting Your Spirits
You believe you let Horizon down in your last match, and you haven’t been able to forgive yourself. Horizon seeks you out to comfort you and put a smile back on your face.
“Oh, fret not, darlin’. It wasnae your fault.”
Horizon whispered to you in a low, soothing voice while she rubbed your back. The two of you were in your room, and you were underneath a mound of blankets. Your back faced Horizon, and you stared out of your window with empty eyes. You weren’t sure how long you’d been laying there but, judging from the sunset, you knew it had been at least two hours. Earlier in the day, you were participating in the Games, and your squad didn’t even make it to the top ten. But, that’s not what was bothering you. It wasn’t the first time you lost, and you’d learned how to roll with the punches. There was one scene that kept replaying in your mind, no matter how much you tried to ignore it. In fact, ignoring it made it worse. You pinched your eyes shut as you mulled it over again, fighting back a fresh wave of tears…
The match had started out easy enough. It was a duos game, and you were paired up with Horizon. Dr. Somers was a gentle and nurturing soul outside the games; but, inside the arena, you’ve never seen anyone so determined.
Then again, if you were fighting for your family, you’d fight hard, too. That determination was infectious; so, as you went up against each enemy squad, you stuck close to her side. No one was going to keep her from seeing Newton again. Not on your watch.
That was the plan, anyway. And, things don’t always go as planned…
The goal was to maintain the high ground at the Grow Towers  in Olympus. From that vantage point, you and Dr. Somers were able to pick off any exposed squads. Your aim was steadily improving in sniper class weapons, and it showed. Although Mirage popped his ultimate in front of you, you focused on what you believed to be the actual one, and fired.
There was the sound of glass breaking, and then all that remained was Elliott’s deathbox. A clean headshot.
“Heh, not this time, Elliott.” you murmured under your breath, smirking. Horizon stopped what she was doing and gently patted your shoulder. You looked up to see her smiling.
“Good kill, darlin’! I see someone’s been practicing.”
“Of course! Someone has to keep that ego in check,” you answered, grinning. “After all, what are friends for?”
“I dinnae think he’d agree,” Dr. Somers chuckled, gesturing to his deathbox. “Alright, go collect your winnings. Newtie and I’ll make sure no one bothers you.”
You climbed off your perch to do just that. You knew Elliott would be stewing in getting wrecked, and you were feeling super confident. So, instead of just looting and leaving, you decided to show off. You threw down your holo-spray on top of his box, and blew a kiss to the camera. Even if he didn’t see it now, you hoped that he’d watch the match replay. After all, there was a high chance he’d call the whole thing a fluke, maybe say the sun was in his eye. You wanted to make it clear to anyone watching that there was no fluke here: you bested Elliott ‘Mirage’ Witt in a fight.
But, you’d picked a poor time to celebrate your victory. The commotion attracted enemy squads to your location and, before you knew it, bullets were flying in your direction. You yelped and, abandoning the box, you made a mad dash towards the ledge. “Dr. Somers!” you called, frantically waving your arm. “I need a boost!”
True to her word, Horizon returned the enemy fire to take some of the heat off of you. Then, she tossed a gravity lift to you and pinged it. “Here, love—”
But then, all of a sudden, there was a loud bang. Horizon cried out and collapsed to the floor, her gravity lift skidding across the ground.
Your heart sank to your stomach. You broke out into a run, moving as fast as your feet would take you to the previous position. “No, no, no…” you kept on repeating, gripping your weapon tight as you rounded the corner. By the time you got up there, you saw her attacker: Ash.
Ash had used a phase tear to reach you and Horizon’s perch, so she was able to sneak up on her. She’d downed Horizon with a Kraber, and was in the middle of her finisher. You drew your gun without hesitation and fired.
“Leave her alone!” You yelled. It looked like Ash was alone, that is, until her teammate dropped in on you. Revenant used his passive to climb up on the walls, laying in wait like a tiger in the grass. Then, when you showed up, he dropped in and shot at you with his wingman. Your shields and health fell faster than his; then, instead of just downing you, he charged at you full force. You screamed as you hit the ground, and he kicked your gun far out of reach. Then, chuckling, he hoisted you up with one hand, shoving you against the wall.
“Ah, ah, ah…” He hummed, tightening his grip as you struggled. “Doc was first in line. You’ll get your turn.”
“No, you can’t—”
“Shh,” Revenant cut you off by using his free hand to seize your throat. He squeezed hard enough to keep you from talking, but not hard enough to outright kill you. You gasped and clawed at his hand, trying to pry him off. He lowered you to the ground, so you could see Ash and Horizon.
“You’ll miss the best part.”
….
By now, you were crying, and the tears fell freely down your cheeks.
“It was my fault,” you answered, your voice broken up from your cries. “You got hurt, all because of me.”
“No, love, we were ambushed.” Horizon answered gently, frowning. She climbed over the blankets and knelt in front of you. She took your face into her hands, brushing tears away with her thumbs. “And that’s something that can happen to anyone in the Games. Even so, I know how hard you tried, and I’m proud of you for that.”
You didn’t respond, just crying quietly into her hands. Everyone had their reasons for participating in the games; some fought for fame, others for fun. But Horizon fought for her family. So, in your mind, your mistake put that much more distance between them. “But,” you hiccuped, “if something bad happened to you—”
“Aye, that’s a risk that comes with the territory, I’m afraid,” Horizon sighed. “ But dinnae worry, Dr. Reid’s been tryin’ to kill me for quite some time now. If she hasn’t succeeded by now, well…her superiority has seen better days.”
You nodded, but you still felt guilty. Horizon let go of your face and squeezed your shoulder.
“Remember,” Dr. Somers went on. “No matter what happens, whether we win the game or we’re among the first eliminated, I cannae ask for a better colleague by my side. You fight with everything you have, and that’s all I could ever ask for.”
A faint smile tugged at the corner of your lips. “Thanks,” you responded, wiping away what was left of your tears. Horizon smiled.
“It’s no problem at all, darlin’.” She answered warmly. She took a glance out your window. Now, it was dark outside. “Well, it looks like it will be a clear night tonight. Care to join me for a wee bit of stargazing? The fresh air may do you good.”
You followed her gaze. If anyone else had asked you to do anything tonight, you wouldn’t hesitate to decline. But, Horizon had a warm and comforting presence, and you didn’t mind her company. “Okay, sure.”
Horizon smiled. “Great, I’ll brew us up some tea. Just remember to bring a jacket, it may be cold.”
It was a clear night indeed, and the sky was covered in a blanket of stars. Horizon was gushing about the various constellations, but you had trouble seeing them.
“Where?” You asked for the umteenth time, squinting your eyes as if it’d help you see better. Horizon giggled and turned your head in the right direction.
“There, dear. That’s Orion and his belt, if you follow the line of stars going there, and there.” Mary answered. Her other hand was on your shoulder, idly tracing the pattern against your skin. You shivered, and your shoulders stiffened.
“Hehey,” you giggled, leaning away from her hand. “That tickles.”
Mary stopped, keeping her hand still. “Oops, sorry, love.” There was a beat, and then she gave you a small smile. “Though, it was nice to see you smile for a bit.”
You nodded, not giving what she said much thought. You returned your attention to the stars, and she followed suit.
“Let’s see now, next we have Orion’s belt, there.” Dr. Somers explained, pointing to the sky. “And, if you put a straight line through it and travel south, you’ll come to Sirius…”
 You felt her tracing against your skin again while she spoke. Though, this time, she ended her statement with a deliberate tap at the side of your neck. You flinched.
“Dr. Somers!” You yelped, raising your shoulders. “You did that on purpose.”
“I’m sorry, you just look so glum.” Horizon gently swiped her fingertips against the back of your rib cage. You folded like a lawn chair, and wrapped your arms protectively around your torso. “I’m only trying to get you to smile.”
“Ah, it’s okay. You don’t have to,” You tittered, instinctively leaning out of her reach. Horizon chuckled and propped herself up onto her knees.
“Well, I’d like to. After all, what else are friends for?” She echoed, now grinning brightly.
Your eyes widened with realization, and you backed up even further. Horizon followed after you.
“Come here, darlin’.” She extended her arms out towards you, and her fingers wiggled. You shook your head, grinning.
“...N-Noho,” You snickered. Your eyes darted between her hands and the area around you, searching for an escape route. Suddenly, Dr. Somers lunged forward and wrapped her arms around you. You squealed and raised your hands defensively. Although she hadn’t started tickling, you were giggling up a storm. “Nohoho, dohohn’t!”
“What ever is the matter, (Y/N)?” Horizon giggled. She wasn’t holding onto too tightly, so you could’ve pulled away. But, you were giggling too hard to notice. “I haven’t done anything. What’s so funny?”
“Dohohn’t do it, plehehease,” you pleaded. You grabbed her wrists  and, much to your surprise, Dr. Somers scooped your hands into hers. She fluttered her fingertips against your palms. You didn’t expect it to tickle, but it did, and it made you giggle louder. “Nahaha dohohn’t!”
“Don’t what, love?” She asked, giggling along with you. After a few more scritches along your palms, she wrenched her hands free, and went for your sides. She poked at them, finding a new spot to poke at whenever your arm blocked her. Eventually, it was hard to keep up with her, and you were squirming around in her arms, squealing and giggling.
“Tihihickle mehehehe!”
You said it before you could process it. Horizon smirked and gave a quick scribble across your stomach, making you let out a sudden shout of laughter. You threw your arms around yourself for protection, but she always seemed to find ticklish spots that weren’t covered.
“Well, I’m trying! But you’re makin’ it a wee bit difficult,” She teased. She returned to your sides and squeezed them. You doubled over, keeping your arms wound tight around your torso. Dr. Somers guided you to the ground so you wouldn’t hurt yourself.
“Nahahahat whahaht I meahahahnt!” You cried out. You gave up on trying to block access with your arms, and batted at her hands instead. “Dohohohon’t tihihihckle mehehee!”
Horizon laughed. “But you just asked me to!” she argued. For the most part, she was still able to tickle you, even if she had to pause to shake off your hands. She went higher, tickling the spaces between your ribs. She alternated between poking and gentle scratches, and you yelped.
“I dihihdn’t!”
“You did! C’mon dear, I’m just trying to cheer you up!” She swiped her fingers along the length of your rib cage, up and down, until her hands came just shy of your armpits. You clamped your arms down, and your giggles spiked up to laughter.
“I’m nahahaht sahahahad! Plehehehase,” You held your arms flat against your sides, so Mary couldn’t reach your armpits. So, she went for your neck, burrowing her fingertips into the space between your neck and shoulder. You scrunched up your shoulders and trapped her hand, but it didn’t stop her from tickling. “I’m okahahahahahy!”
Horizon stopped tickling. She pulled her hand free, waiting for your laughter to calm down. “Are you sure?” She asked with genuine concern. She tenderly stroked your cheek with her thumb. “Because I don’t want you thinking that you’re anything less than a wonderful friend to me.”
You nodded. You felt a brief pang of guilt again as you recalled what happened, but you shook it away, and met Mary’s eyes. “Yes,” you answered, nodding some more. “I’m sure.”
Mary looked at you for a moment and, although she didn’t say it, she wasn’t convinced. She knew a sad look when she saw one. But, instead of calling you out, she gave you a smile. “I’m happy to hear it, darlin’. But, just to be doubly sure…”
You gave her a confused look. It seemed like she was about to let you up, but Horizon had other ideas. Her smile brightened as she wiggled her fingers at you again. You gasped.
“Wait!” You yelled. You immediately dropped your hands back over your torso, giggling nervously. “Wahahait! I’m okay, Dr. Somers! I feel a lohoht better!”
“Oh, I believe you, (Y/N). But, you know what we scientists say,” She hummed, holding her hands just a few inches away from your torso. “If at first you succeed, best replicate your work and do it again.”
You’re not sure what came over you but, before she could tickle you again, you reacted first. Your hands shot forward and ended up on her sides. Dr. Somers faltered and moved to stop you, but it was too late. You tickled her the same way she tickled you; a light touch, with fast wiggling fingers that were almost impossible to keep up with. Horizon dissolved into giggles almost immediately.
“Whoahaha! Nohoho dehaharie!” She tried to catch your hands, but you stayed ahead of her, suddenly sticking your hands underneath her arms. Mary squealed and brought her arms down. She laughed for a good three minutes before saying, “I wahahas ohohnly tryin’ to hehehlp youhuhu!”
“You did help me, Dr. Somers!” You grinned, using your thumbs to prod into her armpits. Horizon keeled over, and you took the opportunity to kneel over her legs. “But now, it’s your turn to laugh.”
And she did. You weren’t sure if she was that ticklish, or just completely caught off guard, but it didn’t take much for you to get her laughing. You were still tickling her armpits and moved your fingers in a spider-like motion, scritching over every patch of ticklish skin. Dr. Somers was holding onto your wrists, but not tight enough to deter you. You used your thumbs again to scratch circles into her armpits, making her toss her head back with louder laughter.
“(Y/N) NOHOAHAHAHA!” Mary yelled. She squeezed her arms against her sides as you tickled faster. You chuckled and pulled your hands free, squeezing down to her rib cage. Dr. Somers inadvertently snorted, and her squirming turned much more frantic. “PLEHEHEHASE! NOHOHOT THEHEHERE!”
“Where, doctor?” You feigned innocence and gently squeezed at each rib. Horizon’s grip on your wrists tightened, and her legs drummed against the floor.
“THEHEHRE—AH!”
You skittered your nails at her centermost ribs, making her yelp again. She fell back into her laughing fit as you repeated the motion, throwing in a squeeze now and again to keep her guessing.
“There? C’mon, doc, you’re a scientist.” You teased, having to speak up over her laughter. “I know you can be more specific than that!”
But, as fun as this was, and despite Horizon loving to see you in a better mood, it was time for her to flip the script. Literally.
Since she was still holding onto your wrists, and your attention was fixed on tickling her, Mary had an escape route. When you decided to switch spots, targeting her stomach, she curled into a ball. She pulled you along with her as she moved, and you were thrown off balance. Mary used the momentum to drag you to the ground with her, and was quick to squeeze at your hips and waist.
 You screamed, arms and legs flailing, and Horizon trapped you further in her arms. You tried to grab her hands, but she jumped to a different spot, lightly clawing at your belly.
“NONOAHAHA! SOHOHRRYSOHORRYSORRY!” You yelled. You wriggled to and fro in her arms, trying to flee, but Dr. Somers kept you right where you were.
“Aw, there’s no need for that love! I’m not cross with you,” Horizon slowed the tickling down, so that her fingertips barely stroked over your belly. You giggled desperately, finally able to grab her hands. Dr. Somers grinned, allowing it, only to pull away seconds later and reach under your arms. By the time you brought your arms down, she was already scritching away at the hollows. “But I’m still gonna getcha back!”
You held your arms tight against your body, rocking side to side. “Okahahahahy!” you yelped. “You gohohohoht mehehehehe!”
Horizon chuckled. She pulled one of her hands out of your armpits and prodded down your rib cage, making you jolt. She poked more deliberately at your tummy, and laughed along with you as you snorted. “Your laugh is so cute, (Y/N).”
Your cheeks flushed, and you weakly batted at her hand, still giggling your head off. Dr. Somers could tell you were getting tired. So, after pulling her hand away one more time, she scribbled all over your torso, moving at a speed that would make Octane jealous. Your frantic giggling turned into loud laughter, and you bucked your hips.
“DR. SOHOHOHOHMERS!” You cried out, folding again as she lightly jabbed into your midsection. “PLEHEHEHEASE!”
Seconds later, Horizon stopped, and she squeezed you affectionately. “Alright, alright, I’m finished. I suppose that was enough revenge for one day.” She giggled. You slumped back against her, breathing deeply. She peeked down at you after a few minutes of silence. “How’re you feeling, darlin?”
You looked up at her, and the smile you gave her was brighter than any star she’d seen. “Much better, Dr. Somers. Thank you.”
A/N: I apologize for the long wait, but I really hope you liked the story!
Columbo in "Broken Gravity"
For some reason I was possessed to write an Apex/Columbo fanfiction where Columbo investigates Ash's attempted murder of Horizon.
I'm well aware that the intersection between these two fandoms is likely minuscule but once I had the idea, I couldn't help myself.
You can find it here: https://archiveofourown.org/works/45550297
Day 2 - Family
"Family had always been a difficult thing for Ashleigh."
All drabbles will be compiled on my ao3 at the end of the week so keep an eye on @marvelatthisarchive <33
------------
Family had always been a difficult thing for Ashleigh.
Her own had never been very big nor very welcoming.
It made things harder to navigate than they should have been.
Feelings she was no longer used to, feelings she no longer knew.
--
There was a strange warmth in her chest as she watched Mary and Newton.
They knew a peace far different from any she had ever experienced.
A bitterness she had to quell when dwelled on for too long.
--
Ashleigh was part of their family now.
Apparently.
She didn’t understand it.
She was Dr Somer’s assistant, she was anything but family.
Why were they treating her as if she was one of them?
--
Family felt nice.
Family had felt nice.
She’d had to ruin that, of course, but it had been nice while it lasted.
Being able to feel safe, being able to feel secure in her job.
Even just for a little while.
But every good thing had an end.
This one… rather explosive.
At least one of their little family would survive.
