Hormones. Female hormones. Now, what is it that gives a woman's skin that silken texture? Why does she keep her hair when so many men lose theirs? Hormones! Female hormones!
Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde (1971) dir. Roy Ward Baker
#dr jekyll and sister hyde#filmedit#horroredit#mygifs#this has some really clever in camera tricks for the transformations#shockingly good#trying to watch more hammer movies as that's my biggest horror blind spot

HORROR'S NEXT TOP GENDER, ROUND ONE MATCH NINE: Sister Hyde (Dr. Jekyll and Sister Hyde) vs. Elizabeth Shelley (Frankenhooker)
PROPAGANDA FOR HYDE:
"As you might guess from the title, Dr Jekyll in this version is transformed into a woman, so the trans reading is obvious. She is incredibly charismatic and seems to enjoy existing as a woman so much. Technically she is evil and murdering people and whatever, but it's impossible not to root for her"
PROPAGANDA FOR ELIZABETH:
"She's like peak performance. Girl made out of various girl pieces. She's iconic, and has trans vibes to me. Idk but she gives me gender envy!"

Fascinated by the decision to give the blind man a white cane in the 19th century. Just in case the reflective glasses and the way he clearly couldn’t see anything on screen in front of him wasn’t enough.
Big fan of the foggy/grainy exposure on the nighttime outside scenes.
Also very impressed by Mrs Hyde’s impromptu dress making skills from a curtain.
Not to mention, Jekyll’s intense joy at transforming himself into Mrs Hyde and delighting in her femininity and being horrified by the re-growth of his masculine body hair.
“I was caught in a terrible trap. To continue my work I needed Sister Hyde yet all the time I became more and more aware of her growing dominance within me, a dominance I no longer had the strength to fight, contain or control.”
#not specifying a year because Jack the Ripper was in 1888 and Burke & Hare were active in 1828#and the novel is set in the early 1800s but no year#so there’s a bit of hand waving going on already re timelines#my own post#dr jekyll and sister hyde#dr jekyll and mr hyde
