I’m sorry but the Downtown character bio blaming Serena for her bad taste in men and not “knowing a nice guy when he’s in front of her” leaves a bad taste in my mouth because it feels like it’s implying that Alex is that ‘nice guy’ when Alex wasn’t nice. He fetishized Serena for being goth and only wanted her because she was goth. Alex wasn’t the “nice guy” she overlooked, she gave him a chance, got to know him, broke up with her abusive boyfriend, figured she’d stop dating junkies and convicts and creeps who like to fetishize her only for Alex to ignore her once she stopped dressing as his fantasy. Alex wasn’t a nice guy, he was just a little better at hiding his sleazy behavior before he revealed his true colors.

On that note if Downtown ever gets a revival I think that Serena should get a girlfriend.

Alex would be more of a relaxed nerd (especially compared to The Eltingville Club). He does own action figures, comics, and mags, but he’s def not a crazy fanboy. He would be Bill and Josh’s arch nemesis, as they’d try to test him and his friend’s knowledge of nerd culture, but he still wouldn’t give af about them. But he’d be thoroughly entertained!

When he said that I was like who’s kid’s but then I realized he was referring to Chaka, Mecca , Matt , and Fruity. They’re kids because, they’re all at least 17 (they go to high school) and Alex , Jen , and goat are around their 20’s.

You can tell when someone didn’t watch MTV’s Downtown by the way they romanticize Alex and Serena’s relationship (tbh it’s mostly dudes) like they just watched the first three episodes maybe and decided “I want that” and blatantly disregarding the fact that Alex fetishized Serena simply for being goth. Like the only reason he wanted her was because she was goth and not only that, dude said to her face that he’d like her no matter what she wore and when she switched up on him to test him, then he totally ignored her and avoided her and only showed interest in her again when she started dressing goth again

And Serena wasn’t all innocent too. She made fun of nerd culture and geek culture and basically told Alex that she thought he was one of those weird losers who obsessed over toys and did only start showing interest in him when he started dressing “cool” (when he was sleep deprived and a mess) but the difference with Serena is that I think she actually started to warm up to Alex and like him for who he was when he stopped hiding who he was to try and impress her

It just goes to show that no matter how many chances you give a guy, the moment where you’re the one to finally switch up, he’ll be running for the door.

It’s like those guys online who’ll fetishize goth girls and claim they want a “goth dommy mommy” but as soon as the goth girl gets too weird for them or starts dressing different for their own reasons they drop them for the next goth girl and the cycle repeats.
