Have YOU got an old Windows PC Microsoft has told you can't run Windows 11? It's time to give it a new life!
How to install Windows 11 on unsupported PC Hardware using Rufus. You can also disable some other Windows 11 bullshit like data harvesting and needing a Microsoft account.
It has been in the news a lot lately that Windows 11 isn't allowed to be installed on PCs without certain requirements, including the TPM 2.0, a chip that was only included in PCs made in 2018 or later. This means that once Windows 10 stops receiving security updates, those PCs will not be able to (officially) run a safe, updated version of Windows anymore. This has led to an estimated 240 million PCs bound for the landfill. Thanks Microsoft! I get you don't want to be seen as the insecure one, but creating this much waste can't be the solution.
(I know nerds, Linux is a thing. I love you but we are not having that conversation. If you want to use Linux on an old PC you are already doing it and you don't need to tell me about it. People need Windows for all sorts of reasons that Linux won't cut.)
So lately I have been helping some under privileged teens get set up with PCs. Their school was giving away their old lab computers, and these kids would usually have no chance to afford even a basic computer. They had their hard drives pulled so I have been setting them up with SSDs, but the question was, what to do about the operating system? So I looked into it and I found out there IS actually a way to bypass Microsoft's system requirement and put Windows 11 on PCs as old as 2010.
You will need: Rufus: An open source ISO burning tool.
A Windows 11 ISO: Available from Microsoft.
A USB Flash Drive, at least 16GB.
A working PC to make the ISO, and a PC from 2018 or older you want to install Windows 11 on.
Here is the guide I used, but I will put it in my own words as well.
Download your Windows 11 ISO, and plug in your USB drive. It will be erased, so don't have anything valuable on it. Run Rufus, select your USB drive in the Device window, and select your Windows 11 ISO with the Select button. (There is supposed to be a feature in Rufus to download your ISO but I couldn't get it to work.?
Choose standard windows installation, and follow the screenshot for your settings. Once you are done that, press Start, and then the magic happens. Another window pops up allowing you to remove the system requirements, the need for a microsoft account, and turn off data collecting. Just click the options you want, and press ok to write your iso to a drive.
From there you just need to use the USB drive to install windows. I won't go into details here, but here are some resources if you don't know how to do it.
Boot your PC from a USB Drive
Install Windows 11 from USB Drive
If you had a licensed copy of Windows 10, Windows 11 will already be licensed. If you don't, then perhaps you can use some kind of... Activation Scripts for Microsoft software, that will allow you to activate them. Of course I cannot link such tools here. So there you go, now you can save a PC made from before 2018 from the landfill, and maybe give it to a deserving teen in the process. The more we can extend the lives of technology and keep it out of the trash, the better.
Additional note: This removes the requirement for having 4GB Minimum of RAM, but I think that requirement should honestly be higher. Windows 11 will be unusable slow on any system with below 8GB of RAM. 8GB is the minimum I think you should have before trying this but it still really not enough for modern use outside of light web and office work. I wouldn't recommend trying this on anything with 4GB or less. I am honestly shocked they are still selling brand new Windows 11 PCs with 4GB of ram. If you're not sure how much RAM you have, you can find out in the performance tab of Task Manager in Windows, if you click the More Details icon on the bottom right. If you don't have enough, RAM for old systems is super cheap and widely available so it would definitely be worth upgrading if you have a ram starved machine you'd like to give a new life.

I was thinking about how delighted Patrick was all year over their ability to play any song from their repertoire -- including songs they never even released -- and have it be recognized and have people sing along, and I was thinking how much this is really a function of the digital era. Like, before digital music, obviously you had devoted fans who knew every word to everything you released and exchanged black-market copies of demos...but the scope and scale of this was smaller. Physical media requires not just effort but money to exchange. Not everyone has a ton of disposable income, and not everyone is old enough to be going back and forth to the post office or meeting up with people to make exchanges.
But in the digital era, that's not necessary. Someone finds the piano version of Young and Menace and boom, it's up on YouTube and the rest of us can hear it effortlessly. Pavlove gets downloaded and lives forever. So does Legendary. The reason Patrick was able to get those crowds singing along with him was because the digital era expanded the reach. He could always get those people, and he knew it, but they were a smaller number and they felt swallowed up by everyone else. But now the number is HUGE.
I think about when I first knew about fall out boy in the early 2000s. I knew the video on TRL. It would have been effort for me to go out and track down their songs otherwise, to learn more about the band. When I found them again in the late 2010s, I could listen to their entire discography on Spotify, start to finish. And what wasn't there I could find through a Google search. I could discover everything about them for virtually no effort and very little cost.
And I know there are lots of issues with streaming but it is kind of wondrous to me that I was able to fall so easily down this rabbit hole, for basically no initial cost but my Spotify subscription, but then it has led to me spending soooo much money on concerts and merch, I own multiple FOB albums and I don't even have a record player lol, and so the modern streaming digital era allowed me to develop a relationship with this band I would never have had otherwise. And I know I'm not alone. I know a lot of those crowds that delighted Patrick so much as people just like me. We would have always been there all along, we just needed access.

Babel
Wah semalam sebelum tidur aku berhasil menyelesaikan juga si Babel-nya Kuang. Berujung baru tidur jam 2 apa yah atau setengah 3 gaktau juga karena gak liat jam sebelum tidur. Sesungguhnya agak susah nyelesaiin part terakhir, mulai Book V udah mayan chaotic dan uncomfortable to read (karena violence dan chaos is always uncomfortable aja sih, humane banget menurutku kalau kita always look for routines, comfort, calmness, serenity). Overall bukunya jauh lebih bagus dibandingkan Yellowface (yaiyalah secara genre aja udah beda banget). Instead of entertaining atau healing (seperti buku-buku translate-an Japanese author yang kubaca recently), buku fiksi ini bikin lebih banyak mikirnya. Walaupun ku suka banget sih karena konteksnya ya colonialism, imperialism, gimana British empire ini ruthlessly running people’s lives. Terus juga diselingi dengan new linguistics knowledge, ethymology, some cultural knowledge juga tentang gimana global economics setting di early 19th century. Basically everything I currently like except music and rocks.
Plus, buatku personally, ya cerita ini aku bisa relate banget. Hidup di academia, di Oxford, pas Robin lagi jalan ke satu tempat ke tempat lain, mentions of High Street, Summertown, St.Mary’s chapel, Radcam, ku betul-betul bisa memvisualisasikan Oxford REALLY well because I live in Oxford. Jadi memang ada emotional attachment-nya juga.
Sekarang lagi mau move-on ke Chimamanda Ngozie’s Half of a yellow sun (yang kutemukan tergeletak di common room Castle Mill block A – my guess is someone’s leaving and had to give up the books so they put it there for anyone to pick up. Ceritanya mayan intriguing, took place di Biafra, state di (sekarang) Nigeria yang sempat merdeka for 3-4 years(?). Gak kaya orang-orang sini yang minimal pasti pernah disuruh baca Jane Austen atau Lord of The Flies atau George Orwell atau The Great Gatsby. Kemarin sempat lewat di timeline twitter keluhan prof di “elite” schools di US yang recent studentsnya having problem in finishing a book: https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2024/11/the-elite-college-students-who-cant-read-books/679945/
Anyway, iya udah sih mau cerita itu aja. Baru nyelesein Babel dan lagi mau mulai baca Half a yellow sun.
Oh iya! Kemarin Jumat nyempetin main tennis di Wolfson (sekarang lengan mayan sakit-sakit), terus KU LAGI NGONCI AKUN TWITTER! Karena kena bully parah banget sampe di-bodyshame profpic twt-ku di-DOWNLOAD sama mereka (karena posisi asli profpicnya tuh ku-rotate 90 degree gitu), terus di-rotate sampe jadi lurus dan dipost dibilangin “emang biasanya yang jelek gini sih yang suka ngomongin felix”… Ku sampai gak bisa berkata-kata… Tapi yaudahlah emang bocil dan orang kurang kerjaan aja mau gimana lagi.
Habis telponan sama Abi juga, senang banget. Oiya! Adikku sudah lahiran! Nama anaknya Alyx (itu nama tengah sih), tapi karena seperti nama pokemon jadi kupanggil Alyxos. Lucu banget ya bayi tuh. Betul-betul wonderful banget an emergence of life.
Unrelated tapi ku juga habis ngabisin 5 seasons of What we do in the shadows.
Byea, have a good weekend all!!!

And Ye Shall Marvel
Show me an effective digital campaign, and I will show you one that has high levels of user engagement. It’s one thing to pull all the levers and be everywhere, but it is quite another when you invite people into the campaign to reach for a little more.
And that is exactly what Coca-Cola is doing with their new Marvel joint promotion. It brings two powerhouse brands together to coincide with the late-July release of yet another Marvel movie. The promo includes special cans and bottles bearing Marvel super hero images, along with scannable QR codes. Once scanned, users are whisked away to AR content to supplement and support the messaging provided on the packaging.
There’s somewhat conflicting information online about exactly how many characters will appear, and where they will appear. It looks like Coca-Cola Classic and Coke Zero will share center stage, although I did read one story implying there could be more. Also, the number of characters ranges from “more than 30” to as high as 38.
That’s a lot of opportunities for engagement!
It’s also a page from an old playbook in the beverage industry, minus the QR and AR aspects. Starting back in the 80s, beverage makers started releasing sets of cans to coincide with a cross-promotion of another brand, or to promote something for which the beverage company had an exclusive affiliation, like the Olympics. As a long-time collector of beverage industry memorabilia, I can attest to how intense things can get trying to find every one of the items in a set. Because an incomplete set is just that: Incomplete. No bueno.
The current promotion will be in more than 50 countries, and already eBay is filled with cans from across the globe. Collectors alone will probably ensure the success of the campaign, but once you factor in the casual consumer just scanning the can they happened to get at the local c-store, this has the potential to be massive in impact. Maybe.
The movie doesn’t come out for another 3 1/2 months, and already supermarket shelves are filled with the initial shipments of Classic and Zero. The cardboard 12-pack packaging reinforces the campaign, and stands out nicely on shelves. Visual appeal is high.
The campaign comes at an important time for Coca-Cola, as well as all soft drink manufacturers, because consumption is down. Per capita consumption peaked around 2000, with about 50 gallons apiece. It has dropped steadily ever since, and now sits at just under 43 gallons per person. Stir in the Ozempic craze, and it is possible that food and beverage makers selling less-than-healthy products may continue to see sales declines.
But that decline started long before silver bullet products like Ozempic were ever available, meaning that changes in consumer behavior have been ongoing. I honestly could not tell you the last time I actually sipped a soft drink, although I still buy—and drain—cans I need for my collection. Can the current promotion reverse this downward spiral? That’s a tough call, because the trend line is clear. Coca-Cola needs it. Oh, and Disney, who owns Marvel, could also use a big boost at the box office. Misery loves company perhaps?
There’s another interesting aspect at play here as well. Quick! Show me a product that used a QR code before COVID. I’ll wait. I might be waiting a while, though, because I bet you can’t think of one. But show me a product available today whose packaging doesn’t contain a QR code, and I bet you would be equally hard-pressed. They became ubiquitous during the pandemic, and marketers and consumers alike finally realized their value.
I use the word “finally” because QR codes have actually been in existence since 1994, although they did not get a bump until about 2010. It’s just that there were still too few people with smartphones then to be able to scan them, and they landed with a thud. Worse yet, you had to download a QR-reader app. At least phone manufacturers finally figured out they could build that into their native camera app, and they could be used in myriad applications.
I saw them in China in 2019 as a payment gateway in restaurants. How many of you have paid your tab with a QR code here in the States? It is starting to gain traction, and I love it, if only because I do not have to surrender my card to a total stranger, who disappears with it for five to ten minutes.
As for marketing engagement, they are the best we’ve got these days. Not too many years ago the best we could do was invite people to visit a website. That took too many steps, though. A scannable code makes it easy, and I suspect that both parties to this promo are going to be exclaiming “Marvelous” before it is all over. One can hope.

CDK: Company Expo Set (Mesh + Recolor Pack)
Published: 9-14-2024 | Updated: N/A SUMMARY Cubic Dynamics by John B. Cube and Marcel Dusims forged the future with furnishings that were minimalist in design and maximalist in erudite pretension. Generations later, the company continues to produce edge-of-cutting-edge designs. Use the Cubic Dynamics Kitbash (Simmons, 2023-2024) collection to set up corporate, exposition, and office environments. Envisioned as an add-on to the Cubic Dynamics set (EA/Maxis, archived at GOS), it features minimalist and retro-futuristic objects. Find more CC on this site under the #co2cdkseries tag. Read the Backstory and ‘Dev Notes’ HERE. The COMPANY EXPOSITION SET includes 20+ items to create a conference/event space for your businesses and corporations. This set doubles as the main MESH PACK for all items in the CDK series.
DETAILS All EPs/SPs. §See Catalog for Pricing | See Buy/Build Mode All files with “MESH” in their name REQUIRED for textures/models to display correctly in-game. Recolors are linked to the Booth Partition (vertical woods, metal), Booth Table (horizontal woods, colors), Booth Wall in marble (256x256 Mm marble), Floor Sign 1 (256x512 vertical images), Painting 001 (256x512 images), Painting 004 (1024x512 images), Pinboard (256x512 pinfabric), Pinboard Poster (512x512 horizontal images), Planter 001 (256x512 paneling/pouf). Objects in Sims 2 are limited to two recolorable parts, so not all items are recolorable in the same way. Several objects in this series are oversized/offset. You may need to shift an object upwards once to level it, and you may need “move objects” and “grid on/off” cheats to place them to your liking. When placing partitions/floating shelves and tables/desks/counters on the same tile, place the partition/shelves first. I recommend using this set with Object Freedom 1.02 (Fway, 2023), which includes Numenor’s fix for OFB shelves (2006), for easier use overall. ITEMS Banner Signs (Regular/Table) (380 poly) Booth Partition (405 poly) Booth Sign Small/Large (124-128 poly) Booth Table (572 poly) Booth Wall (44 poly) Down Low Exhibition Table (116 poly) Floor Signs 001-005 (364-794 poly) Expo Leather Gallery Chair (1079 poly) Pinboard (112 poly) Pinboard Poster (12 poly) Planters 001-002 (178 poly) Stall Small/Large (429-434 poly) Wall Sign (92 poly) DOWNLOAD (choose one) MESH PACK from SFS | from MEGA RECOLOR PACK from SFS | from MEGA COLLECTION FILE from SFS | from MEGA *collection file last updated: 9-30-2024

So I read the statement and that is not what it said.
[ID: JSTOR is a not-for-profit digital library. Our mission is to expand access to scholarly knowledge worldwide and to preserve it for future generations. Between late September 2010 and early January 2011, someone downloaded 4.8 million articles from JSTOR—about 80% of our entire database—using the MIT network. People around the world now know that the person responsible was Aaron Swartz, that the United States government opted to prosecute Mr. Swartz, and that the criminal case came to an end with Mr. Swartz’s tragic suicide in January 2013. At the time of the downloading, we had no idea who was responsible.
What Mr. Swartz did was extremely serious from our perspective. Following his arrest, we made contact with Mr. Swartz and learned that he had retained and was prepared to return the copies of all the articles that he had downloaded, and we entered into a civil settlement with him. We told the United States Attorney’s Office that we had no further interest in the matter and did not want to press charges. Subsequently a criminal case was brought against Mr. Swartz by the United States Attorney’s Office, and he was indicted on felony charges in July 2011.
There is great public interest in this case and a desire for more information that might lead to a fuller understanding of what happened and why. We support that interest and favor open review and discussion of these events. We have cooperated fully with investigations conducted into this matter by a review panel of MIT faculty and by a committee of the United States House of Representatives.
During the criminal case, the federal government subpoenaed certain records from JSTOR. We are posting here records that we produced for the government. These materials include approximately 300 emails as well as charts, graphs, and other attachments, primarily reflecting JSTOR’s contemporaneous response to the downloading as it occurred. To provide context, we have also provided a summary of events that occurred, referencing and linking to documents throughout, to shed light on what happened as we experienced it.]
JSTOR explicitly is not at fault here. It was done in their name by the US Attorney's Office, not them. This is the summary of events; if you read through it, you'd see why it was imperative for JSTOR to find out who did it and why. But they explicitly did not want to press charges. Babygirlifying platforms is one thing (and yeah, it's weird as hell) but don't accuse them of something they were against.
ok so tumblr also really needs this reminder based on some posts ive seen around lately, the "babygirlification" of JSTOR is bad. like Bad Bad. did you all just collectively forget history? did you alll just forget they have blood on their hands? just because they publish science stuff in an ever so slightly more ethical way than springer and are a little silly on social media sometimes? JSTOR killed aaron swartz (wikipedia). in his fight for freedom of information he downloaded papers off of jstor (with acedemic access from MIT) to share and make freely accessible (as all information should be), for this he was charged with wire fraud, computer fraud, unlawfully obtaining information from a protected computer, and recklessly damaging a protected computer. he was facing up to 50 years in prison and a 1 million USD fee for a simple act of downloading files he lawfully had access to. with this court case the US government drove one of the most important online activists and programmers (he is behind so much stuff you all take for granted) into suicide in the name of JSTOR.
JSTOR isn't the cool girl on the block. this isnt a call to boycott them (though please learn how to use things such as sci-hub and fight for open science and freedom of information in general please <3), but please dont glorify them as some sort of cutesy platform.

For a prolonged period, developers have been yearning for consideration in the creation of software, including the Microsoft office. If you have been using Microsoft Office versions such as 2003, 2007, and 2010, you can attest to the fact that developers have had limited opportunities. But with time and enhanced improvements, developers and admins can now thankfully enjoy favorable features. In this article, we shall focus on versions of Microsoft office that bear suitable features for developers. Understanding such information as a developer increases your maneuverability while you explore and deploy these features.Microsoft Office 2013When Microsoft office 2013 landed in the market, it provided more functionalities to developers. While previous versions included Visual Basic for Applications, an essential developer’s tool, this version has incorporated the use of website functionalities such as HTML, JavaScript, and CSS. As a developer or an administrator, you can explore these functions through the Office Cloud App Model.According to Microsoft’s director, Richard Riley, the company had been working for over 15 years on improvements so that they can revolutionize the mode of Microsoft office interaction with developers. Finally, you can now create web-based apps on this platform as far as you have sufficient knowledge of general app development.Similar to functions accessible through VBA, you can write several web apps. For instance, excel allows you to create a sport-based app that can download Olympics data, envision this data, and then analyze it by organizing it in a particular order. Outlook, on the other hand, allows you to create an app that incorporates various features into your mail, including adding audio comments plus maps for address location whenever you are sending a text document.Once you create such apps, you have the permission to store them externally, giving you more administration controls. URL’s to the specific location of these apps will, however, be stored in the software. But saving it on external sources means that you don't have to replace a plug-in on different computers. Systems within an organization can download specific apps you have created from your servers through an app store enabled by SharePoint.Talking of SharePoint, available apps you have created will be available to your counterparts in the form of a package. This pack will include an HTML interface, JavaScript functionality code, and a description file in XML format.Another essential developer-related feature in this version is the Office Developer Center. This tool acts as a source of information where you can find various resources such as tutorials, models, analyses, and helpful documents. Typically, Microsoft office 2013 version marked a significant transition to a platform that supports all your development and administration necessities. It provided advanced features, which allows you to create and explore web apps.Microsoft Office 2016Microsoft has significantly progressed in developing extra features in Microsoft office 2016 version. With features in the preceding version still available in this version, the introduction of others has made the user experience better. Creation of smarter apps, more profound conversations, and improved integration defines the 2016 version. Here are some functions enabled in Microsoft office 2016.• Smarter Apps CreationMicrosoft graph is a new feature enabled in this version that allows you to create smart apps. The previous version limited data integration, but here, you can easily integrate both data and intellect into your apps. For instance, you can use the Microsoft Graph to create an app that can access file attachments in your email and return accessed documents to relevant recipients automatically. Such an app can also present proposals for an official meeting within the organization based on real-time calendar convenience.Data integration in Microsoft Graph includes document picker in Microsoft OneDrive through a simple drop-in application.
Microsoft is currently working towards improving features presented by Microsoft Graph; for instance, they intend to activate notifications involving calendar schedules and mail.• Extensible Conversation FeaturesIntegration of conversation-based applications in Microsoft Office 2016 has improved user experience. You can access apps such as Skype for Business App SDK and Web SDK that enhance two-end communications.Availability of these features has enabled developers to explore abilities to create apps that function by cloud audio, messages, and meetings, all in the skype developer’s platform. Besides, you can access services such as medical consultations at the comfort of your home through Skype for Business.• Improved Add-in ModelsMicrosoft office 2013 included add-ins where various apps from major companies could be incorporated into the software. This feature presented enhanced accessibility to services by concerned organizations, but office 2016 has provided more flexibility with the add-ins.Formerly, add-ins were available for windows operating system and had limited integration with only a few companies dominating the platform. This version has extended its compatibility with Mac computers while integrating more apps. Companies such as Baydin have created an Outlook add-in that allows you to access email productivity tools including mail reminder notifications and sharing of a calendar via a one-click option.Microsoft has improved the add-in platform interface to provide you the capability to modify apps you create, thereby upholding modernisms.• Microsoft Office InkingThis feature depicts the future of Microsoft office’s features and improvements. During the office 2016 launch, Microsoft exhibited inking features that involved using both touch and pen to perform various functions in office apps. For instance, you can draw lines in PowerPoint with a pen, where you can position a ruler feature using two fingers. You can also use the pen feature in Word to edit a document by merely crossing out words.Primarily, Microsoft office 2016 has indeed focused on promoting development capabilities by improving formerly existing features as well as introducing new features. Moreover, Microsoft developer’s team is still working on improving these features intending to offer you advanced functions.Microsoft Office 365Microsoft has made further and amazing improvements to Microsoft Office 365. During a SharePoint conference, the senior director of Office 365 technical product management said that they have weightily devoted their efforts and resources in making office 365 a superior platform. From creating shrewder solutions to applying these solutions in several outlets, including schools and organizations, this version has covered most of your development needs.• New Office APIsOffice 365 provides an improved set of API integration which connects and displays services to several other users. It means that you can now develop apps against SharePoint and Lync connection. As a result, you display services related to Mail, calendar, and People, which are standard communication APIs in Microsoft office.Besides, you can establish the location of other exposed users who are offering particular services through such communication APIs.• Improved Productivity AppsSince apps in every software help build a close relationship with its users, Microsoft product management took their time to develop improved productivity apps platform. You can now access advanced tools provided via SharePoint, Lync, and Exchange. For instance, presentations in PowerPoint are now enhanced by improved content apps that allow various abilities, including adding quizzes into notes and surveys. Besides, you can share these presentations and apps with other users.Office 365 apps also allow you to customize their appearance into your preference. An app providing templates for your preferred organizations improves appeal and experience. Since these templates are ready for use, it saves you time as well as increasing alternative options.
• Numerous Development ToolsYou have access to several development tools in office 365, where you can create apps using open standards, including REST, HTML, OAuth, and web services. You also have a choice between various languages and development platforms, such as Azure and Visual Studio using Java, .NET, C, Python, and PHP languages.Microsoft Graph is also available in office 365 with improved features that allow you to create advanced apps. For instance, DocuSign is a feature in Microsoft Graph that will enable you to sign documents before sending them digitally. This feature also allows you to select files automatically from OneDrive.Office 365 Group Connectors is a communication platform that helps you connect with other Office users. It is crucial in regards to business practices since you can promote goods and services as well as find some to buy.Final ThoughtsIf you are a developer, you have no excuse anymore as to why you are not considering Microsoft office for your needs. The company has provided a reliable platform for you, so now it’s your turn to convert those skills into reality. Besides, their development is still on the verge of including other functions in these platforms. Therefore, get ready, obtain a preferred Microsoft Office version, and start creating your apps. You can find out more about imminent features on the Microsoft website to see if they match and favor your innovations.
