what books would you consider essential reading, for any reason? Bulking up my tbr list
Oh here comes the cardinal sin: I'm not a reader. The last book I read for "fun" was a FNAF novel and entirely because unfortunately that franchise owns my soul, not because it's good or enjoyable.
My favorite books are the Six of Crows Douology.
Some books I think are important to read and that I think had an effect on how I personally write are:
Invisible Man by Ralph Elison
Frankenstein by Mary Shelly
Beloved by Toni Morrison
Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
The Book Thief and I Am The Messenger by Markus Zusak
Lolita by Vladimir Nabokov
Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett
(I'm not saying I necessarily enjoyed all of these books or recommend them for every reader, but they were influential for me as a writer)

Documentaire d'Augustin Viatte (France, 2020, 1h31mn)

We've had some updates...
X= (A,B,C)
X1= (A,∅,B,∅,C,∅)
Change in entropy, A, becomes 'impossible'
X2 =(∅,∅,B,∅,C,∅)
If this is true, then we need a way that ∅ entropy points collapse! Else All dead universes have 'N' ∅ entropy points, which means we have an amount of ∅ points which, counted without discrimination, mean that after KP, with ∅ points, end not with one possibility, '∅', but 'N'∅ possibilities, which would make the death of a universe entropically indistinguishable from KP. The only way to distinguish KP from K∅ is their cardinality. If this is true
Which means entropically, without a ∅ collapse rule, KP = K∅.
So, we had the idea that every material point is either placed, positioned or in orbit, and all that. This means there can be rules to the order of points, rather than just their cardinality; Transfinite rules; we also have Trans-ordinal rules.
Since, we have a log of A, we can tell that the FIRST 'N', A, became ∅ in the next iteration.
X1 =(A,∅,B,∅,C,∅)
X2 = (∅,∅,B,∅,C,∅)
The order did not change, but the cardinality did.
Again, entropically, X1=X2,
So we establish a rule, that any ∅ which then follows another ∅ collapse.
X3= (∅,B,∅,C,∅)
Why? Well...Hrrrm...if not, then every universe is entropically the same. They are infinitely impossible on their death S = (∅,∅,∅...). I'd say it's more neat that nothing collapses when next to nothing...The materiality is the difference...but...either entropy is a force...or no measure of entropy can differ from KP once a universe starts to die...making KP insertion uncertain, we could Inject ourselves in any point in time...including the one where every possibility is dead...we want to avoid that...
Anyways, this would also mean that we can distinguish an aborted universe [∅] from a dead one [∅,∅,∅...], also from an immaterial one [], a birthed one [A], and a K one [A,B,C...N], KP no longer exists since it is equivalent to K∅.
We can use Trans-ordinal rules to demonstrate an asymmetry of entropy.
Y= (∅,A,∅ B,∅,C,∅)
Z= (A,∅,B,∅,C,∅,D)
Tree thing:
(A,∅,B,∅,C,∅,D)
(A,∅,B,∅,C)
(B,∅,C)
(∅,C)
(C).
Vs
(∅)
(∅,A)
(∅,A,∅)
(∅,A,∅,B,∅)
(∅,A,∅,B,∅,C,∅)...
But, this also means there can be symmetry from the order of the set.
(∅,A)
(∅,B)
OR
(B,∅)
(A,∅)
...
Problems aside...the recognition of ∅ points can give a kind of mosaic effect, where KP is now [∅,A,∅,B,∅,C,∅...] Rather than [A,B,C,D...] Doubling our countable/uncountable base...and adding another layer of security. Then, the death of a universe is seen in the collapsing of possibilities into ∅, and with the Trans-ordinal rule, Make them collapse into a singleton, and showing the decay of entropy, until it Reaches [∅] However...this means entropically, a dead universe is also an aborted universe...(???)
Buuut.
What about meta-entropy?
We have multiple ∅ universes next to each other...no?
S= [A(∅),B(∅)...N(∅)]
Although the entropic measure of ∅ is 1 for a K-bit, we have the rule of collapse...would these dead universes on a K-curve collapse as well? If so, then all K-curves share the same end...differing only in the permutations that lead to it. In other words, the best place to build a sanctuary is where both meta, and classical entropy dies, that way, if anyone does an 'oopsie' the worst that can happen is that the bartender at the end of all universes ribs you. Thanks Douglas Adams.
Meh, why not third thing?
G=[A,∅,()]
So we have points which are neither possible nor impossible...but is still a possibility...entropically we would think this;
G ≈ [1(1),1(0),0]
The maximal value of {1(1)} is the KP of N^KP...and the maximal value of {1(0)} is N^{1(0)}...the ∅ singleton of both meta-entropy, and Closed-entropy. While 0...is...well...NULL, an open K-gate...by definition, any value in there is NOT entropic, else it would be either 1(0), or 1(1)...This is how we fetch our identifiers through Non-Linear K-Gates.
Materiality is countability?...No, it's more that anything material clearly has a countable limit of KP...
*FLIPS TABLE*" THE RESTAURANT PRINCIPLE!"
"The...restaurant principle?"
" Basically, the material arrangements and permutations of every universe from N→KP, to KP→∅ are all a transistor for computing. From the fact that in possibility A the fork in that restaurant is blue, and that in possibility B, it is green, then it represents a computational gate that is Unique to the N-th degree. Like a mixed quantum packet logged by entropy...maybe?
Anyways...
WEEEEEEE

I was talking with my mom the other day about the struggles of writing the homunculi in a modern au because the seven cardinal sins aren’t exactly socially acceptable things to name a child (although I have read some stories where that isn’t an obstacle or is pointed out as a strange thing to name a child but is otherwise disregarded past that). So we were trying to think of names for modern au versions of the homunculi.
Some already have one, so those are easier depending on the iteration. Pride being King Bradley in 03 and Selim Bradley in Mangahood. Lust using the alias “Solaris” in Mangahood. Sloth using the name Juliet Douglas in 03. Wrath being King Bradley in Mangahood. It’s not all encompassing, but they are names that can be used for the characters. Envy is likely to use the names of the person he’s impersonating, while Greed and Gluttony don’t have a different alias (unless you count Greed and Ling sharing a body as Greed partially having Ling’s identity, I guess?). So we thought up some things.
Mom supplied the name “Avery” for Greed as a shortened form of “avarice”, and it fits so well???
In that same vein, I think Raven could be a suitable name for Gluttony as being short for Ravenous. But Tony could also work with that same logic.
I know Lust does have an alias with Solaris already, but I can’t get it out of my head that Desiree is also a very fitting name for her!
Elias for Envy as an altered version of the word “alias”, alluding to his ability to have any alias of who he’s impersonating but also starting it with E for Envy.
With Mangahood sloth, I figured just using Douglas could work. 03 sloth is Juliet for short while Mangahood sloth is Douglas for short, still keeping with the main alias used by sloth in 03.
03 wrath, though? Head empty, I wasn’t able to think of anything. Maybe you would have better luck knowing more about 03? Or maybe you have other names that you think fit the other homunculi?
(Also, technically off topic, I like to headcanon Lust and Greed as twins. Lust being the second oldest and with the Ultimate Spear and Greed being the third oldest and with the Ultimate Shield, I figure their abilities and ages being so close could allude to them being created around the same time with Lust being shortly before Greed)
YOOOOOO YOU ARE COOKING WITH SOME OF THESE NAMES. I love Desiree for Lust!!! I think Tony fits Gluttony a lot more than Raven, since Raven kinda has a... cool edge to it? And Gluttony is kinda the opposite of cool, lmao. Elias works great for Envy, and I like splitting the Sloths' names so it's one each! I dunno how I feel about Avery for Greed, though... It's a little basic for him, methinks. Greed, above all the others, would want a "cool" name or at least sth that stands out over the rest. What do we think of Rich, like a derivative of Richard? :D
03 Wrath... see, it's funny cuz I was struggling to give him a title in my hades au the other day too. If we're keeping his mommy issues with Izumi, then he'd def pick sth "ugly" to identify himself as far away from her. Or he'd try too hard and pick a unique name that sounds way too edgy. Nothing specific comes to mind though.
#You have such good thoughts!! If I ever need human names for the sins I'll def be stealing if you don't mind 👀#katmail#fma

Breaking my cardinal “no politics” rule because I got some shit to say. I’m sick and mf tired of hearing ppl freak out about pronouns and gender. Like I understand why mfs was in 2020, I already knew about pronouns and gender spectrums bc I was online enough. But I understood mfs wasn’t so I accepted it. People carry a lot of gender related trauma due to how gender roles have to break and mold ppl to keep pre-existing oppressive systems in place. So yeah, I understood why Douglas in Mississippi felt a type of way because his whole life has been dictated by his assigned gender.
But it’s almost 2024 and mfs is still freaking out about this. Yes, multiple genders exist. Yes, you can choose your pronouns. No, you don’t have to but your feelings don’t control what a random stranger does. I literally do not find it in my heart to care about pronouns or gender expression.
If you wanna identity as a woman on tuesdays and thursdays and NB on every weekday besides that but be a man on the weekends, you go ahead. It ain’t my business and tbh I think it’s great that we have that freedom. Because end of the day, your gender identity shouldn’t mean anything. And it doesn’t, because it’s yours not mine.
Why are people so hung up about gender? Like shawty i get it. I know what it feels like to be told “you can’t have that bike because it’s for boys” or “you can’t do that because it’s for the opposite gender” I understand that pain and misery. But continuing the cycle (hell, making the cycle more extreme because you have unresolved trauma) IS NOT helping anybody. Yes, you’re emotionally wounded and bound to a system that you didn’t ask to be in. You didn’t ask for the gender expectations of men and women to be put on you. You didn’t ask for the authority figures in your formative years to shame you and demean you all because you liked something that wasn’t stereotypically for your assigned gender. But what good is there in continuing this cycle? If you don’t want to be held by gender roles, you can stop. You’re grown. You don’t have to live your life by something that’s hurt you. You can walk away and stop caring anytime you want.

On August 16th 1540 Sir James Hamilton of Finnart was executed.
If ever there was a fall from grace this is it, Hamilton was an architect and noble, known as the ‘Bastard of Arran, back in the day Bastard was not classed as a swear word, it merely meant being illegitimate, in this case he the son of James Hamilton, 1st Earl of Arran. Knighted aged around 17 and seems to have been well thought of, at least by his peers.
If you have visited some of the castles and palaces of Scotland you will have seen Hamilton’s’ work, he is credited with much f the Palace at Falkland you see today, and the Palace at Stirling Castle. He also built Craignethan Castle in South Lanarkshire for himself after being gifted the Craignethan Castle by King James V.
Hamilton was also involved in intrigue and persecution; he murdered John Stuart, the Earl of Lennox, and participated in the oppression of the Protestants, including his own cousin Patrick Hamilton, who was burnt at the stake in 1528. Known for his temper, Hamilton also provoked the infamous 'Clear the Causeway’ skirmish in Edinburgh.
Also called Cleanse the Causeway, the Skirmish was the result of enmity between the House of Hamilton and the “Red” Angus line of the House of Clan Douglas, both powerful noble families jealous of each other’s influence over King James V. The fight went badly for the Hamiltons, and Sir Patrick Hamilton and about 70 others were killed in the incident. The Earl of Arran and Sir James fought their way out, and escaped along a narrow close. Stealing a nearby pack-horse that had come into the city with coals, they fled through the shallows of the Nor Loch marshes.
Having survived this he seems to have still been in a good position of influence in the Royal Court and held the post of Lord Steward of the Royal Household and Master of Works.
For unexplained reasons his fickle King became convinced that Hamilton was plotting against him and, despite there being no evidence to support this, arrested his old friend, some of the evidence the King offered on August 16th 1540 at the trial was from 12 years previous and reads;
“Sir James Hamilton of Finnart, having been convicted of the treasonable shooting of guns and firing of missiles outside the palace of Linlithgow and from the bell-tower of the same, at the king and the people in his company, both at the time the king came to the palace and when he withdrew from the same, and especially at his lodging place in the same town, the king being personally present at the time of the firing of the said missiles. And for art and part in the treasonable imagination, planning, and consultation, vulgarly called devising, of assassinations, at the time it is said he was with Archibald Douglas of Kilspindie and James Douglas of Parkhead at the chapel of St Leonard near Edinburgh, after the forfeiture of Archibald Douglas, formerly Earl of Angus, George Douglas of Pittendreich his brother, and the said Archibald Douglas, his father, and also during the siege of Tantallon Castle in consultation with the said Douglases, how he would enter by the window near the upper part of the bed, 'the bedhead’ (superiorem thori - literally above the pillows), in the King’s palace near Holyrood Abbey, and how there he would commit the slaughter of the King. And for common treason and conspiracy against the King, his realm and lieges. Therefore it was given that this James forfeited his life, lands, rents and possessions to the king as his escheat, to remain with him in perpetuity.”
That is how it read from the record books, they weren’t keen on paragraphs back then!
After losing his head in Edinburgh King James seized his lands, taking the silverwork from the chapel at Craignethan along with a chest of the families paperwork many of which were destroyed by crown officers. Cardinal Beaton gave money to his widow, as she was his relative.
That wasn’t the last the King heard from The Bastard of Arran though, Finnart is said to have appeared to the James V in a dream, and declared that he “would shortly lose both arms, then his head.” This prophecy came true, as the King lost both of his young sons in 1541, and died himself in 1542. The story was recorded by John Knox and George Buchanan.
Wiilliam of Hawthornden and George Buchanan both cited the execution as evidence of arbitrary cruelty and greed in the behaviour of James V, I've said it before that the Stewarts were a ruthless lot. The reasons for Finnart’s execution remain unclear and are still debated between some historians to this day.
Pics are of Linlithgow Palace and Craignethan Castle.

💛Smoshblr December Asks Day 23💙
What are your top 3 favourite books (/comics/manga/poems/etc...) and/or top 3 you would recommend to others?
Oh, here we go, we're in my house now! (Obligatory "I could never choose just three" disclaimer here)
Microserfs by Douglas Coupland - I love the way Coupland writes, and this is my favorite of his fiction novels. It follows a group of programmers who leave their safe jobs at Microsoft to risk at all for their own start-up. It's funny, sweet, and very nerdy. (Other gems by this author: Generation X; JPOD; The Gum Thief)
The Song of Achilles by Madeline Miller - I'm obsessed with the story of Achilles and Patrocles, and this retelling still far exceeded my expectations. It's beautiful, epic, and impossibly tender. It's the first and only book that's ever made me audibly sob.
Nimona by ND Stevenson - Stevenson started Nimona right here on tumblr, when they were an art student! The comic follows Nimona who wishes to become a villain's henchman, and Ballister Blackheart, the "villain" in question. This comic is full of heart, it's hilarious, and I'm forever in love with Stevenson's art style.
And now, I hope you're warmed up, because I'm about to rec you. (I'm sorry, that's very sexual; forget that part.)
I put recommendations under the cut, please check them out!
ALSO, if you like quizzes, I have a uquiz where I recommend you books based on your answers! You can find it here; and my ask is open if you wanna talk about your result :)
Thank you for asking!
I obviously recommend my three favorites listed in this ask, but I also recognize that they're not for everyone, so here are three others:
If you like comic books and feminist history, I recommend "Brazen: Rebel Ladies Who Rocked the World" by Pénélope Bagieu A collection of short comics about iconic women who have left their mark on the world throughout history. Gorgeous art style, factual history, and a lot of humor. (Translated into over a dozen languages, in case English is not your favorite; I read it in Danish myself)
If you like classics, but not the 'fancy ladies talking about marriage while needlepointing' kind of classic, I recommend "The Three Musketeers" by Alexandre Dumas You're probably at least somewhat familiar, but just in case: The young d'Artagnan goes to Paris to become a musketeer, joining forces with Athos, Porthos, and Aramis in their efforts to take down the corrupt Cardinal Richelieu. The writing style is surprisingly modern, making it more readable than many classics of the time; and it's dramatic, swashbuckler-y, and fun.
If you think horror and comedy go hand in hand, I recommend "John Dies at the End" by Jason Pargin/David Wong John and Dave are slackers all but sleepwalking through life in their small town; until they do a mysterious drug at a house party and gain the ability to see the supernatural. Turns out their sleepy town is chockful of horrific creatures, and now that John and Dave can see them, they're putting up a fight. It's a genuinely funny read, but it also scares the shit out of me. And it's a series! There are 4 books in total, so far; in my opinion, each one is scarier than the one before.
