What got you into writing fan fiction?

What got you into writing fan fiction?

Welllll, I started writing fanfiction when I was very young! I read a book series and was Extremely Dissatisfied with how it ended, and at the age of about 11 and in need of a happy ending, decided to rewrite the entire last volume. I had no idea what I was doing was fanfiction at the time, and I never shared it with anyone - 'twas just for the love of the story!

Haha! Depends on the tea! Breakfast tea is strong, with a splash of milk and 2 sugars, Earl Grey is black with a slice of lemon, and coffee I drink strong with lots of milk! There are others, but these are my three main favourites!

Is there anything small (or could be considered small) that you accomplished or had happen recently that just made your day?(folded laundry, made a good drink, took a nap in the sun)

My tomato plants finally have flowers!! I'm so excited, because I grew these all from seed and I genuinely didn't know what to expect! I really can't wait to have home grown tomatoes!

If you could go back to experience a wonderful time in your life, what would it be?

Would you rather be able to forget a movie to watch over again or a book?

What would you consider is a skill that doesn't get enough hype? (Like doing your own taxes, growing a garden, being knowledgeable about the local flora and fauna)

I'm taking the skill question, because it's a RANT.

The ability to make one's own clothing is a skill that is SEVERELY underrated in the modern world. The fast fashion industry controls so much of what's available to us, and has for so long, that we just sort of accept these days that we've got to accept inconvenient, uncomfortable, unsustainable clothing that's going to fall apart in just a few months' time because that's all that's available.

What do you like to wear? Doesn't matter, you only get what's on the market this month. Can't wear certain fabrics? Hope you have buckets of money and a mess of free time to go looking for clothes. Favorite colors? Nope. You're at the mercy of WalMart and Zara. If you're a woman, it's even worse, because gods help you if you want to wear anything that actually lets you go live a life and do stuff. And if you're a dude? Get ready to be bored. It's just variations on the same drab theme from now until the day you die.

As an added bonus, most of what you find in stores is only kinda-sorta designed to fit a certain body type, and if it doesn't fit you perfectly then you're implied to be too [whatever you are] to wear "nice" stuff. This is your fault, don't you know?

If you learn to sew, and it's not nearly as hard as people think, you can make things specific to your clothing needs for cheaper than you would ever be able to buy them. And your clothing will last WAY longer than anything you'll find in a shop. Also, if you want to wear something that just isn't made these days... look, no one's gonna arrest you for wearing a floor-length cloak or a pirate shirt out to the grocery store, okay? Trust me, I know. I wear 18th Century stays and petticoats to work on the regular.

Happy STS! What's a trope you cannot get enough of in your writing? Multiple answers are welcomed, lol!

Oh hallo! I would say one of those that is up there is, and this only really applies with an ensemble cast, two of the main characters sharing like a singular braincell between them. Specifically think of Denji and Power from Chainsaw Man.

Another I would also say is the idea of the monstrous thing actually being like a super chill guy (gender neutral). Not meaning that one hunting the beast is the bad guy, but like, tales of this forgotten horror reaching far and wide and in reality the thing is just an awkward goober or really nice host to have.

And ya know what, I'm a basic bitch, I love a good campy evil villain. Not a fool mind you, but like, someone who just is in love with what they do.

Six Sentence 'Monday'!

This was supposed to be a Six Sentence Sunday post, but since I missed the tag yesterday, here goes "Six Sentence Monday" instead! Thank you for tagging me, @pluttskutt!

This snippet is also what I like to call: Augustus snaps and shows their pursuers precisely why he was once called the Soulsnatcher (It's slightly more than 6 sentences, I think, but it wouldn't make sense without context!)

This mercenary had just hurt the only person Augustus truly cared about, and now still had the gall to try and mock them - this was the final straw over an already hellish week, and it was really, quite absurd.

He glanced at her injured arm for a moment, worry written in his features, before steeling himself and walking slowly towards the approaching mercenaries, despite them scrambling to reload their pistols.

When Augustus spoke again, his voice was much deeper, and garbled, and the sarcastic smile on his lips looked more than slightly off "Well, I'm going to enjoy this - it seems it's been a while since someone taught you the proper meaning of bloodshed!" The summoning mark shone around his wrist and the mercenaries fired, only for the bullets to stop mid-air. The necromancer glared at them, expression turning deathly serious. "You should've left us alone when she gave you the chance" [...]

WiYS - Streaming Style/Location

FYI, for the people that have been asking. The initial stream is planned to be on Twitch, then I'll post the video result on YouTube and Tik Tok.

I plan to do livesteams on Twitch where people can ask questions or do whatever comments or whatnot if they want while I'm streaming. I could do a little Q&A at the end of the streams if anyone has questions. :)

So yeah. That's the plan on the streaming aspect of it as of right now. So for those that plan to stream via Twitch, that'll be the one that's live.

I'll make an official post with actual DETAILS about the thing when I have time to type it up and I also plan to do a Q&A to answer all the questions people have asked on the interest form, but for now, I thought I'd give out that little tidbit of information.

PS I also wanted to add that this will be the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month, starting in December. First stream is planned to be December 5th. I have not picked a time yet, so stay tuned for the official announcement, which will have those kinds of details.

I will post links to each stream individually and tag people to the streaming service they chose on the interest form.

My husband (autistic space nerd, tells me ALL of the things 🥰🥰🥰) says that Ohio has produced more astronauts than any of the other states in the US.

Which means there's something about Ohio that makes people want to leave the fucking planet.

Is the world you have set the story (apart from the odd fabricated places) a direct parallels to our own world or is it maybe a little "different" (like maybe no two Dakotas, or like some of the Europeans countries have some different history)

Ooh, good one.

For the most part, this story takes place in the "real" world, so it's a direct parallel. The setting is also based on places where I have been in my own real life, so I add in as many details as possible to make Southern Illinois (and Warrensburg, Missouri in the beginning) as realistic as possible. I even reference some local history that actually happened in that area as well, such as the tri-state tornado, Charlie Birger, and the 2009 inland hurricane.

The fantasy elements happen largely in the liminal spaces, those little nooks and crannies in the world that happen everywhere but no one ever really thinks to notice. But this story was also partially inspired by a local joke that between Tornado Alley, the Bible Belt, and the New Madrid Fault Line, Southern IL really does exist in a sort of nexus of all things weird.

That said, this realism is very much based on my own memory, and I haven't been back in Southern Illinois for like five years now. And as homesick as I am, my memories of the place weren't all great, lol.

Six Sentence Sunday on a Tuesday!

These sentences are from my main and big WIP Rituals and Red Tape

He must have felt the same as he raised his head and went to speak. I slapped a hand over his mouth and held a finger to my lips.

The vibrations grew more frequent and violent. Light that once filtered in from beyond the crag is blotted out. We both sat statue still as two large black limbs slammed into the brickwork path beyond our sanctuary. The lower half of a featureless white mask creeping into view.

These are the last 6 sentences I have wrote that weren't editing and were at the end of the most recent chapter~

I'll throw in another snippet from Abnormal Analytics Company Communications (document style SCP inspired horror story)

The deafening sound of rock scraping against rock. A horrid metallic screech as wire racks and hangers bend and bow out. A loud underworld wail as the room shudders and shakes. Lights once providing some kind of source of safety burst in wet pops. The room plunged into utter darkness once more.

There are no screams, only the wet snapping of bones and erupting skulls.

Basic Info: 550 years old (give or take a decade or two) half-human on her father's side (her mother is a giant magic tree sprite). Had a rough number of...centuries (gaslit, abused, manipulated, mind-controlled, tortured, almost set on fire, experimented on, etc). She's slow to trust, passive-aggressive, shoot first ask later, but if you manage to get her trust she'll fight for you tooth and nail.
