i feel especially for vi as someone who tried to maintain relationships with people where they saw you as "one of the good ones" only for them to end up being completely indifferent to the struggles of people like you even going as far to say some people deserve the oppression they experience. vi's punch in the gut with a rifle hilt is exactly how it feels, pain and betrayal.

its a reason why i can longer really sympathize with caitlyn, with the status she holds in society becoming the head of a police state in the haze of her grief and anger is something that someone like her can do flippantly. its honestly fucking scary. knowing what she can do to vi's people, the undercity must be terrifying. i don't meant to diminish vi's role in becoming an enforcer, i think its an important lesson in understanding that even if they think you're "one of the good ones" that can always change. stand up for yourself one too many times, call them out on their ignorance or bigotry one too many times and sometimes once is enough and all that changes overnight. its a harrowing and traumatic experience of a relationship

i love the shinji linked episodes. i love that shinji actually opens up to yuki enough to tell him he thinks hes going to die soon. i was talking to austin about this about how sometimes we love people but when we've known them for a long time, especially since childhood, we can sometimes get trapped in being "too close" and not able to grow in a way that contradicts someone's perception of you, or how you might just talk in circles about topics without ever really hearing the other person.

and i think ultimately thats how shinji feels with his relationship to akihiko and mitsuru. he cant be honest with them the way he can be honest with yuki, because yuki doesn't see all that baggage that shinji has, he just sees someone who saved him from the station outskirts and is reaching out as a teammate and new friend. it gives shinji a different perspective from someone who is a third party to the situation, so shinji can be more calm and open to talking about it. if he tried to talk to mitsuru or akihiko about half the shit he brings up with yuki, they would just freak out. anyway yuki and shinji should date
