My Undead Yokai Girlfriend (2024)
A student in Kyoto struggles in life, as he falls behind in school and is unable to get a girlfriend like his peers. Out of desperation, he turns to a mysterious scroll he found which contains a love spell which he hope to grant his wish to get a girlfriend.
But he did not realize that it's actually a forbidden spell to break free a Yokai who was imprisoned in the past by Samurai. In the beginning, it was fun and games, as they get into a chaotic relationship until a Samurai from the past appears to hunt her.
It gets worse when the Yokai detects the presence of the descendants of the Samurai who killed her family and imprisoned her in the past that she began her quest of vengeance, not knowing that the leader of the Samurai himself has returned.

It's a surprisingly good series that I binged watch it over the weekend! It's one of those shows where you do not judge by its plot which I thought to be a cheesy romance comedy (although it is like that in the beginning) but it takes a serious turn along the way.
It's a good mix of comedy and seriousness, the comedy aspect is where the Yokai struggles to figure out everything modern as the student's friends and family got involved in their shenanigans. The serious aspect is when the killing starts and the police gets involved.
The vibes and action scenes reminds me of House of Ninjas, and the cinematography and sceneries are just beautiful to watch. Like House of Ninjas, there will definitely be a second season! If you like those "time travel" fantasy genre, this one is for you!

Do you want to kill someone? Basically, when someone is murdered the police always assumes that the killer is related to the victim.
That's why, a popular trope was discovered where Let's say A kills the person B wants to kill and B kills the person A wants to kill. As the victim and murderer are unrelated so it becomes hard to identify the real culprit.
Anata no Ban Desu or Its Your Turn takes this trope to the next level.
The story follows Nana and Shota. A newly married couple who just shifted to a new house.
As Nana is 15 years older than Shota, she feels a bit weird when people criticise them for their age difference. However, this doesn't stop her from loving Shota unconditionally .
When she attended the first association meeting, the residents played a game. They wrote the name of the people they want to kill and then shuffled the chits.
It was a harmless game until...... people whose name were written started to die one by one.
I started watching this drama because of Tanaka Kei (actor who plays Shota).
Surprisingly, his character was really irritating at first (at least for me 🤣)
The makers tried to show Nana as the mature one but in this process Shota became a man child. However.... as the show progresses , it becomes clear that Shota is in fact not a man child.
He is strong and opinionated. As far as Nana, she is kind of the MC of this show. We follow the story through her pov. I can't discuss much about her characters without spoilers. But, all I have to say is that she is a smart and strong MC.
Highlight of the show is Shota and Nana's relation. They go through all ups and downs together.
Now let's get to the main point. The game.
Each and every character is crazy and has been pushed to their limits.
The side characters of this show are really awesome too.
Fuiji was the one who stood out to me most. He serves mostly as a comedic relief but has some dark moments too. He can be pretty creepy.
Then there's Mikiha ... everything about her screams danger. Kinoshita is a suspicious neighbour.
Sanae is a too good to be true neighbour. Jun is just there. There's also a Yakuza couple. Mr. Ukita... Akaike family and Sano.
One thing I have to say about Sano is that he is handsome (his actor I mean). And the drama reminds us of this every second. Whenever anyone talks about Sano they always start like.."He has a handsome face but.."
I doubted each and every one of the characters including Nana and Shota. The first 2 eps were a bit low but then the show picked its pace.
The final moments of the final episode were mindblowing. Never had I ever thought that the story would go on this direction.
This final episode sets up a long desired sequel. If it was ongoing then I would have lost my mind waiting for the 2nd season. Luckily for us, the 2nd season is already out and is known as "Anata no Ban Desu Counterattack. "
Ratings : 9.5/10

I was reading an article in the Atlantic just now, and the author referred to a concept I’ve never heard of called the “Anna Karenina principle.”
“Anna Karenina” starts with the sentence: “Happy families are all alike; every unhappy family is unhappy in its own way.” The link above refers to how the principle applies to success in science fields (as in, what are the common factors that leading to scientific successes that need to be achieved).
But I wonder if this principle could be applied to our collective reviews/analyses of dramas/doramas/QLs. I’m stroking my chin and thinking on this.
#anna karenina principle#what are the common factors that make dramas/doramas great#are there slightly different factors for QLs?#i should review the absolute BL lists because i think i've seen them list out these kinds of factors before#like happy endings#and maybe even age gaps

Homestay /

Book Review: Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop
Title: Welcome to the Hyunam-Dong Bookshop Author: Hwang Bo-Reum Rating: 5/5 ⭐
I have never watched any doramas before, but I'm 100% sure this book could easily be one. Well, needless to say, any book with library or bookshop on the title has my immediate attention. Yeongju needed to open her own bookshop so bad that she did it despite her lack of entrepreneurial experience. For the first few months, all she can do is cry, and she has no idea how to properly manage a bookshop. Reading has been her lifetime passion, but reading books and selling them are two completely different things, so she starts a long learning journey. The first thing is to hire a barista for the coffee machine, and the second is to start thinking about ways to spark the interest of the neighborhood in her bookshop. The rest, well you have to read it. This book is absolutely amazing, it's one of those with no specific plots or major events, but it fills your heart with warmth and joy every time you turn a page, it's like you're part of the little community that surrounds the bookshop. Warning: a huge urge to open your own independent bookshop might occur.

Shiko Funjatta / Sumo Do, Sumo Don't (2022)
Such a great lighthearted and uplifting drama that makes you feel good when you're down. Been searching for this type of traditional sports or martial arts dramas like the Hollywood's Cobra Kai series.
Shiko Funjatta is a sequel to the original Sumo Do, Sumo Don't in the 90s. The show focus on the new and younger characters while featuring the original characters returning as "mentors".
I love that every character have their own character development, despite their own baggage of life which was pulling them down at the beginning which often prompts them to run away again.
A drifter, a recluse, a gym buff, a dancer, a salaryman, a runner, joins the Sumo Club headed by a loner. Seeing the chemistry and dynamics of these unique characters alone is intriguing to watch.
Sumo is something that you don't see often in films in terms of what it takes to be one and the rigorous training involved. For one I had no idea that you need to be flexible like Yoga to be in this sport.

IT'S ALREADY 7 DAYS?! I DON'T FEEL IT!! It's like I'm talking with him just for 3 days lol!
I think it's too soon to make my review about this route yet. But about my personal taste is impressive!
I feel like watching a good and dramatic Korean Dorama actually, I think Cheritz should make more webtoon about their plots and games.

Fanfic do Dia #2: Melhores Amigos - Vampira Black
Sinopse:
XOXO, Interludia.

Otomen
(c) Kanno Aya, Fuji TV
Do you like COMEDY (and by that I mean..parodies?)
Have you immersed yourself with Japanese drama/manga/movies lately?
If yes, then….. this one's for you!!! If not, then now's a good time to start.
Watch Otomen.
This live action series was based on the manga of the same name.
The story is rather simple. A man oozing with masculinity who hides his hobbies like baking and knitting… meets falls in love with a girl who can probably wrestle a bear and win. =)
But before that. What is an Otomen? The term otomen refers to men who aren't homosexual, but simply have the tendency to like feminine things such as baking, knitting, make-up, shojo manga, etc.
Anyway, back to the storyline. What makes the storyline interesting, is the story WITHIN a story kind of thing as one of the characters is a manga writer. XD
Another is.. THAT UBER AWESOME opening sequence!!!!!!! :D :D :D :D
Another factor is, of course, THE PARODIES!! There are countless of them, and they're nicely done too!
Some of the parodies (those that I remember anyway) include:
the English teacher (funny at first, kinda gets tiring after a while) -- you'll see when you watch it. HAHAHA. HINT: a famous and powerful worldwide celebrity/icon.
The Grudge
Crows Zero (REALLY FUNNY and accurate!!!!)
Detective Conan
Hana Kimi
Now for some REAL reviews: Plot-wise, again.. interesting. entertaining. a few dull moments, but you forget that as soon as the next funny scene flashes.
acting-wise…. it was ok. ok, maybe lower than ok. haha.. This series falls from what I like to call "training ground series" where up-and-coming actors polish their craft.
Script-wise.. well I thought the spacing of the comedic moments were hilarious. Not to mention the scary episode featuring the grudge really scared me (ok, so maybe this review part should go to the visual effects..) BUT ANYWAY. the story is overly simple so there really isn't much to comment on about this.
So, watch it now and go meet the dense girl, the guy who can't voice his feelings, the rival, the advice-giver, the feminine-looking guy . . .
I could go on, but,. No. Just go meet them yourself. :)
I recommend this if you like any of the following series: Hana Kimi Yukan Club Yamato Nadeshiko Shichi Henge Atashinchi no Danshi Nodame Cantabile
PS. this drama is currently ranked #20 in my j-dorama list (making it… as of today.. 20/70) :D
PS. This blog was originally posted on LiveJournal.

I owe all of my current shows much more robust reviews, but I am just here now to yell about Ayaka Is In Love With Hiroko!, and I am just CELEBRATING that the Japanese channel, MBS, is gilding its Drama Shower time slot with such a fabulous and heartfelt GL romcom. Crisp, well-paced, leveraging the Japanese dorama penchant for crossed-communication wires with depth. I’ll yell more tomorrow about it, but I just had such a good time catching up with it.
