Rare good algorithmic playlist from the shit Google Music app (it's free with YouTube Premium, and that is LITERALLY the only reason anyone uses it).
Usually it just decays into replaying a loop of the same three songs. But I guess someone over there at Alphabet HQ is still turning valves in the abandoned Epcot pavilion that is this app. ...For now.
Andrew Bird - Capsized [atmospheric funky pop-rock, like blue-eyed Bill Withers, great electric guitar hook]
Dan Auerbach - Every Chance I Get (I Want You in the Flesh) [Grungy blues rock, but with the drone of a tamboura and a glassy jazz vibe. None of this should work, but it's awesome.]
The Brian Jonestown Massacre - Servo [What The Kinks would have put out in the mid-90s, if they hadn't been so old and frustrated and lost their way.]
Running - Norah Jones [Norah Jones. Yes.]
Coyote - DOPE LEMON [What if David Bowie had fronted a psychedelic jam band side project? Well, this.]
The Olympians - Mercury's Odyssey [Instrumental funk. Like the best JRPG menu music ever.]
brkfstblend - 2am [This is like 40 years of Japanese pop music, wrapped in trash from an abandoned mall. Goddamn transcendent, while simultaneously goofy and cheap. Beautiful stuff.]
Dreary Ghost - All Them Witches / Hares on a Mountain [Droning, ethereal English dream pop / folk. Music from a bad Wickerman knockoff, where the music at least is compelling.]
Then it just started playing The Black Keys. Who are great, but this is Google Music, so that means we're two songs away from Elton John.
Who is also great. But doesn't go with this playlist. And that is a thing this app just cannot figure out.

@hustledbones tagged me for 5 songs I've been listening to recently and I decided I won't go to my repeat playlist to spare y'all all the bruce that's there atm. instead I'll give you some of that recently added stuff that's been playing a lot. here you go :)
apparently deadletter will play a show in my town this year, I had never heard of them before, but saw them advertised by the venue and liked the vibe. also really like their song the snitching hour. alt-indie with saxophone, ofc I'm gonna be down for that
unfortunately hey team dissolved last year and I just learned about them because it used to be a new friend's band. also really like their song o.k. sis. alt-rock-ish indie vibe
old friend played it for me in the car during an intense music exchange session, first reaction from me: that's a bob dylan impersonator! apparently this dope lemon dude is already quite successful. good for him
more saxophone! did not expect that. new music nerd friend is a big thin lizzy fan, I checked that out and was surprised how good it is. and no, this is not a cover of that other dancing in the moonlight song (of which the best version is by king harvest from the 70ies btw, not toploader)
after all I'm still a country gal. dale is my newest addition of cowboys. am really enjoying this one about him not having the money his love deserves just yet and trying to make his darling stay and be patient till he can afford that bling
I would like to get a glimpse into the playlists of @finch-connor @cowboy-jules @lottie-starling and @brucefuckingspringsteen if y'all would be so kind :) no need to write fucking essays like I did, a simple list is mighty fine ❤️

Carbon Quantum Dots In Environmental Remediation
Authored by Zahra Ramezani
Abstract
Carbon quantum dots (CQD), is highly stable, biocompatible, and low toxic fluorescence nonomaterial that extensively used in different scientific disciplines such as design and construction of low-cost chemical and biological sensors, cell imaging, clinical diagnosing, and drug loading. Due to their optoelectronic properties, they have recently used in remediation studies as an alternative to or mixed with metal semiconductors. Having used CQD, an economic and green technique in environmental pollution remediation is introduced. Remediation happens through the ability of CQD composites in adsorption of pollutants or using its photo catalytic action. Herein, some recent applications in the environmental pollutant remediation are reviewed.
Introduction
CQDs are a new type of carbon nanomaterial accidentally found in 2004 through purification of single-wall carbon nano tubes [1]. They have attracted much scientific attention since they are stable photoluminescence particles with high chemical stability, low toxicity, and biocompatible as well as having optoelectronic properties. They are produced by different chemical or natural carbon rich precursors in one pot process by different heating methods [1-4]. The CQDs properties have tuned by surface modification through different synthetic protocols and using different chemical reagents [5] for a vast variety of applications since 2004. CQDs have strong and stable luminescence, and have been used in chemical sensors, optoelectronics [6-8] bacterial detection [9], cancer diagnosis [10], cell imaging [11] and drug loading [12].
Exposure of CQDs with photons of energy equal or higher than its band gap leads to the transfer of the electron from the valence band to the conduction band, producing an electron-hole. Both electron and hole on the surface of the CQDs gives it the ability to act as both electron donor and acceptor, and promote oxidation-reduction on the surface of the dots [13]. Doping CQD with dozens of elements like N, P, and S have induced a shift in the photoluminescence wavelength, and suggest its applications as an efficient catalyst. Photo catalytic degradation of organic pollutions and microorganism is extensively reported in the literature using semiconductors [13].The high photo activity of the catalyst has a vital role in the oxidation or reduction of the pollutants. Photo catalytic activity of CQDs improved by incorporating elements such as nitrogen on the surface, and preparation of a composite with other semiconductors such as TiO2. Pollutant remediation using CQDs is mainly due to the photo catalytic properties. But adsorption of the pollutants on the surface of CQDs composites is another strategy has rarely been used up to now. However, the application of CQDs in the pollutant remediation is briefly discussed and listed. Photocatalytic Degradation of Pollutants is an Title CQDs under photon irradiation generate electron-hole and acts as the visible light photo catalyst in environmental remediation and energy transfer reactions. A few reports on the application of CQDs for adsorption of environmental pollutants are available in the literature. Some recent application of CQDs, doped CQDs, and their composites with other nano particles, in environmental remediation, is reported in (Table 1) and discussed. Photo catalytic conversion of CO2 to organic acids by nitrogen doped CQD (NCQDs) with visible light irradiation was more efficient than colloidal TiO2 under UV radiations [5]. Martin et al [13] also synthesized nitrogen doped CQD by hydrothermal irradiation using glycerol as the carbon source and 4,7,10 trioxa-1,13- tridecanediamine for nitrogen doping. They prepared NCQD/ TiO2 nano composite and showed that photo catalytic activity of nano composite for methylene blue and NO remediation is higher than those for TiO2. Super paramagnetic nitrogen doped CQD /magnetite nano composites (Fe3O4@NCQD) [14,15] were used for removal of methyl blue from polluted water samples. They used lemon juice as a green carbon precursor and ethylene amine as the nitrogen source for CQD surface functionalization.
As-prepared Fe3O4@NCQD adsorbs 90.84% methyl blue from aqueous solutions in 20 min. Particles were separated from the solution by a magnet, methyl blue has been desorbed by hydrochloric acid, and the recovered particles were used five times without any considerable changes in the removal efficiency. CQD/nitrogen-doped ZnO (CQD/N-ZnO) composite was prepared and used for photo catalytic degradation of three commercial dyes, malachite green, methylene blue and fluoresce in under daylight irradiation. The composite removes all three dyes within 30-45 minutes [16]. CQDs-TiO2nanosheet (CQDs- TNS) composites were prepared and used in photo catalytic degradation of rhodamine B under visible light irradiation [17].
It was reported that photo catalytic activity of CQDs-TNS was higher than CQDs/TiO2 and pure TNS. Catalytic H2 production using highly crystalline CQDs on 2D C3N4nanosheets was reported [18]. Hydrogen peroxide produced during the reaction promotes bisphenol a removal. Excellent photo catalytic activity was observed for ternary mixture of CQDs/Ag/Ag2O [19]. The ternary photo catalyst removed methylene blue and Rhodamine B from aqueous solution. Composite of CQDs with g-C3N4nanosheet was also reported as an excellent photo catalyst for the degradation of rhodamine B and tetracycline hydrochloride (TC-HCl) under visible light irradiation [20]. Tetracycline mineralization by the composite of Ag+-CDs-Bi2WO6 [21] via photo catalytic reactions under visible light is also reported. The Ag+-CDs-Bi2WO6 has excellent stability even when recycled and reused for several times. Fe (III)-functionalized carbon dots (Fe(III)-CQDs) was used for remediation of hydrogen peroxide as well as olefin hydrogenation with high selectivity [22]. A green approach applied to the synthesis of La/Cu/Zr/CQDs tri metallic nano composites as both adsorptive and catalytic agent for pollutant remediation [23]. It has been observed that 96% ampicillin antibiotic and 86% of malachite green were degraded in 4 h. The prepared Bi2O3/ CQDs photo catalysts [24] showed the best photo catalytic activity in rhodamine B elimination. A new CQDs/ Bi2WO6 were applied in the remediation of methyl orange and bisphenol A in aqueous solution [25]. A novel ternary photo catalyst of single atom-dispersed silver and carbon quantum dots co-loaded with ultrathin g-C3N4 (Ag-CQDs- gC3N4) was synthesized [26]. Environment-Friendly CQDs/ ZnFe2O4 photo catalyst was synthesized and introduced as a biocompatible catalyst for NO removal in the atmosphere [27]. The catalyst has low cytotoxicity and is a good candidate for air purification. Application of CQDs was extended to the removal of microorganism from aqueous solution. Recently, multiwall carbon nano tube fiber incorporated CQDs (MWCNT-F/CQDs) composite has been proved as highly efficient material for bacterial removal from aqueous solution and inhibition of their activity [28]. In this study, the inhibitory rates for E. coli were 94.21% on the MWCNT filter surfaces coated with 0.2 mg CQDs.
Conclusion
To sum up, CQDs are introduced recently as the visible light photo catalyst for environmental remediation. The catalytic activity of CQDs increases by metals doping or making composites with the other semiconductor. Adsorption ability of CQDs for environmental pollutants are not well investigated. Another outstanding action of CQDs is in bacterial growth inhibition and removal from aqueous solution. Overall, CQDs is a green and biocompatible material for treatment and purification of water and atmosphere.

I haven’t done any baking the past few years, though. Do you have a large kitchen? No, it’s really small. Is anything sore on your body at the moment? Of course.
Do you like 3D movies? No. Where were you 3 hours ago? Sitting right here on my bed. Have you ever heard of Hot Chelle Rae? Yeah. I liked a couple of their songs. Do you know where Poland is? I know it’s in Europe. Are you afraid of dying? Yes. Are you wearing socks right now? Always. Do you speak your mind? I keep a lot to myself. If you found a wounded bird, what would you do? I honestly don’t know. I’ve never encountered a wounded bird. Ever rode on an elephant? No. Have you ever had braces? Yes, but not for my teeth.
“Cause I finally realize that I can’t get you off my mind”
Have you ever eaten a crayon? No. Do you like strawberries? Yeah. I haven’t had any in years, though. Wrestling or boxing? Neither. When's the last time you went to the mall? Last December. Have you ever gone Christmas Caroling? I have, actually. A few of us from the psych club I was in at my community college went caroling one year to a few different nursing homes. It was nice, they seemed to enjoy it. What song do you never get tired of? There’s numerous songs that will always be a favorite of mine. Do you have a favorite chef? No. Do you know who Travis Pastrana is? Yeah. What song pumps you up and makes you feel good? Hmm. What's bothering you right now? My back and the fact that I don’t feel well.
Favorite flavor of gum? Minty flavors. Does your school have air conditioning? How many mirrors do you have in your home? 5 that I know of for sure. That doesn’t include handheld mirrors, though. What does your wrapping paper look like for presents this year? I haven’t bought any, yet. Do you like Jay-Z? I’ve only liked a couple of his songs. However, the Linkin Park and Jay-Z collab album was/is dope.

I wish I had blue or green eyes instead. Do you wear a watch? Nope. Do you like peanut butter? Yes. Do you tan easily? If I spend a day at the beach I’ll sunburn and then it turns into a tan. That’s the only time I spend a long period of time outdoors. Do you have sensitive skin? Yes. Do you care if people smoke/drink? Not in general, no. If it becomes a problem then yes. Has anyone ever gives you roses? Nope.
“every little thing that you do, I’m amazed by you”
How many hours of sleep did you get last night? Sigh. I dozed off around 5AM and slept until 7AM and here we are now at 7:53AM. I don’t understandddd. D: I’m going to definitely attempt more sleep, but I have to call my doctor soon. Do you hate it when babies cry? If it’s loud and excessive it gets overwhelming and annoying. Would you like to get snake bites? (the piercing) Not now, but I wanted them back when I was like 16.  Would you move to a new state/country to be with the one you love? That’s one of those situations I’d have to be in to know what I’d do. It’s hard for me to even imagine cause I’ve never even been close to that before. It’s also hard for me to imagine ever moving far away from my family. I think I’d try to work something else out to be honest. Like, maybe they wouldn’t mind picking up and moving here? Why would I have to move?  What is your name? Stephanie. What do you plan on buying in the future? Christmas presents for my fam soon. Who is your favorite "That '70 Show" character? An ASMR video. Why do you think a lot of people left Myspace for Facebook? Facebook became cooler for some reason. I remember not wanting to make the move at all, I thought Facebook was lame lol. I just did it because everyone literally left. I don’t know about everyone else, but when it happened for me it was soon after graduating high school and Facebook was for college students, so I guess we just graduated from Myspace or something. *shrug* It’s crazy how quickly it flip flopped, though. Myspace became lame and now we all kinda laugh about it. Do you watch the Olympics? Nope. Have you ever been to Minnesota? No. What's the strangest thing you've seen on TV? Hmm. “my give a damn’s busted”
Have you ever taken drama class? I actually did take two drama classes in community college. :O Shocking, I know. Have you ever rode a mechanical bull? Nooo. I didn’t have a jersey, I didn’t play any sports. Have you ever choked on something? Yes. I had one really traumatic experience that changed how I take my medicine ever since. That happened almost 10 years ago now, but ever since I’ve had to crush my pills. When I tried taking pills again not long after it happened, it literally felt like my throat was closing up every time and I was terrified of it getting lodged again. That day was really scary, my dad literally almost had to put his finger down my throat. Do you wear a belt? Nope, I only ever wear leggings. I’ve actually never worn a belt before, though. Do you have a rug in your room? No. Do you go camping during the summer? Nope. I have no interest at all in doing that. Do you carry a purse everywhere you go? Not anymore, but I used to. In most recent years it was a mini backpack. Where's your favorite place to get coffee? Honestly, I’m a basic bitch and just go to Starbucks, ha. It’s nearby and convenient and yeah. Plus, people hate on it but I actually like it. *shrug* I get really into it when they come out with their winter drinks, like they have now. I wish we had a Tim Hortons so I can see what that hype is all about. What's the last time you searched on Google? When’s the last time I searched on Google? Earlier. Which of these singers have the best voice: Katy Perry or Usher? I think they both sing well. They’re very different, you can’t really compare. What food is your weakness? Boneless garlic parm and lemon pepper wings from Wingstop. How many unread emails do you have right now? I don’t feel like checking at the moment.

2019
Hello,
Missed me?
No longer a monthly mailer – just another end of year round up.
On reflection, perhaps I’ve played it a bit safe this year, but I didn’t feel there was as much great music out there as in previous years.
Yes, I too use Google, so I have listened to all the end of year Best Of lists online, and so those artists not included just didn’t resonate with me this year.
I maintain ‘bad guy’ off Billie Eilish’s record sounds like a Super Mario bonus level (probably in a spooky dungeon)… which I suppose isn’t a bad thing. And I love Lana, but I just didn’t think the latest record was all that. And the same was true of Angel Olsen, Nick Cave, Kanye, Hot Chip… but don’t get me started on Bon Iver: avant-garde “Kum ba yah” at best (sorry Rob).
But then that’s part of the joy of music, variety and differing opinions… so please share yours! What have I overlooked? What should be revisited? Where in the depths of streaming services is that killer track from 2019?
For now, here is my list of songs, somewhat crowbarred into the monthly format (as mentioned, this email was once called New Music Monthly Mailer with five tracks a month, and surely we need some level of constancy and accountability this year).
Enjoy, or not – but please do share your own choice picks.
Merry Christmas.

ok i got something slightly different (idk what's rly ur style sry!): the kids don't wanna come home by declan mckenna, choke by idkhbtfm, green by cavetown (or lemon boy if you want a more popular song)
Sorry for taking so long to get back to you!! I got severely distracted lmao. I’ll listen to just about anything, but my favourite is like.. rock/alternative stuff? my favourite bands are panic at the disco, set it off and starset!
The Kids Don’t Wanna Come Home
couldn’t listen all the way through | not my thing | it’s okay | kinda catchy | ok i really like this | downloading immediately | already in my library
This is def my style! Idk if Id go out of my way to listen to it, but if it came on a playlist I wouldnt skip it
Choke
couldn’t listen all the way through | not my thing | it’s okay | kinda catchy | ok i really like this | downloading immediately | already in my library
Dude!!! This is so dope!!! This is my favourite one so far! I love the vibe of this one sm. It kinda reminds me of Love Me Dead by Ludo!
Green
couldn’t listen all the way through | not my thing | it’s okay | kinda catchy | ok i really like this | downloading immediately | already in my library
Its a bit softer, and thats nice! I personally prefer more upbeat stuff, but slower stuff can be really good too, especially when I get more into.. ig a calmer mood? The lyrics are sweet but also kinda melancholy and I like that
Lemon Boy
couldn’t listen all the way through | not my thing | it’s okay | kinda catchy | ok i really like this | downloading immediately | already in my library
I like this one! This persons voice is nice. Fits really well with the kind of music they do

MORE ARTISTS ADDED FOR DOT TO DOT 2020!
Tumblr media
We’re excited to announce the first 35 artists to join the bill for our 2020 event, a 15 year milestone for our award-winning festival with a reputation for bringing the hottest new talent to stages in Manchester, Bristol and Nottingham over the late-May bank holiday weekend.
This year’s event continues that tradition with the announcement of EASY LIFE as headliners following a breakout year for the band, which included a sold out UK tour, the release of their critically acclaimed mixtape, Spaceships, and a show confirmed at the prestigious Roundhouse in London as part of their forthcoming Junk Food tour. There is no doubt that 2019 was an unquestionable triumph for the Leicester five-piece, which they are certain to build upon over the next 12 months, having already been crowned Best New British Act at the 2020 NME Awards in February, and placing second in the BBC Sound Of Poll 2020 at the start of the year.
Also joining the bill is DOPE LEMON, the vibrant and experimental solo project of renowned Australian musician Angus Stone (one half of the folk-pop duo Angus and Julia Stone). Under the Dope Lemon moniker, Stone has explored new sonic grounds, culminating in the release of his second studio album Smooth Big Cat in September 2019, an album that built on from the success of his 2016 debut Honey Bones in swaggering style, with him ultimately hitting over 100 million streams with music that he describes as “songs for when the eve is about to turn into something special”.
Having opened Glastonbury’s prestigious John Peel stage in 2019, Heavenly Recordings-signed PIP BLOM, along with her namesake band, return to the UK festival circuit for D2D. Last year also saw the Amsterdam-based indie quartet release their debut album Boat, a critically acclaimed offering full of bright and infectious, grunge-infused melodies.
South-East London collective STEAM DOWN will also bring their energetic live show to Manchester, Bristol and Nottingham. Since forming back in 2007, Steam Down have received two Jazz FM awards, which include ‘Live Experience of the Year Award’ and ‘The Innovation Award’, an accolade which clearly emphasises the impact and importance they’ve had on the UK’s flourishing jazz scene throughout the decade.
Wakefield four-piece SKINNY LIVING are set to enchant audiences with their captivating brand of glorious acoustic soul. Having already amassed an impressive back catalogue which includes their recent acclaimed 2019 EP release No Messiah, the band have forged a reputation for crafting songs that contain powerful and heartfelt lyrics which have resonated with audiences en masse.
Having previously stunned D2D audiences in 2017 with his crooning songs of love and loss, prolific South London songwriter, MATT MALTESE returns to the festival for 2020. His debut album, 2018’s Bad Contestant, was a deeply charismatic release that was closely followed up by sophomore effort Krystal, released a mere 18 months later, both showcasing and capturing his writing talent.
With her 2017 debut album Belladonna of Sadness, Portland artist ALEXANDRA SAVIOR demonstrated her effortless ability to combine dreamy song writing, enchanting vocals and atmospheric arrangements, her eagerly awaited follow up, The Archer, dropped on January 10th, meaning that her appearance at Dot To Dot Festival will be one of the first chances to catch new material live on UK soil.
British R&B and trap artist S-X also joins the bill, having released an impressive three LPs since 2018. On top of that, the Wolverhampton born performer has worked as a record producer with numerous artists on other projects, including producing YouTube star KSI’s hit collaboration with Rick Ross & Lil Baby, Down Like That, which has amassed over 38 million streams on Spotify. He was also Grammy nominated for his work on Childish Gambino’s 2013 album, Because the Internet.
Each year we pride ourselves on seeking out the freshest emerging musical talent and our 15th edition, with the appointment of Easy Life as headliners, demonstrates this approach and ethos right through the core of the festival. Dot To Dot organiser and Director of Live at DHP Family, Dan Ealam, said: “We can’t wait to celebrate the festival’s 15th birthday with some of the most exciting acts from across the World. It’s extra special having Easy Life along to headline after gracing some of the festival’s smaller stages in recent years and we’re excited to mix up the programming to keep the festival moving forward for another 15 years! There’s plenty more acts to be announced as we build up to our birthday and some surprises too!”
Completing the bill so far, and filling some of those smaller stage slots that this year’s headliners have graced in the past, are: BAMILY, whose D2D debut comes after months of vibrant live sets at unconventionally located secret gigs in London; BIRTHH, the creative “dark alter-ego” of Italian artist Alice Bisi; Swedish-born Robin Lundback, aka BOY IN SPACE, with his emotional musical landscapes; ALLMAN BROWN, who has been hailed amongst today’s most compelling new singer-songwriters; CHARTREUSE, following a recent stint on tour with Bombay Bicycle Club; OLIVIA DEAN’s undeniable voice and youthful “Friday-night-down-the-pub” storytelling; DRUG STORE ROMEOS, having just been named on the bill for Annie Mac’s emerging artist series; GRACEY, who released her debut EP last year after writing hits for some of the industry’s leading pop acts; TAYLOR JANZEN, fresh from gaining critical acclaim from the likes of NPR, New York Times and NYLON; Nottingham-based, JERUB, with his blend of genres and powerful vocals; Creators of good ol' fashioned guitar music, LANGKAMER; Manchester-based post-punk trio LIINES; Electro-pop New Zealander NAVVY; The heartfelt lyricism of TAY OSKEE, whose breezy rhythms are reminiscent of his Mission Beach hometown; EVE OWEN, after recently lending her warm and hopeful vocals to The National’s song Where Is Her Head; PIST IDIOTS, who bring their notorious live show to the festival; PRESS CLUB, the Australian garage-punk outfit who released 2 LPs last year; Emerging artist RESPONS, with influences ranging from the sounds of Gospel to Hip-Hop; Crouch End quintet, SAD BOYS CLUB, with their emotive and ambitious indie-pop sound; Recent Island Records signee from Nottingham, ALFIE SHARP; AARON SMITH, the Scottish singer-songwriter with 8 million Spotify streams; East London-born / Birmingham-raised rapper KOFI STONE, whose 2019 debut album included features from Loyle Carner and Maverick Sabre; the honest songwriting and stadium-sized songs of SOMEBODY’S CHILD; SPACEY JANE with the breezy blend of garage pop & indie rock that earned them a nomination for ‘Unearthed Artist of the Year’ at the J Awards in their native Australia; TIDE LINES, whose songs are sung in English with a nod to their Scottish Gaelic heritage; Championed by BBC Introducing, BESSIE TURNER returns after a D2D performance in 2019; and Jacob Slater’s WUNDERHORSE, joins the bill, fresh from touring with the likes of Dope Lemon and Willie J Healy. Plus many more still to be announced.

Mocha, ice lemon tea, iced cafe mocha, mint tea, vanilla latte
Mocha : Dream Job? hmm tbh it would be a dream to like be an actor, i always found it so fascinating, i mean i wouldnt mind to try it in the future or something like that, even to learn how to make sets would be dope, which ive tried going to school for, but i mean i also would love to like own my own halloween/ haunt store and haunted attraction, that was once a big goal of mine, but those would just be hobbies i feel like cuz they would be seasonal. I even wanted to have my own theater/ haunted attraction. ive had alot of ideas and wonders about what i wanna do, havent quiet figured it out yet but ill get there, i just want to try to enjoy doing my passions and strive and find just what that is. either something to do with movies or the haunt world or something else i could be good at, i have an eye for things, ill find it.
Iced Lemon Tea : Favorite song/band? Hmm i have alot of favs so its tough but i will go with Kid Cudi - GHOST! and ive answered an ask previously where i listed my fav bands/artist, but everyone should know by now ill say Cudi is my fav, I do have others tho :P
Iced Cafe Mocha : Favorite thing to do on rainy days? hmm im mostly at work or sleeping when its raining or im driving in it or some shit, but what i would be doing on a rainy day would prob be watching movies, relaxing.
Mint Tea : How do you relax? hmm still wondering about that haha, but actually browsing stores and hunting for goods relaxes my mind, the cold wind can tend to relax me, looking up at the night sky, having movie/ hang nights with friends, doing stuff around my house like hang pictures or organize things. watching jimmy fallon, listening to cudi.
Vanilla Latte : Board games or drinking games? hmm board games, i mean people are drinking most the time theyre playing, and i havent really played much drinking games, i would like to try some out tho to figure this out.

So what we can all take away from Triple J’s Hottest 100 of 2016 is that Australians (and various others) have near no taste whatsoever and will listen to any group / band / artist so long as they play at under 2BPM, sing like they trying to emulate Bjork, and will 100% play at Falls or Splendour or Laneway. Gotta get that alternative indie cred fam. Also apparently people still care about the FUCK word being sung in songs what losers. Who the fuck cares about songs with swearing why did they make such a big deal out of that? Someone play them Family Reunion for god sake. Destroy their perfectly sheltered worlds in which no one has ever spoken the word BUTTS around them.
Anyway whatever here’s what I thought about these songs. Shoutout to their being 20 songs that were completely meh and worthless. Shoutout to their being seven Ew Violent Soho tracks. Shoutout to people for still supporting Sticky Fingers (aka the worst band in the world). Shoutout also to the fact that there were a bunch of cool as shit female fronted acts in this hottest 100 and that the top three all had singers who were women (even though two of those top three songs were shite). That’s still cool as shit. And just lemme say, dear 2017, all I want from you in terms of mainstream radio music is for it to get out of this weird ass 2BPM funk it’s been in for the last couple years. I don’t want everyone to be Dillinger or Converge or Rolo Tomassi or anything like that, I just want all those beige, blasé, wishy washy falls / splendour / laneway festival dick sucking indie vibe pop artists to light a fire under their collective asses. I want an honest to god pop banger from 2017. Just one. That’s all.
So yeah, here’s the list:
Actually wait come back I’m not done yet here’s something else you can take away, from me this time. Do not--I repeat--do fucking not ever do a list like this in Microsoft Excel. God I love that program so much but god damn never again never ever ever again. Just don’t do it. Save yourself the screaming into a pillow for 800 minutes after it won’t copy into a word document like you want it to and you have to format everything from GOD DAMN MOTHERFUCKING SCRATCH. Just don’t do it. It’s tempting I know but. No. Just don’t.
Anyway here da list now:
100) Birds of Tokyo // Brace
Not what I want from the Birds, sorry. I am not a fan of that new album at all. But I guess I'm glad they got in anyway? Because I mean Ian Kenny man. Just Ian Kenny. Love that dude. One of the best vocalists ever.
99) Drake (w/ Rihanna) // Too Good
Meh #1.
98) Glass Animals // Season Two, Episode Three
Meh #2.
97) Alex Lahey // You Don't Think You Like People Like Me
Not bad tbh. Kinda small production wise. And they talk about sleepy eyes god dammit. But yeah it's not a bad song.
96) Elk Road (w/ Natalie Foster) // Hanging By a Thread
The Billy Talent song of the same name is better. In fact don't listen to this one, just go listen to the Billy Talent song.
95) Flume (w/ Vic Mensa) // Lose It
No thanks Flume. No thanks.
94) Vallis Alps // Fading
Boring as fuck.
93) Empire of the Sun // High & Low
Meh #3.
92) Violent Soho // How to Taste
Ew Violent Soho #1.
91) The Avalanches // Subways
Meh #4.
90) Luca Brasi // Anything Near Conviction
Why did these guys get to live but Paper Arms didn't??? That makes me so incredibly sad and disappointed.
89) Safia // Over You
Ew gross.
88) Childish Gambino // Me & Your Mama
This song doesn't transition well at all and I really don't like it.
87) Dope Lemon // Uptown Folks
Dope Lemon's music… surprisingly not dope.
86) Bliss n Eso (w/ Thief) // Dopamine
This song is pretty fucking good. It's ~~~vibe~~~ as fuck, but it's done really damn well. Dark as fuck, until Eso's verse. Seems all that dude wants to rap about now is his wife and kids and how much light they bring to his life. And I mean there ain't anything wrong with that, but Idk if it really fits.
85) Safia // My Love is Gone
No thanks I'm good.
84) Frank Ocean // Pink & White
Meh #5. I really don't get why people are so fuckin hype over Frank Ocean. He kinda boring tbh.
83) Tkay Maidza // Simulation
The single artwork for this song kind of--I would say triggers me but, well… It makes me really uncomfortable I guess. I think I can say that. It's on the same shit as the cover of the last Miley Cyrus album. Just gross. This song though? Meh #6.
82) Thundamentals (w/ Peta & the Wolves) // Think About It
Meh #7.
81) Desiigner // Panda
Man this song is annoying. Like YES MY DUDE you just keep saying Panda over and over you lyrical genius.
80) Banks // Gemini Feed
Meh #8.
79) Radiohead // Burn the Witch
I don't understand what people love so much about Radiohead. To say they go over my head may be an understatement. To me they're just boring, pretentious-ass indie for tweed jacket prats. They just do nothing for me.
78) Vera Blue // Settle
Vera Blue isn't that good just sayin. She's literally so unmemorable and nondescript and boring.
77) Catfish & the Bottlemen // Sound Check
I actually kind of like this album negl. I heard one of their songs on one of Leah's streams a while ago and I was like hey this is cool I can dig it. And I do indeed dig it. Pretty hype indie rock leaning more towards the rock.
76) The Amity Affliction // This Could Be Heartbreak
Never Alone. This song is just Never Alone from Let the Ocean Take Me. It's literally the same son--how are you people nOT FUCKING HEARING THIS!???!!!
75) The Avalanches // Because I'm Me
Oh so thiiiis is The Avalanches. Yeah I didn't think I'd like them and I don't.
74) Camp Cope // Lost: Season One
Camp Cope are pretty good. I feel like they're really fucking overhyped. But for one of *those* bands, they're pretty good. I do like their music.
73) Violent Soho // No Shade
Ew Violent Soho #2.
72) Kanye West // Famous
Nah man. Sorry Kanye. Just… uuuuugh. Nope.
71) Broods // Free
Meh #9.
70) Golden Features (w/ Julia Stone) // Wolfie
Shoutout to Melanie Martine--wait what??? This isn't her? Shit. This person sounds exatly like Melanie Martinez. Which means they sound like poopy bad stuff.
69) Violent Soho // So Sentimental
Ew Violent Soho #3.
68) LDRU (w/ Savoi) // Next to You
Hey this is that annoying group from the Arias. Gross kill em with fire.
67) The Amity Affliction // I Bring the Weather With Me
I liked this song. Still like this song. One of the only good songs on that last album.
66) Beyonce // Hold Up
Meh #10. Yes I absolutely just meh-ed a song off Lemonade. To be fair, I’ve never been a Beyonce fan. I’ve not even listened to Lemonade. I wasn’t intending to. And I’m still not after hearing this song. I’m just not into that kind of music.
65) The Amity Affliction // All Fucked Up
No thanks. Not a great amity song. Have talked about it before. You can wade through my archive if you really wanna know.
64) Maggie Rogers // Alaska
Fuck sake. Going in hard with this totally bland and unmemorable made for Falls Festival indie vibe pop bullshit aren't we. WAKE THE FUCK UP AUSTRALIA THIS MUSIC IS NOT GOOD IN ANY WAY.
63) Glass Animals // Life Itself
Meh #11.
62) Dope Lemon // Marinade
Dope Lemon's music… still surprisingly not dope.
61) King Gizzard // Gamma Knife
Meh #12. Yeah, I just meh-ed King Gizzard. I do not like King Gizzard. Super fuckin overrated.
60) Sofi Tukker // Drinkee
Oh hey this is one of those "club bangers" I keep hearing so much about, right? Like, if you're wondering what a "club banger" sounds like in 2016, look no further than this piece of trash that isn't a banger at all.
59) Frank Ocean // Solo
Meh #13.
58) Ali Barter // Girlie Bits
Hey this is a pretty cool song. Could've gone either way with that song title. Could've been boring indie vibe pop shit. But I'm glad it isn't. Glad it's a bit more rocky and in ur face about its themes.
57) Catfish & the Bottlemen // Twice
Hey cool more Catfish. This is the one I heard in Leah's stream. Great song.
56) Paces (w/ Guy Sebastian) // Keeping Score
Meh #14. But yo shoutout to Gollywog. Good to see he's still doing the music thing. Guess his win in Aus Idol is still propelling his carreer or something so that's cool. At least he's not getting into fights outside strip clubs like some people, hey Mr. Noll?
55) RÜFÜS // Say a Prayer for Me
Meh #15.
54) Blink-182 // Bored to Death
FUCK. YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
53) Violent Soho // Blanket
Ew Violent Soho #4.
52) Halsey // Love Yourself
No thanks Hals. Boring-ass vibe pop why is this still a thing!!!???? Also ain’t that shit a Justin Bieber song. Is he still relevant? Really man? Really?
51) Sticky Fingers // Outcast at Last
FUCKING KILL THIS BAND. LET IT DIE FOR GOD SAKE.
50) Gang of Youths // Strange Diseases
Hey didn't these guys have a song I liked last year? Damn. Cuz I do not like this one.
49) Hilltop Hoods (w/ James Chatburn) // Higher
Hey I like this song! Coolio!
48) Kingswood // Creepin
Kings of Leon? Is that you? Also shoutout to Minecraft I guess.
47) D.D Dumbo // Walrus
Meh #16.
46) Mac Miller (w/ Anderson Paak) // Dang!
Oh god the fuck is this? Ew no thanks ew ew ew ew.
45) AB Original (w/ Paul Kelly & Dan Sultan) // Dumb Things
IT'S GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOD! Great lyrics from Briggs and Trials.
44) D.D Dumbo // Satan
Meh #17.
43) MØ // Final Song
Splendour in the Grass / Falls Festival: The Song. I mean it has clicks (finger clicks) and everything like damn. Boring as fuck.
42) Broods // Heartlines
Hello again Halsey.
41) The Weeknd (w/ Daft Punk) // I Feel it Coming
Eh, bit repetitive. What happened to that mad dark smooth fly motherfucker shit he was doing?
40) Kid Cudi (w/ Pharrell) // Surfin
Again. Repetitive as shit.
39) DMAs // Step Up the Morphine
Wait what!? Didn't I like this band in last year's 100 too??? Didn't they have hype music that was energetic and good? I legitimately thought this was Sticky Fingers for a second. It's like boring made for Splendour indie rock bullshit.
38) Glass Animals // Youth
It was almost good for five seconds. Almost. But then he started singing and I died. And not in a good way. Also that weird electronic looped instrumental thing in the chorus is the most annoying thing ever. Like this whole song is just annoyingly like "oh look at our instrumental it's so quirky and odd and off kilter wow cool."
37) Flume (w/ Vince Staples & Kucka) // Smoke & Retribution
I don't get why people are like "wow flume is a geat musician / producer / whatever." Isn't the big thing with him meant to be the beats and instrumentals? Because honestly the instrumental behind this track is just so boring and empty I don't get it.
36) Sticky Fingers // Sad Songs
KILL STICKY FINGERS.
35) Client Liaison // World of Our Love
These losers just said "turn it up to 11 cuz we're gonna raise the roof" this song better be a FUCKING BANGER. Ew gross. It's not a banger. It's kinda like The Sound by The 1975 (instrumentally) but not even as hype. Like. This is not a banger. How could one even turn this song up to 11???? How does this song even raise the roof? Impossible. False advertising. Fake facts. This is like boring mid 00's radio pop but with a bit of a Splendour bent. Ew. No thanks.
34) Dune Rats // Scott Green
Oh god I'm ashamed to admit I've seen this band live before. That was a dark period of my life. I wasn’t thinking straight tbh. Nah I kid. Live it Up music festival back in 2013 or whenever I went to that one for Getaway and Amity. But yeah they're essentially just Soho Jr. Sooooooooooooooooooooo… Ew Violent Soho #5.
33) Dune Rats // Bullshit
Ew Violent Soho #6.
32) Tash Sultana // Notion
Hey this is starting off pretty good. Idk who this is. Sounds like Daughter kinda. Oh shit this is Tash Sultana? Holy fuck. Okay interesting. I kinda just wrote her off as one of those Vera Blue / Bec Sandridge / whoever the fuck else is in that scene whose music is totally nondescript and not original or moving in any way. But this is actually really good. Well guess you can't really judge a book by the cover, or by the series it runs in. That being said, this song is, as with most other songs in this countdown, ~~~vibe~~~ as hecky. But like Bliss n Eso's track, it's just done way better than everyone else. Also this song uses real instruments. So, not electronic vibe shit or anything like that. Yo hey that guitar solo was just pretty cool, short lived as it was. Really love how she raises her voice and gets a bit raspy at the end. Pretty cool shit.
31) Drake (w/ Wizkid & Kyla) // One Dance
Meh #18.
30) RÜFÜS (Whatsonot Remix) // Innerbloom
Oh god it hasn't even started and this is already sounding like every other electronic vibe pop artist. Who is it? Rufus? Peking Duck? Hermitude? Flume? Oh shit it's Rufus FUCKIN CALLED THAT SHIT. Ew, vibe pop. OH MY FUCKING GOD IS THAT THE SAD MLG AIRHORN BEING SAMPLED AT THE END HERE HOLY SHIT HOOLY SHIT HOLY SHI THIS SONG IS A MEME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D
29) Sticky Fingers // Our Town
WHY THE FUCK after everything the singer did ARE YOU ABSOLUTE FUCKING TASTELESS LOSERS STILL SUPPORTING THIS BAND. Like I get the whole “parse the art from the artist thing” even though I kinda don’t, I just respect all of you who tout that response. That being said, Sticky Fingers are the reason the Australian music scene is so fucked. The music they make that people perpetually rip off. Absolutely disgusting.
28) The Avalanches // Frankie Sinatra
OH SHIT THIS FUCKING SONG. WHAT SONG IS THIS WHO IS IT BY??? I HATE IT BUT I HEAR IT EVRYWHERE AND I WANT TO KILL WHOEVER MADE IT. Ah okay it's the Avalanches. Yeah okay I don't like this song at all. So fucking annoying. It's like carny music GOD I HATE IT SO MUCH.
27) Gretta Ray // Drive
Literally never heard of this chick before who??? She won shit? Oh. Guess I missed the memo. That being said, this isn't actually terrible. I mean at least her voice is distinct. At least this song is ya know, kinda poppy I guess. Real instruments and shit. That's always a plus. This is enjoyable indie rock. Everyone else in Australia, take note. You don't have to sing about weed and drinking and be reverbed to fuck to make good indie rock.
26) Safia // Make Them Wheels Roll
Literally the exact opposite of that Gretta Ray song that was just on. Totally unmemorable instrumental. Wishy washy vocals. A lot of post production ambient additions and shit. Like. None of that shit is natural at all and that makes me sad. I mean, it wouldn't make this song good if it was, but ya know.
25) Montaigne // Because I Love You
Hey Montaigne is pretty good. Her vocal performances are hella dramatic (sometimes overly so, like in this song). That being said, this song bangs, at least. I mean it's boppy as hell unlike nearly evertything on this list so that's a plus. She just has better songs than this one tbh. But I'm still really glad she got in.
24) Cub Sport // Mess Me Up
Fucking Cub Sport FUCK OFF. I've seen these guys live too. They weren't great. Super boring. Super nondescript. Just like… eh. How do you get into music like this. I mean probably SWAYING WITH YOUR EYES CLOSED CLUTCHING A BOTTLE OF VODKA IN YOUR HAND THAT"S HOW AYOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. That's a dig at the Australian festival crowd. Like, there was an interview in which this band talked about how edgy this song is and I literally gagged like what the fuck? Edgy? FUCKING EDGY? Fucking idiots.
23) Illy (w/ Anne-Marie) // Catch 22
I don't really like Illy tbh. I respect his artistry and shit. But I just don't like him as a rapper.
22) Kanye West // Ultralight Beam
Wow how minimalistic and boring is this HOT DAMN.
21) The Smith St Band // Death to the Lads
Hey I voted for this just cuz Smith St. And I like Smith St. The best Aus band in this scene. The pioneers of this scene in Aus? Maybe. Who knows. But yeah this is a pretty good folk punk track. Chorus in this song is a fucking huge chant-along. Love it. Not their strongest song, but it's still good. And I like the whole death to the lads sentiment because lads are gross.
20) The XX // On Hold
This is the XX? This is the band people are so hype about? This is that rip-off of an Ed Sheeran album cover I see everywhere? Man this is boring as nobs.
19) Catfish & the Bottlemen // 7
Sick more Catfish. Like the acoustic in the pre-chorus of this track. That was a nice touch. This song's honestly almost a ballad pace-wise. But that crescendo is cool as fuck.
18) Chance the Rapper (w/ Knox Fortune) // All Night
Lol what the fuck is this bullshit is this a joke? Shoutout to THE MOST REPETITIVE SONG OF 2016! And shoutout to drinking all night I guess.
17) Big Scary // The Opposite of Us
Idk what this is but it could be good. This opening is good. Kinda minimalistic. But good. Big Scary? Never heard of him. But this song is nice. Love that simple piano riff / drum riff repetition with the bass in the background occasionally. I mean it's kinda ~~~vibe~~~ but not. It's nice. Just a nice pop track.
16) AB Original (w/ Dan Sultan) // January 26
Hey I voted for this one!!! Great anti-Aus day song. Or I mean. Great change the date song, I should say. Also a song that shows you how stupid Australia day as a concept is and how stupid all you people who celebrate it, actually are. And that little interview they did was pretty legit too, about the fact that people need to be presented with what Australia day means for the true owners of the land.
15) Miike Snow // Genghis Khan
Is this song about fucking? I feel like this song's about the sex. I also feel like I don't like this song. Crazy.
14) Violent Soho // Viceroy
Ew Violent Soho #7.
13) Mura Masa (w/ A$AP Rocky) // Love$ick
Meh #19. OH MY FUCKING GOD THEY JUST SAMPLED THE MLG TRIPLE AIRHORN OH MY FUCKING GOD.
12) Milky Chance // Cocoon
Meh #20.
11) Pnau // Chameleon
Alright this song is already annoying fuck me. Literally three seconds in and it makes me want to throw my mouse (computer mouse, chill) at a wall. This is like, a late 00's club banger with radio appeal. And I am not a fan.
10) The Weeknd (w/ Daft Punk) // Starboy
Hell yeah there's that dark, velvety smooth, fly motherfucker shit I enjoy from The Weeknd songs that I have heard. I should listen to this album. And the rest of his albums too. Cuz he has some great songs.
9) Peking Duk (w/ Elliphant) // Stranger
I don't even got to listen to this to say FUUUUUUUUUUUCK NO. THANKS.
8) Flume (w/ Tove Lo) // Say It
Go away Flume. I will say that I do like the vocals in this song. The instrumental is totally nothing material. But the vocal performance is pretty great. Wish it had a more memorable instrumental.
7) Illy (w/ Vera Blue) // Papercut
Ditto what I said for Catch 22 and also Settle.
6) DMAs // Believe
Great song. Alright cover I guess.
5) Childish Gambino // Redbone
I guess the instrumental is nice. Dark. Kind of reminds me of one of Mary Elizabeth Mcglynn's songs from Silent Hill Two. I Want Love in particular. But yeah this dude's voice, I do not dig it kinda annoying tbh.
4) Hilltop Hoods (w/ Montaigne & Tom Thum) // 1955
Don't really like this song save for Montaigne's performance tbh. Least favourite Hilltop song ever.
3) Tash Sultana // Jungle
Number three though. What the fuck it gonna be????? It's Tash Sultana again. And another good song from her. Coolio. Might have to check out her album.
2) Amy Shark // Adore
Hey Halse--Oh shit what this ain't Halsey??? Fuck. Oh okay it's someone called Amy Shark. Ya know what fuck it hi Halsey! Oh man hell yeah let's have more songs about getting drunk don't have enough of them yet do we!
1) Flume (w/ Kai) // Never Be Like You
Welp this ain't Like Soda. I don't even know what this is. Shoutout to the anti-climax I guess. OH IT'S FUCKING FLUME SOD OFF MATE. Shoutout to Flume for making the most jarring pairing of instrumental and vocal performance ever.

Vanilla Chai Latte, Flat White, Cappuccino, Mocha, Pumpkin Spice, Jasmine Tea, Old English, Iced Chocolate, Caramel Frappe, Iced Lemon Tea, Iced Cafe Mocha, Hot Chocolate, Caramel Macchiato, Green Tea, Early Grey, Mint Tea, Vanilla Latte, Iced Coffee, Italian Soda, Sparkling Water, Orange Juice, Rose Hip Tea, Herbal Tea, yes every one... don't pussy out on me Amanda.
Vanilla Chai Latte : Are you in love?
Negative.
Flat White : Coffee or Tea?
It really depends on my mood, but as of late tea, preferably mango green tea.
Cappuccino : What’s your middle name?
Marie. It sucks. But, I was named after someone so I suppose I'll live with it.
Mocha : Dream Job?
That's difficult. I imagine something where I'm able to be creative and get paid for it. Something like a writer (if I was half decent at it) or an artist (I paint decent). I'd be happy just to have a job doing something I truly enjoy.
Pumpkin Spice : Dream car?
1967 Impala. Black. Dean Winchester vibes.
Jasmine Tea : If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
My dream in life is to be able to travel to various countries, so my list is long, but on the top of the list for the past few years has been Turkey. I've seen a lot of travel vlogs and it just looks absolutely breathtaking. But Iceland, Sweden, Norway and the Netherlands are all also in my top five.
Old English : You’re stranded on an island, who do you bring with you?
Do I have to bring someone? Like can I just chill by myself? I suppose if I had to, I would bring my best friend, naturally, and I imagine his military background might come in handy.
Iced Chocolate : Do you have a crush on someone?
I'm low key a hopeless romantic at heart, so, always.
Caramel Frappe : Favorite video game?
Assassins Creed. Only the Ezio saga tho.
Iced Lemon Tea : Favorite song/band?
This is literally the most difficult question I could ever be asked. I can't choose ONE band. Even my favorite song can't be limited to one, so I'll give you my top 3 in no particular order:
1. Don't Fear the Reaper - Blue Oyster Cult
2. Killing Loneliness - HIM
3. Dreams - Fleetwood Mac
Iced Cafe Mocha : Favorite thing to do on rainy days?
Be lazy, read/write, paint, watch horror movies, and smoke.
Hot Chocolate : Are you an affectionate person?
Surprisingly yes, very much so.
Caramel Macchiato : You’re travelling the entire world but you can only take one person with you. Who do you take?
Somone who would appreciate traveling as much as I do, and who would be good company. Somone who would be down for deep conversation while observing ancient ruins and shit.
Green Tea : How tall are you?
5'6
Early Grey Tea : The inevitable Zombie Apocalypse is upon us! What’s your plan of action?
Stock up on weapons and ammo and hope for the best.
Mint Tea : How do you relax?
Pretty much the same things I would do on a rainy day but beyond that hiking or being in nature in general is incredibly peaceful for me.
Vanilla Latte : Board games or drinking games?
Why not both? You can't make me choose.
Iced Coffee : Do you like reading? If so, what’s your favorite book?
Love it. And the answer typically changes every few months or so when I pick up something new, but one of my all time favs is Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur.
Italian Soda : Describe your dream date
It's been so long since I've had a formal one it's hard to say, but again, anything involving nature and/or good music would be bomb af.
Sparkling Water : Describe what qualities you look for in a person
Honesty, humor, and understanding? I really don't look for much, I'm attracted to dope souls so that's the main thing.
Orange Juice : Have you ever had a valentine?
Once, like 10 years ago.
Rose Hip Tea : Describe your first kiss
Oh boy. Kindergarten. His name was Ethan. I kissed him, he was immediately offput and yelled followed by telling our teacher. I'm still embarrassed.
Herbal Tea : You’re at a candle shop, what scented candle do you buy?
Anything with amber, bergamot or patchouli.
I hope your happy now, this took a vast amount of effort lol.

How’d Winston Do This Weekend? 10/12-10/14
WHATTTTT A SWEET DELICIOUS DADDY OF A WEEKEND! I had a show each night. Two booked and one open mic. I love weekends where I am working. This coming weekend I’m off because of a wedding, but then after that it is back to work!!!
Let’s start with Friday night. I figured I was in town so I might as well head down to Slyderz in Richmond. This room on Friday night’s is run by Lynn Painter, who used to run a show at Cary 100 on Wednesdays. It’s an urban room with dope staff, and killer wings and sliders. I got there at around 7:15 and only other person there was the bartender.
I ended up ordering the dry rub wings and they were absolutely delicious! I am a wing boy. I love chicken wings. This was like the 5th time in 7 days where my dinner was chicken wings. I am going to die young, but I will have a huge smile in the casket with sweet buffalo sauce and lemon pepper running through my veins.
Lynn showed up around 7:50 and started to set up. We caught up a bit, and shot the shit until a couple other comics showed up. Chris St. John and Moe Singleton. Both newer comics who are out here grinding at shows. Chris had a ukulele with him and was also carrying a copy of the book Psycho Cybernetics by Maxwell Maltz. It’s basically a self help book written by a plastic surgeon. I know nothing about it other than it sounds like it would be some of the most superficial wack ass shit of all time, but Chris swears by it.
Turns out he set some of the groundwork for a lot of modern self-help books and workshops. It’s all about getting a positive outcome through visualization. So sounds pretty interesting, but honestly I’ve never been into self-help stuff. It always feels like common sense with fancy wrapping paper and a price tag on it. But if it works for you laydees more power to you. I am definitely a proponent of self-fulfilling prophecy so I don’t have too much room to talk.
At this point it starts to look like nobody is going to show up. It is after 8 (the start time) and we have a limited number of comics and no audience, but then they started to come in. When the show started we ended up with about 11 ppl there, so we were ready to get it on the road.
Lynn went first and was performing with hip-hop music playing super loudly behind him. He did a good job of making sure the audience was done ordering, and eating by the time he brought the first comic up which is always appreciated.
The first comic up was Moe. The best part is Moe had been waiting like 35 minutes for his wings to get there. As soon as his wings arrive and he takes his first bite Lynn yell’s, “give it up for MOE SINGLETON!”
That is one of the great fears as a comedian. That your sweet, delicious, precious, dripping with sauce wings will arrive as soon as you’re called on stage.
So Moe is up there doing his material with Asian Zing sauce on his hands an the has an ok set. A lot of stuff doesn’t work but he has some stuff that does. There is one lady in the audience who is throwing shade the entire set. Just side comments and being salty during the set. The highlight of which was Moe closing super strong doing his best joke, and people start clapping. She responds by saying, “y’all really gonna clap for that? Ok then.” Which honestly absolutely destroyed me.
I am up second and I decide that Im going to have to get control of this crowd. So I start my set by talking to “the mean lady”. Just busting her balls by asking her why she had to be so mean to Moe. That we are all following our dreams and she’s just ruining them, and it was killing. It was a super fun set. I ask her what her name is and she avoids the question multiple times by shoveling fries in her mouth which was absolutely hilarious to me. This goes on for like 5 minutes and I get other people involved and it turned out into being a super fun set.
Honestly those are the best and most fun ways to handle a heckler. It was addressed to the point where she apologized to Moe but nothing was said that was so mean that she’d feel offended and walked out. She was laughing and having a super fun time as well.
After getting control of the room I did about 2 new jokes and they both worked really well. They were both race jokes, and I like gauging an all black crowd to make sure that what I'm saying makes sense and isn’t ridiculous and offensive.
I’d give this set about an A-. I felt really good about it, and it was definitely the best set of work week. It put me in a good mood for the two booked shows I had the rest of the weekend.  Definitely a dope start to the weekend.
Saturday I had a super chill and relaxing day which was nice. I almost completely forgot I was booked at The Push comedy theatre in Norfolk VA. I was supposed to be on the showcase, but regular host/comic Hatton Jordan was under the weather and needed someone to host and zaddy needs the money so I agreed.
They had several dropouts so I had to snag a comic to ride with. I figured I’d pick a newer comic who could use the experience, so I guilted Rick Williams to skip his hockey game to ride with me.
We headed down, and had a super good conversation about comedy, Richmond, goals, aspirations, and just bad show stories. So it made the 2+ hour trip go by super fast.
We get there a little early and decide to look for a bite to eat. We find this hole in the wall taco bar called Sanctuary. It is sketchy looking af. It is down an alley, it has a flickering light overhead and absolutely no way to see inside or out.
We go in and we are in this super narrow but dope spot. There is two tables and then the rest of the building is a bar that runs all the way back to the kitchen.  There is like pop/punk art on the wall, and they’re playing some rocking tunes over the speakers and running music videos that don’t match the songs on the televisions. It is like we are in a refurbished lane from a shooting range it is so narrow.
The tacos were delicious and the bartender was super nice. This will definitely be my spot to eat whenever I'm invited back to The Push.
We go over and check out part of the show going on before us. It is an improv theatre so they’re doing an improvised Halloween show to a nearly sold out crowd. The audience is loving it even if Improv isn’t my cup of tea. We watch for about thirty minutes and decide to head to the lobby to get ready for the show.Once in the lobby the other comics start to arrive including Kyle Phalen and Nick Deez (rva transplant).
The first show ends and they make na announcement that if you were there for the first show you get into the stand up show for free. This is dope and we get a pretty good retention with about 20 people staying for the stand up show. This coupled with the people that bought tickets led us to having about 35+ ppl at the show which was sick.
They had us set up with a music mic stand stand, I said bump that and went to the car to get a traditional one. I just never really like anything but a round base mic stand. I might be crazy but it just is comfortable.
The show starts and I do about 15 or 16. I had a pretty good hosting set. I get so in my head and don’t do what I should do which is crowd work. I do about 1 minute of it and then go into my material. Half of my stuff hits really hard, the rest does ok, and only one thing doesn’t work at all. All in all for a host set it was pretty dope. I’d say this was a C.
Honestly compared to what I can do I’d say this was definitely average, but that’s ok. People are now settled down and ready for the show. I did my job as a host, and I can tell people appreciated what I was doing. The big pops really popped.
Next up is Rick Williams, and he DID NOT DO SO HOT. Oooooweeeee laydees. He definitely was having one of those sets where you can tell the person on stage is hating it. It was a good learning experience for him. He’s in that stage of being a new comic where a lot of what he writes is sexual, violent, edgy, etc.
It was cool to see him work through that, end up getting a few laughs and realize once he got off stage that he has other things he needs to work on. Always impressive to see a new comic really understand that not everything is going to work everywhere and it is good to be versatile.
Later Nick Deez went up and had the set of the night. The people really dug and vibed with what he was doing on stage. He’s about a year in, and def making some strides. These are some of my fav people to bust balls with, so we were having a blast after the show.
I was singing a cover of Harvey Danger’s Flagpole Sitta where I changed all of the lyrics to being about Rick bombing. I had so much fun I’m definitely recording a cover of it on Garageband and when he leasts expects it I will release it haha.
All in all a super dope night with good friends. The ride back was fun as well. We got deeper into comedy, and our fears about doing it. Talked about my hopeful future move, and why I’m so scared of it.
We really got into some kinda deep territory, but it was definitely good to do. I am super self conscious about my self and especially my comedy. I pride myself on being the hardest working comic in the area. All I can control is how many shows I do, how much I write, and how critical I am of myself. I legitimately will do and have done shows anywhere. I’ve done clubs, colleges, coffee shops, urban rooms, improv theatres, dive bars, redneck bars, nightclubs, alt rooms, theatres, I've opened for bands, singers, poets, drag shows, and this week I’ll be performing on my first burlesque show. Unfortunately I always have this fear that I can’t cut it in certain rooms, but each show is a reminder that that is bullshit and I’ll put my stuff up against whoever.
We ended our night getting McDonalds drive thru at 2 am, and that is the perfect way to end a night of comedy. I went to sleep happy knowing I had brunch and one last show the next day.
Sunday I go to brunch with Brock Hall and Rick Williams at Metro Diner in Willow Lawn. It was a nice relaxing brunch which I followed up with watching the last Harry Potter movie.
Then it was time to get ready to head down to Newport News to be on Sunday Funnies at Cozzy’s Comedy Club which is Virginia’s longest continuously running comedy club. I always enjoy this show, because it is run and booked by my good friend Holly Owens.
This week Mu Cuzzo was hosting and the lineup was filled with some of my favorite people to hang and chill with. Closing it out was Sid Bridge who runs the open mic at Cozzys and is an all around swell jew. We also had Jounte Ferguson, Torrey Huggins, and Ryan Valentine on the mic. Allison Moore was also on the show and finally there was Mike Jay. I’ve never met or seen Mike Jay before but he seemed like a good guy.
This is one of those shows that you have to make fun. There were 13 people there and 5 of them weren’t on the show and weren’t employees. But honestly Mu brought some good energy in what I assume was his first time hosting. We all just got into it and it became one giant super fun workshop.
Jounte did a new joke about how he might have slept with a r******d girl. I work at a school for autism so I don’t use that word on stage, it doesn’t work for me personally, but I will never police a comic’s language on stage.
When I went up I just made myself have fun. I did nothing but crowdowrk for the first 8 minutes and it was all me asking questions to Jounte about how it was a “maybe.” Like how didn’t he know, and asking him a bunch of questions. he was getting so uncomfortable it was hilarious. Everybody was dying laughing and we were all having such a good time. I then closed with 4 minutes of new jokes and they didn’t go so hot. With an intimate crowd they really wanted the crowd work which was ok. I had a super hot and fun set and I'd honestly say for the room and how everyone else’s set went I’d give myself an A-.
The rest of the show was fun. Allison had a fun set as well, and Mike Jay did fine. He had some questions after the show about Clash of the Comics at the Richmond FunnyBone so we chatted about that for a bit before I left.
Sid closed it out and I forgot he has a few jokes I really really dig. He has one about replacing any word in a sentence with the word “jew” and it becomes offensive and it’s a great joke. I’d never seen him play bass on stage but I guess that’s what he closes with.
This was a fun show and my entire ride home I just kept thinking to myself how good it felt to do super well in front of nobody.
All of my success is tied directly to how much fun I am having on stage and I always forget that. Even in tough or weird rooms with or without audiences I need to remember I love comedy and that this shit is supposed to be fun.
So that was my weekend and it was super fun and delicious so until next time LAYDEES!!! I LOVE YOU ALL XOXO

BIOGRAPHY Probably many of you are following Angus & Julia Stone’s musical career, their debut album “A Book Like This” as well as “Down The Way” or the self-titled LP published in August 2014. You will also have listened to the content presented in the solo discs of Angus and Julia, but probably just a few are aware of the latest musical project that keeps Angus entertained. The solo project name is Dope Lemon. There is a curious link between the small brother of the Stone and his friends, like Rohin Brown (The Walking Who), Elliot Hammondo (The Delta Rigs) or Brad Heald (The Vines), among others. The result of their work have ended up into “Honey Bones” album, released last June. All cuts were recorded in a hippie commune that Stone have on a farm in Byron Bay, and serves as a complete recording studio. Belafonte Studios, is your name, inspired on “The Life Aquatic And Steve Zissou” ship. “Honey Bones” can be enjoyed via Spotify.
DOPE LEMON – HOUNDS TOOTH (2017) In mid-2016 Angus Stone announced the first Australian tour of Dope Lemon and in February of 2017 released his second album “Hounds Tooth”. Premiered on Triple J Good Nights from ABC, ‘Home Soon’ is actually based on a 1972 jam called ‘Stories’ by a Belgian band called The Chakachas. Stirred by the swinging original, Angus wrote lyrics to the track and reached out to the group to create the Dope Lemon version. As for the rest of Hounds Tooth EP, the five-track release was recorded during month-long rehearsals for last year’s Honey Bones tour. Original sessions were delayed after Angus had a snowboarding accident.
