Reiner-centric scenes were the highest on people’s radar, with 24.9% of respondents enjoying his reunion with the warrior cadets, and not far behind, 22.9% enjoyed Reiner bringing up the 104th at the dinner table. In third, with only 13.5%, was Pieck and Porco’s formal introduction to the audience.

Hearing Zeke greet his grandparents with such happiness warmed my heart. I do believe that he loves them.

WE FORGOT TO ASK LAST WEEK D: WHICH OF THE FOLLOWING SCENES/MOMENTS FROM EPISODE 60 WAS YOUR FAVORITE? 348 Responses

Last week we forgot to include what your favorite scenes were. The scene from episode 60 that got the most favor was Reiner’s, “I’m sick and tired… of walls” with 33.6% of the vote. 16.7% most enjoyed Zeke’s titan transforming scream. 14.9% were hyped about Reiner and Porco wrecking Fort Slava.

MAPPA WENT ALL OUT WITH THE CINEMATOGRAPHY IN THIS EPISODE. WHAT DID YOU THINK OF THE CINEMATIC PANS AND ROTOSCOPE ANIMATION? 349 Responses

Overall, a total of 74.5% respondents have positive feelings about MAPPA’s use of rotoscope animation and camera panning. Some felt like it was akin to watching a movie, while others are just happy to have the dynamic movement. A smaller amount of respondents didn’t have feelings one way or another, and a minority (about 10.3%) really are not a fan of this type of animation style for the series.

It felt odd sometimes as they used it for long scenes (like Udo talking or Gabi telling the story to her family) but overall it was pretty great and I prefer it to WIT's stale animation during season 3

I liked the more dynamic movement during dialogue, but my roommate found it super awkward and off-model. So a fifty-fifty split in a sample size of two lol

It could have been animated better, but I like the extra dimension it gives to scenes

Enjoyed it a lot! However, there were a few scenes that felt a bit off, like some frames were missing. Specifically, when Udo was doing all those gestures while talking with the rest of the Warrior Candidates.

It felt dynamic to the point of looking unnatural - some gestures and expressions just moved wrong

i'm split, in some scenes it was great (like reiner waking up), but in the dialogue scenes the constant movement seemed kinda unnatural and distracting

It was amazing but at the same time I'd didn't look fluid enough, especially at Udo's mouvements which made the character look kind of...video game-ish in constant moving.

So far, reception to the newer music is overall positive. 31.1% are really enjoying the music and think the songs are being used immaculately, and 40.4% really feel that the song choice compliments the scenes they’ve been used in. 13.1% think the songs are good, but miss having that sole Sawano feel to them. 10.8% just feel the music is “ok” and 2.6% aren’t a fan of the new OST tracks so far.

I mean it sounds good, but we haven't gotten to important moments that require a memorable track, so we'll see!

First episode slapped because it really complemented the scene but it's more... generic. I didn't like how it was used in this episode, there wasn't enough of it and again, generic. I miss Sawano's unreal scores.

HOW DO YOU FEEL ABOUT THE CLOSEUP OF ZEKE’S MOUTH? 346 Responses

Our first of probably too many crack questions in this poll, 32.7% thought the closeup of Zeke lighting his cigarette was cool looking. 21.4% are concerned about Zeke’s lung health. 19.1% are probably annoyed with us and simply don’t care (lol). 13.3% wouldn’t mind smooching Zeke, and 11% were just plain grossed out.

Most of the responses seemed to feel rather positively about Eldian asses, with almost 40% seeking out Zeke’s ass wiping technique. About 17% simply stated their appreciation for them, while almost 13% are just thirsty. In contrast, a little over 17% seemed confused to the question’s inclusion and about 10% were confused outright.

DO YOU WANT REINER TO GIVE YOU A HEAD PAT? 343 Responses

A definitive majority, almost 59 percent, openly expressed enthusiasm for the prospect of a head pat from Reiner. However, a near 30% fraction of responders didn’t seem too happy about this recent chain of less than serious questions. We’re sorry about that. 😅. The rest either didn’t seem interested in said prospect or noted they wouldn’t care either way.

WHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THE DECISION FROM MAPPA TO CONDENSE REINER’S FLASHBACK INTO (PRESUMABLY) A SINGLE EPISODE? 346 Responses

It would appear that the majority of those who took our poll express cautious optimism at the prospect of seeing all (or the vast majority) of Reiner’s backstory being adapted into a single episode, with a near 47% supporting the move, thinking it could make the narrative “more coherent”. Almost 20% argue it would work better pacing wise. On the flipside, just over 17% state that they would rather have a more accurate adaptation to the manga. 11.6% simply say they have no opinion. There were also more than a few write-ins.

I do wish everything could be animated to full detail, but pacing and structure will benefit here

They've done a good job so far, so I'll reserve judgement until I actually watch it.

It will be difficult as they're chapters with loads of dialogue, but they can pull it off if unnecessary stuff gets cut out or changed in some type of way (like watching Marcel's death for the sixth time, them breaking through the wall or even Jean and Eren fighting)

If they get the pacing right, then the rearrangement will be for the better.

Reiner flashbacks + Reiner suicide attempt + Falco meeting "Kruger" (more than 2,5 chapters) in a single episode? HELL NO! WTF MAPPA!

At least it looks like they're going to stick to just one episode for the RBA flashback. It was mostly just filler anyway, so there was never any need to stretch it out and waste precious time getting back to the Paradis side of the story

This question gave us a somewhat evenly split pie chart, but Porco nonetheless managed to gain the bigger piece with just over 55%. Surely due to that bomber jacket and haircut. Nearly 45% picked Pieck (gottem) instead. Must have been the somewhat inconsistent nose.

On the flip side, 68.4% seemed to prefer Pieck’s soft voice. Porco with his (how the hell does Porco sound like… how can you describe his voice) managed to win the hearts of 31.6% of responses.

Pieck voice wtf? I imagined Pieck with a more Hanji-ish voice, not this sweet and high pitched.

DID MAPPA DO PIECK’S NOSE JUSTICE? 345 Responses

The debacle over Pieck’s POWERFUL nose gave us quite a colorful pie chart. Almost 39% of responses noted that Mappa was on point with Pieck’s nose for most of the episode. Afterwards, 26.7% stated that they thought that Mappa got it right only in some points of the episode. On the flip side, another 26.7% thought that Mappa was generally quite on point throughout the entire episode. A small minority (7.8%) thought that Mappa simply did a poor job.

The animation is good, and while I don't want to complain, I have a small problem with the drawings themselves. I feel like they lack precision (like Pieck's nose, idk if that's clear).

I'm grateful for Pieck's nose. I always respected Isayama for drawing imperfect characters, because this way he has made them to look more realistic. Even though Pieck has so-called imperfect nose, she is still absolutely gorgeous. Her imperfections are part of what makes her beautiful and unique.

PORCO’S HAIR - WERE YOU TEAM RED HAIR OR BLOND HAIR? AND ARE YOU HAPPY WITH HIS ANIME COLOR SCHEME? 345 Responses

A far less controversial debacle concerned Porco’s hair scheme. The folks supporting a Blond color scheme were universally content with his hair color (all 57.4% of team Blond). On the flip side, an almost universal approval was also present from team Redhead (13.6% of those supported his blond hair color). 27.5% of the responses seemed to care not about this issue at all, however.

NOW THAT WE KNOW PORCO BETTER IN THE MANGA, DO YOU THINK HE WOULD HAVE *ACTUALLY* DONE A BETTER JOB THAN REINER IF HE HAD INHERITED THE ARMOR AND WENT TO PARADIS? 348 Responses

Porco inheriting the Armored Titan is a rather interesting what-if scenario. Perhaps of the most interesting as a whole, so it’s no surprise to see a rather divided opinion of those who took our poll. A little over 36% believe that Porco doing a better job than Reiner on Paradis is a definite possibility. Just over 24% believe it’s not likely Porco would have done better than Reiner. On the flip side, 21.6% think that is is likely Porco *would* have a more successful conduct on the island. 9.2% believe that Porco’s success is a given and in opposition to that, 8.9% think that Porco’s success would have been basically impossible.

HOW ABOUT IF PIECK HAD GONE TO PARADIS WITH THE WARRIORS? 346 Responses

Much less division here, however. 70.5% of responders believe that Pieck’s possible trip to Paradis (in the initial attack) would have not have resulted in a given “mission success” for the Warriors, although she would have been a rather useful ally. Nearly a quarter, on the other hand, think that Pieck’s inclusion would have ended the story right then and there. The rather small minority of the other responders think that Pieck would not have been useful had she participated in the mission.

GABI HAS ALWAYS BEEN A CONTROVERSIAL CHARACTER. HAS MAPPA BRINGING HER TO LIFE CHANGED YOUR FEELINGS TOWARD HER? 342 Responses

64.6% of respondents overall have positive feelings toward Gabi as of right now, with 39.5% having already been enjoying her character throughout the manga. 25.1% now view her more positively with her being brought to life. 20.2% don’t really care about Gabi either way, and 11.7% feel very negatively toward Gabi, without the anime swaying their opinions.

WITH SUCH A DIALOGUE-HEAVY ARC, CUTS WERE INEVITABLE. WHICH CUTS WERE YOU DISAPPOINTED IN, AND WHICH CUTS CAN YOU LIVE WITH?

Overwhelmingly, the scenes that were most missed by manga readers were “Pieck walking on all fours/scaring Porco”, “Zeke mentioning the Ackerman Clan”, “Reiner’s smirk when his family talks about ‘Island Devils’”, and “The imagery of Eren and Armin wrecking ships”. Smaller character details, such as Reiner mentioning how he acted like Marcel on Paradis, Gabi wishing to understand Reiner’s feelings, Falco pointing out how Reiner almost had the Armor taken from him, were also very missed by manga readers, although just less so.

General Calvi talking about Zeke’s loyalty, Gabi getting praise from her parents when they reunite, and Magath trashing the Marleyan navy, were moments that many respondents didn’t feel strongly about one way or another, or felt that these were details that weren’t really needed anyway.

Cutting the scene where Falcon talks about why Reiner kept the AT was really bad. Also the table scene could have been better. Some imagery when Reiner was describing the 104th and his smirk.

The cuts the anime has done made the spectators less informed about some story background stuff. This is in order to direct attention to the marley's eldians planning how to overcome the world's disparagement towards the power of the titans.

I'm sad they cut the gate guards. They humanize the marleyans a bit. Hope they add their scenes next episode and do them justice.

I hope we will get the Gabi/Reiner talk about understanding each other through PATHS when she eats him next episode

Great episode but U was so looking forward to the Reiner scene talking about Paradis “devils”. In the mange it was a powerful scene really adding to the duality of Reiner and the pain he has, and the animation did not do it justice. Plus some parts of his speech were probably hard to understand for a non mange reader without the flashback. (Like which one is referring to Jean for example). I really wish it had been better delivered

them into different scenes. Overall, the majority answered a big, fat, “maybe.” 15.8% are confident that what’s done has been done, and 12.6% are more optimistic that MAPPA will find a way.

Overall I was a bit disappointed. I feel like the amount of material cut from every conversation included really added up overall and gave it a very rushed feel to me. I really hope they add it all in later.

ON THE FLIP-SIDE, WHICH ADDITIONS/CHANGES DID YOU LIKE/DISLIKE?

The changes and additions that MAPPA made were overall viewed very favorably, with the scene of Porco and Pieck interacting with the warrior cadets being the most liked addition. This is followed closely by the overall character movement during dialogue scenes, the small detail about Pieck’s father being unwell, and Gabi shouting “Watashi!” on the train.

I loved the additional details made it very emotional

Unsurprisingly, 42% of respondents are hyped about Kenny’s brief return and Annie’s unlikely encounter with him in the Underground. 22.2% are eager to get that sweet Reiner angst as he is rejected by his Marleyan father. 17.8% are looking forward to Reiner’s training days.

It was just really great to see the scenes animated, it adds another level of depth and understanding to the story I believe.

Loved anime-onlies missing Eren completely. Some even thought it was him but then noticed the leg and thought against it

I think it was very well done. Just need a little getting used to with MAPPA on the reins now. I think MAPPA added some scenes to show how those Eldians over there are still just human after all and they have their own problems to deal with. 8/10 episode.

Incredible, it adapts the source material very well while adding some touches that make it unique in it's own way. As a manga reader, I'm really glad that they're doing this because it feels like a completly different experience from reading it and makes me excited on what changes or directing choices they're going to make during the course of the season, great job so far MAPPA!

The episode was good but the dinner scene didn't do justice to the manga. It didn't have the same feeling to it. I saw a lot of anime onlys thinking Reiner was just trying to talk shit about the 104th. I feel like the flashbacks during that part in the manga gave it a nostalgic feeling that helped convey what he truly felt about his time on the island. His facial expressions were not quite there either. Specially sad because it was the moment I was expecting the most this episode and because it's a big part of Reiner's character, maybe next episode can kind of fix this.

I haven't seen the anime only poll results, but given personal conversations with them I imagine quite a few could care less about the Warriors and are looking forward to the 104th showing up to stir shit up. Boy are those folks in for a treat :)

I knew I'd feel more attached to all of them once they got animated. I didn't expect getting real thirsty for Lainah.

I was so happy with how much detail MAPPA put into the background scenery. Also, I think that an underrated moment during this episode was the Marlian douchebag triggering the Eldian soldier’s PTSD. You could really feel their terror, and THEY KEPT THE HOBO EREN PART IM SO HAPPY!

Its consistently very pretty and well animated which is great of course, but I worry the team won’t be able to maintain this quality for some of the meatier scenes in the later episodes. The fast pace of the episode (compared to the manga) as well as the many cuts make it a bit harder for scenes to stick, I wish there was a bit more breathing room at times. This also makes the fancy animation and frequent rotoscoping cuts feel less impactful for me—with every scene being cut down to its core ingredients, and every scene having at least one cut with more motion and energy than we’re used to, I can’t help but feel it all kind of mashes together without sticking out as much, leaving less of an impact. (I feel really really weird actually complaining about good camerawork/animation, what the hell lol) Also hobo <3

Plenty of questions about ass but no questions about the full ED? Or how we thought the episode did at hiding Eren in plain sight?

The episode wasn't as interesting as the first one. I was yawning from time to time. Yet, I think that Mappa did a great job, because it's hard to animate full of dialogues chapters. I was disappointed of the fact that flashbacks from Paradis have been cut. I hoped to see Sasha, Connie, Ymir and Marco while Reiner was speaking about them. Without the flashbacks we just got the dry speech and this way hard to say what Reiner is really thinking about people he met on Paradis. We - as manga readers - already are aware of his feelings, but anime onlies may not know and see Reiner as cold hearted person. I'm not complaining over animations or the OST tracks because no studio is perfect and some small mistakes here and there won't destroy my fun. I just sit and enjoy the episode.

Very good, with the exception of the dinner scene, in which the director missed the mark completely with the tone.

Cornyns view on a possible human role in climate change is insinuated for a Republican and doubly so for a Republican from oil country. Which is adamantly not to say he favors emissions regulations.

I am not one that denies that human beings have an impact on the environment, Cornyn said in a phone call with Texas reporters in May. But I am sure not willing to put the federal government in charge of trying to micromanage the environment for the United States of America, nor for us to drive up the price of energy for people on fixed income, like seniors and people of modest means, by putting restrictions in place that other nations are not.

Even broaching the topic with some political conservatives can be challenging, said U.S. Rep. John Curtis, a Republican from Utah.

He compared the reflexive reaction many conservatives have when it comes to climate change to how Democrats feel when they hear about former President Donald Trumps U.S.-Mexico border wall.

Their chest tightens, he told the Thomson Reuters Foundation.

I think climate has been like that for Republicans, right? Just the word climate has all these agendas, the Green New Deal and Al Gore kind of associated with it, and I think thats turned them off.

Last week, Curtis launched the Conservative Climate Caucus – a group in Congress that already boasts a roster of more than 50 Republicans to try to educate colleagues and brainstorm ideas to deal with climate change.

Curtis said he envisions field trips to look at electric vehicle manufacturing or forest fire damage, a big worry in the western United States right now.

But hes not keen on virtually eliminating use of fossil fuels – something scientists say is crucial to limiting dangerous warming – instead preferring a switch to cleaner ones.

I think theres a role for fossil fuels, he said. If were able to export U.S. natural gas to China and it displaced coal, that would have dramatic impacts on worldwide carbon emissions.

Curtis acknowledged that among a certain set of conservative voters, winning heart and minds on climate change will take much more work.

On the other policies included in the survey, majorities of Democrats and of Republicans do not agree. Minorities of Republicans and majorities of Democrats favor carbon pricing policies and increased gasoline taxes. In general, majorities of Democrats and minorities of Republicans believe that federal stimulus packages should include provisions to invest in the development of new technologies and in maintenance to reduce future emissions.

They need to be ensuring that the United States makes the transition away from fossil fuels in a way that is fiscally viable for the American people.;

In line with Bidens climate plan, Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards, a moderate Democrat,;signed an executive order in November 2020 creating the Climate Initiatives Task Force, aimed at making the state carbon neutral by 2050. But Smith called the task force;money down the;drain. He said the task force is funding research already conducted by other administrations and a;performative action.;

Its very much the case of John Bel kicking the can down the road. The task force is saying theyre going to show us the results in five years, Smith said. But itll be too late at that point.;

Blunt has acknowledged that climate change exists and said we have a social responsibility to help the environment. He also has said, however, that the human role in climate change is unclear. understands that any energy policy aimed at reducing greenhouse gases should be carefully considered in the context of Americas already fragile economy, a spokesman for Blunt told the Springfield News-Leader in 2011. The worst outcome is that we pass policies so onerous that we drive jobs overseas to countries where they dont care as much about what comes out of their smokestacks as we do.

Why Republicans Still Dont Care About Climate Change

Mary Nichols has been part of the struggle to prevent catastrophic climate change for about as long as anyone in American life. For years, shes directed Californias pathbreaking efforts to reduce carbon emissions as the chair of the California Air Resources Boarda position she held first in the 1970s before taking it up again in 2007. Nichols has also served at the federal level, working as the chief regulator for air pollution at the Environmental Protection Agency under President Bill Clinton in the 1990s. And yet even Nichols has never seen anything that crystallizes the dangers of climate change more clearly than the historic outbreak of wildfires scorching California and other western states this year.

Fundamental Beliefs And Attitudes

For 14 out of 21 survey questions posed to American respondents about fundamental beliefs and attitudes regarding global warming, majorities of Democrats and Republicans alike hold green opinions in 2020.

For example, 94% of Democrats believe global warming has been happening, as do 67% of Republicans. 94% of Democrats and 56% of Republicans think warming will continue in the future if nothing is done to address it. 94% of Democrats and 69% of Republicans believe that if warming has been happening, human actions have been responsible for causing it.

Majorities of Democrats and of Republicans also agree about the likely effects of global warming98% of Democrats and 54% of Republicans believe global warming will be a very or somewhat serious problem for the US if nothing is done to address it. Some 97% of Democrats and 60% of Republicans believe that global warming will be a very or somewhat serious problem for the world if nothing is done to address it.

However, the partisans diverge on whether specific temperature changes have been or will be bad. Whereas 88% of Democrats believe that the warming that has happened over the past 100 years was bad, only 40% of Republicans believe that. And whereas 84% of Democrats believe that a 5-degree Fahrenheit increase in world temperature over the next 75 years would be bad, only 50% of Republicans agree.

A majority of Republicans now admit that climate change does exist, according to a new poll.

The Monmouth University survey revealing a growing number of Americans acknowledge climate change is happening, and that most of them believe its becoming an issue.

Almost two-thirds of Republicans, 64 per cent, believe global warming exists. That number has increased from 49 per cent three years ago.

Those who have criticized climate change are all over the place. You have those who say were going through global cooling, or that theres nothing going on different with the weather at all, or that any changes occurring are natural, not human-made, or its the fault of other countries.

With such an inconsistent message, its no wonder that the AP-NORC poll showed only nine percent of Americans are climate deniers. While 19 percent say they are unsure, the remaining 70+ percent not only recognize the climate is changing, but most of them also trust the science that says human activity is contributing greatly to this. If climate change becomes an election issue in 2020, it doesnt look so good for the GOP and Donald Trump.

Its All In A Name: Global Warming Versus Climate Change

More people believe in climate change than in global warming, according to a University of Michigan study published in Public Opinion Quarterly. Wording matters, says Jonathon Schuldt, a Ph.D. candidate in the U-M Department of Psychology who co-authored the study with ISR researchers Sara Konrath and Norbert Schwarz.

For the research, Schuldt, Konrath and Schwarz conducted a question wording experiment in the American Life Panel, an online survey conducted by RAND, with a national sample of 2,267 U.S. adults. Participants were asked to report their level of certainty about whether global climate change is a serious problem.

The good news is that Americans may not be as polarized on the issue as previously thought. The extent of the partisan divide on this issue depends heavily on question wording, says Schwarz.. When the issue is framed as global warming, the partisan divide is nearly 42 percentage points. But when the frame is climate change, the partisan divide drops to about 26 percentage points.

According to new analysis from the Center for American Progress, there are still 139 elected officials in the 117th Congress, including 109 representatives and 30 senators, who refuse to acknowledge the scientific evidence of human-caused climate change. All 139 of these climate-denying elected officials have made recent statements casting doubt on the clear, established scientific consensus that the world is warmingand that human activity is to blame. These same 139 climate-denying members have received more than $61 million in lifetime contributions from the coal, oil, and gas industries.

Democrats And Republicans Divided On Climate Change

How serious an issue is climate change and what should be done about it? It is not surprising that Democrats and Republicans have different views about these questions as they do about so many issues today. But what is significant now is the depth of their differences on climate change and how much those differences have grown over time. In the April issue of AEIs Political Report, we examined partisans views in recent polls and trends.

When Quinnipiac University asked registered voters in December 2018 about the extreme weather events over the past few years, 90% of Democrats and 24% of Republicans said they were related to climate change. In a similar question asked by Economist/YouGov pollstersin March 2019, 76% of Democrats said the severity of recent weather events were the result of climate change, compared to 17% of Republicans. Seventy-four percent of Republicans said these kinds of events just happen from time to time.

And what about the Green New Deal? In the limited number of polls that we have at this point, most Americans are not very familiar with it. Among those who have an opinion, Democrats are more positive than Republicans.

Of the 24 policies, 17 are favored by a majority of Independents, including the 7 that are favored by majorities of Republicans and of Democrats.

Of the seven policies favored by a minority of Independents, two are also favored by minorities of Republicans and Democrats: tax breaks to encourage nuclear power plant construction and increased consumer taxes on electricity.

Four of the other five policies favored by a minority of Independents are: increasing consumer taxes on gasoline, helping companies prevent leaks and pollution from pipelines, spending stimulus money to advance manufacturing of all-electric cars, and installing charging stations for electric cars. For the proposed policy of helping companies make batteries that are smaller and last longer, 50% of Independents were in favor.

For two policies more Republicans than Democrats are in favor, by margins of 13 and 11 percentage points respectively.

Of the remaining 22 policies, more Democrats than Republicans are in favor by margins ranging from 18 to 58 percentage points and averaging 37 percentage points.

In sum, Democrats are generally more supportive of emissions reduction policies than Republicans, and Independents are generally in between those two groups. And although majorities of both Republicans and Democrats agree with one another about some policies, they disagreed on most.

I also see this as us reclaiming our heritage, she said.

But with two-thirds of Americans indicating that the government should do more on climate change a stance that Butcher observed is especially true among young people” she said Republicans need to be talking about these issues and involving the younger generation in the discussions.

The GOP has notoriously struggled with young people, she added.

The party is split and the recent mass power outages during a severe storm in Texas may drive a deeper wedge into the party as Republican lawmakers were seen as having failed their constituents. In Florida, the GOP recently released a $100M+ plan to address flooding caused by climate change, although nothing to halt or reverse climate change itself. Recent polls show the fissure among Republican voters is generational and there is a substantial chasm between Democrat and Republican voters when it comes to understanding the causes and risks of climate change.

No matter what direction the political winds blow, the planet continues on its dangerous path of warming as humans continue to burn fossil fuels at an alarming rate. you just lay in tommys arms for while.

“shit tommy im sorry i shouldnt have said anything” you jumped up awkwardly, “lets just forget about it ok its stupid” you began to walk away , tommy grabbed your arm, he just looked you in the eyes a nodded.

Curly approached and tommy let go, “curly we will be back to check on the black mare and get that stable ready for that new one” tommy ordered. “new one, theres a new horse coming�� you smiled, “if all goes well with this meeting today then yes there will be”, “tommy can i come and check the horse out sorry i shouldnt have asked” you hummed worried you had over stepped your mark, “its a business dealing ye so do as your told and only that right”. “yes sure as you wish” you smiled.

Few hours later you were sitting in tommys car waiting for tommy to round the boys up.

“ali what are you doing in tommys car” micheal looking confused, “dont look so confused my dear michael im coming with” you smiled, “with the boys to the meeting but why these meetings can be dangerous ali”, “oh relax ill be fine it will give us time to catch up” you smiled, “ali im serious” clenching his jaw , “ive no doubt you that you are” we smiled “come on” ....

.before you could finish you saw the boys heading towards the car.

“tommy why is ali coming” michael spat. “for the horse michael thats all” “for the horse sure” arthur said amused with himself, “i heard he is arranging a marriage to one of the lee boys for you” john laughed. “the big bald fella with the four kids arthur joined he as four kids so least you know he can perform” arthur spat. michael looked more worried then you did “tommy there joking right” michael laughed. no not atal its the only way i could get the horse she be well looked after michael dont be worried, tommy said serious.

michael looking at you. “i always wanted kids you joined do love a bald man”you laughed. “its a joke michael before you have a heart attack” you laughed, “it is a joke tommy”you looked at him , “of course what kind of a man do you think i am” he hummed “you had no problem marrying me off” john smiled was only trying to get rid of you arthur laughed.

we pulled up to a huge camp site horses and caravans were everywhere , the smell of the countryside sparked something inside you.

“theres your husband ali” john laughed pointing to a bald fat man.

oh yum you laughed.

“enough boys time for business” tommys face changed.

“ali you stay in the car till your told otherwise ok”? you just nodded.

A small man came towards the car “ah boys” he began you couldnt hear alot you just watched there moves and made up your own story.

they spoke for what felt like forever until tommy turned towards the car a used his finger to signal you to come over.

you didnt know why but you felt nervous but you would be damned if you showed it to anyone.

you stopped beside michael and smiled at tommy.

“whats a women know about horses” the man spat at tommy, “alot more than you would think now lets get on with it” tommy spat back, a beautiful grey horse came around from behind the van, shes a beauty tommy” the man smiled. “ill decide that myself” tommy smiled, ali your up tommy hummed.

“hey girl easy” you hummed, you started at the hoofs and checked every inch of that horse from tail to mane leaving notting unseen, “she is in good condition , teeth look good” , “hoofs need some oil and new shoes there fairly old other than that notting some attention wont fix” you smiled, “michael give me a leg up you ordered “you jumped on the horse ,”easy girl “ you did what you needed, your legs hit the ground.. “nice strong horse” you hummed,”up to you” tommy you smiled , you shook the lee mans hand “its ailson robertson by the way ill be in the car boys”you winked walking away. you heard the boys smirk as you left.

you could still see the boys discussion with the lee family , you could see tommy getting angry and the boys all started to step towards the other boys right in front of you a fight broke out blood and screams came from everywhere, shit you hid down on the back sit the boys stopped, the main lee brother and tommy came close to each other something was said and the boys came towards the car.

“what the hell was that about jesus” you spat, no one spoke at all.

after a long quiet drive home the boys walked into the shelby home.

“what the fuck happened tommy”?polly looking cross, “just a disagreement is all” “are you trying to start a fucking war tommy eh cause thats whats gonna happen if you keep doing this you know that”polly spat sit down all of you, “GIRLS”polly shouted lets get this idiots cleaned up, you ok michael you smiled , “lovely thanks” he giggled, “its gonna hurt”you said wiping his face, “ugh” he tensed,

the walk to the office was just like the old days you and michael linked laughing about something that wasnt funny but to you both it was and thats what mattered.

you and michael walked ahead of the boys linked and laughing as always, you didnt realise that when you walked into the garrsion the whole pub went quiet,“whats everyone starring at “ you asked michael, “you” he smiled.

you, ada and polly where dancing on a table laughing about everything , more drink arthur shouted ,”thank you arthur your a dear” you kissed his cheek, you had felt tommy’s eyes following you all night , you sat down beside tommy crossing your legs so your legs would be on show, you not dance tommy you laughed not drunk enough he hummed, “you look beautiful tonight ali” he whispered in your ear the feeling off tommys breath againt your ear made you jump.

Took you awhile to get into your night clothes the room was spinning to much you fell over laughing and there was a knock on your door.

“come in” you said not able to get off the bed, “you ok i heard a bang” tommy smiled , “im fine just feel over room moving to fast” you laughed , here let me help you into bed he pulled you up the bed, “thank you tommy” you smiled” i dont drink often” you giggled “i see that” he smiled,

you could see him staring at your scars just under your hips, “stop dont look at them” you covered them feeling embrassed , “how did you get them ali” he looked angry , “there from my childhood” you sang “my wonderful father and his riding whip” you looked away “anytime i would say no” you said. “fuck ali your save now noone will ever touch you again you hear now go to sleep” , he stood up placing a kiss on your forehead “goodnight beautiful” , your snores filled the room.

Wall Streeters may love Bloomberg, but most don’t think he’s got a real shot

Bloomberg said himself in the past that he viewed the Democratic field as too crowded to make it possible to win. Now he’s evidently decided that former Vice President Joe Biden is too weak and fading, and that none of the other challengers have what it takes to wrest the nomination from progressive Sens. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.).

“This is for real. It is now or never, and he chose now,” a person close to Bloomberg said Thursday night as news of Bloomberg filing for the Alabama primary broke. “A combination of Biden sinking and Warren rising motivated him to take a shot. At heart, he is a patriot and is really concerned with where the country is heading and what happens if the Democrats don’t have a strong nominee.”

This person added: “Warren as the nominee equals four more years. All the polling supports that. So he is going to make a run at it and the chips will settle where they may. He has the resume and the checkbook and is willing to run.”

There is no question about the checkbook.

Bloomberg has a net worth of about $53 billion and longtime operative friends like Kevin Sheekey to help him get into debates, get on ballots and come up with some kind of legitimate plan.

But his generally moderate economic views coupled with his deep lifetime ties to Wall Street’s top banks and senior executives makes him an easy target for candidates like Warren who on Thursday night dismissed his candidacy. “I think what we ought to do is, we ought to be building a grassroots movement to make real change in this country,” she said. “I don’t think that democracy should be about people coming in and buying elections.”

One senior Wall Street executive who is generally supportive of Biden’s candidacy — but worried, as many are, about the former vice president’s fundraising numbers and poll standing in early states — suggested they thought a Bloomberg win wasn’t impossible, but still highly unlikely.

“It was smart of him to wait and not look overeager [and] taking advantage of not having to raise money,” this executive said. “At this point, his natural constituency — moderate Dems, suburban families — are practically begging for someone to support. And the serious work he’s done on climate and guns will help with a lot of folks across the country.”

But this person added: “It’s still a heavy lift. Natural target for the socialist lefties, late to organize in early primary states, no strong base with African American voters, no natural constituency outside the coasts. No clear path. But the New York finance crowd will be delighted to have someone they can support wholeheartedly. Probably hurts Mayor Pete [Buttigieg], who was becoming their darling.”

A Bloomberg run, while perhaps boosting Warren and Sanders and diluting support for Biden, could in fact be a blow to Buttigieg, who was crafting a successful rise as a socially progressive voice who is also concerned about not going all-in for hugely expensive programs like “Medicare for All” and the Green New Deal.

He’s attracted lots of money and attention from younger people in the finance community, helping build a war chest that stood at $23.4 million at the end of the third quarter, just behind Warren and Sanders and well above Biden’s $8.9 million.

Buttigieg actually learned of Bloomberg’s apparent entry into the race while leaving one of four New York City fundraisers on Thursday, according to a person familiar with the event. He did not have any big reaction to the news.

Buttigieg backers think he will continue to raise money with relative ease even with Bloomberg in the race and will continue to build out large organizations beyond Iowa and New Hampshire in states like Nevada, South Carolina and California.

And they think once Bloomberg gets in, the former mayor, who famously does not love retail campaigning, will find it enormously hard to get any real traction.

Rival campaigns are already compiling opposition research documents on Bloomberg to deploy if the former New York City major actually fully jumps into the race. They expect to describe him as a candidate of the top 1 percent who registered very low in early surveys that included him as a possible candidate. They will bring up problems on “stop and frisk” that could be major stumbling blocks with African Americans who make up a key Democratic primary constituency. They will bring up issues with women suing Bloomberg LP over discriminating against pregnant employees. And that’s just the beginning.

And the senior Wall Street executive backing Biden — the one who said he’d be “shocked“ if Bloomberg were in the race in 45 days — said the former mayor is dramatically overstating how weak the former VP really is. “He’s been getting beat up for weeks and weeks, and yes, his debates are clumsy. But he’s still at 30 percent nationally. People like Joe Biden and they trust him. And frankly, I think the Warren people would have paid Bloomberg to get in the race. It’s the best thing that could happen to them.”

Trumps Politics Are Costing Him Customers

If Donald Trump is headed back to his Manhattan offices in two months, and not the White House, hell be returning to a brand thats been dramatically reshaped by his two-year political adventure. Maybe not in a good way.

The Trump brand used to be one-dimensionally focused on success. It was simple and relevant to a large audience, said Allen Adamson, founder of consulting company BrandSimple. Now its more complex and polarizing and relevant to a smaller market segment. Thats because theres a mismatch between Trumps voter base and his target consumers, branding experts like Adamson say. And the data trickling in from the tourism and real-estate industries backs them up.

A walk around the lobby of the Trump Tower on Fifth Avenue in New York suggests one reason why. On a recent afternoon, a Tennessee family in matching khaki shorts browsed through merchandise in the buildings store; a young, tattooed couple with backpacks ate ice cream in the food court. The crowd was there to get photos taken in front of the gold-lettered Trump name above the entrance; they didnt appear to be in the market for $500-a-night hotel rooms.

Wider Problem

And thats the wider problem for Trump: A large chunk of his business depends on filling those rooms, charging golfers thousands of dollars a year in membership fees and selling multimillion dollar apartments. That means appealing to consumers who are relatively wealthy, well educated and clustered in the major cities — precisely the groups that Trumps presidential campaign has tended to alienate.

Meanwhile, the Americans who flock to the tycoons rallies are more likely to be over 55, without a college education and from rural areas. They might buy Make America Great Again hats from Trump, but not too much else. Their loyalty would be much better news for Trumps business if he were selling life insurance or lawn mowers, or running a conservative media company (which some have speculated he might if he doesnt win the presidency).

Among people making more than $150,000 — the ones who can best afford his products — Trumps consumer appeal is fraying. Back in 2010, only 5 percent of brands were perceived by those Americans as being more glamorous than his, according to BAV Consulting. When the survey was repeated at the end of last year, Trump had fallen about a third of the way down the league table.

Online Poll

Among likely voters with household incomes of more than $100,000, 36 percent view Trump favorably compared with 42 percent for his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton and 51 percent for President Barack Obama, according to the latest Purple Slice online poll for Bloomberg Politics.

The news gets worse: Trump the politician has unfavorable ratings that are consistently high among women, who make the bulk of spending decisions in households, and also among millennials, the largest demographic of shoppers, wholl soon be entering their peak consuming years.

That helps explain why Trumps hotels, casinos and golf courses in the U.S. saw their market share of visits fall by 14 percent in July from a year earlier, according to Foursquare, which tracks the locations of 50 million users. The hardest-hit venues were in New York and Chicago, while the drop-off was steepest among women in Democrat-leaning states. Travel website Hipmunk, which caters to younger travelers, said Trumps share of hotel bookings on its site has fallen 58 percent in a year.

Limited Control

Trump isnt the only one who suffers when his brand takes a hit. Some properties with the Trump name on them arent owned or operated by Trump, but rather just license his name. Others, he only owns a portion of — including Trump Tower, where he controls 30 of the buildings 58 stories.

The Trump Organization said in a statement that the data from Hipmunk and Foursquare had been manipulated to appear meaningful and that the groups hotels are exceeding their goals while golf-club membership is at an all-time high. The Trump Organization doesnt disclose its revenue or profits because its a privately held company.

Continued Growth

We continue to outperform our competitors, and we are very enthusiastic about the future and our continued growth, said Eric Danziger, chief executive officer of Trump Hotels.

Even while campaigning for the worlds most powerful office, Trump has missed few opportunities to express his own enthusiasm for his brand, and events have been held at his hotels and golf courses. The media exposure is hard to put a value on, but the recent opening of Trumps Washington hotel, for example, was covered much more widely than it would have been if he hadnt been running for president. And next week, the former reality-television star will get a chance to put both his political platform and his personal brand on display at the first debate with Clinton, which is expected to draw one of historys largest audiences.

It may also prove one of the more divisive events in recent American politics, though. Trump has long been a polarizing figure — one thing that has been consistent is him being controversial — and in the past that has fed into his brands value, according to Henry Schafer, executive vice president at the Q Scores Company, which tracks perceptions of brands and celebrities. There are people the public loves to hate but will also buy from if the products right, Schafer said, citing the Kardashians as another example.

Ideals, Values

But the dynamics changed when Trumps name became associated with ideals and values rather than just his personality, he said.

The difference now is the environment and the landscape the perception is being made in, Schafer said. Hes in a much more serious position than he was as a TV star. He isnt the host of Celebrity Apprentice anymore.

In other words: Its one thing if you dont like Trump because he fired Meatloaf on his TV show or you think the Miss USA pageant is tacky; its another if you worry he could deport millions of people from the U.S., or start a nuclear war.

Trumps Manhattan real-estate holdings are probably less vulnerable to the public mood: Theyll stand or fall on old-fashioned market criteria.

Canny Brokers

New Yorkers arent swayed that easily by a name, said Leonard Steinberg, president of real-estate technology company Compass. There are another 100 things that matter more than the brand name. Plus, he said, brokers are canny enough to skip the Trump reference and use a street address instead if they think itll play better with clients. Not all Trumps buildings have his name emblazoned all over them.

Even there, though, the data suggest a mixed picture. The resale value of apartments in Trump-branded New York buildings rose 4.4 percent in the 12 months through June, beating the market, according to real-estate site StreetEasy.com. But StreetEasy also found that Trump buildings, which used to sell faster than competitors, have lost that edge.

If Trump wins in November, of course, hell have limited time to fret about such matters. In that event, the candidate said last week, the next generation of Trumps will take over the business.

Theres plenty of upside for Trump Inc. in that scenario, according to brand consultant Laura Ries, founder of Ries & Ries.

Huge Asset

Those kids are a huge asset, Ries said. They seem reasonable, smart, good looking and well spoken. They are very important to the future of the brand.

And under the alternative scenario of a Clinton presidency — still the likeliest one, according to pollsters and oddsmakers — Ries says that even if the Trump brand has taken a hit, the damage wont last forever.

If he loses, he makes the most of the media attention and moves on, she said. Five years from now, a lot of that is going to be forgotten, and what will be remembered is that crazy rich guy who ran for president.

A morning with ‘adorable deplorables’: why Trump supporters are optimistic

On a bus bound for the inauguration in Washington, backers of the new president explain their views: He isnt putting people down

On the bus, in the morning darkness, Steph and Brandi put on their makeup, using a phone as a mirror.

Stephanie Friess and Brandi Tillman have been friends since high school, and now they were on their way from Wilmington, Delaware, to Washington to celebrate the man who had given them a brand new country.

On election night, Steph stayed up past 3am to see Trumps victory being announced. The next morning, remembering the night before while driving her car, the 24-year-old felt jubilant to be living in Trumps America.

The two women made matching Trump caps blue and black decorated with sequins and the slogan Adorable Deplorable in honor of the inauguration. Hillary Clinton had tried to attack Trump for lifting up the most deplorable among his followers: the racist, sexist, homophobic, xenophobic, Islamaphobic you name it. Trumps followers had proudly reclaimed the term, and now Brandi and Steph bedazzled it.

On Saturday, hundreds of thousands of women will be marching in Washington in protest of Trumps presidency in a demonstration called the Womens March.

While large majorities of black and Latina women voted against Trump and for Hillary Clinton, white women didnt. Brandi and Steph are part of the majority: early exit polls showed that 53% of white women voted for Trump, including 45% of women with college degrees.

The two women, both college students, were not entirely convinced by Donald Trump at first. But, Steph said, he definitely grows on you. Both friends say they appreciate Trumps bluntness, his toughness, his lack of greed, and what seems like a genuine love for America.

He wants everyone to be successful, Stephanie said. He isnt putting people down.

Brandi liked Mitt Romney, but he wasnt strong enough, the 25-year-old said. He wasnt empowering us enough. He plays that innocent politician role that all politicians play. Trump doesnt do that.

A cake cant be racist

On the bus to Washington, many of the womens fellow white Trump supporters expressed frustration at constantly being labeled racist. It was a term, some argued, that liberals just threw around whenever they were losing an argument.

A local bakery in Pennsylvania had just produced tiny hat-shaped Make America Great Again cakes in honor of the inauguration, and a short post about the themed cakes on Facebook had sparked a long debate, with some commenters labelling the bakery racist, or saying they would not longer patronize it. Why not a grab em by the p*ssy cake? one commenter asked. Or a deport all immigrants cake?

The bus supporters were indignant. They had won. It was supposed to be a day to celebrate. And yet the news was full of protests and threatened disruption, and even a bakery making an inauguration dessert had somehow become divisive.

A cake cant be racist, Dave DeFries, a longtime Trump supporter from Delaware County, Pennsylvania, said in exasperation.

In the seat behind Brandi and Steph, Laura Ann, 34, who asked that her last name not be used, had bought two of them. She sliced them and handed them out. The cake was moist, the frosting tasting faintly of marshmallow.

Laura Ann had voted for Obama twice. She worked in healthcare, and had wanted the president to fix the health insurance system. He had failed. She was still kicking herself for voting for him. As a gun owner with several AR-15 rifles she found them light and easy to handle as a female shooter she had also been frustrated by the constant attacks on the so-called assault rifle.

Id really like to see [Trump] help the inner cities more, she said. She thought Ben Carson, who grew up in Detroit and went on to become a surgeon, would be a great force in helping urban America.

Eileen, at 46, had cast her first ballot ever for Trump. I want the jobs to come back to America, she said. Her brother, a systems analyst, had lost his job to workers in India and had been forced to personally train the Indian worker who was taking his place, under threat of losing his pension.

Eileen also felt Obama had failed to bring insurance companies in line to bring healthcare costs down. Worried that her high school friends who voted for Clinton would attack her, she asked not to publish her last name.

Many of the supporters said they had never been politically involved before Trump ran for president. Several had voted for Obama at least once. Some of the new activists said they were amazed by the energy of Trumps movement. It doesnt seem like a political environment, Dave Ennis said. It seems like were going to a football game.

Some said that their friends or family were worried that something might happen on inauguration day, that the protests might make DC dangerous. One man mentioned that he had seen a video produced by the conservative provocateur James OKeefe about activists discussing a plan to throw acid on Trump supporters.

Its like, I get it, I get it, slavery was bad. I didnt do it

At the back of the bus, Dave sat opposite his wife and 16 year-old son, Brian, who he called a liberal snowflake. The two of them argued constantly, the father said, especially about Black Lives Matter.

Brian said he believed that the Black Lives Matter protesters and the Boston Tea Party rebels were identical except for their race. Protesters had to be loud to make themselves noticed. His father was more skeptical that black Americans were being unfairly victimized. His own interactions with the police when he was younger had taught him that when people chose a certain lifestyle, the police would target them and there was nothing wrong with that.

Brandi and Steph said that felt that racism toward black Americans had been given a disproportionate platform compared with other kinds of racism. They disapproved of Obama supporting the Black Lives Matter movement, which they saw as racist.

Why is it Black Lives Matter, not all lives? Stephanie asked.

I just dont think most cops are out to get black people, Brandi replied.

The media blows a lot of this out of proportion, Stephanie said.

I didnt think its bad that we had a first black president. Thats not bad. Thats great, Brandi opined. But Obama should not have been elected to a second term. I think his color had a lot to do with that.

In school, Brandi said, some black girls had bullied her, and when she complained, my teacher told me to grow a thicker skin.

Asked about the systemic inequality black Americans face in the criminal justice system, or in education Brandi said that, because shes been living in Delaware, a relatively liberal state, maybe I havent seen that as much.

I, like, see the opposite. Black people get free college, she said. My moms a single mom. Im not white privileged, and Im sick of being told I am.

Both said that felt they had grown up and gone to school while constantly being told things trying to make us feel bad for being white. Slavery was a topic of discussion again and again, the schools focused on black authors, its always black history month.

Its like, I get it, I get it, slavery was bad. I didnt do it, Brandi said.

Brandi said she felt bad for her other minority friends Hispanic, Asian, Indian who also faced racism, but seemed to get less attention. Her Indian American friends faced job discrimination, she believed, by people who might not think they fit the look they wanted, or who bought into the stereotype that they might be terrorists.

Im a little bit worried about the tweeting

Both friends also had some concerns about Trump. Stephanie didnt believe for a long time that Trump could really pull off a presidential demeanor. Thats why she thought Clinton would win. Brandi said she did not believe new environmental protections should be rolled back, and her stepmother had serious concerns about Trumps pick for education secretary, Betsy DeVos, a billionaire philanthropist and school choice advocate whose understanding of basic educational concepts and laws came under question during her confirmation hearing. I know teachers arent very happy about that, she said.

But for the most part, the two friends were optimistic that Trump would tackle the economy, create jobs, address cyber-attacks, and make America stronger. Brandi, who was waitressing as she went through college, said: Id like to see more money. Id like to see more tips.

Neither of the friends had been concerned about his comments about grabbing women by the pussy. That was 10 years ago, and people change, Brandi said.

Brandi said if a famous billionaire had tried to grope her, she would have sued immediately, not stayed silent for years until the man ran for president. Damn straight, if someone gropes me, I would want to sue, she said. Steph disagreed. She probably would have stayed quiet, she said.
