i really appreciate the fact that dan and phil tried to host a few shows in asia, but unfortunately was unsuccessful because in order to perform in their bigger demographic they would've had to cut out a majority of their show. i only saw the tweets after everything else happened but i do get why some people got offended and reached out for a clear explanation (which was literally him recalling a probably discriminatory and definitely hurtful experience).
i live in the philippines where it is arguably better to live in as a queer person compared to other neighbouring countries, i would say thailand is the best place. but even so, the fact that they were given the choice of either being 100% censored or just not performing at all, i can see that happening in my country. even if we're accepted here as comedic figures, we don't have rights as queer people. the tweets that are like "debunking homophobic claims about this country" just because we have milestones doesn't make our government and companies completely absolved from homophobia.
not to mention from a business perspective where they probably wouldn't choose to perform in my country where they would spend more than they can sell. this is just another case of dan being too blunt and people misunderstanding, for good reason, im just glad he came up and gave a better statement. the people who went up and fought other people who said his jokey tweet was xenophobic in a way... im looking at yall with disdain. understand the fact that what he said was offensive.
just put up a 10% discount for us on your merch phings i love yall 😔☝️
#tldr stop arguing with phans of color because we're already alienated in this space as it is#we dont need white people coming for us cs we said smth is offensive man fuck yall#also? i dont appreciate white people criticizing our governments#unless you offer a completely clear take on it im not listening to you#its like being mansplained but by fucking colonizers#dan and phil

honestly think saying wicked is a ‘story about friendship’ does a disservice to the show when at its crux its a story about discrimination and corrupt governments
#me when friendship is being oppressed by a government and my bestie joining the side of the oppressors#but its okay bc she apologised at the end and they sing a sweet song !!#also why i think its pivotal that fiyero is a poc bc of the way hes treated by everyone in act 2#they dont really like him and he clearly doesnt belong in this world#like the way he tells the guards go let elphaba go and they dont listen to him until glinda gives the greenlight#he always knew if given the chance they would attack him too and in this scene he gave them a reason and they did !#and he got hung up in a field#also makes the moment come off as less white savioury and gives fiyero some more character depth as you see his internal conflict#sure ig act 1 is about friendship with a corruption subplot but in act 2 the corruption is the main story and the friendship is the subplot

another thing that i just noticed is that the dwarves have now had done to them by the elves what we’d thought the elves had done to them by humans, at least before inquisition. cut down in their peak and permanently ruined, left to scrabble for the broken pieces of their history
not to say it’s an inherently bad choice because oppression isn’t that straightforward, but it sure was an interesting choice to shift the “they destroyed our way of life and fractured our society and we ARE allowing ourselves to feel angry about it and reclaim our history and maybe use that to rebuild what we once had” narrative from the elves to the dwarves. like if that’s the story you really wanted to tell, you could have also given it to like. bellara
#the fall of the titans feels very similar to what we had originally thought the sacking of arlathan was#so there may be more there to uncover. and i dont lnow that i trust them like that again lmao#and it feels especially. i dont want to say insidious but tone deaf at the very least#to shift that from elves (long history of racial coding and marginalization in this series) to dwarves (much less of that)#AND it being told from harding’s POV when she’s not really part of any dwarven society and never has been#feels very much like. white person whose family has been in north america for a few generations reading about european traditions and#trying to incorporate them into their life. anger over how their ancestors were coerced into abandoning their culture to be considered white#so youre left with nothing and are trying to reclaim That. listen it’s also a valid desire i guess but very telling that youre choosing#to tell this story while actively destroying the chance to tell the other kind of story#and also there’s something about how culture doesnt exist in a vacuum#i know some europeans accuse americans of cosplaying their culture and while on one hand that might just be refusal to acknowledge that#culture isnt a monolith and might evolve differently somewhere else. there is a bit of truth to it imo#anyway what im saying is this is absolutely what underground dwarves think of harding#we dont know enough about stalgard#kinda got the impression he was just a guy who lived there rather than part of kal sharok’s government or shaperate#he’s one guy and his opinion doesnt reflect kal sharok. i dont think orzammar is necessarily wrong for not cooperating#they are famously a very closed society and also this is someone from outside that trying to instruct them on their shit#same as when solas tried to ‘’’reason’’’ with the dalish#mine#datv spoilers

hmmm on the topic of RedNote, I feel like people are forgetting that the US isn't the only country with an authoritarian government. Like, I'm sure a lot of things about living in China are better than the US, however I saw a screenshot where a Chinese RedNote user was claiming child labour doesn't happen, and an American user just being like "ok cool thanks for the info!". China also has an authoritarian and oppressive government - haven't you heard about the Uyghur genocide, Hong Kong, Taiwan, to name just a few instances? It's easy to look these things up online. Seems Americans are eager to overcompensate for their authoritarian capitalist government propaganda by falling hookline and sinker for authoritarian communist gov. propaganda. China also controls its media, not just the USA.
(This isn't anti-communist of me - I am a communist, just not authoritarian. Half my family was born in the USSR so I'm simply aware of the dangers of authoritarianism. In fact this post isn't even that relevant to communism/capitalism, more just that y'all need to be more aware of all types of propaganda.)
#rednote#politics#us politics#this is a sign im too aware of us politics i need to stopppp#usa#idk y it took so many americans to go onto rednote to actually listen to people saying “hey the rest of the world doesnt live in like this”#edit: turned off reblogs as i dont want this getting out of hand.#also there are lots of good things about rednote like the cultural exchange is really sweet i just thing y'all need to know#that the chinese government (and tbh every government) also has its own interests and disinforms its citizens

Thinking thoughts about those from Cuivienen and how they later treated the Valar, especially after Cuivienen was destroyed.
I imagine a foundation of sorrow and a layer of betrayal and pettiness. They had promised safety. And how did it turn out? Kin of Tata and Tatie their first leaders, slain in Valinor by the Dark Hunter from which the Valar promised protection in Valinor.
And then, the War of Wrath comes and with it the destruction of Cuivienen.
If any of those were re-embodied in Aman, I wonder if they make it a point to always turn their back to Valar and Maiar. I wonder if they only speak in the tongue they had first devised all those millennia ago and spoke in Cuivienen before time and different kindreds changed the tongue, not Sindarin or Quenya from the Great Journey's time or later. I wonder if they sing songs in their ancient tongue, songs about the beauty and unsullied health of Cuivienen every time any of the Ainur are near.
I wonder if the Valar feel any shame when those who they once looked upon in wonder and love gaze back at them with indifference or disgust.
#i am so normal about the elves of cuivienen feeling the betrayal worse than anyone in aman including feanor and co#they PROMISED safety from Morgoth and orcs. they PROMISED beautiful lands without sorrow. they PROMISED all that and down the line#decided Mogoth had played pretend well enough to warrant him probation during which he immediately killed again#returns to the east and sullies what beauty had been left. and then even from afar he manages to hurt those from cuivienen with the WoW#dont get me wrong i think the cuivienen elves knew there had to be war against Morgoth for him to be defeated. but the fact that the valar#decided not to only abandon those of beleriand for over 5 centuries before that AND once the war is won also abandon#those of cuivienen to watch their beloved lands drown without as much a warning must sting.#i want there to be a concious decision of 'you abandoned your promise to us twice why should we ever trust you again even in your own lands'#a 'you promised our people who folowed you safety. you didnt deliver. you promised us freedom from morgoth. you didnt deliver. in fact your#inadequacy and decision to let him loose made everything worse for us in the east. why should we ever listen to anything you say'#and thus a concious effort to shed association with Aman as the Valar govern it. they cant leave. the way is shut. but they can establish#a sticking to their own tongue and traditions without the interference of the Ainur. they've done enough. not enough and yet quite enough.#the avari are welcome should some be reborn.#i never know if i want those of cuivienen to be reborn in aman or fade into unexistence entirely both have merit and sexy hcs#but if any were reborn i think they would get along fairly alright with the exiles. kinslaying exiles? 50/50 depending on repentance#but anyone who does not believe the valar's words and respects their decision to not ever be associated with them is welcomed neutral-warmly#they teach them songs about cuivienen. the sweet waters. beautiful meadows. the birdsong that sounds extra cheerful. fish in abundance#and in turn they get taught songs about beleriand. bewitched forests. victorious battles. wild rivers. frothy shores.#it is seen as an honour to be taught a song about Cuivienen by the people who sat by its shores once. in their language/dialect/whatever#instead of in sindarin or quenya. some millenia into the 4th age tou have a surge of ppl speaking cuivienen dialect#it becomes a clear distinction of who still has fondness left for the valar and who would feel indifferent if they vanished suddenly.#this tag essay has gotten way too long again. sorry besties it will happen again.#tag essay longer than the fucking post???? help#tolkien headcanons

I know there are Marineford fix it fics out there, and with Gear 5 ofc they exist.
But I just can't stop thinking about Nika activating early and yes, Ace gets saved, but the consequences. The absolute horror show that would be witnessed.
Luffy managing to push Ace aside, getting hit in the chest by Akainu's fist instead. And dying. He has to die, and he does because he can't survive that. But the situation, the context - he died to save his brother, to free him. He died in the largest act of recent liberation, and how could Nika not come forth for that? Things were just getting fun, Luffy had freed Ace and they were running and fighting and were so close to freedom.
So now it's Ace holding Luffy in his arms, seeing the hole in his chest and his life gone. And there's the long moments of shock and then denial and then rage.
But then there, in the open cavity of his baby brother's chest, gaped and visible for him to see, horrifically and wonderfully, is Luffy's heart, in tact and beating. And not just a slow, small beat. But erratic and loud. Wild beats, not like a war drum, but the drums of a celebration, thumping louder like there's a rhythm no one else hears but Luffy. Luffy who's dead, but whose heart still pounds. Powerful movements that make his body lurch up and down, up and down.
And Ace must think he's finally fucking snapped, because there's unthinkable colors shining in his brother's chest - an open, bleeding, viscera spewing chest - but the rest of him is draining to white, pure white, cloud white, bright white from his soft curls to his feet that are under him. And everyone witnesses this, stockstill and horrified as the dead, not dead now, maybe still dead, boy literally bounces to his feet. Or maybe it's the ground that bounces under him. No, it's both.
Luffy is bouncing back and forth and the ground ripples around him, sends him back onto his feet where he sways this way and that, a puppet with his strings broke, a body unused to being so light, a life pushed to the edge and over death and around again, coming back. But did he? Did he come back to life? Ace wants to think so, but when Luffy grins wide, too wide, with too many teeth, and his laughter grows, a laugh that's just like Luffy except not - Ace isn't sure. But he wants to be.
Except that hole in Luffy's chest is still there. But he's laughing, as though his own death was the funniest joke he's ever told.
And it is Luffy, but also Nika, because Luffy wasn't ready yet, he would be off. He would be wrong. And when Ace calls his name, the pink, no red, no pink, eyes that look at him don't see him at all. Don't recognize him, or maybe he's trying to, but Luffy-Nika just laughs, another funny thing, and Ace doesn't know if this is better or not. His brother not his brother anymore, alive but not, Luffy but not, a twisted mirror, a bright reflection.
And yeah, okay, the brief fight would be also terrifying, I think. Because there's a lot of people, and Nika-Luffy wouldn't recognize who's who, except those who attack him. Except it's a big ol game to him. He does the wackiest, physics defying shit that makes Admirals want him fuckin dead. Pulls the ground up like a wave, the buildings like blankets, bodies twist in his grasp like rope, the sky something to climb, something to bring down. Because loony toons shit like this, even in OP world is fuckin insane.
And now it's Ace's turn to get his brother outta there. To get him to freedom and escape and maybe get some help, because Luffy is alive but maybe not or maybe not for long. And its sickening to see Luffy connect his insides together again, with his bare hands, to blow into his thumb and see those missing organs and tissue and bones and spine pop up into place like they were just deflated, stretch his skin over to stick together for the time being. And when he sags against Ace's arms, white draining from him tired and sleepy and safe with whoever this man is, Ace is fuckin mess of emotions.
And then Law still comes, ofc. Someone has to properly stitch Luffy together, and be going wtf wtf wtf the entire time he's in surgery and all of Luffy's insides are there. And anyway, Luffy won't remember jackshit about any of it, but the absolute mess of it all is still there.
#one piece#gear 5#listen. dont look too hard at this as a fix it#i mean. yes. but also. with Horror.#and the government after luffy so much more now#idk idk. i just want the spooky shit#and ace to live. leave me alone

Ngl incredibly funny seeing white Americans scream about how Harris is losing and how they feel like their voices do not matter when that's how it has felt for black and brown people since. Forever.
#'i emailed and called and sent letters to the government why dont they listen?!?!?' ironic isnt it.

So, how many people has Ludinus convinced to, if not straight up drink the Kool-aid, then to be open to trying it? Now granted, I'm not quite done with the episode yet (I think I have like a third left), but I've got some thoughts. They're not very well organized or written out, but I've got them nonetheless. And they're probably not like. Super accurate or anything, this was all just sort of an emotional reaction I had while listening/watching and my attempts to figure it out. Apologies for what is basically me word vomiting on Tumblr trying to figure out my feelings.
It seems to me that this whole 'what have the gods done for us/let's get rid of them' thing sort of feels like a political science or philosophy discussion gone wildly off the rails. People discussing not being happy with the system, what do the gods really do and why do we need them, if the people who serve them abuse their power in these ways is it better to bring down those institutions or start at the source and work out from there...that all feels like stuff people discuss all the time. We debate topics, we argue for or against different moral and political and religious philosophies...debates get messy, historical events happen, the cycle of history continues...you get the idea. Maybe it's not the gods we're debating about but systems of government and power structures or economic structures.
But in a world where the gods are real and known to be real, where they're deliberately behind a gate so as to NOT have huge amounts of influence and power, where average people don't seem to totally understand the Divine Gate and its purpose and where the average person isn't having the sort of interactions with divinity that adventuring groups and religious leaders are, it feels like it isn't a huge step to take people from just talking about this to acting on it. And I know people have acted on things historically in our world too. Maybe that's why I'm listening to this conversation in this maybe hag definitely cult leaders hut and not totally disagreeing with points being raised. It's one thing, I guess, when the argument is being made by Imogen in regards to constantly hearing voices in her head. It's another when the village elder of a town currently suffering abuse under a strict religious system is making it.
I don't believe for one second that Ludinus gives a shit about taking down the gods in the name of freedom. I don't think for a moment that if Predathos is released and does what the name god eater implies that they'll be satisfied when the gods are gone. Ludinus is an ancient, powerful man with a big ole chip on his shoulder who's been nursing a grudge for centuries (who fucking ate fairies to live that long what the fuck ). He's also used to being in a position of power and influence through his role in the Cerberus Assembly and the government of the Empire. Based on the notes Team Wildemount found, we know he started all this by asking questions and fucking around until Molaesmyr found out, and that he either doesn't understand/know or care about possible side effects or consequences of his actions, or possibly both. He just, as far as I can tell, wants a power vacuum. When he says 'we take down the gods and we become the gods', I absolutely believe that the 'we' is 'him'. He becomes a god like figure. The cycle continues. And he's taking advantage of people, their very valid problems with organized religion and the power of the institutions, the problem of corruption and bad apples, the general lack of public knowledge of what the Gate actually does, and he's using it to convince people this is the right way. And it feels so much like things we've seen happen historically that it just...I dunno. I said this was basically emotional word vomit with no point, didn't I? But yeah, it made me feel weird and uncomfortable because I could see how people fell under his sway, how the arguments he makes can have merit to people.
And THAT is why...
Well that and he turned my favorite character into a fuckin orb battery.
#critical role#Cr spoilers#I got so uncomfortable and felt so weird listening to chunks of this episode#because like...the arguments being made about sometimes needing to tear something down so it can grow better...#the corruption inherent in organizations of power and in governments...#that hit a little close to some real world discussions and history and stuff#I'm not saying that these are bad discussions to have#or that real world circumstances and discussions along similar themes are bad either#it all just felt sort of weird#anyway apologies for this I just needed to get my thoughts out of my brain so I could move on with my day#damn you ludinus for making me think about things that are heavy and that I dont wanna think about at the moment#still hope Predathos eats you

Also don't let the French government tell you that the mess currently happening in France is the fault of the people (from trash being lit on fire to rats feasting on what is left of them). It's not true.
I can't help but think back of what Mélenchon said one or two years ago when he said that the government kept starting a mess and then accused the French people of being responsible for it.
Here it's the same thing, the people are not responsible for the mess. The government is by not listening, never forget that.
#dont get mad at he trash people for not collecting the trash#the government is responsible for this#they are the ones who refuse to listen#France#french stuffs

i miss 8tracks so much it was so good for themed playlists. its still up and running and i still use it but no one really makes any new playlists on it anymore which sucks because the only alternatives are youtube (never shows me the results im looking for in search) or spotify (every character-themed playlist without fail is always mother mother / penelope scott / cavetown / will wood / etc)
i like all of these artists but come on guys im begging you to be more creative at this point literally every character playlist i look at on spotify is the exact same playlist with a different icon like please please just let me find a good playlist that is unique and fitting im begging
the only people who on spotify who have never let me down are chainsaw man fans. you have seen the truth and share with the people the nastiest crustiest bangers of music and its exactly what id be looking for for that. never change
#txt#this was sparked bc i was looking for ed elric themed playlists and multiple were like 'songs ed would listen to!' and then be cavetown etc#i respect you but also you cannot tell me he would do that i dont believe you#shoutout to the person who made a denji playlist with 'government hooker' in it i think about it often

controversial opinion of the year is that i dont think barbie was that great bc its message was all over the place and also they didnt realize they had made kens the women in their story so it just seemed bizarrely misogynistic to me
#little anya things#me mid-movie: ahh i see so the kens are women in this lil scenario#the movie: ACTUALLY no we have no idea what we're doing#before u come at me. 1. 'women view each other as competitors not for jobs or accomplishments#but for the attention of men'#2. the general vibe of condescension towards ken's efforts on beach echoing specific condescension of men towards women's interests#that 'oh u pathetic thing u' vibe was so strong#3. ken being shocked that a woman respected him enough to ask him for the time. an event that HAS NEVER happened to him before#he is so touched by the feeling of respect... 4. nobody knows where the kens even live.#miss representation quote abt how 50% of the population is disinterested in the other half.#5. barbie feels instantly objectified in the real world whereas ken instantly feels respected in a way hed never been#6. they dont even have genitals so ken arent actually men and barbies arent actually women bc thats not how things work in their world#listen the first half of that movie i was like. so kens are women here.#then theres the typical revenge narrative where they start the 'patriarchy' that wasnt rly all that creative but fine#but then they got all confusing and barbies are women and kens are just men who have been rightfully oppressed all along?? even tho#theyve been women-coded this whole time. okay#7. kens go back to having no government representation or right to vote and this is sposed to be funny. i guess?#im not mad at the movie for being misandrist bc it wasnt. it was just trying too hard to do too many things#that it ended up just seeming misogynistic to me#not to mention it was doing the bare minimum and is just step one in a huge capitalist ploy to start making a bunch of toy-related movies#im genuinely shocked i havent seen any criticism abt it on tumblr when its such a sloppy film throwing out a confused message#in order to make money and sell dolls. what exactly am i supposed to take away from this.... it just seems so bizarrely hypocritical#for mattel to make a movie where they feature as side-antagonists who essentially learn nothing... just for mattel irl to make more money#off of everything they mentioned in the movie. like. what changed.#also america ferrera's character existed just to give that speech and otherwise she and her daughter were not relevant to the plot at all#it was funny and aesthetic and all but the more i think abt it the more im not all that impressed. idk. am i missing smth#i dont think so. i disagree w most ppl's analysis praising it. idk idk
