Pt1 - Pt2 - Pt4

The human slowly woke up, feeling a wave of dread and fatigue wash over them. Victor, a young and powerful god, had recently reclaimed them after previously granting the human freedom. He renamed them to "Amber" after witnessing the human spiral into panic when called their previous title of "my flower." Amber was a name they never intend on using other than when Victor was around. Only to please him and avoid being ripped apart any more than the human already was. After all, humans only have so many limbs to have ripped off before the damage becomes lethal... In fear of this monster that they call a god to go back on their word (which he did), they never granted themselves a home, a companion, or even a job. That way, the damage would be minimal.

Their thoughts were suddenly interrupted by an all too familiar touch. A large finger, gently stroking their back. Amber felt the finger move away as soon as they flinched. “My fl-Amber, are you awake?” Asked Victor. Their stomach dropped, suddenly feeling ill when hearing his voice. No, no! Amber wasn’t ready to deal with this, nonono why couldn’t this have been just some horrid dream?!

Victor watched Amber quickly curl up under the covers. He bit his lip and tried again, in a softer tone this time. “Amber? You don’t have to hide away, it’s okay… I’m sorry I scared you. Please come out”

Ambers frail body contorts with horrid cracks and pops to his wish's command. their muscles cramped as their body sat up and pulled the covers away. This was involuntary to the human, but they knew better than to fight the commands of a god. This was known as gods will. If a divine being such as Victor were to want something badly enough, their words could literally force it to happen. He never meant for it to be a command. But his wish to see Amber was strong enough to make it happen. Victor watched in horror, unable to stop what he had started.

He held the human that gasped for air in the palm of his hand “I’m s-sorry Amber, that… wasn’t my intention. I-I didn’t mean to, honest!” Victor speaks. They could feel the pain and anxiety radiating off of Amber. He loosely wrapped his hands around the trembling human. Amber tensed and squeezed their eyes closed, trying to make themselves small. "i-it's okay, it's alright Amber, let me heal you, let me take the pain away"

Amber stares at the god with wide eyes. "No, no! Please dont! Please dont!!" They plead while trying to wiggle out of their hands. At first, Victor didn't understand why. He knew that even back then, his healing never hurt humans. It was only once he noticed the scars and blemishes disappearing that he understood what had Amber so distraught. Amber would rather suffer in pain than risk Victor seeing the human without those. But it was already too late. Most of Ambers scars had faded into nothing, except for the ones Victor had inflicted on the human long ago.

Victor knew that the feelings he had towards the human were strictly one-sided. He knew that his feelings were wrong, but he couldn't help it. Victor looked down in shame. "Sorry..." he mumbled. But the apology fell on deaf ears. Seeing the pink on the giant's cheeks made it harder for Amber to face him. Their body constantly shook with dread and anxiety. Was their torment about to start all over again? Or would it be much worse this time? If Victor was still into the same sick and twisted entertainment as he was before... There was no doubt that he would have found new ways to pass the time. Maybe he would be even worse than he used to be... and what about Victors love? Amber had already blown thir cover that the human had absolutely no room for Victor in their heart... would that even matter to Victor?

But Victor had no such will for Amber. If anything, he wanted nothing more than for Amber to finally get the comfort they deserve. Unfortunately, he knew all too well that it wouldn't be well received. There would be suspicion, the constant worry of why and what the real intentions were behind his kindness... it stung his heart knowing that Amber was most likely speculating what kind of horrible torture they would have to endure before being granted freedom once more...

Victor ever so gently picked Amber up, making Amber hold their breath and cling to their thumb out of fear of being dropped. "Too high, too high!" They squeaked. Victor paused. How was he supposed to pick Amber up if they were afraid of hights? He had never considered this to be a hinderness before "I um... sorry, let me just -" he continued to lift Amber and brought the human to his chest. "Will this be okay? I won't drop you... you're safe now, that's a promise." A promise? From him?

"J-Just like you promised that I was free?" Amber mumbled begrudgingly. That caught Victor off guard. "Yes, exactly, why do you bring it up?" He asks while gently stroking Ambers back, he was trying his best to console the trembling human in his hands, but his efforts seemed to only stir up the human more as they tried to minimize contact with Victor.

"I'm... I'm back here, aren't I? Back in the place I was promised to be free from..." Amber explained while trying to keep their head away from the giant's chest. Hearing the gods' heart pound so loudly was bringing back memories. And what was worse was when Victor noticed, and their heart suddenly stopped. obviously, that made Amber very nervous.

Victor lifted Amber higher. "Amber, you aren't a slave anymore, I'm not going back on my promises this time, I've become better, honest! Or at least I'm trying. That's why... that's why I need you, you are the only one who knows me. You must- no... I need your help, please... help me become better for you." He pleads to the human. A god, pleading to a human? That's new... that's something both hod and humans would joke about, and yet here he is doing exactly so...

15 my deepest secret*. omfg i hated this webtoon. the twist was asinine and frankly ignorant. none of the characters were likeable by the end. hate quit this one with like 5 chapters left to go i just couldnt

14 my second husband. seemed promising at first! i was hooked for the first 40 chapters or so but then it just started getting weirdly paced, had big plot holes, and nothing ever felt like it was getting resolved. the ML had like 0 charisma as well. dropped.

13 to love your enemy. this one was REALLY fun until the cult arc hit and then it was the biggest wtf is happening. dropped it shortly after

12 i dont hate us*. i liked this one until the timeskip ending, where then everyone and everything just felt really off. the second female lead gets a special mention because i HATED her at first but by the end she was my favorite character <3

11 romance 101.* this was okay. the art style was really cute and i loved the FL. but there never seemed to be any chemistry with the main ship to me, and the plot became really focused on the app/programming club which bored the hell out of me. dropped this one around chap 100

10 shadow bride. nothing bad but nothing particularly noteworthy for me. fluff read.

9 high spirits neoma. im not very far into this webtoon yet, or it'd be higher up the list im sure. im around ch 5 and finding it really charming and i love the color palette for it

8 dreaming freedom/freedom in dreams. although the art style isnt my cup of tea, i really enjoyed this fucked up high school revenge/romance webtoon but where im currently at (ch. 111ish) it's starting to feel a little circular. hoping it goes back to what it does best which is Unsettling Shit

7 my reason to die*. man this would've been in my top 3 but the ending arc is just. really boring??? like i dont want to watch them search for a pot farm for 10 chapters. i havent finished this one yet, but ive been putsing getting back into it ever since post reveal. the drama is very pretty though and the reveal chapters hit me like a truck in a good way

6 operation true love. i borderline hated this webtoon when i first started, but the reviews had me wanting to stick it out and im so glad i did!! around ep 10ish it really finds its footing and just keeps going for it! very kdrama in flavor and endearing FL.

5 unholy blood*. a fun, dark, and nostalgic webtoon about vampires and vampire hunting that brought me back to my tween years in the best way. the character designs are really awesome. it's a little lower on the list because the ending felt a bit rushed, but it's a really solid horror/action comic with a lil romance

4 surviving romance*. this one's complete but i got about 10 chapters left. it's a really fun horror comic (NOT romance, dont be fooled by the title) that reminds me of extraordinary you but if the plot was focused on the metaphysical horror of it a little more. fun characters and relationships. a little lower just because the second "return" arc feels tedious/unneeded so far. we'll see. TEAM RINA.

3 maybe meant to be/fate found by chance. ive found that i tend to gravitate toward darker webtoons, so this is my c-c-combo breaker! cute, funny, quirky, and really endearing. standard contract marriage plot but between two delightful weirdos

2 purple hyacinth. this series is everything. the art is gorgeous, it has its own OST built into the reading. the characters are nuanced and complicated and omg it's a ride and a half so far.

1 olgami/trapped*. INCREDIBLE characters and such an intense look at enemies-to-lovers. the drama starts as a psycho-thriller about gravedigging for a vampire and ends up about two leads who have never learned how to love willing to try it with one another in their fucked-up way. dysfunctional. hot. SO GOOD. the art evolution for this series was great as well

I have been reading so many Villainess/Revenge manhwa and I honestly can't recall any like you're saying. The closest thing I can think of is a scene from "I Want To Become The Emperor So I Need A Divorce" where the husband's lover's uncle who runs a theater company is hosting a play meant to mock the FL, and when her shit husband asks what she thought of the play, and she lied and said it was nice and then he goads her further to start reciting her favorite line, she calls his fucking bluff and walks up to the actor that had played her husband and starts reciting exact lines, but in such a way it seems like she is genuinely flirting with the actor, and she even puts a royal gemstone on his finger to symbolically say "you're as good as the duke" and he gets so fucking mad he basically had the entire theater company ruined

I just want to watch garbage men be ruined, like I am actively seeking out stories where women leave their shit partners and enjoy watching them mald and seethe while living a better life with their new partner. I can't wait for the final season of Remarried Empress, and Father I Dont Want This Marriage, and kt isn't a romance but I think I will DIE if I never see the ending of Actually I Was The Real One because that fucking bitch tried to steal her family! And I also found an extremely similar manywa that's brand new called The Saintess Returns as a Villain and maybe that will be good but it is still too early to tell.

And you know what, I know a good revenge manhwa but it's more revenge in the form of "you neglected me and made me feel like shit so im running away and cutting you out of my life and even when I need support you aren't good enough" and that would be The Time Of The Terminally Ill Extra. It hasn't updated it forever so im afraid it might be dropped but it's about a girl who has been shoved to the side for the sake of her sickly younger sister who she has had to compromise everything for, even entering school late to take care of her, giving her her toys, being trained to never disobey or show she's unhappy because even when she cries she's told "how dare you cry when your sister is in pain?". Well, it turns out the FL is terminally ill, even sicker than her sister, amd she decides to run away and never even tell her family, who initially don't even care she's missing and then proceed to not believe it when they are told their daughter is fatally sick. I might actually start reading the novel because the story has me so invested. The FL has an uncurable illness called Artist's Disease where she can bring to life anything she draws but at the cost of her own life, but her family neglected her so fucking much they never even knew she liked to draw or noticed how extremely gifted she was, which, the extreme talent is a symptom of Artist's Disease because their abilities are "blessings", and if her family had noticed and gotten her diagnosed earlier she wouldn't be dying. But even as it's killing her, she refuses to stop drawing because it's her passion and joy. She grew up so lonely that as a child she would draw fairies and other people to talk to her and be her friends and her art is extremely personal to her that she would literally die than give it up. I really hope this manhwa finishes like I have heard spoilers about because it sounds like everything turns out alright in the end, but not before massive heartbreak 🥺

what are you using to make games, all your work looks so rad, how does one even begin

I use Aseprite for the main sprites (characters, tiles, menu and so on)

I use a lot of CodeManu's programs (JuiceFX and PixelFX Designer in particular) to create a lot of the "effects graphics", stuff like fire, water, jittery movement.

FL Studio 21 for the music (and a lot of publically available video game soundfonts and VSTs)

The little coding ive done has been in Gamemaker Studio 2 which i find good to use even if my coding knowledge is really poor.

Aseprite and all of CodeManu's stuff are both very cheap and pretty easy to learn, though Gamemaker and FL Studio are a lot more of a knowledge check and much pricier.

"How do you begin" is the much much harder question to answer. For me I began doing art and music because i realized no one but myself would do it for me for free.

I have been teaching myself pixel art and writing music for like six years now and i'd say im only really getting good at them now. My advice is really just to keep trying new things, consuming art that you fucking love, and trying to put your own twist on that even if its really shitty.

I am unabashedly a Toby Fox fan, it is completely self-evident in everything I make, and I really think thats a good thing. Being inspired by shit and ripping it off in your own way is like the crux of all cool things.

There is a lot of learning involved, and nothing really comes easily, but patience is literally the biggest thing to focus on. If i were ever happy with Canon in its early stages the game would be completely unrecognizable to the state its currently in. A lot of my creative process is learning to accept that some of your old ideas are shit, and not to hold onto the bad ones. I don't know what i would call it but you almost need to train yourself to get a sense for what direction Forward even really is in terms of moving a project like this along.

But really my biggest point is just make what you fucking love and dont stop. Canon is a joke i started in tenth grade as a funny Undertale parody game that now is actually a narrative universe with like six stories being told within it.

Also keep in mind that ive never released a successful game so uhhh idk lol. This is kinda just advice on how to make a huge ass project to have fun with for the rest of your life. But I hope the rambling at least helped inspire you in some direction. Tbh just have fun with it.

but yes i'm loving this kdrama too, i love the cinematography and the dialogue in it, i already knew i was in love with ahn bohyun but oh my god im discovering shin hye-sun with this one and i love her so so much shes such a good actress!! i just love it when fls arent afraid to shower the ml with love, even though hes not reciprocating it rn 😭 i love their dynamic so far!! and tbh i hadnt even noticed how easy things had gone for ji-eum, i think after watching so many kdramas i dont even clock that sorta stuff because it always happens 😭 like everything just coincides in the most perfect way possible for them lol, it is kind of annoying thats true, i guess the writers just wanted to show the beginning of how she'd found her "niece" and seo-ha again, then have a time skip so that the romance was actually age appropriate lol. i think what i have a conflict with is that it'd probably make more sense for her to just tell them who she is, but of course that would make the drama a lot shorter so they can't have that haha, i'm sure they would believe her because in her 18th life as ju-won she was already saying things about having past lives etc. but i also like this thing shes got going on of making him fall for her as ji-eum and not ju-won. im excited to see him heal, im also excited to cry more about her and cho-won because they are cute, and i swear cho-won deserves the world i dont trust the assistant friend guy yet (cant even rmb his name) but we'll see if he steps up. so yes sorry this ended up getting long haha but im really looking forward to this weekend for the new eps, waiting is torture and i really hope they will continue with the high quality bc this is such a strong start for me !! thank u for the ask anon!!!

I posted this on twitter and I wanted to post it here too cuz I'm a menace idk LMAO heres my (bad) opinions about most Redacted characters. Feel free to talk / disagree with me in fact its encouraged if you wanna!!

Vincent: I like him as a character much more than his plot. "Lovely gets hurt. He has to save them." Repeat til death... actually, continue to repeat post death. While at the same time being similar enough to the freelancer storyline for me to notice (flirtatious immortal magic user who doesnt understand boundaries helps humanborn magic user navigate the magical world, ft being taken advantage of by someone else because of their lack of knowledge, going to damn, etc etc). I really do love him as a character, though, he is so dang sweet, his nightmare comfort is one of my favorites and his character development was great I luv him

Sam: My comfort character, my favorite! I struggle with this because since I joined the fandom, and since the honor of comfort character was bestowed upon him, he has changed a lot, and his original plotline has been neglected imo. Also the jokes about him being old (he is a singular year older than vincent) and a cowboy (he has a southern accent) were never a thing earlier on and honestly they kind of bother me, just cuz they dont make sense to me. If it was occasional that would be fine, but it's become the punchline of every joke? Truly I think my issues started when they became mates, simply because that was a Bonus Audio. Sam set a boundary and then went to bone town in his very next standalone vid. It felt really rushed and unneeded. Maybe I just found comfort in the fact that neither him nor the listener were being sexualized. The one after it was spice too. The fact that imp!Sam exists, that it is a possibility for him to be the way he is there if circumstances were different, alone confuses me and makes me think I've misinterpreted his character. Despite all of that, I love him very very much. The first half of his storyline is amazing and I really hope they bring it back full throttle. The struggle for trust between him and darlin and them becoming partners despite their circumstances is really cool. Both of them being rough and tough and unfeeling on the outside but truly soft and gentle and touch starved 😭😭❤... I love them dearly, especially as a concept and their potential and I cant wait to see more of them and I want them to have a good ending even if I literally cant conceptualize a happy ending for them LMAO

Adam: ... my skrunkly.. I absolutely adore the idea that went into him, and like... his character idk hes just so cool. One of my favorites even if short lived

David: hmmm hmmm... I like him a lot. The beginning of his playlist bothers me, and his talk with Darlin was iffy, but if you get past that stuff, I do really appreciate him. Hes very good. I want to see him sad more I love his angsty stuff and his voice is nice to listen to

Asher: his voice is a cheese grater to my brain. He is my favorite wolf despite this. Before the inversion, I wasn't 100% sold on him, but during and after it? Hes just so good and genuine and soft and I am so down, even if his voice took a second to adjust to. I don't have much to say here simply because hes just very good

Milo: hes good! I didnt pay a ton of attention to him, admittedly. I wish sweetheart got some more focus, theres such a great opportunity there to clarify some stuff about the department

Avior: My second favorite character! Hes SO good I think the story has slowed down recently and I just want to KNOW but also, I dont mind too too much. Hes the character who holds the most of my favorite videos. I just want them to be happy so bad. I relate to him the very most. Hes never done anything wrong in his life. Actually he has but I understand why he did it too much to possibly judge him for it. 10/10 I adore his storyline and his listener and their relationship and I just want everything to be okay for them and I want to see more fluff from him so bad 😭😭 I think he is easily one of the most well written characters and best plot lines, but the stuff after his confession so far couldve been consolidated / shortened and been just as effective

Regulus: Empathy daemons in general being compared to children worries me too much to watch his videos. I have lots of thoughts about (empathy) daemon ages and how they work but I have no idea what's canon and that in and of itself is the problem

Vega: My third favorite! Absolute love of my life I loved him before anyone else fuk u guys prime Vega is perfect (/j) and I am SO excited to see where his story goes I love being manipulated I love how hes a total monster but hes so chill about it he has gaslit me into thinking hes a good person and I'm cool with it I love him so much hes probably my favorite to listen to he is very well written and his voice is so soothing 10/10

Alexis: Unpopular opinion time: She did nothing wrong. Sam is absolutely allowed to be upset, hes allowed to be pissed, hes allowed to never forgive her. He can feel whatever he needs to to get through what happened to him. She did nothing wrong and I will die on this hill. Maybe she should've given him longer to try to save himself. Maybe she could've been more gentle. They were BOTH panicking. They were both in shock. Vincent was turned against his will under very similar circumstances. He hated william for it. But we dont villainize William, in fact we praise him for saving Vincent. For all we know, Alexis has a very positive relationship with being a vampire and her own turning, and didnt really understand the gravity of the change she was about to put him through. I'm not saying shes a perfect character with no flaws, or that we should praise her, but she did a perfectly human thing. I dont see how saving someone you love and then never ever pushing when they dont want to see you again could possibly mean she had bad intentions or is a bad person

ok here is my objectively correct ranking of chandler groover fl stories (sorry there was a recent study independently conducted by me that determined my subjective opinion of fl is actually objectively correct)

1. Cricket, Anyone? - yeah, I'm basic. what about it. everyone talks about how the lore reveal is cool (and it is) but also more importantly: its funny. i love when fallen london has jokes

2. Por Una Cabeza - this one is actually tied for first. i think cricket is more ICONIC (and funnier overall) but I think this one might be a stronger narrative. Which one is actually in first depends entirely on which one i thought about most recently

3. Paisley - it was hilarious that right around when this story came out, which is all about making outfit changes to unlock more story, fbg tried to do the outfit lock thing. lol. perhaps even lmao.

4. Codename: Sugarplum - I don't think you could conceive of an animal that i would be less interested in trying to help than a miniature dachshund. but this story was pretty fun anyway

5. SALON SCANDAL! - A little creativity in presentation goes a long way when youre playing a bunch of exceptional stories in quick succession, and a story that is a flashback to not long after you arrived in London, where you not only get to choose your own choices, but what is at least publicly considered to be The Truth of the situation? That's fun! That's novel! I even like the fact that you don't ever get to learn what ACTUALLY happened- did you lie to the reporter? Did you tell the truth? Does it matter? What you told him is what people know. That's functionally the truth. But this one gets points off for deciding my character's motivations for me in the end, and also because the base story is kinda boring.

6. my kingdom for a pig - sorry for being a big thicky bo-bo but this one gets points off for the whole ending sequence being confusing to me. There's a particular style of writing that shows up a lot in FL where things are evocatively written, but vague and abstract. Some people really like this. That's why SMEN is popular, and people claimed to have enjoyed Flint. I think it sucks! My brain just slides right off them because I can't find something concrete to actually hang onto. I managed to grasp what was happening in this one a little better than other examples of this style of writing (see: Flint, which is my nemesis and I will not rest until I see it slain) but it's still a little off-putting to me and I don't enjoy it. Also I can't stop thinking about the way that FL tells you about it's lore, which is to say, it doesn't really. What the fuck is a Stone Pig? I mean, I know because I read the wiki, but what if I was just trying to learn about FL by playing it? Where does this come up? I think it's just in Sunless Sea, and here. And maybe a little mention in the Taste of Lacre stuff? idk. i also think the stone pigs lore is so rarely brought up that it seems kind of superfluous to the fallen london lore. i dont really know what's added by there being another animal that lives on/in the bazaar that propels it through the high wilderness. i would have just assumed that was like. a power it had. "How does the bazaar travel between stars?" is not a question i would have asked because i would have assumed it can just. do that.

7. caveat emptor - i was really on board with this one when i started it, because i was like "oh cool its like fallen london dracula!!! i love it when they do classic lit in the exceptional stories" but i think it kinda got up its own ass with its own lore, and lost the Dracula energy and also didn't have any of the humor that I really liked in the best groover stories

7. the hurlers/discordance storyline - remember above, when I said that I don't like the poetic but vague style of writing that is common in fl?? Yeah. the discordance stuff is also easier for me to follow than Flint but it is, unfortunately, kind of annoying. its all like "you DONT walk up the stairs and you DONT go into the anchoress's kitchen and you CERTAINLY ABSOLUTELY DO NOT eat all her doritos and then leave the bag on the counter" like ok i get it. youre being so obscure and mysterious. heres a medal. can we just get to the story already.

9. the crocodile who would be king - what even happened in this one. what was i trying to achieve. im sure all you smarty smart heads are gonna read this and be like 'UMMMMM irrigos it was VERY clear" but please consider the fact that i am disabled and also i am dumb and cant read. why am i here? why did this ask me to help? what am i even trying to help them do? why did this story take like 100 actions? i liked the fact that there was a nemesis tie in at the end though. thats always a hoot.

No cuz hear me out again. The Point of no Return. The phantom and Christine sing this duet at the end when you is going to "betray" him in a sense. This has my mind racing right now omg. So imagine Beomgyu and Oc singing this together.

Beomgyu:

Oc: (actually starts 4 lines up at 'you have brought me')

And here's the catch, in Phantom of the Opera, the phantom overhears Christine singing a live song to her love. He then does a reprise of that same song back at her at the end of this one. Ie:

(He gets cut off before he says you)

But like, what if Oc and Hyun sang this and Beomgyu sang it back to her. BEFORE SHE BETRAYS HIM!

At the end of this opera all three of the characters sing a song in which Christine's love (I don't know how to spell his name it's french, but like tyuns character parallel essentially) says "dont throw you life away for mine". What prompts this is him being suspended with a rope by the neck and Christine is trying to get the Phantom to let him go if she agrees to spend the rest of her life with him. The Opera ends with him finally giving her up but later in the second one you find out that the child she has is actually his (phantoms) from years before she left and got married to what's his face but yk, plot. This also sparks a duet called Devil Take the Hindmost, where the phantom and her husband make a bet on who she will choose. Then the phantom basically says 'sucks to suck bud but the child is mine lmao'. Obviously I am paraphrasing. I hope you haven't seen the musical because otherwise my explanation is probably redundant but yk how it is. But just like bear with me and imagine them all going at it through song so oc can hear tyuns pretty voice before he gets it.😭

Anyway, my point is this is probably, most definitely not what you had in mind but it makes me feel like there could be some hope for less death death in the story. I thought it was a cool idea or parallel. Obviously your ending will be good no matter what and you are not going to copy POTO storyline and plot, but if high school has thought me anything its to make connections to everything.
