There’s something about the batboys having kids.

Bruce had never expected to live long enough to have children, let alone see them have children of their own. He is hit with grief all over again as he holds his first grandchild (!), knowing deep in his heart that his parents never got to see him grow up, never got to see this family he created on his own. This tiny ball of life is in his hands, possible because he raised these boys into men able to become the fathers they’ve lost, and Bruce is suddenly eight years old again, on his knees as he makes a vow and it’s suddenly all worth it.

Gotham may never get better, but as long as there’s this: the possibility of new life being brought into the world and loved in a city of smog and unbalance, it’s worth it.

Because Bruce is a grandfather, his parents and Alfred are great-grandparents, and his children are parents.

These boys, brought up in dirt and pain, held together by a bird’s song and determination to make the world a better today and tomorrow for all who follow.

These boys, who’ve faced the horrors of loss and desperation, watching their bones be broken just to get up the next day and do it again and again because it makes the world safer.

These boys, his boys, held the weight of the world on their shoulders, suffered trial and tribulations, and seen the worst of the worst of the worst, and decided to do good. Decided that no matter how much harder this path was, it was worth it to see families thrive in the face of it all.

And then they did it themselves, creating families of their own in the world that trusted them to protect both young and old, and they felt safe enough to have that for themselves, too.

His boys. His stubborn, fearless, empathetic boys.

They’re older now, not as old as they could be but not as young as they should be, and Bruce is no longer the spry man he was. His age is catching up to him, as are the numerous fractures and spinal injuries he obtained, and he will have to retire from hero life (and he can do that now, something eight year old him thought was impossible to achieve).

But now, the passage of time is daunting, anc looking down at the bundle of joy (a chance, a start of something new-) in his hands, eyes locked on him and chubby fingers reaching for the chain on his neck with his parent’s wedding rings, and Bruce knows that it was worth it. He is old and tired, but his sons are alive and well, and there is now the possibility to grow old enough to know how his legacy extends into the future.

Bruce is a man of fists and Kevlar, forged in a pain long past, but now everything is different.

There is a new way forward, and it’s defined by love, not grief.

there's something to the way after they see Isla's painting, Icarus just gets kind of sad and dejected. They're not angry they're just. Sad. They almost seem defeated. Just done with all of this, and just. Upset. They don't remember their mom, they don't know *her* - they almost cry seeing their mom. All the anger leaves because they're just. Upset. And that seems to stick with them until they go to sleep for the day - at some point they give up fighting their feelings because being angry is just tiring, and being angry with themself is even moreso.

oooooh! okay, so i was going to write it out ( i am jennifer slowpez so in nina fashion, i am spoiling it, what's new? ) but there is a part after this...if we remember this ask i am obsessed with where raven is diabolically patching jersey up via the tiny child sized hellokitty carebear bandids kyle bought for the kids he works w in the elementary school via that one anons delicious input...genius really.

kyle notices that the vinyl record player is playing their sadie hawkins first dance song ( idk what song it is but its an abba song because thats gay rights baby! its probably my love, my life or andante andante...branch in my eyes ) and theres a bowl of skittles, but only the red ones are in it...because stan still eats around the red ones bc only kyle can have the red ones....brb crying!

yadda yadda yadda. and i think on the tv, the screen is paused over a brand new episode of say yes to the dress ( if we recall, before i deleted chapter six...which was a disaster but also a masterpiece rip, ravenstan was being so boyfail cute in it in his armani suit and was rizzing the hell out of kyle with his crunchy boy knowledge of plants...when stan came over for their #hate fashionably late, kyle was stress-watching say yes to the dress...which is his favorite show because he claims to be allergic to romance, but secretly thinks its really beautiful that people can fall and love and get married...AAA )

but anyways, when they start dating say yes to the dress ( shoutout to when ravenstan forgot what it was called bc adhd and called it Are You Down With The Gown ) became their show and kyle very quietly is like "were you going to watch it?" and stan getting nervous, trying to deflect because they always watch it together is like uhuhuhHhHh and kyle, sad laugh shaking his head is like "baby" *yersey swearing* "dude...baby dude...my guy...just guy, fuck, you know you can watch it without me. we're not...Together. *hurts worse than his ribs* you don't have to wait for me." and stan is like "i-i know. i was going to...i-i Wanted to! i just--i couldn't. i couldn't watch all the people in...."

PETER (post nwh)

something i was thinking about was peter post nwh, and since now nobody knows who peter parker is.. does that mean he no longer has to pull back his actions?

not that i think he really has much of a life for peter parker anymore other than spider-man, but if he did would that also mean if he chose he could be a completely different person that never aligned with peter parker?

he could go in industries where they need strength, or just help people around and be known as the weird scrawny kid that's actually very much not scrawny somehow... or

does peter stay who he is, with pulled back strengths and a restrained personality? does he do that to keep the small version of himself he still has, or does he eventually lose it too when unable to keep up with who peter parker is anymore, or keep up with the idea that he exists outside of spider-man.

what id do to know what happens post nwh.. i need to know about thta man and his brain . theres so much that could be done esp if were talking about actually exploring his trauma.. ohh im gonna go write a separate post about this actually
