lmfao at using brightline as an example of this succeeding. it connects tremendously wealthy cities and everyone else gets shit in their mouth
What we need to do is convince all the disney adults in america that high speed rail would be a preferable way of getting to disneyworld compared to driving or flying. We could maybe harness their fondness for the monorail or something, but this is a group of people that has time, income, and passion that we could leverage. If we could direct 5% of the enthusiasm they have for limited edition popcorn buckets into calling their representatives and demanding high-speed interstate rail, we could get it by 2030

Actually, I reblogged something earlier today that brought up the Greenwood Massacre, so here's a crash course on that for those who don't know. This's the shit Ryan's trying to revisionist history on.
Content Warnings for racism, violence, death, general stuff you'd find in a racially motivated act of terrorism, cause a lotta it'll be covered in this video.

Have you heard of Franklin? It was/is a video series by donoteat01 on YouTube following the development of a fictional version of Philadelphia.
I think a city builder where you run a late victorian industrial city ala Chicago or Buffalo or Pittsburgh could be interesting.

An Angry SimCity Rant
Oh for fuck's sake... another "SimCity is Libertarian Propaganda" article? Yeah, the book that the original SimCIty was inspired by might be Libertarian wonkery, but SimCity (2000 and on at least) made me a Socialist. In most SimCity games, the city is responsible for: Roads, Transit, Police and Fire, Healthcare, Power and Water, Garbage Disposal, and Education (including Higher Education!) All of these are city services, funded via revenue collected via taxes. If that isn't Socialism, I don't know what is!
And, to be fair, there's underlying assumptions to the SimCity model that aren't great, but to say that it's Libertarian is absurd on the face of it. Libertarian SimCity would pass all of these services off to the private sector.
People also love to point to Magnasanti as "beating" SimCity, by having a 6 million population of people living in totalitarian misery. Bull. Fucking. Shit. Maganasanti is not the end-game of SimCity. There is no requirement to build something like that. A SimCity player can focus on quality of life over population. As long as you have enough revenue coming in from taxes to pay for  services, that's all you need to keep playing the game. A city of 100,000 people, all content, healthy, and well-educated is as valid as Magnasanti.
That's not to say that SimCity is above criticism. It's not. But the knee-jerk assumption of SimCity as Libertarian Propaganda does not hold up if you've played any of the fucking games to any significant degree.
Except maybe SimCity Societies but that one doesn't count.

One great thing about leftist Youtube is the comments, which is something I thought I’d never say, but gone are the days of 2009 when people just yelled slurs in the comments and then argued about the existence of God. Leftist youtubers have a lot of funny, charming people in the comments. I don’t even wanna KNOW what kind of comments are left on right-wing Youtuber channels, but I guarantee you they’re 100 times more horrible and completely devoid of actual humor. This alone is proof that leftists are funnier, more caring, and cooler than right wingers.

i'm looking for more youtube videos to have on in the background while i work, could you recommend any youtubers you like?
Here’s a smattering of YouTubers that I can broadly recommend, excluding some obviously mega popular content creators (I’m not gonna be like “hey have you heard of the McElroy brothers and Defunctland?”)
Jeremy Parish for his series like NES Works and Game Boy Works in which he looks at a system’s entire library in chronological order. He’s great about providing the historical context to convey how much of a step forward (or back) each game was for its time
GeoWizard’s straight line missions across Wales, in which he attempts to hike in as straight of a line as possible across Wales, and the subsequent mission across Norway. It’s much more entertaining than it sounds
Movies with Mikey. He’s always got an interesting angle on the movies he talks about, and in a sea of nitpicky CinemaSins wannabes it’s nice to have someone just talk about why he likes movies
Maggie Mae Fish is a rising star of the leftist YouTube media critic scene. He videos can be a little heavier since she talks about a lot of media that covers heavy topics and she doesn’t shy away from political angles, but her stuff’s always interesting. A good first video to watch from her is her Cats video
8-Bit Music Theory goes over my head half the time but it’s always interesting to see in-depth analysis of game music.
For something similar but more digestible to music theory casuals, check out Scruffy, who also has a great video on Sonic music
Errant Signal’s like one of the granddaddies of thoughtful game criticism on YouTube, looking at them more as art than as products, but I still gotta recommend him. His “Children of Doom” series charting the evolution of the FPS genre has been interesting lately
I’ve liked alexandcrackers forever and her stuff (usually about games, but sometimes about web culture and other stuff) never gets enough attention. She’s always got an interesting angle and she makes it fun
He can be a bit dry but donoteat01′s Franklin series in which he charts the development of an American city from the colonial era into the modern day through Cities Skylines and uses it to talk about all sorts of political issues relating to urban planning is super informative. He also made the definitive video on why Elon Musk’s loop is a bad idea
Supporting Actor Spotlights (formerly No Small Parts) looks at the whole career of a single supporting actor in film and TV and it really gives you an appreciation for character actors
Studson Studio does very entertainingly edited craft videos where he makes scale replicas of buildings and other things from games and whatnot out of largely recycled materials. He also does some Gunpla kitbashes
GST Channel does cool genre-based mixes of obscure SNES and Genesis music as well as artist spotlights for classic game composers (especially all the people who made music for old licensed games that was way better than it needed to be), including extra trivia popups if you’re watching along and not just listening to the tunes
If any of y’all like Transformers and don’t already follow him then I gotta plug Thew Adams for his extremely entertaining figure reviews in which he gives love to even the weirdest and least mainstream of Transformers
I don’t even follow sports but I’ll watch any sports video by Jon Bois. Easiest to recommend is his history of the Seattle Mariners
Stop Skeletons from Fighting is one of the most fun retro game channels, particularly their Punching Weight series where they celebrate the weird, ambitious, and unnecessary
Okay I could go on and on but I think this is a huge enough list

50 States of McMansion Hell: Campbell County, Wyoming
Howdy, folks! It’s time for us to go home, (big, ugly) home on the range. That’s right: It’s time for Wyoming. Now, when I think Wyoming, I think of rolling hills, ranches, incredible landscapes, and also that book about cowgirls that Dick Cheney’s wife wrote.
On that note:
Tumblr media
This beautiful 5 bed/4.5 bath 6,000 square foot house was built in 2002. It can be all yours for around $700,000 USD.
Let’s mosey on down through this here estate.
Divorce Lawyer Foyer/Living Room
Tumblr media
Now, I’ve been an architecture enthusiast for about a decade of my short, two and a half decade life and never have I seen something as both absurd and patently useless as whatever the hell that thing separating the foyer and the living room is. Does it have a structural purpose? No. Does it have an aesthetic purpose? Also no.
Kitchen
Tumblr media
(Running for president voice) “Folks, when I become president, I assure you that the injustice - the absolute tyranny -  that is the island stovetop/wall oven combo will finally–” (crowd cheering) “– and I mean finally, be put deep into the ground where it belongs.”
Dining Room
Tumblr media
The aged bronze chandeliers must have been on ultra clearance. Personally, as someone who loves a good deal, I cannot shame them for this.
Master Bedroom
Tumblr media
What I can’t determine is what they were going for with the sponge paint on the walls. My closest approximation is tree bark, in which case what we see before us in fact is deeply offensive to the trees, who are innocent and don’t deserved to be involved in any of this.
Master Bathroom
Tumblr media
I don’t care how nostalgic we as a culture get for the late nineties/early aughts, sponge paint should never come back. One, it’s sponge paint. Two, it is ridiculously labor intensive and frankly we could all be spending our last few years on this still-habitable earth doing something more worthwhile with our time, such as going outside or falling in love or destroying our brains on the internet.
You are seriously not ready for this
Tumblr media
When making this picture I realized I desperately need to log off.
Bathroom 2
Tumblr media
Computer, enhance.
Tumblr media
Ok but you can’t even read that in the shower. If you’re that desperate for prophetic, non-digital bathroom reading material, buy a bottle of Dr. Bronners or, like, a copy of War and Peace.
Basement
Tumblr media
Poor Little Julie. :(
Well, that wraps up our interior. Now, for the final frontier, on the frontier:
Rear Exterior
Tumblr media
Somehow this house looks more like it’s made out of cardboard than the many, many houses on this blog that also look like they’re made out of cardboard.
Anyways, that does it for Wyoming! Stay tuned for next week’s Brutalism Post, Part II: What Brutalism is Not. Have a great weekend, folks.

lately i have found that i have finally grown weary of vaporwave/lofi mixes to leave on in the background while working and my new productivity jam is “long videos of men calmly explaining things relevant to their interests in a technical manner”
examples include:
“franklin” series by donoteat01
steve1989′s MRE reviews
“dark souls dissected” series by illusionarywall
defunctland
“bronze to gm” starcraft 2 series by vibe
i have a lot of comms to do so if you have any recommendations for things of this sort please feel free to offer them, even if they’re about shit i wouldn’t normally care about
