okay, I keep seeing people wonder why lloyd is digging through the trash and I just gotta clear something up: you guys do realize that donation bins exist, right?
that's why he tries (and fails) to explain to the officer that they're employees at a collection company, he's trying to say they're here to collect all the clothes to take them back to whatever facility they go to.
like I don't think lloyd is that dumb enough to be grubbily sticking his arm in just some random trash bin for clothes?? 😭

i love being a trans dude with a gnc cis husband. sometimes we go through our clothes and swap because i express myself much more masculinely now than i used to and my husband expresses himself much more femininely now than he used to- and we don't throw clothes away unless they're unusuable, so we end up keeping a lot of old clothes. today i gave him a long blue suede vest i bought eight years ago and wore, like, twice- and he hasn't taken it off in hours. i'm at this very moment wearing a tee shirt he gave me years ago, back when we were temporarily long distance, that barely has a graphic anymore because i've worn and washed it so many times- that he gave me to begin with because it'd just been sitting at the bottom of a drawer anyway. sometimes we receive well-intentioned gifts we know we won't wear and stash them away to deal with later- only to realize it's perfect for the other. sometimes we get the honor of repurposing a garment that made one of us feel uncomfortable to affirm the other. sometimes we get to tangibly see the overlap in our superficially different styles- and how our styles have changed together over time.
turns out sometimes the solution to “i love the way this looks but not on me” is to just give it your spouse! who knew! isn't queer love beautiful?

Y’know some days thrifting is fun and you find interesting old pieces and clothes that have been well loved, and sometimes the racks are entirely Old Navy tank tops that were clearly worn once or twice, and the hang tags say 2021. 💀 why are people buying and disposing of/donating clothes SO fast nowadays? like i know fast fashion is at its worst these days, but it seems crazy that i can find nearly new condition stuff that was being sold in retail stores like, a year or two ago. do people not LIKE the garments they buy anymore?

Akinlabi - is a silly joke with him being trans + comes with a nickname (akin) which has also nice vibes
Avati - has the right vibes and sounds perfect
Jandir - has a cool meaning I can turn into a motif for his design (honey bee)

Beanies! I kinda got myself caught in a loop of “if I want to do this, first I have to do that”:
To start the pride quilt, I first have to finish the floral quilt, but to finish it I have to have clear floor space for the quilt sandwich, and to have clear floor space I have to put stuff away properly, and to put stuff away properly I have to make something with fleece, because my fleece won’t fit on the fleece section of my shelf anymore, so to make the pride quilt I must first make a dozen beanies
Eight beanies done, four to go! And the other four are more than half sewn! :D

I think a way around this block I have about sharing what I've been doing is to share the unaesthetic process pictures, instead of a self-imposed pressure around whatever I finally end up as "finished" (not often)
This one is causing me some trouble because whichever way I flip that bit on the left, it works, and points somewhere completely different. I can't commit myself to one or the oth

From completely unwearable to both sturdy and sexy in one day, ain't too shabby I reckon
[ID: front and back pictures of black zipped cargo trousers with patches sewn on. On the front, the fly has a pink triangle and embroidery reading 'XXX', a medium sized patch reading 'ANGRY YOUNG AND POOR', and a large patch reading 'QUEER ANARCHY NOW!' over drawings of nature. On the side of one leg is a large patch reading 'TORIES MAKE ME FUCKING SICK'. On the back, one pocket has a black paisley bandana design and the other has a light floral patch reading 'TOUCH ME AGAIN AND I WILL FUCKING KILL YOU'. Near the crotch, covering the enormous hole previously rendering these trousers unusable, is a patch with a picture of a cactus captioned 'EVERYTHING IS A DILDO IF YOU'RE BRAVE ENOUGH'. End ID]

Poverty Reduction: Charity Donation Boxes (and the Unhoused/Homeless)
Donation boxes for various charities have been seen a few times.
The toy “Mr. Monkeyjocks” leaves the Heeler family when he is put in this donation bin, so he can go to a new home.
We also see an (either regular dog or a dog-person-infant) -shaped donation bin at the supermarket and a donation bin (possibly for clothes?) by the pre-school Bingo goes to.
Like some other children’s shows (I’m thinking of PBS’s “Arthur”) needing charity/being homeless is something that has come up.
Dad imagined being without a job in the episode S1E31 “Work” when he was fired from the pretend drainpipe factory. He had to become a street performer (in the rain.)
That said, there is at least one visible homeless dog-person in Bluey-Brisbane, not including the two street performers I’ve spotted (music busker dog and gold-guy dog)
Specifically talking about this grey dog, spotted downtown on the pedestrian mall in “The Quiet Game” - the bulldog guy drops a $5 bill in his hat.
We see him again at South Bank near the end of S2E47 “Ice Cream”. He walks past, glances at the trash container (maybe looking for food) and continues on.
Note Dad watches him, as does Bingo (who is slightly more considerate than Bluey?). Either one or more things is probably occurring to Dad:
This could easily be him; Dad has a good life, enjoying time in an upscale part of town with his kids, spending money freely on things like ice creams, etc.
Dad could also be thinking about what being homeless is like, recalling the “Work” story;
He might have been thinking of sharing his remaining ice cream with this homeless dog (but maybe not, not many fathers of very young children would want to “go here”);
He might just be keeping an eye on the guy. Would not want a fun day to be ruined if the homeless dog acted inappropriately, etc. The homeless dog just continues on its way, it doesn’t ask Dad for money, etc.
Homelessness / being unhoused / poverty reduction is an issue (and a complex, multifaceted one) in many cities. Bluey is a relatively realistic depiction of life in a modern city for young families, so it’s interesting it is lightly touched upon in a way that can stay “in the background” or become a conversation-starter for viewers.
Would not be surprised if this comes up again in a future episode.
