Hi! Im really sorry on sending this, i just hope im not overstepping any boundaries as I’m about to ask help which is very important right now :( my dog, Gizmo needs an urgent dental surgery. He is having a real hard time eating and I can't afford to pay the vet to help him so I'm reaching out to ask for help, I mean even if you can’t help monetarily, reblogging or sharing it would truly mean a lot. He is my therapy dog and my bestfriend, I am undergoing chemotherapy due to my leukemia and I cant do this without him. I have pinned the post on my blog, please try to also answer the ask privately as some people tend to get weird on this stuff. Please send us prayers, be safe. ♥️🙏
Listen, I totally understand the need for fundraising, but do it through a reputable organization and ask people to donate to the vet, not to you. You can set up payment plans through vets specifically with a funding option. That way, nobody gets scammed, as often happens on social media. I saw you are having it paid through PayPal and not through the vet. That will get you labeled as a scam even if you aren't.
I legitimately have less than a grand to my name right now and barely enough savings for my own animals in an emergency. I wish you the best of luck if this is real! Recently having a 600$ kitten vet bill I know how hard this can be. ** This was indeed confirmed as a SCAM Stay safe out there folks**

Here is kitty Kochi, from last year to currently.
When Kochi first began to gradually lose weight, I thought it was just due to age (she's about 14-15 years old). But, she began vomiting, lost nearly half her body weight, and was extremely hungry all the time. At the vet, her white blood cell count was high (along with high NEU, MONO, ETIC-HMG). She has developed either IBD (Inflammatory bowel disease), or cancer. We're hoping it's the former.
Due to the IBD, intestine inflammation wasn't letting Kochi's body take in needed nutrients from her food. Which is why she was so hungry all the time and lost a lot of weight.
Although, Kochi is now on medication, a special diet, and stabilized, flare ups still sometimes occur and she's barely gained 1.5 to 2 lbs since April 2024 (when she was diagnosed).
As a "starving artist," it seems I now must rely on the kindness of strangers.
If anyone would like to help provide aid for Kochi's care: Special food, fiber supplements, and calming diffuser (it mitigates anxiety to reduce flare-ups).... Then please look at this Giftster link: https://www.giftster.com/gift/public/wv7Zq/?q=show_back (Her medication I can only pick up at the vet's office).
Or, donate via Paypal to my email: [email protected]
Kochi and I greatly appreciate your generosity. Thank you so very much, everyone! ⸜( ´ ꒳ ` )⸝ *bows* m(_ _)m

Radio Free Monday
Good morning everyone, and welcome to Radio Free Monday!
Ways to Give:
fira211's sister, the single mother of a 5-year-old, has Stage 3 breast cancer and is currently unsure what insurance will cover in terms of treatment; they know at least some of the testing will not be covered but the rest may be subject to change. They're raising funds to help with treatment and other expenses; you can read more and support the fundraiser here.
inkstainedchocolateeyes linked to Ellery, who is raising funds to cover his top surgery; it's being billed in-network but he still needs about $7K for what insurance won't cover, and in addition is moving to a new apartment with all its attendant expenses. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.
inkstainedchocolateeyes linked to phrawger, who is in her fifth year of fundraising for the charity Extra Life, which supports children's hospitals via game streaming. Phrawger is behind on donations due to the ongoing issues with Twitter, where she received was most of her historical pre-game donations. If she reaches $1.5K during the stream it will put her at $10K lifetime raised for Extra Life; she's also offering incentives and "enhanced" stream features for various milestones. You can watch and give at noon eastern on Saturday 11/4, running for 24 hours; you can read more and reblog here, give via Extra Life here, and join the discord to get updates here. (I usually vet all the links I share and while I did vet the first two and I'm sure the third is fine, I don't use Discord so I haven't checked that last one.)
Buy Stuff, Help Out:
bisexualbaker is offering crochet patterns of cute cats in exchange for proof of relief donations to Palestine and/or Israel; you can read more, reblog, see photos, and find out more about how to get your pattern here. (The post includes links for recommended nonprofits to donate to.)
uncle_cool is fundraising to cover future care costs for their cat, Drogo; Drogo was hit with an infection and has had to see an emergency vet. They've already covered the majority of his care bills, but will need help with further treatment expenses. Any excess above costs will be paid forward to cover care costs for other animals brought in to the emergency veterinary office. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.
Recurring Needs:
just-juniper-joy is raising $390 to get through a lapse in emergency assistance; they are currently waiting for disability paperwork to go through and in the process of renewing the emergency aid in the meantime, but their county office is moving slowly, and they need to pay for medication, phone, and internet, as well as rent. You can read more and support the fundraiser here.
rilee16 is raising funds after having to use rent money to pay their electric bill; their roommate, with whom they have had a number of issues, has been an ongoing issue and is also costing them money. They have caught up on October costs but now need to cover November; you can read more, reblog, and find giving information here.
gwydion linked to a fundraiser for Squirrel, a good friend who has recently lost his job and needs to raise about $800 to cover bills and food this month. You can give via paypal here.
gwydion linked to a fundraiser for a friend, whose dog Rosie needs medical care, dental work, and special food; you can read more and give here at gofundme.
And this has been Radio Free Monday! Thank you for your time. You can post items for my attention at the Radio Free Monday submissions form. If you're new to fundraising, you may want to check out my guide to fundraising here.

Y’all know the sick cat scam going around on tumblr? I’ve seen a lot of advice —good advice!— on how to not fall for one of those scams
But
I also know a lot of my mutuals are good people with big hearts who easily feel guilt-tripped into believing someone’s seemingly heart-felt story.
So idk if my two-cents are any help, but as a veterinary receptionist I think I have a solution on how to approach a convincing“Sick Cat” plea:
Offer to make a donation on their behalf directly to the vet clinic!
Idk about every vet clinic around the world, but I know amongst the many clinics I have worked for/with, none of them would EVER turn down an anonymous donation to someone’s account for their sick pet! I take many of those calls. We LOVE them! Any money towards helping a pet get better is welcome money. I’ve taken $5 donations, $50, $1000 —I even dropped in a $20 from our spare change bucket once.
Think about it: the vet clinic doesn’t want this animal to suffer. But they also can’t do a procedure or treatment for free because they have hard working employees to pay, and veterinary care (in the US) is privatized (it’s the sorry reality but until HUMAN health care improves, animal health care just is where it is in this country)
Does the vet clinic care where the money for the procedure is coming from? NO. They don’t care if it’s your grandma’s credit card, $6000 in cash, or a bunch of random people calling to put $10-100 dollars on some random person’s account. Money is money to an office manager, and whatever is there to cover expenses for a sick animal is a weight off EVERYONE’S shoulders. (I may just be a receptionist, but even receptionists hurt when an animal passes away.)
So. If you have someone on your dash or in your inbox asking you to donate money to their Venmo or PayPal for their sick cat/dog/ferret, and you really don’t know if it’s legitimate but don’t want to blow them off in case it is…
Ask them the name of their vet. Look it up on google. And call.
The receptionist will ask for the owner’s last name and the pet’s name. If the “owner” is legitimate, they probably will give you some identifying information for the pet or the account. If they don’t want to (for internet safety) there are ways for the receptionist to narrow it down. I.e. the procedure, age of the animal, when their last appointment was, their doctor. And especially if it’s a pricey procedure that the owner has had difficulty finding funds for, SOMEONE at the clinic will know!! If the person in your inbox is legitimate, then they will probably WELCOME you calling their vet to make a donation!
(Tbh, if people call to donate for an animal, it makes a stronger case for the vet to cut costs on the procedure because it PROVES the owner is making a sincere effort to pay)
DON’T just take the phone number of the vet from the person asking for money without verifying it. The phone number could be theirs or a friend who is just gonna take your card info and run off happily into the sunset with it. Verify (via the internet) that the vet is real. If the info they gave you about their sick pet checks out on the vet’s end as all being true, DING DING DING it’s not a scam!!! Donate away!!!
But if it IS a scam, the scammer will probably try to convince you it’s easier to give money to their Venmo (it’s not), or that their vet doesn’t take donations (they do). If they are avoiding this option, and the other signs of scam hold up, then block them and walk away.
TLDR: if you’re not sure if it’s a “Sick Cat” scam, offer to call their vet and make a donation!
#animals#veterinary#vet care#tw sick pet#tw sick animal#please ask if you want more info on how this would work#happy to divulge information on how vet clinics work#the more you know the easier it is for everyone

requests for money in your askbox
hello friends,
today i received an ask from someone needing money for their cat, and i was surprised to receive an ask instead of an IM, so i went digging, and there were some red flags, which i'll share for all of you:
the asker's blog was created today
the asker does not follow me or any of my friends
the only people who reblogged the asker's post requesting help were also blogs just created today
the asker requested money via paypal, rather than a safer site like gofundme, or even asking for donations to the specific vet's office
all of these details together are sketchy, no matter how nice the asker was in my askbox, and how much they wanted me to think that they were legit.
the beauty of tumblr is that it is built on relationships. there are so many people out there who need help, and it's fine if they post here. but if you want to help someone, always make sure they're legit and not trying to scam you. and knowing them, or someone you follow knowing them, or them having a blog with an extensive history and engagement with lots of real people, is a good place to start.
be safe out there, friends.

Be so careful on PayPal especially when people are asking for donations for things on Tumblr
A few weeks ago someone in Brazil was posting saying she needed money for her cat's vet bills.
Because the exchange rate was so good, I gave her $30 twice, because it equaled so much more money in her country.
But then she messaged me here & tried to tell me that they had a flood or something and they needed more money.
I did not respond.
So she sent me an email asking me for more money and I still didn't respond.
Well.... she just tried to take $500 out of my account via PayPal without my permission. It was labeled as a donation to a Christmas fund.
If I did not have fraud alert protection she could have gotten into my account and drained me dry!!
I don't remember the user's name but I do remember it was a gray cat that needed medicine.
So no more helping anybody for me.😱😱😟😩🥶
What a freaking world when this is how your kindness is repaid.
AND I DID NOT MAKE THIS POST FOR PEOPLE TO ADK FOR MONEY IN EXCHANGE FOR SEX.
DO THAT ON SOMRONE ELSE"S PAGE!!!
"There are two things in life you should never have to pay for: sex and office supplies." Henry Rollins

Hey everyone, this is Mafdet. Life has been rather hectic, and unfortunately this is one of those times where a snag is too big to ignore.
My cat Ares has had to go to the vet hospital yesterday due to an blockage that made it impossible for him to go to the bathroom. And as of this morning after they drained the poor boy’s bladder, they’ve found two stones.
While a surgery would have solved it quickly, that would have added more strain to our financial situation -- as of now, this visit alone is around $1,600 (whereas with surgery, it would have put the bill at around $3,500), and going with the dissolving the stones slowly would keep the cost around there. So, this is what me and my fiance are going with, and hoping for the best.
This still leaves us $1,600ish in the hole, and we’ve barely been able to scrape by with my working at Subway, even though the vet office will be working with us and letting me pay this off by monthly payments. So I’ll be opening up art commissions.
My fiance will also be offering his services in writing stories. $5 per page of a story of your choosing (within reason and non-smut). When the page(s) are done, he will send the story in images to confirm that the content is acceptable, making edits as needed (free of charge). When the work is considered satisfied, he will then send the file to you in the file type of your choosing.
You can find his examples here in google docs: ----> [Example 1] [Example 2] [Example 3]
The last one was an commission that was never paid for, but would have been $15 (while technically four pages, there’s only one sentence on the fourth page; he’ll charge fairly).
Below are basically examples of the kind of prices one can expect with me.
We reserve the right to decline commission if we are uncomfortable with it, but please still share your details to know whether we’re okay with it or not.
When I’m done with your commission, I will show a small preview with a watermark over the image to show the results. If satisfied, I will send an invoice to you for you to pay via paypal, and once the payment is received, I will send you the full sized, unmarked artwork through e-mail.
If you want to skip the invoice step, please make sure that you don’t have this sent as a payment for physical shipment.
My artwork will still hold my signature within its content, but I’ll ensure that it doesn’t interfere with the picture itself.
If you want to simply donate, I would be very grateful for it!

Hey guys! I wanted to thank everyone who had come forward to help via donations or commission requests!
I’m touched by how many people want to help Friend out, so I want to be very clear with how I will be handling the donations I’ve received:
Donations that were made through Paypal/Ko-Fi will be used first to cover any immediate expenses. Any money made from Commissions will be used to cover the rest of the bill, and for any other additional costs that might crop up (food, medication, boarding, etc.)
The vet has only given me an estimate and has made it clear that the costs may increase; Friend may need to undergo different rounds of medication and procedures, and there’s no telling what they might find.
I’m in a very fortunate position myself where I have a paying office job and the vet I’m working with are very understanding folks. Let’s fight for him, guys!
Commission slots have all been taken up, but if you’d still like to help Friend out, I encourage you guys to please send a Ko-Fi my way.*
*I prefer Ko-Fi for donations as Paypal sometimes flags personal payments as payment for goods and services. I also have Ko-Fi notifications enabled, so I see them as they happen!

HAPPY HALLOWEEN-Senior Planning, Halloween with Pets, Vet Visits
When we are young we don’t want to think about our golden years. But as we age, it is a necessity to consider how our long term care and life-style will be. We will discuss housing, health, and legal tools to help sail through our senior days with ease.
This Halloween enjoy the festivities with your pets. Integrative Veterinarian Dr. Carol Osborne, DVM offers a few simple safety tips for pets and their owners to help ensure fun for all while trick or treating this season.
Are you properly prepared for your veterinary visits? Since our pets can’t talk, humans need to be able to give a health history. For the welfare of your pet, it’s critical to know what vets need to know to help your furry friend.
This Halloween enjoy the festivities with your pets. Integrative Veterinarian Dr. Carol Osborne, DMV offers a few simple safety tips for pets and their owners to help ensure fun for all while trick or treating this season. 1. That bowlful of candy is for trick-or-treaters, not for Scruffy and Fluffy. Chocolate in all forms can be very dangerous for dogs and cats. Tin foil and cellophane candy wrappers can also be hazardous if swallowed. If you suspect your pet has ingested a potentially dangerous substance, please call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center at 1-888-426-4435. 2. Popular Halloween plants such as pumpkins and decorative corn are not toxic but can produce stomach upsets and even intestinal blockage if large pieces are eaten. 3. Keep wires and electric cords taped securely to the floor or covered so your pet doesn’t chew them and risk burning his mouth or getting an electric shock. 4. Elevate candles and potpourri oils, up out of paw reach. Curious pets and kittens can easily knock them over and cause a fire or risk getting burned. 5. Dressing up is fun as long as your pet enjoys it and the costume is safe. Be sure it does not restrict his or her movement, breathing, hearing or sight. For pets who prefer their “birthday suits,” wearing a costume can be very stressful. 6. All but the most social dogs and cats should be safely confined inside your home during peak trick-or-treat hours. Too many strangers can be scary and stressful. 7. When opening the door for trick-or-treaters, be sure that your cat or dog doesn't dart outside. A leash and collar for dogs and a harness for cats help to ensure your 4-footed friends safety. 8. Proper ID’s please! Always make sure your dog or cat has proper identification. If for any reason your pet gets lost, a collar and tags and/or a microchip increase the chances that he or she will be returned safely to you. 9. Black cats can be a target for Halloween pranksters. Keep them safely confined indoors and be aware that many shelters will not allow adoptions of black cats over this holiday. 10. Holistic options for pets that may become fearful or stressed by the festivities: cotton balls in your pet’s ears help diminish loud noises and a few drops of Bach’s Rescue Remedy added to your pet’s food or water bowel help to safely calm nerves and relieve stress.

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- A dog weighing just 19 pounds was rescued in Cleveland. Mutts in a Rut Rescue posted about the rescue on its Facebook page and said the 1-year-old pup was at least 20 pounds underweight. Officers from Cleveland’s Division of Animal Control rescued the dog named Malachi after a neighbor reported him wandering the streets near the Rainbow Terrace Apartments on the city’s east side Monday night. Chief Ed Jamison said the officers rely on people reporting dogs in distress in order to get them help. “The good Samaritan that brought this dog inside and immediately called us, they can be credited with saving this dog's life,” he said. Jamison said someone likely starved the dog then tossed him onto the streets or else he escaped from being trapped somewhere, because he would likely not have been able to survive long on the streets in his condition or someone would have reported him to animal control. “His condition is about as severe as you can get, next to him being deceased,” said veterinarian Dr. Rebeccah Urbiztondo, of Westpark Animal Hospital, where Malachi was being treated. He was hooked up to intravenous fluids and receiving rationed food as he was being nursed back to health, but he appeared in good spirits. “He has a lot more energy; he has a vigorous appetite; he's really responding to the attention we're giving him,” Urbiztondo said. “He's doing great. I think he'll do really well.” Urbiztondo said Malachi appeared headed for a full recovery, which could take several months. He could then be placed up for adoption. If you would like to help Malachi, Mutts in a Rut Rescue says you can do so via PayPal - [email protected] or send a check to Mutts in a Rut Rescue PO Box 111335, Cleveland, OH 44111. Or you can call in a donation to the vet clinic on the Mutts in a Rut account (216) 252-4500.

FROM JADED PAWS RESCUE - PLEASE DONATE! "Update: 10:30 am - WE NEED FUNDS!!! While waiting for the results of the x-rays and the blood work we did today, Honey Bee was placed back on oxygen and had her morning meds started, to include more fluids/penicillin. She is thankfully fiv/felv negative, the bloodwork shows she's slightly anemic but after getting the results back from her fecal (hooks/rounds) the vet isn't highly concerned. The bloodwork was done to show us if she had any major internal bleeding, and at this time our vet doesn't suspect so. The x-rays were very jumbled looking so 1 of two things could be going on right now...either a diaphragm tear (which requires a specialist) or an issue with the placement of the liver (which requires hospitalization, time and rest.) Due to the uncertainty as to which of the two is going on, we are reaching out to a specialist that moonlights at other offices in our area in hopes that she can help us, if not...we're looking at heading to NC State, which means vet bills are going to get expensive and fast. As of right now, we are working to restabalize her as all of the moving around and the meds wearing off have caused her alot of discomfort. She is being hospitalized for the day, and will be picked up this evening (our vet doesn't have anyone on call during the evening, so if something went wrong no one would be there.) We can't express how important it is that we stabilize her at this point..so that if the vet team feels she needs surgery, she will be ready. Donations are VERY much NEEDED! We could easily be looking at a $3k+ surgery for this little girl. Donations can be made via PayPal to [email protected] or as of right now via Academy Animal Hospital in Jacksonville NC 910-353-3131. Even a simple $10-$20 can go a long way!!!" (at Jacksonville, North Carolina)

URGENT! FUNDS NEEDED FOR EMERGENCY SURGERY! Ok we need to rally FAST. Gordon has fluid and air in his body cavity...the fluid being the most concerning. He is possibly bleeding internally or has a damaged bladder leaking urine into his body. Normal protocol would be to have an ultrasound, however there are apparently no techs available for a week. That won’t work. This leaves us with 3 choices - move him to another vet NOW (we have nowhere to take him that will be less so that’s out), have the vet do exploratory surgery OR euthanize him (not our preferred option). Guys, this dog is so sweet. We want him to have a chance. We would like to have the surgery done but the vet’s office is requiring we pay an additional $1250 before they start surgery (his new $3000+ estimate attached, swipe left. We have already sent them $1750). Gordon is at your mercy. If you you can possibly help, we appreciate it more than words can express. Donations can be made via PayPal to [email protected] OR direct to vet payments up to $100 can be made to Pets R Us (661) 272-1600. Thank you for every share, prayer, good thought, healing energy and donation sent Gordon’s way - he surely needs it right now.

For this episode of Community Conversations, we spoke with Lori Spence from NOVEC Helps, the non-profit arm of NOVEC in Prince William County.
Q: Tell us a little bit about, just basically, NOVEC in general.
A: NOVEC is your local cooperative – Northern Virginia Electric Cooperative. We are different than the other power companies, we’re not investor-owned. We’re a cooperative with almost 170,000 consumers. And we’re different because we help each other, you know, we need our customers, they need us – we work together. We’re non-profit.
Q: Tell me about NOVEC Helps.
A: NOVEC Helps is an entity with inside NOVEC. We’re a community outreach program. It’s hands helping our community. We wanna give back. We were started in 2008. You know, the economy was a lot worse back then, and since we are a cooperative, we wanna help each other help our consumers. We’re passionate about our work, so we thought ‘What can we do to give back to the community?’ So we started NOVEC Helps – Hands Engaged in Public Service – and we are a fundraiser.
We ask the community to give us their needs. Anything that is a 501c3, we will donate to if it’s your cause. We have a request form online. We are a 501c3 and we do so many causes, we have fundraisers, we have ways you can raise money for us, with us. We don’t always ask for money – we’re looking for time, for talent. It’s 100% volunteer, there’s not one paid position in NOVEC Helps, and we raise money for the community.
The things we’ve done recently: we’ve done the Wreaths Across America, we’ve donated money for Quantico, we’ve worked with SPARKS, which helps schools in Prince William County, we’ve helped with the Zombie Walk, we’ve worked with SERVE and ACTS – Empty Bowls with SERVE. We just had an event there. October 3 was a huge event for us – it was our first time that we did – it was a volunteer day. And we worked with Project Mend-A-House here locally in Prince William County, where we had over 90 volunteers and employees. And like I said, it’s strictly all volunteer.
We went to a local trailer park and we refurbished some of the trailers – like the skirting around it, some issues that people were having – you know, the things people can’t afford to do themselves. It’s basic needs.
Q: So does now NOVEC help fund that or is this just through the volunteers, or do the volunteers have to raise the money to help with projects like that? How does that work?
A: We do both. We have two major fundraisers. In the spring we have a golf tournament, and later on I’ll talk about our upcoming fundraiser, which is a Texas Hold’Em poker tournament. And we raise money through the year. And it’s great because our consumers or anybody watching can also help raise money and it doesn’t really cost them anything. It’s that time of year, it’s time for shopping, if you go on to Amazon – I think it’s smile.Amazon.com – and you can register there, and you can actually pick NOVEC and 0.5% of your purchase they will automatically donate to NOVEC.
Right, you know, and if our consumers want to help, all year long in any of our offices we collect eye glasses for the Lions Club, we collect small electronics – people are always getting rid of their old phones, iPads – bring them to us, we’ll take them. You know, because then we recycle. We do a lot of our own recycling – aluminum. We have a great program. We work with an organization called Vets on Track in Stafford County. And what’s so wonderful about them is they help veterans rehabilitate, get into housing, and if you are spring cleaning, you’re moving out, you want to clean out, anything you have, any furniture, call them and they come and get it. That’s the beauty of it. So you can help like that. You can directly donate to us.
Q: As far as NOVEC customers, is there an easy way for customers, like if they’re paying their bill, is there something like they can add a dollar or $5 or $50? Is there any way like that, that NOVEC customers can donate to your program?
A: Not right now on your bill, but they can actually go to our website NOVECHelps.org, or you can follow us on Facebook, Twitter. Actually NOVEC, our home page, links to NOVEC Helps and you can make a Paypal donation through there.
Q: So it’s very easy to find you?
A: Very easy. Very easy. We’re all over.
Q: So tell me about the poker tournament that you’ve got coming up.
A: It’s next Saturday, October 28 at the Prince William County Police Association Hall off of Independence Avenue off of 234. Registration starts at 5:30 [p.m.] and the game begins at 6:30 [p.m.]. It’s a $60 buy in, and we have some really great prizes. The first prize is a $500 Visa gift card, and we have other things like brunch on a cruise, different gift certificates, restaurant certificates, movie theater passes. But mostly it’s a lot of fun and comradery.
It’s really easy to get to – the Prince William County Police Association Hall is on Independence Avenue right off of 234. You know, they’re there, they’re helping us out. Anybody that’s 18 or older can play. As I said it starts at 6:30 [p.m.] – you don’t have to be great at it – I don’t know a thing about poker. Or about how to play Texas Hold’Em. But it doesn’t matter because there’s such good comradery and friendship – if you don’t know how to play, somebody at the table’s going to help you. If you do know how to play you can use your expertise to help somebody else. And it’s just – we have food and drinks – it’s just a great, fun way to help raise money and re-fund our pot so we can give it back to our community.
Q: So basically all of the money that’s raised is going to go back into the community somehow?
A: Every bit of it.
Check back for the next episode of Community Conversations.
