Beelzebub is a lot more perceptive than people like to give him credit for. With brothers like his and being an athlete, he has to be in order to know what's going on.

Which is why it doesn't take him long to notice the way that MC shies away from a lot of foods, clothes, and objects. Completely random to the common eye, but Beelzebub is most concerned with the food issue.

It's not like MC doesn't eat, not at all, they're healthy and never skin out on a good, fresh meal, but they're always so odd with what they eat.

Meats are off the table most of the time, which isn't all that bad. A lot of people just don't like meat. But some drinks and a good few veggies and fruits added onto that is what confuses him.

Maybe MC was just a picky eater, which again is fine, Devildom foods are weird to get used to, but it also seemed prevalent in human foods, too. To Beel, it seemed completely random, from a few spicy foods to a few sweets and sours, in his eyes he couldn't find a common connection.

So with a breath, he knocked on MC's door and entered when he was allowed.

Beelzebub wasn't normally so nervous or anxious, but he knew human bodies were delicate and didn't want MC and their odd aversions to certain objects or foods to somehow leave a bad mark.

"MC," he began after entering and shutting the door. The human sat in their bed with their D.D.D. in hand, "I have a question."

Intruiged and curious as always, MC responds.

"What's up, Beel? Something wrong?"

"Are you okay?" MC blinks, a little caught off guard at the vague question. The giant demon stood above them, looking down and vaguely reminding the human of a large dog looking at a toy it was attached to.

"Uh- elaborate?"

"You don't eat some stuff and you don't touch some things."

To their credit, MC understood after a moment, and they tried not to seem rude by the way they gave a laugh and smile, shaking their head.

"Do you mean how I don't like touching certain fabrics or eating certain foods?" The ginger nodded at the question.

"That's kinda common for humans," MC explained, "It's called sensory sensitivity. Some textures feel really bad to touch or to eat, so I tend to avoid them. Nothing is wrong with me, I promise."

Beelzebub nodded in solemn understanding, sitting beside the mortal on the rather Plush and comfortable bedding. In his hands was a small box of cookies he knew they favored a lot that he'd taken with him. It took everything in Beelzebub's power not to tear the box open and have at the cookies himself.

"So you can't have some foods or wear some things because they feel weird?"

MC nodded, though they didn't seem very down about it. To them, it was simply another day like any other, knowledge as common as grass is green and Luke despises anything demonic.

To Beelzebub, though, it solidified his resolve as he passed the now opened box of cookies over, one in hand and another in his mouth.

"What food can you not have? I'll eat them for you."

The serious expression to the previous words caused another laugh to bubble out of MC, and they took their own cookie from the box.

"It's hard to explain, but I'll pass you any whenever they come with a meal I have. Deal?"

Beelzebub nodded and put a hand on MC's head (the demon struggled sometimes with such casual affection and touch with most people, but had recently picked up on simply resting a hand on the mortal's head and leaving it there for a minute), and after a few moments a comfortable silence and sharing cookies, he spoke once more.

"Hell's Kitchen?"

"Hell's Kitchen."

That side: "Lucien and Vassa will carry book 6, the final ACOTAR book! Vassien FTW! Vassien has so many shippers! It's a major ship!"

^ They're literally called a lesser known ship (I blocked out the accounts of the other two just in case any enraged Elriel tries to identify them... but if you search the Vassien tag you'll find the original posts). Vassien was competing against the other rare pairs (aka no real major ships like Feysand/Nessian/Gwynriel/Elucien and yes even Elriel (I'll admit Elriel is a major ship... BUT VASSIEN ISN'T)).

I know posts like this may seem like I'm mocking Vassien shippers, but I'm actually calling out the Elriels who disguise themselves as Vassien shippers and try to paint some strange narrative where Vassien and Elriels are the top two shipping fandoms like they are not lmao.

It is fine to ship rare pairs. In fact, it's great because it introduces more pairing diversity into the fandom! If you are a true Vassien shipper reading this then I hope you continue doing what you like! What is not fine is pretending to be fans of a rare pair and acting like you're making some 3000 IQ move when you're just clowning yourself.

I've always been of the opinion that it's insulting and beyond rude to act like you're a fan of a ship you're not for your own hidden motive.

I'm not going to share the name of this poster since, again, I don't want anyone to identify them and hunt them down. Anyway the whole point of this post is to show that if there are two full-length novels left AND each book will follow one main couple with alternating POVs, then the only way the math adds up is if the next two books are Gwynriel/Elucien in any order.

I kinda dropped out of ZZZ (Cuz I'm too stupid to figure out how it works), so I'm really sorry if anything is inaccurate or mischaracterized. I'm also pretty behind on HSR cuz the damn Aventurine boss mopped the floor with me even after the nerf.

I'll start with Anton cuz he's one of the characters I wanted to get when I first downloaded the game.

Anton would probably dress up as Santa or an elf. Nothing else. He'd spend the day before Christmas baking all sorts of goodies, but if anyone dared to touch 'em before Christmas day and their name wasn't Santa, he'd be yapping up a storm at them.

He'd probably avoid being outside on Christmas day, being cooped up inside by a fire to keep warm while drinking hot chocolate.

He'd probably get everyone he knows a gift. If he couldn't find a good gift to give, he'd be distraught. He wants all his friends to know he cares about them, so he puts great amounts of thought and effort behind each gift, the wrapping paper used for the gifts, and which little name tag on the presents they get.

Onto Sugilite!

Oh boy.

He's probably a chaotic good person, just like Aventurine. But slightly meaner. This might be the "water the character down into the one popular part of their personality!" in me that many fandoms have drilled into my head, but I think he'd do some morally grey shit for funsies and act surprised when people get mad.

Bro would smack an ice cream cone out of some little kid's hands and cackle when they start crying, but act like it wasn't his fault when someone yells at him for it.

Besides the mischaracterization, he seems like a deeply lonely and insecure person. If not that, then a man with a superiority complex since we see him eating all alone at a table that's made for many people.

So, when he encounters MC, there's a chance he'll soften up OR he'll be one of those "I'm not doing this because I care about you, I'm doing this for my own gain!" characters since Hoyoverse seems to enjoy doing that with rude characters instead of keeping them the way they are. Cough cough, Scaramouche/Wanderer.

53 total, technically 1 of those is under a different pseud because it's the only fic I ported from FF.net onto Ao3 and I used my FF username as the pseud for that reason.

2. What’s your total AO3 word count? 

Just checked and apparently it is 2,416,967 .... sooo that's totally normal right?!?!!

3. What fandoms do you write for?

I struggle to write for more than 1 fandom at a time so right now I'm pretty much only writing Shadowzel from BG3.

Yep, no surprises there. But actually my 6th is Choni: She Didn't Know It Then but seems like my older fics from the fandom that was probably the biggest I've been in have the most kudos, makes sense to me hehe!

I try to respond to as many comments as I can while I'm posting. Unless I feel the urgent need to respond to a comment, I only respond when I'm at my desk about to update. So I don't usually respond once a fic is finished unless the comment really compels me to. This is simply a time and effort kinda situation, I read them in my email and they always make my day, and I'm always happy to respond on social media if anyone ever wants to chat about any of my fics!

6. What is the fic you wrote with the angstiest ending?

The angstiest ending?! Uhhh I'm a happy ending girlie. I guess technically it's probably one of my Hosie oneshots in my A World Where I Was Yours series, just because it's my version of post canon of Legacies!

7. What’s the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

There are too many happy endings in my fics for me to decide aaahhhh. Ummmm. Maybe it's hard to breathe (when you're in the air) which is one of my favorite Hosie fics that I wrote?? but idk seriously they're all happy endings in terms of the pairing so it comes down to which characters in which fics had the happiest overall life situation and there are too many to think about it lol!

8. Do you get hate on fics?

I've gotten negative comments for sure but I dunno if I'd call it hate exactly. The negative comment that I remember the most was on a Choni fic and they complained that the characters were too OOC, and it was nooooot done constructively at all and someone else (possibly same person different guest user) piled on even more rudely... so that wasn't fun (and also yeah all my characters are kinda OOC because that's what happens when you write AU?)

9. Do you write smut? If so, what kind?

Yes, yes I do. I feel like it's fairly vanilla. I used to mark everything rated M before I was informed that perhaps I've been writing E smut without realizing it lmao. So now I rate new fics with smut as E.

10. Do you write crossovers? What’s the craziest one you’ve written?

I haven't ever posted any crossovers, but I did start one that was a Legacies/The Runaways crossover because of an idea that seriously amused me, but once I wrote the premise I got bored and stopped lol.

11. Have you ever had a fic stolen?

Not a whole fic but back in my FF days someone took a Halloween Party chapter (wow I write those a lot actually, I'm not even a Halloween party girlie) and used it as a flashback on their Wattpad fic and someone kindly let me know and I had to message them to take it down.

12. Have you ever had a fic translated? 

Yes! I had a few fics back on FF.net that were translated into French :) but the deal was that I wanted to post them because I wasn't comfy with someone else doing the posting of my ideas. And now I typically turn down offers of translation just because I'm less comfy with it now then I was when I was younger.

13. Have you ever co-written a fic before? 

I haven't, but I'd be open to doing so if it was for an idea I felt like me and the other author(s) were really vibing with!

14. What’s your all-time favourite ship? 

Impossible question. Whichever ship I'm currently obsessing over is my all-time favorite. Which would be Shadowzel rn. But probably in a few years I'll feel differently lol. I strongly feel that all the ships I've ever shipped are the best ever and I cannot choose a favorite.

15. What’s a WIP you want to finish but doubt you ever will?

Sooo many. I have a ton of Choni WIPs that I never finished, including one that got to like 20-30k words but just sits all dusty in its word folder. I once started a Part 3 to my Clexa travel fic (Come With Me linked earlier) that I couldn't get into but the vision was soooo cute. I also started a Part 3 to my Choni travel fic which also had a great vision but I'm just not as into Choni anymore so it feels hard to go back to now.

16. What are your writing strengths? 

I think I'm good at dialogue and characterization, those are my favorite parts of my own writing at least!

17. What are your writing weaknesses? 

Dude. I apparently cannot get enough of adverbs. I have to prune so many when I'm editing fics. Ugh. And I have some repetitive phrases that I also end up having to prune out.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language in fic? 

I've done it before with google translate and made modifications when people who spoke those languages corrected me haha. But it's not something I do often just because it hasn't really been super relevant to most of what I write.

19. First fandom you wrote for? 

Glee. It was Glee. I was 13. We don't need to talk about it.

20. Favourite fic you’ve written? 

My favorite?!!? It's always my latest fic, I pretty much always feel like the latest thing I'm working on is the best and so it's my favorite right now for sure. And that would be Reignited (Shadowzel).

More discussion under readmore; I decided to make this post a jumping-off point to talk about a few things. XD (It got long. as usual :P)

RE: some of the stuff here, something interesting that I find worthwhile to bring up - and which I've been thinking about - is...

Okay, so for example, there was this one post by someone from a while back where he kinda said something like "what I don't think a lot of people realise about fandom is that you can just have fun with it and do whatever you want, there are no rules, you don't have to stick to what's 'canon' or whatever" (this is all paraphrased from memory) and I found it really fascinating because like, yes, absolutely anyone can, and is free to do that if they want to! At the end of the day, fandom is about having fun, being a Fan, enjoying yourself, etc etc

but what I found specifically intriguing about the phrasing is that it seemed to imply that everyone would want to do this, if only they knew they had "permission" to do it (and I could be entirely wrong on that front, but that was my personal takeaway/impression regarding that post's underlying implications). And as someone who is, as this chart itself states, is "known for actually sticking to canon facts", I could only read that post in bewilderment thinking "well, yes, I am fully aware I have the freedom to do that if I want to... it's just not really what I'm here for. It's not what I want for me and my personal fandom experience; it's not particularly fun for me in the same way that focusing on what is and isn't "canon" is fun for me. Pedantry about canon is my area of fun (lol)."

It comes back to that whole thing about curative vs transformative fandom - both types are completely valid ways of engagement; the point is to have fun, and different things/types of focus is gonna be fun for different people; me trending towards curative fandom doesn't make other people's transformative fandom any less valid and worthwhile, and so on and so forth. (And like, I do engage in transformative fandom too, of course. I write fics, sometimes I do play around with the more transformative side of things, etc etc, it all depends on what's fun at a given time in a given fandom space, and so on and so forth, haha).

The way that my own focus might differ from other people has caused me to run into difficulty sometimes - especially when I find it hard to distinguish what type of fandom a person is engaging in (transformative or curative), or rather, what they are asserting - ("this is my personal 'twist' on canon" vs "I am making an objective assertion about the nature of canon itself".)

Of course, different competing interpretations of canon can and do exist, that can honestly be half the fun of it. Discussion, analysis, debate, these things can be very fun and interesting for me. It can just be really tough for me sometimes when someone goes "X about canon is the case" and I can't tell if they're saying "this is an Objective Assertion about canon which can therefore be debated back and forth, with different viewpoints that are able to be brought up and exchanged" or "I know this isn't canon, but I'm simply choosing to put my own personal spin on what's there."

Because I'm always down to discuss and debate about canon (like, it's fun and interesting for me! And you can learn new things or new perspectives by such forms of engagement) but I also don't want to come across as like, rude, or ruin other people's fun, because that's not my intent (fun is the point of fandom after all; it's a hobby). So like, I'm not going to go around shooting down anyone's harmless transformative fandom or whatever because that would be completely inappropriate; they're operating in a different sphere in their fandom approach.

I think the trouble comes in where an "objective" assertion does seem to be taking place, and I get confused, because it can still be pretty ambiguous for me, so it's like, am I even "allowed" to point out that this "doesn't seem to be true, per the rules of Canon" (i.e. a curative-fandom based discussion back and forth, where both parties can consider perspectives they may not have been aware of before, purely based off the rules of what we can see in canon), or are people just going to get hurt/offended/insulted if I try to do that?? (i.e. do they already Know it isn't canon?? do they not care either way, because they're engaging in transformative stuff??)

The way I see curative fandom is that it's entirely based on one's ability to argue their case using canon facts and context and what have you - it's about the persuasive nature of one's argument. But at the end of the day, nobody is an "authority" because it runs off the principle that canon is the only authority, and (if you're in curative fandom space) it's all about how closely you can adhere/align to the authority of the source text. Nobody has a monopoly over, or the ability to dictate, what canon is or should be - that's the beauty of it. Canon still remains independent, standing separate all on its own, regardless of how individuals interpret or perceive it.

Transformative fandom, in turn, can be rather possessive - which, again, can be fine, fandom is about fun, people are having fun, etc etc. But here's where my confusion re-enters the stage - I totally get the possessive side of things but sometimes the "grey area" seems to enter into the scene once more - and I can't tell if someone is engaging in transformative fandom in a lighthearted possessive way, OR if they really are making an assertion of authority (which, by definition, would be an act of invalidation of others, which one would think would kind of go against the spirit of fandom being a place for everyone to have fun and enjoy themselves).

I guess personally I can be rather "sensitive" to assertions of authority (or seeming assertions of objectivity that seems to contradict canon) if they appear to be serious, made in the realm of Curative Fandom, and wielded in a manner that would invalidate others, as opposed to something lighthearted and free-to-debate (because again, debate is fun for me).

And I guess that's not really "normal" of me(?), just like this lengthy reply of my thoughts likely isn't very "normal" by neurotypical standards hahaha, but this is just some stuff I've been mulling over and I wanted to put it out there - I have identified these areas that I can struggle over the ambiguity of sometimes, and I guess I saw this as an opportunity to try and write down my thoughts. And I honestly and earnestly trust that you would understand the seeming lack of neurotypical-ness of it all, too. Because, obsessive little fan that I am, I am very passionate and invested when it comes to this stuff. I am passionate and invested when it comes to canon.

One result of my approach to fandom that I've found in turn is that I can really tend to seem/be rather contrarian - that's because I like to examine new angles of things, so if something becomes really prominent/accepted in fanon, I'm often not really invested in upholding it - I love to ask "and what other possibilities are there?" because Canon, to me, is a fountain of possibilities, of sorts. I like to have fun exploring, because to settle on only one thing can feel unnecessarily limiting, but refusing to go along with a consensus may be liable to just get me interpreted as a fun-killer (and I've tried going along with (lighthearted) consensus before - and I regret it. Not only because it didn't align with my own prior perspective, but I found that by upholding a consensus, it seemed to render invisible other people's viewpoints, and I ultimately didn't want to contribute to that).

I can come across a bit forceful sometimes, and when that happens I find it's because I don't necessarily feel like my perspective is being adequately considered or understood. Plenty of this is On Me, it's just good for me to be aware of and be able to navigate this stuff, I guess. Fandom should be a playground that everyone can take part in.

Part of this was prompted by the "canon doesn't DISPROVE this" point on your chart(?) thing, because I think stuff that can fall under that category is a very wide spectrum, and thus can contribute to a lot of the confusion and sense of ambiguity I've discussed here. i.e. I don't necessarily know what you mean by that, hahaha. Is it about transformative fandom? Curative fandom? Both? Could be anything and everything in-between - and maybe that ambiguity is openly embraced/accepted and intentional on your end, and I'm just someone with an excessive need for clarity (just part of who I am, aha).

Anyway, I know we've touched on some of this stuff before in our previous interactions too. But yeah, I really do see a huge difference between "I am making an authoritative and objective claim" and "I know this is not canon, but I am engaging in transformative fandom" etc etc, and sometimes I cannot tell which of those is the underlying implication, and that can really hinder my understanding and communication. (Those two types itself is an oversimplification, as there can be soo many different shades - you can see that in, say, those tumblr posts of "different types of headcanon" and it lists like 5+ different types and whatnot.)

Now, I definitely believe that the other 2 idiotic Illyrian babies (saying that lovingly 😭) could use more love with fics. Now I also believe the reason is because they are canonically in relationships. And even though I absolutely ADORE Feysand and Nessian, let a girl dream alright 😭

I love all 3 bat boys and I don’t mean to come at anyone with this, but Azriel is definitely the most loved and most written out of the 3 because he is not in a canon relationship yet. So it’s easier for writers to create these “x reader” stories with him.

If you want more fics of a certain character, you can kindly request and wait for the writer to work their magic or simply go down the rabbit holes that we call “tags” and if you’re really desperate (like me for Rhys 😅) you can start to write little drabbles to slowly build up your confidence in writing. But never go after writers who take time out of their day to give us these works of art because you’re not “getting enough,” it’s rude and inconsiderate.

I absolutely agree with you when it comes to a certain difference in amount of fics for Azriel and Rhys and Cass!! I have definitely noticed that as well and been trying to figure out what the reason might be, tho I definitely think that, like you said, the Rhys and Cass being in a relationship does seem like quite a big one - as well as that we don't know as much about Azriel yet? as a writer, that of course offers you a lil bit more freedom, which might be partially why there's more fics written about Az? along with a certain hesitancy occurring on both writer and reader side (that's probably not even something that happens consciously) to write and read about characters with established relationships (regarding which, like you said, let a girl dream 😉). so maybe for those reasons, there's a certain imbalance of content between the batboys?

I don't wanna step on anyone's toes with this either, I'm definitely guilty of having a majority of Azriel fics myself right now (🥴)!! but I do also feel like it is a safe starting point bc Azriel fics generally do a lot better in engagement (which is a whole other thing rn) than maybe Cass or Rhys or other characters sometimes? so I guess that could be another reason

but writing is a rlly personal thing, and we writers do usually write based on inspiration (!!), so - I really don't wanna put this on the writers, bc what you write is absolutely your thing!! and you shouldn't feel pressured to write for anyone just bc there's a lack of fics when maybe you don't feel like writing for them at this moment!! 💞

most active muse :  i go through phases where i'll have a lot of muse for a certain few one week and then lose their voice the next week lol, and a lot of the muses i have are quite selective because their setting/personality is very specific and can sometimes be hard to tap into. generally, i'm always rarin' to go with jeannie, ingrid, lisa, gideon, heidi, vikram, and taher. (now actually getting people to rp with these hoes is the hard part lmao)

experience / how many years : i don't want to talk abt it... jk, i started in 2005 i believe? on myspace mainly and i lurked a few message boards back in the day but never actually used them. i wasn't always roleplaying though, i'd often take long breaks throughout the years, sometimes for months, but it's been a part of my life for a long time! after myspace shut down, i went on to roleplayer.me until 2015 when one day i saw an rpg promo in devon bostick's tag (that name's a blast from the past, i know) and i subsequently made the permanent switch to tumblr :) so you can pretty much consider me a veteran around these parts. i remember the days when people used the cast of one tree hill when it was actually currently airing as fcs (or playbys, as we called them) and every third muse was named seraphina!!!

best experience : i think one of the best times i had on here was during christmas 2015 in the rpg hell state bc it was very active and i had a lot of good storylines going! the best time i had on rp.me was the group verse i had for a knockoff of terra nova called alia terra, which i actually made into an rpg on here and then made a closed verse between lucia and i so we could continue some dino fun! but i did it on rp.me shortly before i made the switch to tumblr so i kinda roll that all into one. i mean don't get me wrong i've had some great experiences on here, and lately have been having an amazing time with my writing partners, new and old, but those two are events that stick out in my mind. and also meeting lucia in 2015 duhhh of course!!!!!!!

rp pet peeves : honestly i don't want to say bc i don't want to hurt anyone's feelings or discourage people from writing with me lmfao, but i'll just say it has to do with dropping articles and using two certain french words 😬😬😬

fluff, angst, or smut : if i could crush up angst and snort it i would. i don't write smut (just a personal choice, not a judgment!) and fluff doesn't really interest me unless there's an undercurrent of angst or toxicity lmaooo, but i'm mostly interested in genre fiction like horror/slasher or sci-fi anyway and angst is kind of a package deal with those topics

plots or memes : i like to start with a general idea and then just kinda improvise. i also don't mind having structed plot points like going from a > b > c but having the freedom to do what we want in between those points. i also have absolutely no issue with changing or adding things as we go along! i'm basically very hype for anything

long or short replies : i'm a wordy bitch! when it comes to replies, i tend to stick with 2-4 for my 'shorter' threads but i have no issue getting up to 5-9 paragraphs if i'm really feeling something. no worries about matching length, btw, as long as it's not egregious like getting a few sentences in response when i wrote you four paragraphs, because i feel that's just rude. i also tend to start out small and get bigger as we go on, since i do like to begin with a general idea and add on from there

time to write : so before i started my current job, i only wrote at night because writing when the sun was up seemed morally wrong lmfao. nowadays, i sometimes write my replies at work on my google drive and then edit/format them once i get home, but that's only when i work alone and it's not super busy, and i actually have writing muse for that day. after work, i'll get on after midnight since i don't get home until late and need to put on my jammies, take off my makeup, eat dinner, and watch some tv. even on my days off, i most likely won't get on until late in the night because my family actually has the audacity to want to see me during the daylight hours 🙄

are you like your muses : i have a lot of muses that share similarities with myself, but i also have muses i have absolutely nothing in common with, like blair the satanic serial killer or lauren the son of a cult leader turned political campaign manager. more than likely they'll have something random from me like also being allergic to penicillin or they drive a buick like i do lmao, but i don't have a muse i would really consider my 'self-insert' character!

I love your fic "He who slays Monsters" And am currently reading chapter 9. I would love to read Buffy coming out to Faith as genderfluid and/or wanting to try out he/him pronouns. The reason behind this is becuase Buffy coming to terms with their gender identity comes a bit too slow for my liking right now, LOL. Not that its negative, I love angst and reading about dysphoria as much as the next girl, but its a bit frustrating rn XD.

Hey, anon, I stared at this ask for a while trying to decide how to answer it. I could point out that unless a fanfic writer specifically asks for criticism (I do not) it's considered rude to send it (and while you did also say a lot of other nice things about my fic, this IS a criticism). I could tell you to go write your own fic. I could point out how it doesn't make any sense at this point in the story for Buffy to do either of those things for a whole host of reasons, but especially because Buffy hasn't had her moment of realization. She kinda has to come out to herself before she can come out to anyone else. I could give a long lecture about how there is already so little trans rep out there, and what is there mostly consists of people who already know they are trans and quite possibly are already out (including a lot of my own fic thus far). So I wanted to write a story for the gender questioning, the people who didn't know until adulthood or who always kind of wondered but chose to ignore it, for people that can't find a label or pronouns that fit, for people who can't even tell whether or not they are trans. Gender identity isn't always clearcut and easy, and our stories deserve to be told too. If you're frustrated just reading it, imagine how frustrating it is living it.

The positive feedback I've gotten on this fic went far beyond what I hoped for when I decided to share it. My readers are loving my fic (pacing included) and most importantly, I'm loving my fic, which is why I write in the first place. I write for me; I share because it might resonate with others. This fic has found its target audience, and it seems that doesn't include you, which is fine. Maybe next time don't click on something clearly tagged "slow burn" if a slow burn isn't your thing? Or if you weren't sure and decided to give my fic a chance, you could've just closed the tab instead of sending me a critique. Maybe you're new to fandom and fic like I am and don't know that this is considered rude. I'm willing to give you the benefit of the doubt here and if that's the case, well now you know, don't do it again!

Hate when I'm reminded of a stupid little trigger, lol. Story time because writing things out calms me a bit.

I was hanging out with my guy last night and when he was walking me home late we saw his buddies (one of which is like a mutual work friend, I know and like all these people, he just knows them better) standing outside their place smoking so we stopped for a bit. They were talking about going to see a movie today and our work friend jokingly asked for permission to have my guy for the day so that the group could go to the movies and I was like "lol, sure, I guess I'll let you have him for a day" or whatever. At this point I was cool with the fact that it looked like I wasn't invited. I don't know these people as well, some of them I've never even directly spoken to, I know I would very much be tagging along with my guy. I'm cool with not being invited, I'd probably go if directly asked but I'm also not going to insert myself into my guy's friend group. Probably never, but ESPECIALLY not when we aren't even really together yet. And frankly I've been hanging out with my guy most days and I have shit to do at home that I've been neglecting and my cats miss me, so I could use a catch-up day.

But then work friend accidentally said the phrase that unleashes every fucking ounce of anxiety in me. "I would invite you, but..."

He said he'd invite me, but I work early so he assumed I'd not want to go to a movie on 5 hours of sleep, kind of with the implication that they'd all be hanging out late after the movie too. I probably go to bed WAY earlier than anyone else there. I wouldn't be one to ask my guy to leave early because I'm getting kinda sleepy or some shit, but fair enough line of thought. It's not a rare phrase, I know. Maybe it's a bit rude to assume literally right in front of the person instead of asking if i wanted to go, but it's usually more of a wording issue than anything else. And maybe you're suppose to correct people when they have the wrong assumption, maybe my anxiety is the problem there too. I don't know.

But growing up autistic and (later) pretty severely mentally ill, I was always in friend groups out of pity or as some kind of joke. I didn't realize it at the time, but I was really bullied growing up in that subtle little way that goes over a kid's head when they're just do gullible and honest and literal. That's all I fucking knew, those were the only "friends" I've ever had. Ever. All my life people have made decisions for me like that, but with double meaning and bad intention. "You should come to this (for entertainment value, so we can make fun of you)!!" and "I would have invited you, but (we don't want you there) it doesn't seem like something you'd be into..." After being told over and fucking over again how stupid I am for taking this shit at face value and not seeing that it was "obvious" lies, I finally had it imprinted into me to see the worst meaning behind it. And now I can't even see another meaning with people that I really do trust.

But I KNOW it isn't logical. Even if I don't trust the guy that said it enough to know for sure that that's not what he meant (and I don't think he'd be one to do that honestly, I just have trust issues and I'm not super close to him) I really honest to god trust my guy and I don't think his friend would slight me in front of him, nor do I think he'd not say anything at all if it was meant to be read like that. Even if it was a dismissive response, I think he would have acknowledged it (with like an "lol, rude" or smth) at least. So I'm pretty sure that, outside of my own anxiety and trauma, it didn't mean anything.

But, fuck, did it hit. It hit hard. I think I masked fine, hopefully? But now it's getting to me a little bit. I'm wondering if the first actual friends I've ever had actually ARE my friends. But what the fuck can I even do about it?

Again, I know it's just that it triggered a little response in me and it isn't actually like that, so I guess I'll just try to talk myself out of it. I could ask my guy about it and request a bit of validation or something, but I really would rather not do that. I don't think he'd be terrible about it, he knows I struggle with that stuff a lot and he'd probably be totally willing to reassure me. But I wouldn't even know how to word it, and then he'd probably end up telling me to come and I think that would make my anxiety worse because EVEN WITH REASSURANCE I would have a creeping anxiety that I was only invited because I caught onto what they were doing and they felt obligated to cover it up by letting me go along. Again, not logical, but anxiety rarely is. And it's over SUCH a little thing that it's fucking embarrassing as hell. This man has heard me vent and seen me have full on meltdowns over being overstimulated or stressed, but that's usually over an accumulation of several very real and actively stressful things. I feel comfortable enough with him, but I do not feel comfortable enough with myself to explain how a very basic phrase hit me so hard because of shit that's happened years ago now.
