Reposting is also when you download or save or screenshot something(such as art) from another website and make a new post with it, particularly without permission and especially without credit("without credit" includes things like "credit to the original artist" or "I found this on [pintrest/google/etc]".)

This mostly applies to art and other people's posts and applies less so to things like screenshotting and reposting tweets or posts on other platforms. And it obviously doesn't apply at all if it's your own post/art/etc.

Basically, reposting in this context is reuploading. Reposting was a [discoursed] thing on twitter too(again, especially with art) but since bsky uses 'repost' the way people used 'retweet' it's worth it to reiterate. Reuploading other people's work is frowned upon. Not just to tumblr but anywhere. Please don't do that.

Apparently it's time to start posting and reblogging How to Tumblr stuff again. Lots of people are hopping from Twitter to Bluesky. A big thing to emphasize is that "repost" is the term bsky uses for "retweet", and we need to educate on the difference between "repost" and "reblog" here on Tumblr. We have so many things saying "don't repost things!" and that might cause confusion now that bsky has entered the game. I'd hate to see people avoiding Tumblr because they got yelled at for something they didn't do, because lingo is different.

I'll start: on Tumblr, "reblog" is sharing the original post on your blog for your followers to see. "Repost" is creating a new post with something you saved or downloaded or screenshoted from someone else's blog, and that's highly discouraged here. Please reblog to share the original so the creator can get the interactions too.

Wow, that's a whole other repost to the one I thought it was going to be, lol. It's been reposted to TikTok once before, and I'm also not surprised this person got it from Reddit, where I doubt I was credited either.

At the end of the day I appreciate the heads up but there's nothing I can really do about it. The most helpful thing anyone can do is to leave comments on the reposts to provide credit,* because if artists ever try and comment then we pretty invariably get attacked. Don't be mean or aggressive, that just builds their animosity towards the artists, but I do think people respond positively to outside pressure to do the right thing 🤷

*Remember to make sure there's enough context - eg. something like "art by @ landegart on Twitter" is more searchable/useful than "artist is Landeg" to someone on TikTok who has no idea who I am haha

I've gotten so burnt out by the lack of respect that some Vtubers/Content creators show to artists that I've decided to follow the "3 Clicks" rule:

"If within 3 clicks off their main platform I can't find the credit to the artist, then I'm never working for/with them." 😤😮‍💨

I will call out each and every single reposter I see because I'm that bitch. Artists already have it so rough trying to get engagement on the platforms they're on so it's a goddamn kick in the fucking teeth when their work is STOLEN and reposted to other places or even on the very platform they're on!

Don't do it. Don't repost someone else's artwork. You need permission and nine times out of ten they don't grant it so you're effectively stealing their work.

It takes literal seconds to find the source. And remember:
