I think the tiny changes people's environments have on their behavior is so interesting. As a personal example (something I just noticed that made me think of it), I lived most of my life at low altitude so I opened lids facing me. Now that I've lived at high altitudes, I open them away from me. It's not something I usually think about anymore, it's just a habit because opening a new can or container that was likely packed down where the air is thicker when you are at a high altitude means there might be a little spatter when you break the seal. So now, regardless of what altitude I'm at because there's no incentive to stop doing it this way, I open everything away from me.
