I've been contemplating why many of the Throuple or "Scogean" fics and meta that I see don't really work for me. This is not intended to target any one author or commenter. This is just my own personal, general opinion.

And I think my main issue is that I look for Throuple fic/meta that specifically deals with the 616, that is, the main comic book, continuity. And, for all that this is where the Throuple is actually canon*, it's actually pretty rare to find fic/meta about this specific dynamic.

(*No one's buying the eleventh hour denial, Marvel)

I think what a lot of Throuple writers don't realize about the 616 continuity is that Scott, Jean and Logan really are not a ship of two well adjusted individuals and their weird self-loathing, feral pet that they've coaxed in from the cold.

That dynamic may work for some of the other continuities, and that's perfectly cool, don't get me wrong, but if we're specifically talking about 616, the dynamic is ultimately very different.

I mean, yes, Logan is Logan. And he's got a lot of trauma and issues under his belt. He's also about 200 years old and has learned a shit ton of coping mechanisms. He's not always friendly, he's not always civilized, and occasionally he's an outright judgmental asshole. But he's mostly figured out his own shit.

Now let's look at Scott Summers and Jean Grey for a minute. The first and best of Xavier's child soldiers.

Jean Grey is the living embodiment of a god, who is constantly dealing with the fact that a loss of control on her part could and has led to billions of deaths. She has to deal with the fact that she dies, a lot and basically every time she comes back it's to a very different world than she left where everyone is yet again in some new bizarre crisis. She's constantly trying to relearn herself, her surroundings, her relationships, and atone for the things done when she'd lost control.

Scott Summers is arguably the more normal of the three. He's not a god or an immortal, right? But this is a man who, in his last canonical nervous breakdown kicked Xavier from the mansion (twice), went from being headmaster of the School, to the benevolent dictator of the entire mutant race, to being an outlaw revolutionary that decorates college dorm rooms Che Guevara style and ended up on the cover of Rolling Stone even as SHIELD, the Avengers, and pretty much every world government wanted him captured or dead. Oh, and he thought it was a great idea to try to teach a new batch of students in the fucking left over WEAPONS X facility.

He's a little more stable now, admittedly. I'm not quite sure what to make of the whole outsourcing his moral accountability to his wife bit. But I'm sure the panic attack and the fact that he's now living in an abandoned Sentinel factory are not something we really need to worry about.

Obviously, everyone is going to have their own read on the throuple, but to me, the throuple is less two well adjusted people with their poor feral friend, and more one somewhat sane old dude who is dating a tormented goddess, and a modern version of Alexander the Great perpetually on the verge of a psychotic break.

I'm just saying, in the 616 continuity, LOGAN is the well-adjusted one.

As far as the appearance thing goes, I guess I never really thought about it? I have designs for all the canon characters (if not physically than mentally) and Helios and Sun look nothing alike for my designs that I use for the show. I get that's harder to convey with models and such, so I think a good idea is to go off the thumbnails because Helios looks different than Sun in there too.

1): this one was a hard choice as I don't interact with most of the community, my experience with the fandom is the 'early' fandom (2014 - 2017 era ish). But MANGLE. I have my own headcanon of them and everyone else is WRONG. Mangle is aro ace, Mangle is upset about being broken, BUT DOESN'T ANGST. MANGLE IS HAPPY WITH BEING SCRUNGLY. Sure canon it's: I don't like kids breaking me >:(

But like, I feel like they'd have a shit ton of confidence after being broken... If we're assuming this is the mascot character and not some soul possessing them (sos FNAF lore).

6): EXCLUDING PROSHIPS.... ((Disclaimer I'm not big in the FNAF community again, I don't interact very often)), but every time I interact with shipping I get the most bad vibes from Foxy x Mangle. Sure I do headcanon Mangle as aroace ((because it's correct/j)), but I don't like this ship's fandom because their bible—while iconic. IS WRONG. MANGLE SHOULDN'T BE FIXED!! MANGLE LIKES BEING CHAOS INCARNATE!!! MANGLE BITES KIDS.

The fans seem to like Mangle being fixed. While I can see it being compelling, I have my own personal reasons for disliking it. This isn't in the media, but like. I don't like a character being perceived as broken, sure Mangle is literally broken but. C'mon. Mangle is fine as is.

How I feel about this character

I think her powers are pretty badass, and she's very regal and elegant. That said, sometimes she really rubs me the wrong way. I like her, but at other times - and mind you, this is comic Storm, not movie Storm - such as when she told Bobby that he was worthless and useless and she didn't understand why Charles ever gave him a chance, that just really pissed me off. He'd already been struggling for years with his self-esteem, not understanding how he fit into the X-Men, worried that he was never useful to the team, etc, and then she vomits this bullshit on him, and while that was still post-AvX, and I wasn't thrilled with the characters who were shitting on Scott and Emma post-AvX (and unfortunately for a while Bobby and Kitty were among the ones being assholes to them), I still thought her comment was a low blow. And for as pissed off as I was at Logan through that whole mess, I thought her superiority bullshit telling Logan "I didn't give you permission to leave the school" (while he was without his healing mutation) was way out of line. So, I guess all that to say I have a pretty love-dislike relationship with her a lot of the time. In the comics, at least. In the movies, I mostly like her. I mean, she's the better of the two adult women X-Men. All the people I ship romantically with this character

T'Challa, though that never works out for her. Definitely Thor, though I haven't written it yet myself, but they'd be a good ship. I think I'd ship her with Warren - there was something in X-Men Evolution where they had some really good chemistry. That's about it, though. I know she's got a canon thing with Logan, but I'm not fond of them as a relationship dynamic, nor am I really fond of the shippy dynamic they've always hinted at with her and Kurt. My non-romantic OTP for this character

Honestly, Scott Summers. I think, when she's not got her panties in a twist over his leadership, they've got a really good working friendship and partnership. I don't like it when she acts like a bitch to him when he's not focusing all his attention on Jean - that's just bullshit and none of her business, but otherwise, when they're getting along really well, they're a powerhouse of teammates who can get shit done. My unpopular opinion about this character

I really think that she lets that "goddess" thing get to her head too much of the time. One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon.

Movie'verse, I wish she could've shone a lot brighter than Jean. But then I hate Jean with a fiery passion that will never change, and in the movies, Jean and Logan were the bright shining ones that everyone else paled next to, and it was gross. Storm deserved to shine a lot more in the movies than they let her.

Comic'verse, I really wish they'd quit making her slum it with Logan. I like Logan (most of the time), but they only tend to hook up when he's not chasing Jean (so Storm becomes a consolation prize when he can't be with the redheaded menace) or when he's not in tons of panels with Scott.

my ultimate favorite character™:

At the end of the day it's Luffy, isn't it? No matter how dearly I love anyone else, my heart always comes back to the best boy, oh captain my captain, I'd literally sail into hell for him. I think there's just something so beautifully, tenderly, viciously human about him, no matter where the story takes him, and I can't give the top spot to anyone else. There are lots of facets and contexts to which love and interest can be attributed and in other contexts the list might look different, but in terms of overall, objective favorites? It's Luffy forever. <3

Genuinely not sure how to choose between Ace and Sanji and Law for this one. There are TON of like really really gorgeous people in this series by like varying metrics of attractiveness, but these three are like. The prettiest people I've ever seen, like. Got me on the actual floor every day, they're just breathtaking.

I've got a couple of different answers for this bc it feels like I need to. Blackbeard, for literally everything he's done. Garp, for not being able to summon enough fucking humanity to tell a 10 year old that it's okay for him to exist, and that he isn't guilty of the sins of his father. Doflamingo, although this one is complicated by how interesting and necessary to the story I feel he is (juxtaposed with Blackbeard, who is v necessary to the story but is a spineless little cowardly worm that I'd like to squish with my shoe. 0/10 not interesting also killing him with beams).

Usopp. For the most part it's because I find him incredibly frustrating, even now in the post-time skip era where he's undergone all his New World Training and Preparation I just. Maybe it's envy, to a degree, that he's on this incredible adventure with all these people that love him and he grits his teeth and drags his feet and is cowardly about like. Every aspect of a story I'd kill to be a part of lmao. I don't know. I've warmed up to him considerably over the course of the story, and I'm very glad he's there and he plays an important role in the friend group but like. He also makes me insane sometimes.

I'm in the same age range as most of the newer fans, but seeing how they act infuriates me. I've liked Invader Zim since sometime in 2009. I engaged with the fandom in 2015/2016. Even at the age I was then, I knew ZADR was the brunt of tons of awful hate for no real reason, and when I return to the fandom and revisit the series in this year? It's the same shit, just with a new hat. It's not that these new fans are beyond learning and understanding things, they just don't want to. 1/2

They don't care enough about the series to do so and even those we do really care only acknowledge certain parts of the truth while disregarding everything else. It's a shitshow THEY started and they will stop caring about it after like a month when the hype train surrounding the series dies. It happens every time something gets popular here and very few times is the hatred surrounding one specific ship in a fandom truly valid while other worse ships get to fester on with no complaints. 2/2

Honestly I guess it’s just the curse of Tumblr, people just want to be pissy about everything that may or may not be remotely problematic—and since it’s had trouble for as long as it’s existed, why not ZaDr ig? I can’t really speak about it myself bc I’ve been here for literally two and a half weeks—I was too young when the series came out, couldn’t watch shows like that, didn’t really get involved too heavily in actual fandoms until the last couple of years, etc etc. But reading the discourse is like, wow, this whole thing is really ridiculous. JV obviously loves to troll the fans and start shit (I totally respect him as a creator but the guy is such an ass), this is a ship that has been around for longer than a lot of these newbies have existed, and whining on Tumblr about it is not gonna change anything ??? Especially since most of them...turn around and ship ZaPMr...which is just,,,,,,,,,,,,it bothers me sm (tho since Dib is PM’s clone...well. irony.)

Also why do they only complain about ZaDr? What about ZaGr (which ??? JV himself would’ve made canon if romance fit in the series ???? hello???)? TaGr? TaDr (is that a thing)? Like it’s SO obvious that JV has carried his homophobic trolling about it into the new era and just turned it into something different to rile people up about a ship he hates, but everything else is apparently still okay (after all I don’t see blogs with “ZaGr do not interact” plastered everywhere)

If these newbies are looking for some good wholesome purity whatever they’re already in the wrong place. IZ is so dark and twisted there’s no purifying it already. Hey, first of all, I'm not even in the Supergirl fandom and have no idea how different parts of the fandom interact, but what are your thoughts on the original song that was sang by Jeremy Jordan and most of the cast(I think)? Because I honestly don't think it's right to mock an LGBT+ ship regardless of what *some* of the shippers are like, and it just came off as blatantly rude to me. But the point is – we are all different, we have differentexperiences, different things make us laugh or offended. Some of us will laughat the same thing that others will find offensive. Ok, now becauseyou are not in the fandom, I think you need a bigger picture and the context tounderstand what REALLY happened.

Supergirlcast is constantly harassed by the Supercorp (Lena x Kara, FF ship) fans forMONTHS now. What I mean when I say “harassed”? Few examples.

RahulKholi, a POC actor, you may know him from IZombie, a wonderful, sweet, amazingguy played Lena’s love interest for ONE ep. Supercorp fandom sent him on hissocial media the most awful racist shit you can imagine. A “haired ape” was notthe worst. The “go away, Lena belongs to Kara” were normal. Shit he got was soawful that he called Supercorp shippers “fan hooligans” in recent interview.Yesterday he got shit from them again.

Next,Melissa Benoist, the main heroine. For months she didn’t really talk aboutships. All she said was, that she wants Kara to be happy. That’s it. But youknow what Supercorp fans have been doing? Interesting things. Like, questioningMelissa’s SEXUALITY and wanting her to be with, yes you guessed, Katie (aka Lena).That her relationship with her current boyfriend, who plays her love interestin the show, is just a PR. That she could do much, much better than him, evenif I haven’t seen her so happy and careless in months. That she is very unhappywith Kara’s arc and she wants Supercorp but shows runners banned her fromsaying what she really wants.

And now,let’s move to Chris, Melissa’s guy. This man lost his father to a mentaldisease, because of it he became an activist who tries to make people aware ofthis kind of problems. He is lgbt community and black lives matter movementsupporter. Basically, it’s hard to find valid things to hate on this guy. Butso far, Supercorp fans: sent him deaththreats, said how much they want him dead, how he steals the screen time,how he is useless in the show, how horrible actor he is, how the whole casthates him, how he uses his relationship with Mel to stay in the show; makes grossjokes about his appearance, constantly twist his words and take them out of thecontext to make him look rude. They planned to corner him on SDCC and encouragedpeople to boo him and asked uncomfortable questions. I talked with a friend whoknows this kind of things and who said Chris was nervous in the beginning ofsdcc and the whole cast was supporting him. Cool, huh? He suspected what was coming,but thank God that to the SDCC go real fans, not fanatic shippers. I mean,every celebrity receive shit like that, but he gets TONS of it and only becausehe is an obstacle for a ship. There is no other reason.

Jeremy? Leftsocial media for some time, because he had enough of harassment.

Katie? Doesn’thave social media. Too bad her brother has – poor guy was catfished by a,surprise, supercorp fan.

Things likethat are happening for MONTHS. So, I guess the fact the cast has absolutelyenough of shit like this is not so surprising and they are tired of beingsilent. So, they made a joke song about how Supercorp is and will be friends.Nothing more. That’s it. Some people may think it was mocking and offendingLGBT community but, seriously? The cast just clearly said there is NO queerbaitingin the show. That’s the whole crime.

But youknow interesting thing? Few minutes before that song Melissa said that PEOPLECAN SHIP WHATEVER THEY WANT. That includes Supercorp. So, this is seriouslyhomophobia? And you know, I’m confused. There is a lesbian couple in the show –Sanvers. A real and CANON LESBIAN COUPLE supported by the cast and the showrunners. But I got an impression that dear Supercorp shippers don’t give aflying shit, because more important is their crack ship. Sorry, I’m not sorrybut the whole “we Supercorp shippers are offended because a lesbian couple wasbashed and we support and protect lesbian ships” is… an excuse for hating oncast and showing how they are upset, because thing they want won’t happen.

And now thebest. Have you seen what Supercorp shippers so far sent to the cast after theSDCC drama? How they started slutshaming Melissa? How they say she should slither wrist? How she cheated on her husband to hook up with Chris? How she is atypical white fake feminist and let’s fuck her? How she and members of the castare cancelled? Friendly reminder she, Jeremy and Chris support lgbt rights.Actively. They don’t sit in front of the computers “supporting” lgbt by shippingfictional couples and posting shit on social media. They help. But it’s allcancelled because of one, damned joke.

Iunderstand that peoples’ feelings were hurt. But the shit that cast isreceiving right now is 1000 times more horrible and gross than a song about twofictional female characters being friends. I know, they could do it in adifferent way. But I feel like they reached their limits.

Few morethings. Supercorp fans claim that Katie was uncomfortable during that song. It’sa bullshit. She laughed her ass off and not because everyone were laughing, butbecause she found it funny.

Supercorpfans throw tantrums on social media, their posts about this issue are reachinga lot of notes, because “let’s protect lgbt people from bad homophobes”. Theproblem is – they don’t tell the whole story. And secondly, I saw a lot ofpeople who claim they don’t watch the show and don’t know the whole story butare there to fight with homophobia. And it’s wrong. People knowing half-truthsfrom one biased side of the conflict are shitting on innocent people who areFAR from being homophobic. Supercorp fandom, because they are salty, are makingFUN of the real homophobia problem.

And I knowthat a lot of people really felt offended or felt triggered. But it doesn’t givethem rights to spread horrible, gross lies and throw awful shit at real people.

Hi...I just saw the last ep and I... really don't feel fine. :((( Once again no Fitzsimmons... x( How the hell did we end up there? with this insignificant on-screen time. I want season 1 Fitzsimmons' screentime back, 10min of them by episode talking, doing science, bickering even being happy for a change. I'm down with the dark tone, dark theme, dark whatever... dark is definitely not better!!They are the "jewel" of this show since the beginning (1)

and I really don’t understand the idea of diminishing “them” even more every freaking season. It’s worse than season 2 how the hell did it happen? I don’t want to wait 15ep every year to get something “good”, when did this become the norm and a good idea!?!? It’s bad and terrible writing. :/ And I don’t care about them having individual stories for a long time now, we already saw that and it was not the time to do that anyway. 

And the frustration was on when they would get their shit together and be together. They have passed that point now, so this artificial frustration they create makes no sense and they make it last. They work together for over a decade and they know each other by heart, their qualities, their flaws and even probably every mood, every breath almost everything of each other and now just like by “magic” their work is a problem in their relationship, it’s total non-sense

And I’m down rationalizing it to make it works, it just legitimates the writers’ choices and it is plenty wrong, they need to know that it’s all crap, and that some people are angry and sad and etc. Jemma’s statement on the lack of Fitz felt like a finger from the writers, and I don’t even want to talk about the generalization on men that I’ve read… :(I don’t want fiction to be “life-like”, life is an ice cold shitty desert, fiction is my escape plan, and Fitzsimmons are better and deserve better than that. They are my hope and light and I don’t want their relationship to be off-screen, there is no point in that.I feel so empty and sad and desperate… and I’m actually crying writing this message, and this is so completely the opposite of what I had expected to feel for when they got together… :’(( And worse than that I feel like I betray/failed the show, failed THEM by not loving the show anymore.:’(

I am sorry to hear how frustrated you are. And I want to sincerely apologize if my metas are contributing to this.  By nature I am what my family calls a ‘fixer’ and I try to make everyone happy and put a positive spin on things.  

EVERYONE is entitled to their own opinion and feelings on things.  You have every right to feel upset, betrayed, and frustrated right now.  We were downright misled by Jed.  I know I do.  I waited a LONG time for Fitzsimmons to be canon, I couldn’t wait to see what that would look like, and needless to say what we’ve seen hasn’t been what anyone expected.   

This is my escape too, you all have no idea how much being on here, answering asks, chatting, and doing metas has helped me these last few months of recovery.  And its hard when that escape causes stress or isn’t an escape anymore.  

As hard as it is not to get the shippy moments I was hoping for I really did enjoy the last episode.  Jemma had an awesome episode.  Fitz had an awesome episode.   And I want to support them as individual characters as them as a couple  Because, yes, Lil and Iain are the heart of the show.  Fitz and Simmons are the heart of the team..  I think Iain  especially has a very strong arc coming with LMD and the Radcliffe fall out.  I personally (my opinion) would rather see them dealing with angst on individual arcs rather  and real couple issues than a ton of angst in their relationship in order to give them more screen time.  Because AOS is not a romance driven show, is a very small component of everything else going on.  We see little from most couples after they get together.  We’ve gotten more Fitzsimmons shippy stuff after they got together than StaticQuake did, and that ship had one of the shows main characters in it.  

That is not to say this is all okay.  Relationship frustration being part of the story or no, the writers could “throw us a bone” at some point, take 2 seconds to assure the fandom and give us something to buoy us until the next time they can be together.  We got a fantastic one in 07, despite them hardly seeing each other.  For me 07 was a very strong episode in terms of FItzsimmons as we got validations from EVERYONE else at how much they meant to each other.  .

I did THIS post yesterday that gave me a lot of peace of mind.  That while months have passed for us, in terms of the characters less than a week has gone by.  Fitzsimmons have barely had time to sleep, let alone sit down and talk about the love nest and hurt feelings from having to hide AIDA.  

The other thing I know is at this point in the season

I look at where we were this time in B.  I did a lot of asks then.  A lot of people where we are now.  Mad, frustrated, and feeling hopeless that we’d get Fitzsimmons together.  We didn’t get the aftermath of Maveth I’d envisioned, no good conversations or discussions of feelings.  There they hardly had screen time as they set up Huntingbirds departure.  Heck  I am sure some on here were ready just to deck me when I kept saying be patient, it will happen.  And the BIG difference we had in B vs now is we don’t have that carrot.  In B we had the undercover pic that told us something good was coming.  Because it came back later we had the cast doing cons and we got talk of kisses (present and plural) to help us too. 

So I’m going to say now what I did then.   Hang in there good things will come.  Pain and suffering now means that something good will be coming.  I can’t say when this time, but something good is coming.  They are aware of how important this ship is to the show.  They are on social media they see/get the tweets demanding more.  They know what spoilers are being shared and asked at the entertainment sites.  And I know some from the show pop onto Tumblr.  They set up the ‘separation frustration’ for a reason.  And like Space BF was one contrived roadblock too far they are getting to the point where the the separation frustration has reached a breaking point too.  

We get them at the very least in the same room next week.  We see them in the lab with Talbot.  Don’t get hopes up too high, but they MIGHT be at the base ‘alone’.  And just because they get a scene together it doesn’t mean its going to be a super happy one.  They still have issues to work out surrounding AIDA.  But at least one of them isn’t lost in the woods with Mace, Mack, and Coulson. May and Daisy were on the Quin Jet.  Daisy, Coulson, Mack, and I expect Mace are at that speech  That’s not to say one or both don’t have to head out later but they will at least get some time together. 

This season feels like its been going for a long time and it has.  I personally feel this is contributing to the frustration factor.  All the breaks thanks to the election and holiday and we only have 9 eps in the books, that leaves 13 episodes to go.  Plenty of time for Fitzsimmons stuff.  This point last season we had just hit Closure…and look how far we came after Closure.  Every season has had at least one really good, solid, Fitzsimmons episode.  Season 1 FZZT (6), Season 2 Afterlife (16), and Season 3 The Singularity (18) are a few examples.  All came at different points in the season….though the last two were more in the back half.

I hope everyone knows my opinion and takes on this are my own.  I put out metas, theories, answer asks and hope they help others.   But I don’t expect anyone to feel the same way I do about story lines. Just because I enjoy one doesn’t mean you have to too.  Just as just because I have gotten to a okay place with the separation/frustration doesn’t mean you still can’t be upset with it.  Everyone enjoys and watches for different reasons.  I completely adore Fitzsimmons as a couple and want to see more of it but I am also enjoying them having their own story lines and am excited to see the Fitz/Radcliffe one play out.  

I don’t know if my rambling helps at all but you do what you need to do to take care of yourself and I don’t know who you are but you are a valued member of the fandom and would hate to lose you.
