A little kid and his mother are trick or treating in another city, perhaps at some kind of event rather than knocking on doors, and the kid is dressed as Phantom. It’s very adorable, with his little ghost-shaped bucket and clearly homemade and already stained costume—listen, white only works if you can just fly over street grime or phase it out of your clothes—and his slightly I’ll fitting wig. The kid is SO happy to be out and about dressed as his favorite, and maybe even showed it off to Phantom back in Amity Park before his family left.

The hero, insert whoever you wish here, is probably in civvies and just enjoying the event. The kid, meanwhile, is so glad when people ask who he is so he can explain, and so- the hero gets to hear ALL ABOUT the local town hero who is probably pretty small time despite the kid’s clearly exaggerated stories. The hero certainly never heard of him, but the kid’s mom confirms that Phantom really was the town hero, despite some mixed reviews of the poor guy.

“Did you manage to show him your costume?” the hero asks.

“Yeah! We went down to the cemetery to leave flowers and I got to show him my costume.”

Wait. Cemetery? Maybe it was part of theme, because Phantom had to be named that for a reason, but… it sounded like…

The kid ignores the suddenly VERY still hero and instead turns to his mom. “Momma, do you think we should bring him candy? He doesn’t get to trick or treat like we do, and I can work super hard to get him a bunch!”

The kid’s mom just smiles. “We could, but maybe we should bring him something homemade. I bet he’d like something more filling, teen boys like him have a hollow leg.”

The kid wrinkles his nose. “Like Vernie with the pizza bagels?”

“Like your cousin, yes. We can make some cinnamon rolls and take them to his memorial, maybe bring some of the apples from your grandpa’s garden…”

The hero is pretty much forgotten as the two-part family wanders off, not quite intentionally forgetting the hero is there so much as the hero somewhat accidentally ended the conversation when they just froze and didn’t ask anything further.

Not that the hero didn’t want to. But they’d learn something very serious.

One—there was a small town hero they’d never heard of. Two—that hero was apparently a teen. Third—most pressingly, the teen hero was both beloved enough to have kids dressing up as him and dead enough to have a grave.

This… might require some phone calls.

someone else type it for me i’m too tired. something something i just think it’s not only goofy it’s also very 🧐 to think that brienne’s story, where she is barred from things that are considered womanly pursuits such as being a wife & mother and deciding that if she isn’t allowed to Be A Woman than she will be the best Not A Man Either she can possibly be, is a story that is going to be answered with “and a man like hule hunt is the best she’ll ever do so it’s better to stay a sad virgin for the rest of her life.” i think that’s depressing & also really ignores how horny george is. it also ignores the on page, not even subtextual, fact that brienne & jaime do in fact want to fuck. i think a story in which brienne grapples with both the complex morality of Being A Man (ie what a true knight is) and Being A Woman, where she has sex out of wedlock with a man the entire kingdom hates, and finds herself frequently distracted by longing to be with him again is a storyline that is better and also, ya know, makes more sense!

PART 2 Into The Shadows is coming out tonight. Yesterday was stupid and I couldn’t get the words to word the way I wanted😒😒😒

Here’s a snippet to hold y’all over till tonight! This chapter is gonna do most of the world building while hopefully kickstarting the rest of the series. Gonna chuck some info at y’all and then I’m gonna skedaddle into the actual story. I’m probably gonna add more chapters… sighhhhhhhhh.

Maybe he went back to wherever it is he comes from? You hope he did. You checked all the boarded windows on the first floor and all that leaves is just the back door. It’s boarded up over the glass panels but you can still peek in it if you focus your vision to see through the cracks. Shoving the table unceremoniously away, you take a breather and move your head in close. You look out to the right and see your garden. Your veggies are sprouting peacefully, oblivious to their gardener that is panicking behind the door. You look over to your left to see the garden table and chairs that you have sat at from time to time. The fencing that still needs fixing but it looks normal to your eyes.

Hmm… “Everything looks normal?” You breathe out, your worry slowly disappears when you recheck those spots. There is one place that you haven’t yet looked at. The woods. The density of the trees can hide them unless you look closely. Goosebumps prickle at your skin, a subtle begging from the trees wanting you to look at them closer with how the leaves sway. As if the branches are waving to you, trying to point you in the right direction.

ongoing. kind of a tragicomic take on the dance, an au where alicent convinces the small council to put aegon aside as heir, wed aemond to rhaenyra, and install aemond as king as a way of protecting rhaenyra from being killed. it’s excellent and hilarious. technically more pro blacks, but it's not really anti anyone on team green except criston and the lannisters (the rhaenyra/aegon dynamic is sublime). focuses a lot on gender, sex, and cultural dynamics. currently my favorite fic actually, i'm obsessed with it.

ongoing. au where aegon ii reincarnates just as he’s crowned to try to redo the dance. surprised me by going the aegon/aemond/helaena route romance wise (which is the best route), and i like all the politicking in it. less “pro green” than it is “pro aegon, helaena, aemond, and daeron getting extensive therapy” & it’s kind of a mix between show & book canon. really delves into the "can they actually avoid the dance" question.

Breakbones and the Dragonrider by beneathawesternsky

romantic fic that started as an exploration of the rhaenyra/harwin relationship and morphed into an au where they wind up married. very cute, very romantic, love the supporting characters in it, and the way house strong is characterized as a northern house pre-harrenhal and all the “aegon’s vision” stuff in it.
