“Free Man in Paris” Previews Joni Mitchell’s Remastered Shadows and Light
Joni Mitchell’s master jazz band is remastered on “Free Man in Paris.”
Recorded live Sept. 9, 1979, and originally released on Shadows and Light, it finds Mitchell playing alongside bassist Jaco Pastorius, guitarist Pat Metheny, keyboardist Lyle Mays, saxophonist Michael Brecker and drummer Don Alias and flipping the table on which the song sat.
Any improvement from the original is negligible and likely to be heard only by audiophiles with extra-sympathetic ears. That said, any excuse to revisit Mitchell’s jazz period is a good one.
“Free Man is Paris” follows similar sonic spit shines gives to “Coyote” and “Dry Cleaner from Des Moines” ahead of the June 21 release of the Asylum Albums (1976-1980).

Joni Mitchell - Mingus (1979)

John McLaughlin has quite a career as we've seen from most of our talks on his career that continues to astound us with a high amount of versatility for a jazz player. Thus, should the fact he collaborated with Carlos Santana shock us? No, that sounds quite plausible, though the end result might give us a pause, i.e. the disc is more like a McLaughlin joint with Santana as a very special guest. Of course, he does make his presence shown, but I'm not surprised their LP was something Santana's fans weren't ready to tackle. I mean, Mr. Santana has one of the most peculiar opuses for something who is predominantly seen as a rock guitarist as he is much more interesting than Supernatural would've lead you believe.

Best part of hsr being a space game hands-down has to be the complete disregard for ‘normal’ human anatomy/functions. Every planet has different living conditions, so it’s entirely possible that a “human” from the xianzhou could have entirely differing adaptations and anatomical buildups as a citizen from Belobog. I think it’s fascinating to delve deeper into those sort of things and play with the idea of uniquely shaped genetic makeup for a bit.
**SPOILERS:**
Case in point; Sampo Koski. More or so my personal interpretation of him as Jarilo VI’s “alien.” Because *woah* he’s a weird guy — and I’d like to amplify that based off my portrayal of him. Whether he’s an artificial being gifted to the tb as an apology from aha, a native of kalevala, or a being directly tied to the elation itself, in the eyes of a Belobogian citizen … he’s a force from another world. Quite literally an ALIEN. Which is funny at the prospect that gepard carries a Dib-level drive to apprehend this guy due to his ability to break reality for the sake of gags.
His ahoge? Yeah, that’s an actual antennae which emotes and adds to his inhumanly strong perception. Diamond-shaped pupils are like that of prey, where the shape is crucial for an animal to see at all angles for, again, enhanced perception. His outfit is due to complete cold resistance, and his diet doesn’t affect muscle tone at all. Fuck it. He breaks dimensional law. Elation.
Literally anything is on the table atp bc he’s not even from Belobog. It’s his home, sure, but his genetics do not match that of a Belobogian.
#mainly why I love sampard so much // it’s literally just zim and dib with extra steps but if zim genuinely helped struggling people#gepard being a normal human and sampo an inhuman being that finds fascination with his humanity#loves the prospect of living a ‘normal life’ and donning the alias sampo Koski to live amongst the people#hell it’s funny as shit to think that sampos capable of shattering reality he just happens to fucking love money LOL#my interp of him in my art is this I am a firm inhuman!sampo truther idk what. but there’s is something Off about that man#hsr sampo#hsr gepard#hsr

really wish the twisted metal games weren't mostly like "loool sweet tooth is marcus' Murderous Violent Scary Split Personality lolololol" (not that i can expect a gritty dark comedy vehicular combat game series from the 90s to treat this sort of stuff with any kind of tact) cus i'm actually really intrigued by how sweet tooth seems to view the mask as an embodiment or personification of himself. like in the 2012 game he refers to the mask as "me"--like he's inseparable from it and vice versa. i wonder how he views himself without it, whether he's recognisable or feels any kind of positivity towards the person who exists without it, whether he can still see himself or only see marcus and his past. i'm not immune to characters who center their identity around one specific thing and then feel lost without it
#i like the changes they made with marcus and sweet tooth in the tv series#marcus' past is still pretty bonkers but sweet tooth being an alias marcus donned#when the world went to shit is infinitely better than fucking.#Scary Evil Murder Alter or Guy Who Murdered Whole Family Cus He Hated His Quiet Life#like. come on man#they actually gave him a kind of sympathetic reason for why he killed his parents#being that he wanted them to feel as alone and neglected as they made him feel#twisted metal#chit chat#text

imagine you’re dating ghost and no one knows. the two of you have kept it a secret on your end and his just for your protection— because ghost knows what could happen if someone finds out, how someone might try and target you to get to him, or worse, given his line of work.
but then imagine that he’s on a mission, interrogating some piece of filth ready to decorate the fucking wall with his brain matter when the guy says “you know what, simon, killing me would be the biggest mistake of your life.”
immediately ghost would pause, eyes narrowed, though his hardened demeanour wouldn’t fade much, he’d just blankly stare at the prick like “oh yea? n’ why don’ you tell m’ why.”
the shit-eating grin that would crawl across that fuckers lips would have ghost ready to kill him right then and there, but then he’d say “reach in my pocket. pull out my phone.”
id like to think ghost would have absolutely none of this assholes bullshit, not at all entertained by his theatrics. i’d like to think he’d just press the muzzle of his gun to the fuckers temple within an instant, all teeth barred and ready to get it over with when the guy would add,
“your girlfriend is a fucking beauty, isn’t she?”
everything would pause. ghost, time, the world, air, the universe itself—the life that would drain from ghosts face would almost be enough to make his alias a reality. his heart pounding in his throat, his fingers fucking trembling as he immediately reached into the assholes pocket to find his phonea picture of a woman tied up (face not in view however) lighting up on the home screen. there’d be no thinking rationally, no thoughts in ghosts head except for making sure you were fucking okay. he’d do whatever he’d have to do, kill the guy, leave him strapped there, whatever—he’d be out of that room in two seconds flat and personally flying the helicopter back to your house calling you nonstop every fucking second until you answered.
“hello? si?”
he’d wait a second before answering. taking everything in. background noises, the inflection of your voice. it sounds calm, maybe too calm? he’s grasping his phone so fucking hard it’s a miracle it hasn’t shattered between his fingers.
“princess,” he breathes, fighting with everything in him to keep his voice steady. “see any birds today?”
though it was a genuine question, it also was an established one. ghost had set up a series of questions for a situation precisely like this. if you said blue jay, it meant you were fine, at home, as usual. if you said crows, it meant you weren’t.
“oh just the usual blue jays, si.” he could almost hear the smile on your lips. “everything okay? i miss you.”
ghost would exhale a shattered breath. “i’m coming home.”
and then he’d show up, not all but a few hours later, hands still trembling slightly, heart rate still struggling to regulate. it was too much, reminding him too much of his past traumas, he knew he needed to find better protection for you, but that was a conversation for another time.
he’d come in the house, barely even taking the time to shut the door behind him, almost frenzied again, relentless, unable to relax until he could finally lay eyes on you. and then, the second he did, he’d just pause and look at you, all messy hair and pyjamas still on, in the kitchen cooking breakfast for you both since you knew he was on his way.
and he wouldn’t say a goddamn word, he’d just come up behind you and wrap his arms around your waist, hugging you so tight you’d hardly be able to breathe, his face buried in your hair and his heart thumping at your back. you’d feel the pain the fear the anxiety radiating off him and you wouldn’t try to say anything because you knew he needed this, you knew he needed to see you, hold you, feel your pulse stable and alive. you knew he just needed a moment to breathe.
and so the two of you would stand there like that for a while, and then he’d take a big inhale and spin you around to face him, pulling up his mask to plant soft kisses on your jaw.
“i love you so fuckin’ much.”
