Light brushing L's hair every morning

L can't sleep for more than 2 hours at a time unless he's in bed with Light

Light's favorite blanket is the red and pink heart blanket L bought him their first Valentine's Day together

Light learns to bake and makes L a special cake on his birthday

L always makes time in the evening to spend with his husband no matter how serious the case

They both learn that they love the domesticity of living and aging together (something neither would have thought)

They adopt a cat Light loves them more but the cat still prefers L

Post handcuffs they made each other friend ship bracelets (to counteract the nakedness they felt without the cuffs) they wore them until they fell off L still has his he considers it his most prized possession

thinking about what was going through L’s mind as he lay in bed, the same night that light and him were in the helicopter.

after insisting at every turn that the brilliant teenage boy smiling before him had to be kira, was — no, is forever kira, he finally can look into light’s eyes and see what he always knew was there.

a murderer, a sociopath, a villain, a liar. yes, everything has gone to plan. light is kira; kira is light.

the boy he has spent the last few months monitoring, mapping, and mythologizing, is kira.

kira is the boy who has watched L type genius nonsense on his computer in the dark, shared a fourth of the key lime tart that watari served after misa and matsuda returned alive, listened to L babble 19th century french poetry when progress had slowed to an unbearable crawl.

yes, light is all that and a million other dirty things, packed tight and wound up in the shape of a classical greek statue, an eighteen year old boy, japan’s top student.

kira.

that thought should bring him joy. satisfaction. relief, even, that his deductions would never miss their mark. and it does. elation lights L up on the inside, or perhaps on the outside going in, like being doused in water and feeling it sink into his bones.

it’s wonderful, it’s horrible; he didn’t know warmth could feel so cold.

because at the quite literal end of the day, this is what he’s been chasing, isn’t it? his culprit, his criminal, his killer.

so why, when sharing a bed with him, inches from his skin and from exposing the truth, does L want to see light within those eyes again?

he reminds himself its ridiculous. they aren’t separate entities, like a parasite and its host. rather, one incorrigible unit, a package deal, something he signed up for at the start. a plant with rot already spreading through its roots that L simply had to deliver back into the soil.

he’s never really had a green thumb, anyways.

gnawing on his nail, L rolls over in their bed, observing the light-shaped god slumbering in total darkness. kira is so pale that his skin brightens the night. his breathing shakes the earth and breaks waves beneath L’s skin.

so the world’s greatest detective decides to shift a little closer. and recites heart attack symptoms in his head until he falls asleep.

Love it when I see Lawlight stories exploring how their love is a subversion to the concept of love as a whole. Like how L's love for Light wasn't enough to make Light turn good (subverting love conquers all)

Or how their love started messy and filled with mutual hatred (subverting love at first sight).

Or how their love is anything but rainbows and domesticity (it's ugly and a mess and broken and complicated, just like them.)

Inkstone: A Lawlight fic

Written for @dnkinktober Day Four: Marking 500 words Content notes: BDSM, biting, domestic fluff. Alternate universe. Read here or on AO3 Light would like to be marked, and L is happy to oblige.

It was Light’s idea, the mark — as is often the case, Light leads and L pretends the whole endeavour had been his idea all along. People envision a hierarchy where there isn’t. This is a decision that had been made over the breakfast table, alongside orange juice and toast.

I’d like something to show I’m yours, he had said, and L had passed him the coffee and considered.

Light is kneeling on his pillow now, so good and so patient in their bedroom, his back straight, his feet carefully overlapped. He wears a plain black shirt and dark pants. The lights are dimmed; they are warm and orange and throw soft shadows, make Light’s hair look like spun gold.

L is in jeans and a white shirt. He carries a small, silver dish filled with temporary tattoo ink and a paintbrush. This is not an eternity sort of situation — it’s a trial period, something fun, something meaningful, something which might become something more or which might be left as is.

Carefully, he kneels behind Light, then sets down his tools. He places one palm on Light’s shoulder. Light stiffens, not to resist but rather to hold him as L rises onto his knees and takes Light’s upper arm for balance.

He can feel the heat of Light’s body; he smells like vetiver. He leans close to Light’s ear. “Ready?”

Light nods, then tilts his head to expose length of his throat. His hair tangles on it. L brushes it out of the way. There is a tiny freckle below his ear.

He leans down and bites.

Light breathes in, sharp; his muscles tense.

It doesn’t have to be all that hard, doesn’t have to break skin, but it does need to leave a mark. L has bitten him before and so he knows Light is prepared but it is still a bite and it is still pain and there is no way around that, not that either of them want a way around it — pain can be a gift, pain can be gentle, pain can be tender as a kiss when it is taken willingly and given with the knowledge that it will end. He is flinching because people flinch, because the body and all its instincts are an inescapable thing, and L strokes his shoulder to calm him even as he bites harder. He can taste the salt on Light’s skin.

At last he pulls away and Light exhales.

The bite has left deep divots on his neck. They are a deep red, the vague outlines of teeth; L can see his crooked canine, the tiny gaps between his front teeth which he pretends are not the reason he smiles with his lips closed, and it is strange to think of this strange echo of himself. He can't hate these things when he sees them on Light.

He strokes around the edge of the bite. It’s wet. He can see his saliva glistening in the marks he has made.

“Good?” He says, and Light nods again.

He picks up the ink and the brush and, very carefully, begins to paint where he had been.

I love MelloxMatt so much. Like I know that Matt isn’t even a fleshed out character and you barely get to know him in the manga but he’s a real actual character in my head. I love reading fics where him and Mello live and they have domestic lives. I think it’s also one of the best ships from Death Note. Any ship involving Light, L, or Misa idk it just turns me away. I know that Lawlight is a big ship but I can’t really get into it :/

from telltale - a few random ones:

The amount of agency he has during these dreams fluctuates, but the awareness is—more frustratingly—pretty stagnant: it's there, oh yes, but it's there in the way your keys are there when you've dropped them in the drain.

pretty straightforward line but i like finding fun ways to describe the unique weirdness of dreams. the idea of reality being very visible to you but frustratingly out of reach is just fun to me

“What normally happens when you're feeling guilty about something?” L finally swivels to eye him. “I already told you that you can have it,” he says. “If you're feeling guilty, just go buy me more right now.” “That's not what I meant,” says Light. Then: “Is that why you offered it to me? So I'd feel bad and buy you more?”

L and light's dream interactions were super fun to write, because of this need to balance light's ordinary sharpness and focus with the fact that he's in a dream and that your agency in dreams wavers. so he keeps buying into these misdirecting bits of dialogue from L even if he's not strictly falling for them. also, funawa propaganda (pastry shop in jp) it got mentioned in L change the world and rightly so because the youkan and sweet potato cheese puffs literally haunt me every day i miss them so fucking much

“I didn't think so,” says L, nodding with some solemnity. “Domestic life, it's more a matter of going through the motions, isn't it?”

me trying desperately to force my agenda that lawlight aren't really in love per se and that the domesticity is sort of a function of something else, no less intimate, but not traditionally romantic. i just think they're so interesting when they're not "dating" but they are, like, eternal soulmates obsessed with each other forever. in the same vein:

“Do I love you?” Light asks. “It doesn't really matter to me,” says L. “Do you love me?” “That doesn't really matter to me, either,” says L.

Light knows the layout of the apartment he shares with L by heart. So well, in fact, that when he falls out of bed in the middle of the night to stumble gagging to the bathroom, he'll smack into the east wall feeling for a door that isn't there.

MAN i just really like playing with dreams that fuck you up so bad they bleed into reality. i have nothing deep to say about this i just like fucking with light yagami and ruining his life

i think my favourite recurring idea is light's thing about friendship and loneliness:

I don't mind talking to my classmates, but feeling lonely isn't just about having people around you. Well, how do I put it? I guess talking to them doesn't make me feel less lonely.

light is a very isolated character to me. this is a pretty simple line but it happens surprisingly early on for being a fairly vulnerable confession, given how guarded light is. i think the unique situation of the bodyswap makes L a more intimate confidant. anyway later in the fic L says he considers light a friend

at this point in time, i already consider asahi-kun a friend. . Really? Okay. Then I'm glad you're my friend. :)

after that, light repeats the point a couple more times

I can't let you die. You're my friend. [...] You’re my friend.

i know these aren't like poetic lines or anything lol but i am fond of them because i like the idea of light, like... getting permission to consider L a friend and then kinda labouring the point after that, worried about L but also just like "wow! i have a friend!"
