Wuchang Gui (Word of Honor) - Dokomi '24 (Sunday)

For the 6 other people on this platform who have not forgottten about this gremlin. ("I'm not obsessed" I said as I took 6274814 screenshots to figure out what he was wearing)

Lipstick: 'Player' by Morphe (but I think it has been discontinued? D=)

Hat: Buckram fabric. Love it. Why haven't I worked with it before? It's lovely and stiff and I can sew it together (I hate working with glue)

So glad this came together after three years of looking at Xue Fei in the role. It took me ages to find a green I liked. 4387273859% will wear again. Everytime I spotted my reflection somewhere was an absolute joy.

Special Shoutout to the person who guessed I was Jin Yan from 'Blood of Youth' (same actor. "I'm not obsessed" I said as I watched another drama just for Xue Fei)

Had some celebratory Wolong Nuts at the con. They really are nice lol

WiP - Prisoner Outfit for Allen

Next Outfit to be worked on is the Prisoner Outfit as I decided it's the perfect one to wear under Crown Clown for the Dokomi, as it's June/July then and maybe quite hot.

Started by making pattern based off cloth I had, I just adjusted them accordingly then prepared all parts to be cut. First day was working on the pants.

The closure was a bit diffcult, but it's the third pair of pants I do I am still learning. In the end I decided .. to give them no closure as it's jersey you don't need one. I'm glad though I only had planned on working on the pants that day as my brother visited and somehow the whole situation sucked a lot of my spoons. And starting with the pants and noticing I had prepared half of it wrong was not helping... I pulled through though. Considering myself lucky I had enough fabric to recut the parts.

For the second day the top was to follow, with lining and a sewn in zipper.

I had sewn in zipper for dolls but in human size.... it has been a while and never with lining to be honest.

The lining went quite easy, not much to adjust regarding the pattern only the shoulders.

And as advice: always add some pockets to your costumes! At the fair the only day I was annoyed by my costume not having good pockets was the day I had bought clothes which lacked good pockets. It might be a bit more effort but surely worth it!

Continueing with the zipper here, took me a while to figure out but I think it turned out fine. Still debating if I want to draw tiny rose crosses onto it.

Then I somehow created a ...

... a sleeping bag and had a weird sewing mistake as I added the collar but somehow I was good at figuring it out, my mood was surely better than the day before.

And done! I'm glad this was a quick one. I adjusted the shoulders a bit before I closed the seams and yeah, I will maybe wear it at the Nipponcon on it's own =)

Dokomi '24, day 1

So Dokomi 2021 is happening! And I'll be there at my artist alley table (B38)! (Fully vaccinated and all.) This is one of my new prints! I have three and all of them are vaguely inspired by a pretty song called "La tristesse du diable" by Meimuna. Don't forget I'll also be bringing the final volume of Butterflies for its convention premiere! :D

With that being said ... Last time I complained how hard it is to decide between drawing and gaming. Well, nowadays both of them are out of fashion. I was a fool and actually started writing that story that was stealing my attention from other things. It's been a month now and I'm at 50.000 words, maybe 30% done with the story. If it weren't for work and all that convention preparation stuff, I would probably write 24/7. It's crazy, really, but I'm having the -best- time. 8D

hi! yes actuallyy.. I /should/ be a Dutch Comic con (28-29 march) in Utrecht and Dokomi (23-24 may) in Dusseldorf

I say should because with the virus situation right now it’s unclear if there will be complications with conventions happening as planned but so far yes I’m going

[Verslag] Dokomi 2019

Dokomi, het grootste evenement in het teken van Japanse cultuur en cosplay in Duitsland.

Dit jaar waren we voor het eerst aanwezig op deze conventie en hebben we de Duitse cosplay community kunnen ontmoeten.

Het eerste wat ons opviel aan de locatie is dat deze immens groot is en eigenlijk slecht vergelijkbaar is met welke Nederlandse conventie dan ook, Animecon is dan ook de eerste conventie die in onze gedachten opkomt als we iets ter vergelijking moeten kiezen.

Dealers dealers dealers

Dokomi is zoals een echte Japanse conventie een soort comic con gevuld met Japanse aspecten. 

We zien enorm veel dealers voorbij komen in een enorme dealerroom waar voor ieder wat wils is. 

Opvallend is dat ze naast een dealerroom ook een hele ruimte hebben voor de doujinshi. Hier zien we mensen uit zowel Duitsland als het buitenland voorbij komen die hun eigen werk aanbieden aan het publiek van Dokomi. Dit werk loopt uiteen van artwork tot eigen manga of commissions.

Activiteiten

Wat we gedurende de dag eigenlijk wel een beetje missen zijn echte activiteiten waar je aan mee kunt doen.

Het podium is gevuld met flink wat activiteiten en de zaterdag hebben we zelfs kunnen genieten van een band als Fhana (bekend van o.a. openings van Kobayashi’s Dragon Maid), maar we missen bijvoorbeeld een ruimte voor lezingen of leuke workshops.

De dag kom je ondanks het gebrek aan deze activiteiten goed door en een dag is eigenlijk te weinig als optimaal wilt genieten van het evenement.

Food & Drinks

Wat wel heel goed was aan het evenement was het stukje Japanse food Court op de buitenplaats. Hier kon je heerlijk genieten van Aziatische drankjes en snacks waaronder Bubble Tea en okonomiyaki, dit is een soort Japans omelet!

Conclusie

De sfeer van het evenement is zeer goed, gezellig en je kan voldoende doen op een dag. Wel merk je al snel het verschil tussen een Nederlandse en Duitse conventie, waar het hier meer gaat om de aanschaf van merchandise, het ontmoeten van vrienden, maken van nieuwe vrienden en het bijwonen van vette activiteiten op het podium.

De conventie is redelijk goedkoop ik vergelijking met een Nederlands conventie, is goed bereikbaar en word gehouden in een mooie omgeving. Het Congress centrum is groot en mooi en net aan de overkant zit een groot park met een Japanse tuin wat het uitermate geschikt maakt voor prachtige shoots, er zijn dan ook talloze fotografen aanwezig die je graag helpen met een mooie, leuke foto.

Al met al is Dokomi een leuk evenement net over de grens van Duitsland in Düsseldorf. Zowel het evenement als de stad hebben voldoende dingen in Japanse stijl te bieden, zo heeft Düsseldorf een stadsgedeelte gevuld met Japanse winkel “klein Tokyo am Rhein”, maar kom je je dag ook prima door op Dokomi zelf.

Voor de mensen die overwegen volgend jaar te gaan adviseren wij wel voor een heel weekend te gaan. Dit geeft je net meer ruimte om alles te zien, te meeten met mensen, maar ook om bijvoorbeeld de Japanse disco of cosplay ball bij te wonen!

Huhu, zu welchen Conventions fahrt ihr denn dieses Jahr noch und wann sind die. Kann man da die Shojo Postcards (doe jetzt gerade neu sind) bekommen. Ich bekomme einfach nirgendwo welche, selbst bei Händlern die sie explizit bei euch bestellen... :(

Wir sind dieses Jahr noch auf der Dokomi (3. und 4. Juni 2017), AnimagiC (4. bis 6. August) und Connichi (22. bis 24. September). Ob wir da die aktuellen SHOJO-Postkarten noch dabei haben oder schon neue, können wir aber nicht versprechen :-)
