Week of 12.26.16 - 1.1.17

I ended 2016 with a completed weekly blog and a bad head-cold that’s prevented me from enjoying much media this week.

Books

The Crystal Cave, Mary Stewart - My travel book for the last week, a novel about Merlin’s upbringing in post-Roman Britain.

Series

The Crown (2016-, S1E10) - The last episode of the series, the Crown has made a lasting impression on me.

Video Games

Dokapon Kingdom - Part board game part RPG, Dokapon Kingdom is definitely an experience. This game was played for several hours (our group made it to the second continent). Where we left off, I was in a solid second place with a typical Warrior build.

Tabletop Games

D&D 3.5 - I met some new friends, and we had a 6-player game of D&D 3.5 edition. I offered to pick up any class needed to round out the party, and I played a gnomish bard. I’d forgotten how much I liked 3.5, and I should seek out a game in this edition in my spare time. I hope to try bard again next time.

D&D 5e - I ran a game of D&D for my brothers. It was a brief introduction to D&D for one and an introduction to the 5th edition rules for another. While this isn’t the first time I’ve ran a game of D&D, I spent a lot of time designing this ‘dungeon’ and creating custom maps. I did most of the character creation in my spare time. The one-shot format is very interesting, I’d like to explore it further.
