It’s been four weeks without my soul dog.

Four weeks without you.

Four weeks since I last held you.

Four weeks since you last pushed your forehead into mine.

Four weeks since you last kissed me.

Four weeks into the rest of my life without you. I’m still not sure how to live without you.

I’m completely broken.

I was thinking about when we adopted Xander. I recently found a photo of Xander at HSBV with one of his sisters.

We adopted Xander from the Humane Society of Boulder Valley on October 1st, 2010. Xander and his sisters had been found on the side of the road in Oklahoma and luckily for us he found his way to Colorado.

He was so skinny, covered in scratches and all legs.

His shelter name was Pluto.

We decided to name him Xander Harris after the character in Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Just like his namesake - Xander was kind, goofy and fiercely protective of those he loved.

Xander quickly became my dog. He was so in tune with my emotions and got me through every hard moment of the last 14 years.

He loved pickles and blueberries, in the summer he would eat blueberries straight off the blueberry bushes. He would push his forehead into mine and we would just sit like that.

Xander is my adventure buddy, doggy copilot, security blanket and so much.

This dog has had a bigger life than most people have in a shorter time.

We have slept under the stars in the desert together.

Explored Ruins from the Ancestral Puebloans in the four corners region.

We summited 14ers together.

We found petroglyphs in Utah.

We wandered through Banff together and down the California coast.

We visited Tofino and the redwoods together.

Through Haight Ashbury and the Castro in San Francisco.

We wandered through so many different states and provinces.

We explored so many places.

From the ocean, to the desert, the mountains and everything in between.

Xan had the softest ears and the kindest soul.

14 years will never be enough time but we used every second of that time together.

I love you Xander with every piece of my heart. Thank you for all the love and always keeping me safe. You are my heart.

He truly is my soul dog, my heart, my best friend.

Xander Harris, Xan, X-man, Banana. I miss you so fucking much. I loved you for your whole life and I’ll miss you for the rest of mine.

So there's some details missing in these refs but the poses are still so lovely! I didn't want them to go to waste.
