A coining. I guess.

I have been in search of a term that best describes my feelings and I honestly feel like I still haven't found it, but having something that feels free to me is what I'm most excited about.

I am not bashing or denouncing any terms or history, I am just having something that feels lest restrictive in my journey. If you'd like to also use this term, feel free. This was made with me in mind and within like an hour so it's got some flaws.

I'll be using this term in tandem with therian/otherhearted/otherkin/etc, since it's essentially an amalgamation of many things.

❅ Animalurge:

Animalurge represents a profound desire to embody various animal qualities, encompassing physical attributes like ears, tails, and instincts, as well as connections to the natural habitats where these animals reside.

Individuals with Animalurge experience comfort and a sense of freedom when envisioning themselves with these animal qualities or as animals. These feelings can fluctuate in intensity and may be associated with a diverse array of animals. This term encapsulates a fusion of experiences often found in therianthropy, otherheartedness, and regression.

It's an integrated feeling that can be triggered by specific circumstances such as watching documentaries about the chosen animal, encountering related foods, engaging in specific activities, or immersing themselves in nature or related gear.

Individuals can choose to define their experience as identifying "with" or "as" an animal or neither/both. Animalurge is a term designed to encompass a wide range of experiences that may or may not align with existing media representations.

❅ -Lurge:

The suffix "-lurge" is used to denote specific Animalurge identities.

❅ Examples:

❅ Parker is an Animalurge. They are a wolflurge. With a strong yearning to possess biological wolf traits and instincts, Parker finds a sense of freedom in nature and takes pleasure in daydreaming about life as a wolf and "acting" like one. These feelings are a consistent part of their daily thoughts and experiences.

❅ Toby is also an Animalurge, specifically a catlurge. Toby's desires and visions for their catself are highly specific. They imagine themselves as a dilute tortoiseshell house cat. These catlurge feelings arise periodically, typically once a month, often triggered by posts or media related to cats.

❅ Minty is a multi-faceted Animalurge, encompassing broad rabbitlurge connections with all variants of rabbits, deeply routed in her being. Her primary focus is rabbitlurge, a feeling of a mind intertwined with these creatures. Additionally, she is a cockatiellurge, which she considers more for fun, keeping it in mind when swinging on a swing or enjoying sunflower seeds. Her mouselurge identity is derived from a general interest in mice, representing a blend of various aspects that change in intensity throughout the year.

I'm aware that is probably really confusing to read, or just looks like a jumbled mess. That's alright, I'll put some more effort into this some other time. I am not scanning this for errors rn ^^"

Flat-Coated Retriever

During the early 1900s, Flat-Coated Retrievers were favoured by gamekeepers. Now, they’re also accepted as great family pets due to their friendly and puppy-like nature!

Flat-Coated Retrievers are a high energy breed, requiring around 2 hours of exercise a day. As a utility dog, they're bred for the dual purpose of land retrieving and water retrieving. This versatility is what makes them a great asset to gamekeepers!

In an article (linked below) Karen Peterson explains that during the breed's development, the following traits were emphasized: "intelligence, nose, ability to follow the trail of wounded game, aptitude for carrying, combined with a soft mouth, strength and courage in water, obedience, steadiness and desire to please." (Peterson, A Brief History of The Flat-Coated Retriever, 2012).

I just had a vivid dream, and if I were certain past lives exist...

I was a medium sized fluffy brown and white dog (maybe a red aussie with a tail, or a mix with mostly that, especially considering I mouthed at moving feet), owned by a man (brown hair, mustache) and his son (maybe 8?). The kid probably just got back from soccer practice or something because he was wearing an all red sports outfit. We were at an empty ymca or park or something, and the kid and I (I loved him so much) were running around playing, and the dad throwing a ball for me a couple times. I could feel my body as I ran, I could see every detail of my surroundings, every little hill and pine needle (seeing every grass blade in a dream? not normal for me). At one point I got out of their sight sniffing a few crocuses and a flat pinecone when I heard the man call my name (Bexie or Boxer or Baxter or something), and when I lifted my head, I saw his face and got really happy and ran back, and then the boy and I kept running in an even bigger field next to the area we were just in.

Azawakh

Widely believed to be a descendant of the extinct Tesem, the Azawakh originates from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. This sighthound is mostly utilised as a guardian, and a gazelle hunter (hunting in packs). This breed wasn't seen outside of Africa until the 1970s, but now that it's available in the US, the breed also excels in lure coursing.

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers

Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retrievers, more easily known as “Tollers” are a unique sporting and gun dog. Whilst they look similar to a Golden Retriever, these small retrievers are different in many ways.

Duck Tollers are naturally high energy dogs, as they were bred as gun dogs. Typically, a hunter will hide by some water, and send the dog out into the water (by throwing a ball or stick) and then will call the dog back to the hiding place - wild ducks see this strange orange dog appearing and reappearing, and are inclined to investigate. Once the ducks come close enough, the hunter shoots, and the dog is sent to retrieve the prey.

Thus, Duck Tolling Retrievers are drawn to the water, and love to swim. These energetic dogs are capable of excelling in many sports, such as dock jumping, lure coursing and fly ball.

Karakachans

The Karakachan is a livestock guardian. Particularly loyal, Karakachans are willing to fight off any predator - it may be due to this nature that they are so cautious with strangers. A Karakachan is typically very intelligent and happy to do it’s own thing, making it a hard feat to train.

Due to their working purpose being to guard livestock, Karakachans will often patrol and guard their flock - in a home setting, a Karakachan will likely patrol the garden. As they are so protective, Karakachan’s tend to form strong bonds with their family or pack.

The name “Karakachan” is derived from the nomadic group of native shepherding people named “Karakachani”. Karakachan dogs are also known as Thracian Mollos or Ovcharsko Kuche.
