Robot Dreams - A Treatise on Relationships
Tumblr media
Robot Dreams is one of the best movies I’ve ever seen in my life. It’s heartfelt, touching, fun, layered and just brilliant. Every scene deserves to be dissected and studied. There’s so much thought put into every frame and it’s all just glorious.
The basic premise is this: Dog is lonely in his little New York apartment and buys a robot to be his friend. Dog and Robot hang out in New York, until they’re separated. Robot is rusted on the beach and is too heavy to move. To make matters worse, the beach is closed until the next season, meaning Dog has to wait 10 months before he can go back. All of this is told without dialogue; the only words are in a few songs that are played and text on letters, postcards, billboards and the like. It plays like a silent film, hugely focused on using movement and expression to convey the story.
Tumblr media
The movie takes place in the 80’s, but it’s not just idle nostalgia. It’s a very purposeful decision: just enough technology to communicate with people, but not as pervasive as social media is. Relationships are brittle as a result, since you can lose contact with someone at any point. At the same time, a meaningful friendship is still just as powerful as it is now. Technology might make us more available, but it doesn’t make us more connected.
Choosing to take place in New York is a similar decision; being surrounded by people doesn’t mean you have a social life. You need to take the time to reach out to someone and really try to talk to them. Going back to social media, being in a crowded city is like having a lot of online friends you don’t really talk to. Your number of followers might be big, but does it mean anything?
There’s a lot of hand-wringing these days about social media making us lonely and alienated. Robot Dreams has that same kind of loneliness in a world that doesn’t have social media. It was never the phones or apps, feeling lost in the world is just the default state of things. It won’t change unless you change.
Tumblr media
The cure for loneliness is time and effort. There’s no shortcut, only persistence. You have to open yourself up, and that means being vulnerable. You will be hurt and that's ok. Locking your heart away won't make you happy, just safe.
Call that old friend you haven't seen in a while. Go to that meetup you aren't sure that you'll like. Reach out to people. You have to open the door and let them in.

Fourth Time's the Charm?
Dating, as many people know, is hard. There have been many a person I've chatted to on Hinge where the conversations stalls before the first date. Other times, it's at the very first meeting where I know me and the potential future life partner won't be compatible. And, on the odd occasion, it's the second date where it all falls apart. But what blows my mind is that I can count on one hand how many have reached the third date before calling it quits and ghosting me on whichever app we're chatting on. Clearly, I'm not someone who is easy to date. Which is...fair.
But with Dikottir, we've managed to reach the elusive 'fourth' date. Although, I do find it hard to classify it as a date. Primarily because I only arranged for a meet-up so I could offload souvenirs I'd purchased for Dikottir while overseas.
For context, during my trip to South Korea and Japan, Dikottir and I had remained chatting in the vague sense I'd told him of some of my adventures (a little tit for tat as he's often just sent me dog photos). While I was in Nagasaki, he mentioned that castellas were a much prized treat and that I ought to try one.
Which, of course I did (one point I'd like to emphasise here though, is that bleachpanda and I did try a castella even before Dikottir mentioned it).
As I was sightseeing across the city, bleachpanda and I would often stumble upon many a souvenir shop selling all types of merchandise. Many featured Nagasaki's unique food, such as the aforementioned castella, but there were also champon noodles and pork belly buns, as acrylic charms or as figurines.
So, given where our conversation had led, I, of course, picked up two charms I thought Dikottir might appreciate.
The minor offering was later augmented with a Hufflepuff keyring. Why Hufflepuff you may ask? Well, in Dikottir's own words he was a proud badger who loves food. And given Hufflepuff is located right next to the kitchens, he was all in to giving the oft overlooked Hogwarts House some much needed love.
Anyways, the two of us arranged for a meetup at a dessert bar in the suburb of Zetland where I could hand off the charms I got him and then be off on my merry way for the rest of the day. Sure, we'd eat a cake and maybe get a drink but this wasn't supposed to be a long engagement like my previous dates with Dikottir.
This time round though, Dikottir was the first to arrive. As I rocked up to the cosy cafe, I noted Dikottir on his phone, waiting outside. With a quick greeting, we headed inside to make our orders and sit around eating cake.
And it was a good catch-up.
As always, we chatted about things in our lives and the current issues plaguing society. You know, the deep meaningful conversations one might have with people you might still don't know super well but are slowly acclimatising oneself to as time goes on.
It's certainly better than being talked at about some niche aspect of a popular video game (which, don't get me wrong, I love video games. A majority of my posts are about the video games I play but when people start bending my ear for a month about what they did in the multiplayer for Mass Effect 3 and how they'd ripped the geth to shreds in very intricate detail, my attention does begin to wander).
Dikottir and I talked and ate cake until about 1 PM. But when I thought we would be parting ways, Dikottir surprised me by suggesting lunch at The Cannery, a local place that was just a ten minute walk away in the suburb of Rosebery.
Since I didn't have anything too pressing, given this was the weekend after the Easter long weekend (and I'd come from a roadtrip with the family up to Port Macquarie to visit a family friend), I had plenty of time on my hands. So, off we went, although our conversation slowly turned towards mental health and the people we happened to encounter in our lives struggling with their grasp on reality. His was a friend and ex-coworker while mine was an old high school friend I no longer associated with.
Whereas Dikottir's example had held ideas of grandiosity where they would move to the United States and their life would be rosy, mine is still struggling with self-induced psychosis (possibly an exaggeration on my part but every time I've been updated on their status, it seems they fall further down the rabbit hole). But in the end, the two of us agreed that there was no point in throwing ourselves in the figurative fire to try and rescue those threatening to self-destruct because of their maladaptive beliefs/ thought processes. Something that was reiterated to me by someone who works at a mental health clinic when I divulged a little of the details of my mentally ill ex-friend.
Do I sometimes feel guilty for stepping away?
Yes.
But even before they'd fully gone off the deep-end, I'd slowly started to resent them for not contributing enough to our house hunting needs and failing to offer any help as I did most of the work.
Our dynamic, unfortunately, didn't work. And I had always felt uncomfortable in how they'd previously put me on a pedestal. As if I was someone who could do no wrong. Even as I was struggling with my own familial relationships at the time!
Anyways, that's not something I want to go into just yet. If you want to read about the fallout in our friendship from a semi-vague viewpoint, look out for my posts in 2022.
After our grim discussion, Dikottir and I arrived at the Cannery. Given that it was lunch time, we had a quick look at the Saturday stalls and the goods they had on offer. Once we had looked through everything once, Dikottir and I stopped at Frenchies Bistro and Brewery where I got a prawn and lobster roll while Dikottir was satisfied with his plate of tortellini.
Some might consider it strange to have lunch right after chowing down on dessert, but it worked for us. Plus, the ambiance was nice, the company was great and there was no pressing need to hurry back home.
All in all, it was a much more relaxed date that I shared with Dikottir this fourth time round. Whether or not it will eventually lead to anything is still up in the air.
Dikottir is a nice enough fellow who has some very funny stories. And he's not so hyperfixated on only one topic. And much like Shrek, who came before him, he knows how to converse instead of making it completely one-sided. Plus, he also has a good job and hasn't shown me any red flags of an explosive temper that could lead to physical violence.
So, if we are talking about actual potential future partner prospects, Dikottir is one of the strongest contenders for my affections I've met. And we're still chatting!
And yet, I don't think I feel anything beyond possible friendship?
Dating as an asexual (who might be a closeted lesbian although my date with Eivor didn't see me catching feels, so maybe I truly am ace/ aro) is hard. I don't understand the lust most people have. And while I do get obsessive squishes (something Sorrengail - and fellow ace - mentioned once to me), I don't know if my brief bout of wanting to know more about a person will actually lead to romantic love like 'holding hands' and the much dreaded 'kissing.' On the other hand, since I'm trying to 'date,' many of these more natural things people just end up doing is on my mind and I wonder if my dates will actually try to hold my hand, etc. and how I'd react if they did.
While I don't think I would reject Dikottir if he did ask to hold my hand, I am somewhat touch averse. Something I made clear when Dikottir escorted me back to the train station and we said our goodbyes.
To be fair, Dikottir did ask if he could give me a hug and I did warn him I'm very bad at hugs, but he didn't seem to mind.
So maybe there's hope?
I certainly didn't 'get the creeps' after returning his hug.
Anyways, the future remains unwritten for the dating life of Kyndaris. Time will tell if I'll ever end up with anyone or if I'll just become a single mum seeking a sperm donation because the idea of having a kid is not instantly repulsive to me.
But suffering through childbirth does kinda terrify me. Especially when I've read horror stories about all the things that could go wrong.

My dream app that I will never actually make for a million reasons: Impartial, the app for political organizing. With a paid subscription, you can create a political organization and post when and where it will meet for what purposes. With a free account, you can browse meetings and decide what to attend. Anyone can use Impartial, even if they’re not a registered political party, e.g. dog breeders meeting to discuss upcoming dog-related legislation.
What about illegal content?
Impartial will remove anything found to be illegal in its country of origin, though it’ll need to rely on user reports to catch everything. Moreover, nothing stops cops from reading Impartial and arresting your ass.
What about legal content by terrible people?
It stays. Again, cops can read Impartial, and so can counter-protesters. If your “legal” meetup is secretly for something illegal, and you have a reputation for lawbreaking, cops may show up to check on you, and Impartial will neither encourage nor stop them. If your legal meetup is for something lots of people are mad about, you may find yourself outnumbered.
What about content by good people who’ll get harassed by a critical mass of assholes?
Impartial isn’t for every meetup. Secret meetings are better served by other methods.
What about impersonators? Like someone who says they’re the official Democratic Party when they’re not?
Against Impartial’s terms of service. Please report.
What about people who say they’re going to have a political meeting, but sell essential oils to anyone who shows up?
Lifetime ban.
Will this actually turn a profit?
Probably not, which is one reason I’m not trying to make it.
So what do you think? Are you partial to Impartial?
(If anyone’s actually doing this, please let me know. I couldn’t find a political board on Craigslist.)

review - ghost trick: phantom detective
app store, nintendo store; first chapters free, full game $10 playtime: ~4-5hrs rating: 8/10 replayability: 7/10
Tumblr media
crazy characters. insane plot. twistier and turnier than a maze. character design happened while on acid probably. such an excellent game.
ghost trick: phantom detective by capcom is a game of "how many" - how many times you're willing to replay a scene before you go look up a guide, how many times sissel has to help other people in his quest to find himself, how many times you take screenshots of missile saying something only a dog would say. every chapter took me tantalizingly closer to the answer only for the ending to completely blow me away with how incomprehensible and perfectly sensible it was. there's an explanation for everything, and there are so many things that need explaining that at the very end, the explanations come in a barrage of satisfaction that leaves me wanting to replay and see where i missed the clues.
every single character is interesting and lovable, all with their own stories and motivations, from the dancing guard to the simpering henchman to the chicken chef and the waitress on rollerskates. even characters you only see in one scene have an important role to play and a life that you get a glimpse into. each design is so incredibly fun, colorful, and silly, and it echoes the game's message - that everyone is connected, and we are all a part of each other's story.
though i used a guide for most of the game (sue me - there's a great one here by fukuyasu), it's definitely not impossible to do on your own with a little more patience and brainpower. the puzzles were fun, though they can become tedious if you're committed to figuring it out on your own. for me, this game was character driven, and i wanted to complete each stage as fast as i could to see a little more of the story. honestly even with how frustrating i found some of the stages, i would still replay it if i had a few hours on my own and see if i can untangle the threads from the beginning - and to see sissel, kamila, lynne, missile, jowd, cabanela, and the others again.
spoilers below
damn! that ending! sissel-cat is too cute. and the yomiel-creature made up of junk and a cone was hilarious. i didn't like that we went back in time to erase everything, and then suddenly it happened in a way i was surprisingly very satisfied with. sissel being yomiel's cat is an ending only ghost trick could have and could make sense of. i wish we got a little more explanation about the blue people, but i did like the insights in the credits into the other characters' lives in the new future.
that gay little family photo at the end was so funny because jowd's wife is fully alive here but instead he's taking a photo with his daughter (kamila) and his adopted not-daughter (lynne) with his work husband (cabanela) who is also lynne's work dad. and their two pets...
one thing i don't understand is why there's no meetup or anything since yomiel said they would all retain the memory of the past events even if those technically didn't exist in this reality, which i liked as a continuity mechanism to deal with fuzzy time travel mechanics. technically they would all remember what had happened right? or at least jowd, yomiel, sissel, and missile would since they were the ones who went back to yomiel's death. i did like that yomiel was fully prepared to die over and over for baby lynne to atone for his crime of holding her hostage, and that we all thought he died before they revealed he was still alive. it makes him a sympathetic "antagonist" in the perfect way, and opens the road to reconciliation.
what a fun game! i love cat sissel so much.

This is why I keep turning on the dating app even though dating is kinda terrible.
This is why I'm making myself attend meetups with strangers when I mostly just want to go home and sleep.
This is why I keep making the effort to walk my dog every day, even though the weather is awful and I'm exhausted.
Because I want to be the kind of person who gives my dog what she needs and makes her happy, and who gets to know my neighbors by merit of actually seeing them when I'm walking her.
Because I want to broaden my social circles and relearn how to be outgoing and make friends.
And maybe I still haven't decided if I actually want to date anybody, but it's a skill that I want to have if I ever need it.
I'm trying to work on becoming the kind of person I want to be.

Rent An Oppa ~ HHJ [Request]
Tumblr media
WORD COUNT: 4.5K
 PAIRING: Hyunjin x Reader
GENRE: non idol AU, strangers to lovers, rent an oppa, fluffy, a little angst but nothing too major, pining for one another, first kiss,
A/N: I made this one a fluffy one without smut hunny, I hope that this is okay hunny
Tumblr media
Moving to South Korea was one of the best decisions you'd ever made. It had been your dream for years to move somewhere that wasn’t where you were from. You’d finally made it happen, you were here. Sitting in your new apartment staring out at all of the sights that you could see. The apartment you’d gotten was a loft apartment which was something you’d never thought of having before, but it was perfect. The ground floor was open plan, besides the bathroom of course and you had large floor to ceiling windows that looked out at the city of Seoul. Your bedroom was just up a flight of stairs and it looked out at the ground floor, it was unbelievably perfect for your first home in Seoul. There was only one thing wrong with everything and that was that you didn’t know your way around. Sure there were maps and people you could ask for help but you wanted a tour guide.
You’d seen an app being advertised on your plane ride over which you were tempted to use. “Rent an Oppa.” It sounded like it was straight out of a K-Drama but it was real and monitored wonderfully. Everyone had a screening test, background test and everything is done before they were allowed to become an “Oppa” for the app.
“Let’s see what this is then,” You mumbled to yourself as you sat down on your sofa, pulling your knees up to your chest as you began to scroll through the app. Everyone had profiles set up with verification photos to prove that they were who they said they were, then there were some small descriptions about the boys or girls there.
Tumblr media
Endlessly scrolling and swiping through profiles you couldn’t find anyone you thought you would get along well with. You wanted someone that you had things in common with, if you were going to be paying them for their time you might as well do something you both enjoy doing it.
About to give up hope and go at it alone a profile popped up. A new profile that caught your eye. The photo was of a boy around 21-years-old standing on top of a rooftop, dressed in a smart shirt and tie aiming a camera at whoever was taking the photo of him. Photography-nut was written in his profile making you giggle a little as you flicked through his images. In each of them, it began to reveal his face and mid-length blonde hair. He looked as though he was really sweet and kind, the kind of boy you took to meet your parents.
“Hyunjin,” You smiled as you said his name, swiping onto his profile to see what rates he was charging. It wasn’t expensive and just in your budget range so you messaged him. There was no harm in seeing if he was free that day.
[12:03] Y/n:
Hi there, I’m not entirely sure how this thing works 😅😅 but could we arrange a meetup? I’m new in Seoul and need a tour guide đŸ„°
Staring at the phone you debated with yourself if that was the right way to start a conversation with someone on the app. There was no tutorial on how to message them or if you had to wait for them to message you first.
[12:07] Hyunjin 🍀
Hey! I would love to arrange a meetup. I can meet you anywhere you feel comfortable! Welcome to Seoul! 💞đŸŒș
Smiling to yourself you gave him the address to the shop right beside your apartment building. It was the only play you really knew so far and you wanted to meet him somewhere you knew the exact location of. Rather than wandering around lost trying to find somewhere to meet him you didn’t know yet.
Dressed in a long-sleeved Beige shirt-dress and some black leggings you waited outside the shop, acting as though you were busy on your phone so you didn’t look as though you were staring out for Hyunjin. It was already going to be awkward enough without you looking around gormlessly for him.
“Hey,” A voice called out making you jump a little as you looked up from your phone to see him. He was identical to his photos though his hair was a little longer now.
“Hi, I’m Y/n.” You shook his hand and he smiled nodding his head,
“I’m Hyunjin and I know this is probably going to be awkward for a while so I hope we can become friends throughout it,” He smiled as he let go of your hand. This time you looked at him you took in his whole appearance, he was wearing a black and white striped turtle neck and some black jeans.
“I’m new to the app so we’re both doing firsts here,” He smiled as he looked around you both, taking in everything around him as he tried to figure out what you could do for the day.
“It’s still quite early in the afternoon...I can show you around, show you all of the shops, shopping mall and just around Seoul itself if you like?” You were completely taken by his voice, appearance and how sweet he was being with you.
“I would love that, the only place I know is the shop and my apartment.” You laughed weakly as he nodded his head.
“Would you mind if I linked our arms?” You shook your head and you linked arms with one another as he began to lead you down the road.
“So what brings you to Seoul?” He questioned as he tried to break the ice. It was nice that he was trying, you had rented him for the rest of the day and you were going to have to get to know each other.
“I fancied a change in pace. I’ve always loved South Korea and the culture,” You admitted as your eyes glanced around at all of the people you were pacing. Everyone in their own worlds as they went about their daily lives. Each person you saw looked as though they had been plucked out of a fashion magazine, their outfits were so effortless yet stood out in the large crowds.
“When did you get here?” He asked as he waited at the side of the road for lights to change and you could cross without being in any kind of danger.
“About two days ago...I’ve been locked up in my apartment eating Ramen. I was so worried I’d get lost.” You groaned thinking back on it while Hyunjin laughed a little, shaking his head.
“I’ll add a shopping trip on our list of things to do. I can’t have you living off only ramen.” He chuckled and your whole heart seemed to swell up when you saw the smile on his face. It was honestly one of the prettiest smiles you’d seen and his dimples were so deep you wanted to reach up and poke them. But you didn’t.
The rules of the app were very simple. No inappropriate touching, no exchange of social media or phone numbers. Once the dates were over that was it unless you rented another one but only through the app.
“I should take you to see Cheonggyecheon River, a small walk down and we’ll be at the nicest cafes,” Hyunjin explained as he seemed to be enjoying this almost as much as you were,
“So why did you join the app?” You questioned as you looked at him, it had been a question on your mind since seeing him on the app.
“I needed the extra cash for art supplies...I’m studying at the moment so this seemed to be the perfect side job.” He explained as he began heading down some stairs towards a small river that ran through the city.
“Cheonggyecheon River,” You whispered as you looked around, it had only been something you’d seen in photos but now it was real.
“So you do art?” You questioned as you went back to looking up at Hyunjin while you walked.
“Yeah. I try to, I’m learning to draw, I thought it would be fun.” You smiled wanting to know more about it.
“Do you have any pictures?” He nodded as he sat down on an empty bench with you, pulling out his phone to show you photos of the drawings he’d been doing in his spare time.
“These are amazing! You did these?” You were truly shocked to see someone who was just learning to draw create amazing pieces as he had done. Some were anime characters, others were drawings of himself and another was a drawing of a dog.
“This is my favourite,” You told him as you looked at the Chihuhaha drawing he’d done,
“My little Kkami, I missed him so I drew him from a photo.” You smiled at the drawing again,
“Do you not get to see him much?” He shook his head as he looked out at the water.
“I live in a dorm with seven guys who are studying, Kkami is at home with my family.” Your heart clenched at the thought of him not getting to see his dog much,
“I’m sorry.” He shook his head at you, you had nothing to be sorry for.
“Don’t be, it makes the time I have with him all the more special. Shall we start to go?” You nodded getting up from the bench once more and heading in the direction he was leading you in.
Tumblr media
The two of you had gotten to know each other more on your walk over to the supermarket, getting to know about him and all his roommates that seemed adventurous.
“Felix came here at 2 am once just to get baking ingredients.” He laughed as he pushed the trolley around the store, adding things he thought you would enjoy as well as ingredients to make Kimchi with.
“Why was he baking at 2 in the morning?” You laughed adding some pasta products into the trolley, looking around at everything in shock. It was so much larger than any other supermarket you had been in and it was empty. Hardly anyone besides you and Hyunjin was around and there was soft music playing through some speakers.
“It’s Felix, who knows why he does what he does,” He laughed as he watched you. You were standing in front of ramen packets and he smirked a little,
“You could get the cups. They’ll be better for you and cheaper in price.” Thanking him you added a bunch into the trolley and smiled a little,
“Noodles are the only thing I can successfully cook.” You chuckled while Hyunjin shook his head at you,
“I need to give you cooking lessons but we’re almost out of the day...I can send you some cooking books if you like.” The thought of the day almost being over made you sad to think you’d never see him again.
“I could book you for another day? I would love to learn to cook from someone who’s lived here their whole life,” Yes. That was the reason. Totally not because every time he smiled or laughed your heart fluttered. Hyunjin’s heart seemed to flutter at the thought of getting to meet you again, although he was getting paid to hang out with you it didn’t feel forced. It felt natural to be around you as though he had known you for years and he couldn’t wait to do it all over again.
“Sure! We should get some ingredients to cook with tomorrow. Your Kimchi will stay good for three to six months if you keep it in the fridge and once you know-how. You’re pretty much great for everything,” You smiled before nodding. Both of you grabbing more and more ingredients for recipes you could freeze and add to the freezer.
Tumblr media
Laying in bed that night you couldn’t help but smile to yourself at the day you had. Hyunjin bought you home in a cab, helping you in with the bags before he helped you put everything away. You’d already paid him before he got home and booked another day together but none of it felt like a job or obligation to either of you. Hyunjin went home with a giant smile on his face having enjoyed the day much more than he had expected to.
“I told you that you’d have fun,” Chan said as he walked into the kitchen later that night to see Hyunjin couldn’t stop smiling.
“I had a lot, she’s amazing Hyung.” He explained as he began to pour himself some hot chocolate and get ready for a few hours of studying before bed.
“Just don’t get attached. The rules were simple Hyunjin.” He nodded as he headed back to his dorm room to find Felix sitting there waiting for everything that had happened that day.
Tumblr media
“Felix made cookies.” Was the first thing Hyunjin said to you as you opened the door to see him standing there. Today he was wearing a white t-shirt, a grey jacket and some shorts. It was the hottest day of the year.
“His famous ones?!” You asked a little too excitedly as you saw the Tupperware box filled to the brim with cookies all of different shapes and sizes.
“He was baking last night and he thought I could share them.” It was a lie. Hyunjin had practically begged Felix to bake you some the night before. He’d told you so much about them and he’d seen the look on your face when he mentioned them. He wanted you to try them.
“Tell him I said thanks,” You hummed as bit down into one of the cookies, instantly rolling your head back at the taste of them.
"He could run his own bakery, oh my goodness," Hyunjin smiled as he walked into the kitchen pulling out an apron he'd brought from the dorms and getting ready to help you cook.
"We'll start with the Kimchi, it'll be the best thing to start with and then whatever you're planning for your dinner." You nodded at him, finishing off the cookie before you washed up and pulled on an apron you'd gotten from the store yesterday.
Tumblr media
While you were chopping and washing up the ingredients Hyunjin was telling you everything you needed to do.
"You know you should be a chef...Or give out cooking classes." You told him as you began adding all of the ingredients together.
"I would give you five stars," He laughed softly as he looked at you,
"Like a Michelin chef?" You nodded at him as you continued to add everything together. Hyunjin laughing a little as he began to stir some of the stew he'd been making, scooping some up for you.
"You've reached the peak of taste, you'll never go back to normal food I promise." He laughed as you hummed at the taste of the stew.
"You'll have to take some home with you, there's no way I'll eat all this to myself." You mentioned as you stared at the huge stew pot he was cooking with.
"I'm sure the guys would love it," Hyunjin said before adding a little more spice to the stew and leaving it.
Tumblr media
The two of you camped out on your sofa for hours just spending time getting to know one another. He told you all about his life at the dorms while you told him about life back at home.
"Do you miss it?" He asked as he bit into one of the cookies and looked at you,
"Sometimes. I miss the people more than the place but it's home." You frowned thinking back on your time, it wasn't as though you were never going to go back again, but this was your life now.
"I suppose that's how it is with many people." He smiled weakly putting down his plate and looking at the time, he only had an hour left with you before he had to head home for the night.
"What are you doing tomorrow?" You shrugged your shoulders as you thought about it. Nothing was planned for at least a month, your job was waiting for some final paperwork to be done.
"Nothing that I know of,"
"Do you want to go to Seoul Tower, it's one of the best tourist spots. I think you'll enjoy it there," You smiled while nodding your head, wanting to spend all of the time in the world with Hyunjin. For as long as you could at least.
"Sure!" You smiled at him before going over to the stew to get everything put into smaller tubs for him to take home. The subject of payment was growing closer and neither of you wanted to feel awkward about talking about it again.
Tumblr media
"Hyunjin. You're growing attached," Chan warned as soon as Hyunjin stepped through the door that night. All eight of the boys were on the app to earn some extra cash and for them, it had been routine days out. A cafe, a shopping spree here and there but that was it. None of them ever spent so much time getting to know their clients or even cook with them.
"I'm not. She's just being a nice friend Hyung," He complained as he placed the stew down onto the counter. Calling out to the boys that there was food if anybody was hungry for it.
"She's a client Hyunjin. Nothing more." He rolled his eyes as he listened to Chan bring up the subject of the rules again.
"No exchanging numbers, social media or inappropriate touching. I know Hyung, Gosh what do you think we're doing? Fucking in some park?" He grumbled taking a cookie and heading for his bedroom. He didn't want to hear the same speech over and over again reminding him that he couldn't have you the way that he wanted. There were feelings growing between you and he knew he was never going to be able to act on them and it killed him inside.
Tumblr media
The days you spent together began to grow more and more and you forgot that this wasn't just friends hanging out together. That you were paying him for spending time with you. That was until the end of the night when you would wire transfer him the cash when he left leaving you both feeling awkward the next morning. Only for that to fade whenever you got on with the day that you had planned together. You'd seen almost every tourist attraction there. Hyunjin took you to Nami Island, ice cream dates, cafe dates, Seoul Tower and today you were going to Gyeongbokgung Palace.
"Everything okay? You seem quiet." He chuckled as you waited in line together to get tickets for the palace. Your eyes wandered up to him as you smiled weakly.
"Fine...I just can't wait to get in there." You lied not wanting to make anything between you more awkward than it had to be.
The palace was beautiful and filled with history Hyunjin couldn't wait to tell you about it. Explaining everything and tell you all of the facts he knew about the palace.
"Did you come here a lot?" You asked as you both sat down on some grass patches by one of the lakes. He'd brought along a picnic basket and a blanket for the two of you. The basket was filled with food he’d cooked and baked goods Felix had been forced to make once again,
“When I was a kid. I love history so I used to beg mum into taking me.” He laughed as he remembered all of the weekends he would spend there, learning about everything that he could.
“That’s amazing,” You smiled as he held up a spoon to your lips, spoon-feeding you some yoghurt he had bought along with him. You hummed letting him feed you when you looked around at different people around you. Lots of couples were doing the same thing as you both. Sitting together on the grass as they fed one another.
“Hey I was-” Hyunjin stopped speaking when you turned to look at him, neither of you realising how close you were to one another until your lips almost touched. Neither of you moved. You just stared at him, eyes flicking from his lips to his mouth your whole body aching to lean in and kiss him. But you didn’t. You sat there looking at him as he looked at you.
No one would have to know, he could just lean down and kiss you right now and no one would know about it. It wasn’t as though there were guards on the apps that tracked their every move. Placing down the spoon he looked at you, scooting closer to you as he watched to see if your facial expression changed at all. His right hand slowly rose to your face and he cupped your face in his hand, running his thumb along your bottom lip as you let out a small whimper.
“If I do this, there’s no going back.” You shrugged your shoulder. You didn’t want to go back. You wanted his lips on yours, you didn’t care about anything else.
Hyunjin pressed his lips against yours and instantly it was sweet yet filled with passion, your arms wrapped around the back of his neck as you kissed him back. Lips moving in sync with one another as he pulled you closer to him. The world around you faded away as you made out on the small patch of grass together, forgetting that he was paid to be there and you were renting him for the day. None of that mattered when you felt the way you did. Your whole body prickling with tingles as he kissed you. Lips parting and tongues touching. Everything around you was gone. All you cared about was this moment.
Tumblr media
After taking you home Hyunjin came in to have hot chocolate with you, well over his intended time limit and continued to kiss you. Cuddle you. Only making you yearn for him to stay longer but he had to go home. He had classes the next day.
“I don’t know when I’ll see you again,” You admitted as you stood by the front door of your apartment. Neither of you moving as you stared up at him. It was your last week before work and you could no longer afford to pay him. Though the subjects of paying for dates had gotten too weird for you and Hyunjin to talk about.
“I’m sure we’ll see each other around,” He sighed knowing he couldn’t give you his number or any way of contacting him outside of the app. He’d hoped he’d told you enough about his personal life for you to accidentally bump into one another somewhere.
“Hyunjin I think-” He kissed you softly not wanting you to finish the sentence. He was getting feelings for you too but admitting them out loud would make him stay and he couldn’t.
“I will see you around,” He whispered putting an emphasis on the “will” before he leant down to kiss you one last time. His hands on your waist as he smiled against your lips, pulling away and leaving you alone.
Tumblr media
Weeks passed by and Hyunjin saw no sign of you in any of the spots he had told you about, he even made an effort to walk by your apartment building every night home from classes but there was no sign of you.
“You’ve been so weird lately. Why haven’t you been going to see Y/n?” Felix grumbled as he rolled over in bed one night to see Hyunjin laying wide awake at almost 1 am. Just sitting there and staring at the top of the bunk bed he was under.
“I can’t...I have feelings for her and I didn’t want to keep taking her money.”  Crawling down from the top bunk Felix came to see Hyunjin. He was fully dressed and staring at the ceiling still.
“It’s creepy. Stop staring like that. Just go and “accidentally” bump into her...What’s the problem?” Hyunjin sat up and shook his head,
“You don’t think I’ve been trying that? I’ve been walking by her apartment building almost every night. Sitting in cafes...Maybe I was reading into it wrong.” Hyunjin’s phone flashed up and he darted toward it only to see it was an email from the Rent an Oppa app telling him that his account was deactivated.
“You quit?”
“I didn’t want to do it anymore.” He mumbled before getting up from the bed and grabbing a jacket,
“Where are you going? It’s almost 1:30?” Hyunjin said nothing as he left the bedroom.
Tumblr media
The account was gone and all that was left was a stupid message telling you that Hyunjin has left the account. Staring down at your phone you hated yourself for not messaging him sooner to arrange something. You had to see him again. For the last two weeks, you had been going to what he said was his favourite cafe and waiting for him. You’d do the paperwork for work there, read books. You’d been in there so much the owner knew you by name.
“I’ll make you some goodnight tea,” The elderly owner whispered as she walked over to your table. They were open 24 hours which was nice at times like this when you couldn’t get to sleep.
“Thank you,” You whispered as you went back to looking through the paperwork you had to finish. The job wasn’t what you expected it to be so you were trying to file paperwork whilst look for something else to do there.
“Nightcap for you too?” The elderly woman called out to someone who had just walked through the door. Frowning to yourself you glanced up to see a hoodied boy walk through the shop and stand at the counter.
“You’re not alone tonight. Someone else who can’t sleep,” The hoodied boy began to turn and as soon as you locked eyes your heart lept to your throat.
“Hyunjin?” You whispered to yourself as he began heading over to your table, eyes wide as he saw you sitting there.
“Fancy meeting you here,” He laughed as he sat down beside you, both of you just as happy to see each other.
“I-I’ve been coming here almost every day,” You admitted as he looked at you, hands finding yours and holding onto them as tightly as he could. He never would have thought you would come here, he’d only mentioned it once and how much it meant to him.
“I only told you about this place once,”
“I could see how much it meant to you...I thought I might catch you here and then we could...Go on a normal date.” He let out a breathy chuckle as he nodded his head.
“Sounds good to me. I’m paying.” He told you as he kissed your lips softly. All of a sudden all of those weeks away from one another melted into nothingness. It was just the two of you together once again giving you the freedom to date, exchange numbers and hang out without some pesky app or their rules in the way.

Ok, so it’s probably gonna be a while until the next chapter of help me out (I want to get the second arc mostly worked out before I post anything, like I did for arc one), so I figured I’d share this nonsense little thing I wrote one night while in a melatonin-induced fog.
So here’s a snippet of this Jonsa-tinder-fake-dating fic that I don’t actually have a plot for and therefore may never see the light of day but I liked it so I’m posting it!
(thanks to @jonsa-creatives for the header)
.
Can you believe this? Sansa had captioned the screenshot she sent to her friends.
Tinder isn't a thing Sansa does all the time – she and Margaery had set up an account for her two years ago after she and Harry split and she uses it occasionally. Sometimes it's nice looking at guys and even flirting with a few of them, though she's never had the nerve to go through with any meetups (she has left more than one guy on read after even the slightest hint they wanted to take things into the real world).
But this is new - or at least she's never seen it before.
His photo had made her pause in her bored swiping (curled up on her couch, blanket wrapped around her like an old woman, heating pad on her lower back, six different snacks on the coffee table that she had sampled and ultimately decided weren't doing it for her or her uterus). Most men on this app take terrible photos, or choose terrible photos, and honestly, this one is no different. At least he's cropped out whoever he's in the photo with, most guys don't even bother to do that. He's not smiling, holding a beer in one hand with his other arm around the cropped out person that is clearly a woman.
He is pretty, though.
She's gotta say, the man bun, the beard, the flannel shirt, the cheap beer – none of it should be doing anything for her. Maybe it's her hormones all out of whack, but for some reason, she paused on his photo.
It wasn't his photo, though, that made her screenshot the profile and send it in a group text to her friends. Can you believe this?
Jon, 29, it starts. Good, fine. Well within her acceptable age range. But the rest of it...
Looking for a date to a wedding. I'm not kidding. Must pretend to be my girlfriend. Some PDA required (holding hands, etc), but feel free to punch me in the face if you're ever uncomfortable. Or just tell me and I'll stop.
**Warnings**
-the bride is my ex and the groom is my half brother
-I am desperate not to show up alone to my ex's wedding
-my dad is a dick and he WILL try to hit on you
-I'm terrible in large groups, extrovert with good social skills preferred
-this will be a full weekend and it's unclear if I can get a room with two beds this last minute
-did I mention the wedding is the third weekend in May?
-I will buy you a new dress for the occasion. You actually won't have to pay for anything, though now that I type this it sounds like I'm looking for an escort and I think that's illegal?
Sansa stares at the profile for too long. Why has she not swiped left?
The first text from one of her friends comes in, followed quickly by more, her phone buzzing almost constantly.
-Omg do it
-He's hot!
-Ok you HAVE to go to this wedding, it sounds like something straight off of Maury
-Yes! Go and then live tweet it for the rest of us
-Am I the only one that thinks this sounds like a trap? Like she'll actually end up in someone's basement?
-Shhh Mya, you're ruining all the fun
-Free dress! Hot boy!
-I literally NEED to know how the ex & half brother happened. I might die if I don't
-Does he have more photos? That one's too blurry
-By “blurry”, Marg means she can't see if he's fit or not
Sansa switches back to Tinder and sees that he does, in fact, have another photo. It's definitely not the shirtless selfie Margaery is looking for, but it makes something in Sansa's chest tighten. Against her better judgment, she screenshots that, too, and sends it.
-Ok, so you've definitely swiped right on him then?
-Of course she has, when has Sansa ever been able to resist a cute dog? I've literally watched her stop mid convo to cross the street and pet a strangers dog. It's honestly rude
-Was it a match???
-PLEASE FIND OUT HOW THE EX AND THE HALF BROTHER ENDED UP TOGETHER
Sansa's heart is pounding in her chest, because she hasn't swiped on him, either way. And now, for some reason, she thinks if she swipes right and they aren't a match, she'll actually feel shitty about it. But she gathers what little courage she has, bolstered by the glass of wine she had with her snack sampling, and swipes right.
They're a match.

Getting to Know You
@tsshipmonth2020 (I hope it’s okay that I tag you even though September is over!!)
Day 23 - At a certain age you switch bodies with your soulmate for 24 hours.
Ship: Romantic Analogicality (platonic Prinxiety hijacked it)
Warnings: Don’t think there are any.
Word count: 1919 (better than 2020 amirite)
Summary: When Virgil woke up on the day of his eighteenth birthday, he wasn’t sure what to expect, but it definitely wasn’t to find another person in bed with him.
(He’s very glad to realize that it’s just a dog.)
When Virgil woke up on the day of his eighteenth birthday, he (they? No, he right now) wasn’t sure what to expect.
He’d written out a detailed schedule of what his day was like – no meetups with friends, a very small birthday celebration with immediate family (that his possible soulmate could opt out of, if they wanted). If he didn’t switch with a soulmate, he’d probably text some of his friends and spend some time with them, but he didn’t want to overwhelm his soulmate by having too many social events in a body and possibly town that they weren’t familiar with.
So when he woke up on his birthday, the first thing he registered was that he wasn’t alone in bed.
He stiffened – who was in bed with him? Why? Did he switch with his soulmate? Would Virgil have to have a very uncomfortable conversation with the person next to him?
Suddenly, he felt something cold and wet bump his face. He opened his eyes to come very close to a dog’s nose. He relaxed as the weight in his bed shifted as the large brown dog excitedly licked his face, putting its front paws on top of his chest.
“Hi,” he said, an unfamiliar smile spreading across his face. “What’s your name, huh? How are you?” He was a little startled by the voice coming out of his mouth, forgetting that he wasn’t in his normal body.
He was startled by an alarm going off on his phone. It was some peppy music – something pop, maybe? Virgil wasn’t really sure. He picked up the phone to turn off the alarm, interested in learning more about his soulmate. He felt vaguely guilty about going through another person’s things without their permission, but it was a commonly known thing that once you turned eighteen you had to be ready to switch at any time; you had to accept that someone else would see into your life and essentially be you for a day. It was probably okay that he was looking at his soulmate’s lock screen.
His soulmate’s lock screen was a picture of kittens and puppies piled on top of each other, sleeping. Virgil couldn’t help the tiny smile that spread across his face when he saw the picture. It was cute – a little bit clichĂ©, maybe, but cute.
He was startled out of his thoughts by someone knocking on the door. “Pat?” a voice asked as Virgil sat up ramrod straight, startled. “You okay? Normally you’ve fed Rosie by now.”
Virgil opened his mouth to respond and paused. He wasn’t sure exactly how much this person knew about Patton, or how close they were; maybe they were a total stranger or something.
Then Virgil thought about what the other person had said. If Pat and this other person were complete strangers, the other person probably wouldn’t be commenting on Pat’s daily routine.
“Uh- this isn’t Pat,” Virgil called, hoping the sound would be heard through the door.
“What?”
There was a pause, then a high-pitched squeal.
“Oh my god, you’re his soulmate!!”
Virgil got up and self-consciously opened the door, the phone in his hand. “Yeah. Um- do you know the passcode to his phone? I want to text myself and get to know him.”
The other person was wearing a white t-shirt and red pajama shorts. They were beaming, rocking back and forth on their toes. “Give it here,” they demanded, grabbing the phone out of Virgil’s hand. They quickly tapped the screen, unlocking the phone and opening the messaging app. “Here you go,” they said, handing the phone back. Virgil took it, absently putting a hand on the door to close it. “My name’s Roman,” they said, interrupting Virgil in the middle of thinking about what his first text to his soulmate would be. “He/him pronouns. I’m Patton’s brother, and roommate.”
“Virgil, he right now, I guess his soulmate,” Virgil murmured back distractedly, chewing the inside of his cheek.
“I see that your attention is divided at the moment. I can take care of Rosie for now, and we can talk more later.”
“Yeah,” Virgil said, looking up as he closed the door slightly. “Thanks.” It wasn’t that he didn’t like Roman; he was just very energetic and too happy for how early in the morning it was.
Virgil toyed with the phone case as he debated what to send. It was a light blue rubbery material, with little ears and paws to make it look like an owl. It matched the rest of Patton’s room – in varying shades of blue, with lots of light, fluffy pillows on the floor around the bed. There were lots of pictures around the room, and a few happy quotes taped to the walls.
He looked down to the app, tapping his phone number into the “New Message” box.
Hi Patton, this is Virgil, your soulmate.
He sent it off, then put the phone down, being careful that the screen didn’t turn off. Was that okay? What if it came off too strong? What if his soulmate hated him and didn’t want a soulmate at all and was angry that he had to be in another person’s body for a day and now Virgil was saying that he needed a soulmate and-
His panicked thoughts were cut off by the phone buzzing as a new message came in.
This is interesting, as I am not Patton and this is not my phone number. I am, however, messaging with another person named Patton, who is currently in my body.
Virgil’s breath caught as he read the message. If he was in Patton’s body
and Patton was in another person’s body
and this other person was in his body

It must be a three-way soulbond. That was the only explanation.
Okay.
We must be in a three-way bond. Can you put us all in a group chat so we can all get to know each other maybe? No pressure or anything but I think it might be nice?
Hopefully that wasn’t too overbearing or demanding. He absentmindedly bit his thumb, noting on some level that Patton was wearing nail polish. He tried his hardest not to mess up the lilac color while still getting out some of his nervousness.
Of course. One moment.
Virgil took a deep breath, relaxing back into the wall as he pulled his legs up onto the bed with him. He waited for the group text to come through.
Patton, this is a group chat with Virgil, who is currently in your body.
The phone next to him dinged as the person in Virgil’s body sent a message to the chat.
Hi Virgil!! This is Patton, I use he/him pronouns!!
Virgil smiled slightly. I use he or they. He right now but that might change.
There was a brief pause, then another message came through.
My name is Logan. I am currently exploring different pronouns, but he/him is sufficient for the moment.
Virgil bit his lip, fingers quickly tapping at the keyboard. Let me know if you ever want to talk or want help with that, I’ve been there and it’s not too fun.
Thank you. I appreciate the offer.
Virgil smiled slightly as he read the next text – from Patton, this time. I’ve never been through that but I’m so proud of both of you for being yourselves and opening up!! <3
There was a short pause, then the phone vibrated again. I hope that’s okay that I sent a heart, I send them platonically to my friends all the time, but I know it’s a little different since we’re soulmates, so I can totally stop if you want!!
You’re fine, Virgil sent. It almost overlapped with Logan sending a message of affirmation as well.
<3 <3 Yay!!! <3 <3 <3 Patton sent. It made Virgil smile – Patton seemed so happy, so upbeat, a contrast to Virgil, whose emo aesthetic didn’t mesh too well with happiness, and Logan, who he didn’t know much about yet but seemed relatively no-nonsense and formal.
He was startled out of his thoughts by Roman knocking on the door. “Virgil? How are you doing?”
Virgil looked up to meet Roman’s eyes and noted the wickedly sharp eyeliner on his face. “Good. Turns out it’s a three-way bond, so another person’s in my body and Patton’s in theirs.”
Roman nodded slowly. “That sounds fun to navigate.” He hesitated. “I
actually haven’t had a soulmate switch yet. I’m almost twenty-five, so
I’m not sure if I will have a switch? Ever?”
Virgil shifted slightly awkwardly. “I’m
sorry? To hear that?” He offered. He wasn’t sure what the proper response should be in this situation – someone who was basically a stranger was telling him something intensely personal.
Roman gave him a small smile. “I’m just saying, I might not understand it, but I know Patton’s been looking forward to this since he turned eighteen. It’s been a bit since then, but he
 I don’t know. He’s excited.”
Virgil ducked his head. “I
 thanks. I guess. Yeah.”
Roman clapped a hand on his shoulder. “Tell you what. How about you get dressed, then we can go out and spend the day getting you caught up on Patton.”
Virgil nodded slowly. “I- I do want to keep texting them though?”
“Of course, I wouldn’t make you stop doing that.”
“Okay.”
There was a brief silence, then Virgil spoke up.
“Do you know where he keeps his things? I don’t want to see any stuff he wouldn’t want me to see- I guess?”
Roman made a silent “oh” face. “Of course,” he said. He entered the room, pulling open some of the drawers from the dresser. “Underwear in here, pants here, shirts here, socks next to the underwear, sweaters up here, and any accessories down here. If you feel like makeup or doing anything with your hair, let me know and I’ll show you where that is.” He paused for a moment. “If I may ask
what is your usual aesthetic in your own body?”
Virgil gave him a little smirk. “Emo,” he said.
Roman’s eyes went wide with amusement. “Oh, that is hilarious,” he said, laughing a little bit. “Patton is the softest, fluffiest person you will ever meet, I cannot believe he’s bonded to an emo of all things.”
Virgil couldn’t help but smile. “Yeah,” he said. “I kinda guessed by the room.”
“Anyway,” Roman continued, “What I was saying is that you are welcome to
get as close as you can to your
typical aesthetic, I suppose. It may be difficult, I’m not sure if Patton even owns any colors darker than red, but
 it’s worth a try.”
Virgil stopped his hand from reaching out to squeeze Roman’s shoulder. “Thanks,” he said quietly.
“I’ll leave you alone now,” Roman said.
“Thank you,” Virgil repeated, giving into his instinct to touch Patton’s brother as he grabbed his hand to pull him back. “For everything. I
 really appreciate it.”
Roman grinned, squeezing his hand before releasing it. “Of course. It’s what Patton would want. And, of course, my naturally chivalrous nature also dictated that I should-“
“Oh hush,” Virgil laughed, pushing him out of the room. As he gently closed the door to Patton’s bedroom, he couldn’t help but keep smiling, a relatively new experience for him.
Roman seemed incredibly nice and supportive, especially for someone who appeared to be struggling with his soulmate status.
And his actual soulmates?
Well, they were already his whole world.

The best breeds of dog are obviously subjective. But some breeds have tendencies that may be easier for first time dog owners, more so than others. When it comes to adopting this is something to consider. It’s difficult to decide among all of the breeds and mixes of breeds out there but here is a good list to start if you’re considering a new family member.

Have you ever met a guy for coffee? No. I do remember having a public speaking class in college where one of our assignments was to be paired with another person in the class and have sort of like a meetup with them outside of class hours to practice our ~social skills. I happened to be paired with a guy and right after our short meetup he texted me if I’d be free for coffee. I said yes as long as my girlfriend was coming over, then he stopped replying entirely lmao.
Do you have a twitter?   I do. It used to be my favorite social media since people always shared interesting stuff there, but when lockdown started and we all had to stay home, there understandably wasn’t much to tweet about anymore and so it’s gotten a little boring and I’m ready to admit that I check the app much much less now.
How often do you get called on your home phone?   We get a ring at least once a day because my grandma likes checking up on us.
Do you watch any television shows on USA?   I mean, I technically used to. Back when I was younger and my schedule was a lot more loose, I would watch an online livestream of the USA Network airing WWE Raw. Except that while my American friends would watch it Monday nights, I was watching the same live show but on Tuesday morning.
Do you feed your leftovers to your dogs? I wouldn’t call it leftovers. We designate a certain portion of our food for them the same way we designate portions for ourselves.
Do you like salt on your popcorn? I prefer buttered popcorn, but I wouldn’t mind salt on mine either.
Would you rather watch the Olympics or the X-Games? I’m not interested in either but I guess I’d go with the Olympics since there are more countries involved and the production value that goes into it, especially during the opening ceremonies, is awesome. I personally don’t enjoy watching extreme sports so I think I might find the X-Games a little boring.
What tricks does your pet do? Not much ha, but Kimi knows to stand up (though I think most dogs know this) and to wait for me to finish pouring his food into his bowl. Cooper knows stand up, shake hands, and give high-fives.
Do you believe in psychics?   No, but I still might visit one just for shits and giggles one day. < All this. It’s bullshit but I’m willing to fuck around once just to see how a psychic can mess with my head lol.
When you hear the name “Ginger” what do you think of? I think of the cuddly cat that likes to hang out in our college that the students like to call Ginger because he’s orange. I know the faculty likes to call him another name but I’ve been out of school for so long I don’t remember the name anymore :( Anyway, Ginger’s one of like three cats I’ve ever genuinely liked because he was so sociable, super chill, an was always ready to lie on my lap or backpack whenever he spots me working nearby.
How often do you use Facebook?   Everyday, for the memes. I deactivated this morning, though. I do so from time to time.
What is the fanciest restaurant you have been to?   I’ve been in fancy restaurants with my family, but the fanciest ones I’ve been to on a date were always in BGC. I never really took note of the names because they were always lengthy Italian titles fhfjhjkjfhf but they were all so nice and the service was always so *chef’s kiss*
How did your Valentine’s Day go?   We didn’t do anything on Feb 14 itself but the day before, she came over to my school and got me a street food bouquet – barbecue, chicken isaw, pig isaw. Then we had to stay at the college for a while because my org was actually running an event that afternoon, but when that was over I think we had dinner at like Mama Lou’s maybe? and then had ice cream at Mad Mark’s. It was a nice evening.
Do you like Shawn and Gus from Psych?   I’ve never heard of them or what Psych is.
What is the worst damage that your car has seen?   Nothing worse than a mild fender bender. Fortunately I haven’t been in any serious accidents.
Who is your least favorite character on your favorite television show? My least favorite on The Crown would be King Edward lol though I did dislike him even before the show. My least favorite on Friends is Emily Waltham.
Have you gotten sick this year?   Yes, back in May. That was such a weird, random UTI/fever...
When was the last time you got a new ringtone?   I never got myself ringtones, even back then when downloading or buying them was super popular. I liked sticking to what my phone already provides.
Have you ever peed yourself from laughing?   I don’t think so.
Is your last name well known in your town?   My last name is common-ish in terms of popularity. In terms of notability, I would say my middle name is well-known in our home province because we have family running the office in that province.
What was the last thing that annoyed you?   Preparing so much for my job interview and getting my answers to sound perfect, only for the CEO to ask me a bunch of shit about journalism and my thesis when my application is for a marketing position. I was thrown the fuck off and I did NOT like that feeling lmao
When was the last time you sent a picture message?   Yesterday. [found at quarantin3surv3ys]

Coronapocalypse; Diary of a Pandemic
Tumblr media
It's been a bit longer than a week since my first account of this rather historic event (not posted on here sorry). On my way to my hotel job, far less cars navigated the roads and passed a greater number of empty parking lots.  On a day like this, I'd be out for a walk or possibly doing some writing at Panera; yet today I simply stayed put at home. Escapes to cafes, to movie theaters, or my favorite Korean place are now a shadow of the past.  Gatherings with friends, hugs, and parties have been replaced with virtual meetups, air hugs, and live feeds.  Break room chats with coworkers have transformed into group chats on our phones. My ice skating conditioning has been relocated to my living room where there's always a risk of running into my coffee table.  We wave from car or home windows to the occasional person walking their dog.  We're exploring new passions, taking on new challenges, and delving into show after show in order to stay sane and not succumb to boredom.  Sites and apps like TikTok, Tumblr, Facebook, Snapchat, and Whatsapp have surged in popularity because we celebrate togetherness in our isolation and social distancing.  On news feed after news feed, I still see people begging others (non essentials) to STAY HOME and wash their hands, for the message just doesn't seem to get across.  Many states have been in a period of quarantine, however some have not complied.   Headlines highlighting the latest Corona related deaths top my morning news briefings. Acts of unspeakable violence have been bestowed upon innocent Asians due to certain lower than scum people referring to this as the 'Chinese virus'. The summer Olympics, Adult Nationals, movie premiers, and more have been postponed to later dates. My dear readers, the world as we know it is changing everyday and will not return to the way that it was.
The Cocoon and The Butterfly
Tumblr media
In my last Corona entry, I wrote a lot about how I want to look towards the sun and believe in hope.  I made plans to emerge from this quarantine as my greatest self. I took on several 30 Day Challenges..not just one..they range from fitness, writing, self confidence, mindfulness, and more. I had this epiphany to use this time to work on myself and explore the option of becoming the person I wish to be.  I wanted to emerge as a butterfly from its cocoon so to speak. I tend to be a very 'Go Big' kind of woman hence why I decided to take on several of the challenges.  Having this to motivate and give my life a bit more meaning started off pretty well.  My mood stayed pretty high while my legs initially felt like jello, but I'm sure it'll all pay off. I felt more aware of myself, calm in my own space, and overall happier.
The dark cloud lingers...
Tumblr media
There is a dark cloud that likes to persevere and hang over me like a veil of heaviness.  There are times where no matter how excited I am, I just feel unmotivated or blah.  My depression sky rocketed the other day where it manifested into NOTHING motivating me and several attacks.  Perhaps it's due to me suppressing it or still holding the energy of the world, but it took a long time for it to lift.  Movies I loved, the Sims, writing, music, everything that I thought would help didn’t.  Thanks to a refreshing shower with relaxing essential oils and coconut shampoo, I felt the cloud start to evaporate.  It wasn't until I discovered a site offering free online courses did it finally disappear. So now in addition to my 30 Day Challenges, I'm taking on 10 online courses ranging from psychology, creative writing, music, and astrobiology.  Yes astrobiology, the study of possibly life on other planets and galaxies.  As a lunar crazy space enthusiast, I couldn’t wait to dive right into it. Then I saw ones for creative writing, ones for achieving happiness, ones for art therapy, and then next thing you know I’m signed up for 10. Some of these are taught by well esteemed college professors, plus once again they’re free and I couldn’t choose just one.
Laney, you've gone mad, haven't you?
Tumblr media
If embarking on a quest to give my life more meaning constitutes as madness, then yes guilty as charged.  Have I taken too much onto my plate? With only a few days of actual work, I have the rest of the time to fill.  I’m still suffering a bit from my writers block and there are only so many hours I can watch Netflix or Amazon.  Plus, I have a great passion for learning and broadening my range of knowledge. For the remainder of my Corona quarantine, I will leave this cocoon as a better, smarter, and more confident version of myself...I pity the fool who tries to stop me. FYI I’m not belittling anyone who is using this quarantine time to rest and focus on self care.I encourage all of you to do what’s best for YOU. Plus I’m just weird after all and like to take on difficult challenges.  If you’d like to join me or taking quests of your own, please share! Let’s support our conquests and celebrate successes...even if they’re baby steps.
Stay safe, stay home, wash your hands, practice social distancing, and remember to take care of yourselves.
