NGO FOR CHILDERN WELFARE IN LUCKNOW
After many years of experience the reality at ground zero level and the root cause of child labour is poverty. Children are forcefully sent to work at these toxic places by their parents, so that they can earn money for the family. They are forced to work for a stretch of not less than 9-10 hours only to be given bare minimum money with no food supplies. As a child care NGO working to elevate each child from the crunches of this social evil, Hum Sab Ne Ye Thana Hai, Baal Majdoori Ko Hatana Hai. We aim to put this into execution by means of our regular rescue programs that are tailored to stop the supply of children for child labour by sending them to schools or educate them by giving combine calsses and also address the most pressing needs of the victims of child labour.

Chapter Seven
Read from the beginning
Also on Wattpad
Chapter Six> < > Epilogue
Stray dogs lazed around, with the sun’s rays kissing them gently. A lone car drove by.
Hari Prakash yawned discreetly.
Khushi knew he had a barrage of questions for her. After all, she had woken him up to drive her an hour before the actual timing!
But she couldn’t tell him what even she didn’t know yet….
Even now, she knew it was a gamble to assume Arnav would be there just because Aman mentioned once that he always liked to be in the office before his employees.
What an odd man!
——————
Her cold hands knocked on his cabin door.
“Come in, Aman “
Hesitating at that, Khushi took another moment before going in.
He sat hunched over a piece of paper, while a bunch of files lay haphazardly around him.
A strand of hair marred his forehead, his eyes scrunched with focus.
He finally looked up, dropping his pen as he stood up.
“Khushi?”
“I wanted to ask you about yesterday “
He bit his lip and she resisted the urge to blush at the action.
“So Miss Gupta. You are here an hour early because you wanted to ask me about….?”
“Yesterday “ she repeated innocently.
“What about it?” He pushed the files aside.
“You left me without saying a word-“
“I did say a word”
“ ‘No’ doesn't count!” She almost scolded before seeing the smirk on his face.
Realising he was wearing her thin, he put up his hands in surrender.
“Okay, I admit I was not expecting the news”
“And what about dinner?”
“Your father got the deal, didn’t he tell you?” He stepped around his table and walked up to her.
“So you and your dad came to dinner to celebrate the deal?” She frowned.
“Smart girl, “ he whispered.
“How dare y-?”
He cut her off with an arm around her waist as she was pulled up against him.
“What are you doing?”she gasped.
“What I have been wanting to do since you sat there sipping whisky, dancing and wearing that dress which made me want to rip it right off you”
His husky whisper made her shiver.
“Arnav” she moaned as he pulled her closer.
“Khushi” he whispered as his nose nudged hers.
Their eyes caught each other for a moment . A moment before he kissed her.
She clutched his shirt as he kissed her softly. Tenderly. Her knees trembled. Her hands shook with desire. She parted her lips, and he thrust in letting his tongue twirl around hers.
Too much. This was too much.
Sensing her need to breathe , he let her lips go. But there was no respite as he kissed hotly down her throat. She felt feverish with lust when his hand wrapped around her breast.
“God” she called out.
“Arnav “ he corrected cheekily.
He claimed her lips again. Another swift kiss later, they held each other as their breathing calmed.
“Breakfast?”he grinned.
——————
The majestic view of Lucknow glittered, as Khushi sat on the beautiful terrace of an English breakfast place. They seemed to be the only customers this early in the morning.
She wondered vaguely about Arnav vanishing as soon as he drove them here.
What’s taking him so long?
She looked around again, smiling when she caught sight of him.
“Where have you been?”
“Oh, Aman called for something “
The waiter set down the pancakes and bowls of banana yoghurt.
Arnav grabbed the teapot and started pouring it into her cup, his hands trembling slightly.
“Arnav?”
His eyes melted something in her. She was used to the devilish glint in them. This new vulnerability he was unravelling for her to see, made her heart flutter.
“Khushi I….” He looked around nervously.
He shuffled his pocket before he set something on the table.
A flask of whiskey. Her flask of whisky.
She looked at him in disbelief, as he smiled helplessly.
“I stole for the first time in my life because of you Khushi Gupta “
He gently took her hands in his own.
“ I meant what I said….You had me smitten the moment I saw you”
Khushi didn’t know what to say. He was saying what she had wished deep in her heart for him to feel. The desire for him had grown even without her realising.
“I had confided in my father to ask the Guptas for your hand in marriage”
“What?!” She felt a strange joy in the pit of her stomach.
“Yes Khushi. But he wanted me to wait because he felt your family would feel pressured. You know because of the new venture?......I had to convince myself to wait, and yet when you came that day all, looking all guilty…”
“You took the hotel projects away from the Khandelwals?”
“It was never theirs” he flashed her a sardonic smile.
“My brother-in-law, Shyam leaked the false news to the media. He knew dad hates to be known as someone unsure of his decision. So he thought if it was announced that Rocky had the contract, we would be forced to give him the contract!”
“Your sister knew?”
“Of course she did” bitterness clouding his voice.
“She values that crook of her husband more than dad”
“I am sorry Arnav “
“It’s fine Khushi. If Di wants to be with him, I am no one to interfere. She is an adult after all,”
“I guess” she sighed.
“Now there’s no reason to wait”
“To wait?”
Arnav stood up, his face set in tense lines.
He kneeled down, his hands holding a velvet box.
Khushi gasped.
He opened the box to reveal the most beautiful diamond encrusted in a gleaming gold band.
Her eyes filled with tears, as she raised a trembling hand to her lips.
“Khushi Gupta, wise men say only fools rush in, but I can’t help falling in love with you!”
She giggled, “Elvis Presley! Really?”
He smiled.
“You are an orphic mystique, Khushi. The moment I saw you, I felt…something beyond me. I want to spend the rest of my life with you. Will you please do the honour of marrying me?”

Loss
Sadaqat lived in the city of Lucknow with her husband, Rajnish. Both of them had married each other three years ago against the wishes of their families, who had objected to their union because they belonged to different communities. The couple had been in love since they were in college. This romance lasted four years before they decided to take the next step by getting married. Now the time was right to take another step toward strengthening their relationship by having a baby. They both had reached the age of 26 and were ready both financially and mentally for having children. They had been trying for their first baby for some time and Sadaqat had received the good news from her ob-gyn today that she was 3 months pregnant. She was now driving back home in her Datsun Go and was thinking of ways to break the news to her husband.
When Sadaqat reached the apartment complex she and Rajnish called home, she noticed that her husband had already come home from work because his Honda motorcycle was in its parking spot. “Huh, that's strange,” she thought. She never knew that her husband's work could end this early. When she went up the door, it was locked from outside, but the padlock belonged to a brand that the couple didn't use. “What the heck? What's going on?” she said to herself. The strange situation at home was giving her every reason to ask that question.
There was a folded piece of paper stuck behind the deadbolt on the door. Sadaqat grabbed it and unfolded the paper. Inside the paper was a message addressed to her and Rajnish, which said, “Hello, Rajnish and Sadaqat. We know you two have been living a blissful life. But we really wish you didn't. We really wish that you two never met and fell in love. We wanted you two to marry within your communities. Now that you cannot do that, we have decided to destroy this relationship and marriage you have built on nothing but sins. One of you is now dead and his or her headless body is lying by the local riverbank. That body is also probably being eaten by stray dogs. We think none of you deserves the dignity of having an intact body. The head of the body has been taken with us and will be buried at a location we will not tell you. Regards, the Jamil family and the Singh family.” The note then featured some of the symbols of both of their communities.
Sadaqat was shaking after she finished reading the message. Her heartbeat had become faster and sweat drops were forming on her body to cool the increased temperature down. “My… Rajnish… Is he dead?!” she could ask herself only this much. She was in complete shock. She dropped the paper and covered her mouth in disbelief. Tears were starting to appear in front of her eyes. She didn't know what she was doing now and she didn't know what to do later either. Her entire world had come to an end suddenly today.
The shocking news of Rajnish’s murder had made Sadaqat forget that she was carrying inside her womb some very precious cargo. This life that was in her womb was also at the risk of being harmed if the mother experienced extreme emotions like what she was experiencing right now. In the first trimester, a mother was required to stay calm and not feel any kind of stress. But she was currently under a lot of stress and was definitely not calm. She was panicking and her heartbeat was now faster than normal. Everything was going wrong in her life at that precise moment. The only person she still had in her life was her unborn baby, who was unluckily being attacked by strong emotions that his or her mother was feeling.
But soon enough, within mere minutes of reading that message about Rajnish’s murder, Sadaqat’s unborn baby also decided to leave her. She began to feel cramps on her lower back. These were intense enough to make her grab the place where she was feeling them. Then, suddenly, a sensation of wetness appeared in the middle of her legs around her womanhood. She looked down and saw what every pregnant woman didn't want to see in the first trimester. There was a flow of blood from her vagina that had started staining the pants she was wearing. Then, out of nowhere, she felt an urge to vomit. She covered her mouth, but soon the lower end of her abdomen began to cramp. She couldn't hold the flood of vomit anymore and spewed that day’s lunch right outside her home.
Sadaqat now felt tired and dizzy. She couldn't stand anymore, but was in no mood to fall in the pool of her own vomit. She trudged away from the door of her home, but couldn't make it very far before she fell on the ground. She could feel the life that resided in her womb leaving her. She couldn't do anything to save that special person. Her vagina was releasing whatever that special person was made up of. She couldn't exactly see what was going on between her legs anymore, but could feel the wet area growing larger. The flow of organic waste from that region had started to smell foul.
Unfortunately for Sadaqat, her trouble hadn't ended. The loss of such a large volume of blood had made her weak and she was starting to get jittery. She was gasping for breath. She needed medical attention immediately, but there was no one nearby who could help her. Suddenly, she closed her eyes and couldn't open them again. The young family made up of Rajnish, Sadaqat and their unborn baby ended up reuniting somewhere. Their story came to an end before it could even begin.

Yesterday a buddy and I were walking around looking for some street dogs to feed. Nothing fancy, just some glucose biscuits. It’s less about the feeding and more about interacting with happy dogs. There on the street were parked a few manual cycle rickshaws (as against the new battery-rickshaws or electric rickshaws that you see more commonly now in Lucknow). The rickshaws are usually there most evenings because that’s where some manual-rickshaw drivers spread their blankets and sleep in the open. It’s part of the landscape for me and I barely notice the poor people cooking or sleeping in the open. Yesterday there was an old rickshaw guy sitting alone, eating rice from a polythene bag. He was scrawny, had a few days of white stubble, wore a yellowed T-shirt that was white once upon a time and was full of holes. He sat on a tattered blanket, picked each bite with his bare hands slowly and put it in his mouth and looked blankly at nothing in particular.
My friend played with the dogs. I didn’t. I stood and watched him. When she was done and came back I pointed at the guy and asked her what made him go from one day to another? What did he look forward to in life? I wondered how a man could be so abjectly poor and hungry right next to where I was standing next to my car, feeding packs of biscuits to dogs? The India story of progress and economic growth and military assertion and digitalisation - where is it going wrong? Is it going wrong or is this just how it’ll always be, no matter how well the economic indicators become?
Two days ago the District Magistrate (DM) of the district Saharanpur in U.P. posted a picture on Twitter where he’s rewarding an old farmer whose one hand is completely disabled and the other has just 4 fingers. The old bent farmer grew Napier grass in his farm all alone in more than 40 degree (centigrade not Fahrenheit) heat. The grass is apparently some super food for cattle. Anyway, the DM very proudly tags the chief minister, the chief secretary and a bunch of other people on Twitter to proclaim his pride - in rewarding the poor farmer a check of Rs. 151/-
Yes, hundred and fifty-one Indian rupees.
That’s less than two dollars.
The old farmer could buy maybe 3 litres of milk or maybe 250 grams of raw chicken or perhaps 3 kgs of flour with that money. Not all of these things, just one of them. But first he’d need to deposit the check in a bank account. And then write a check to withdraw it. I wonder if he has a bank account.
Is this the kind of sensitivity that one can expect from the government and its functionaries? The same DM famously celebrated his dog’s birthday lavishly a few days ago.
“If they have no bread, let them eat cake” comes to mind.
Here’s the link to that story
https://www.weeklyblitz.net/news/saharanpur-dm-gave-a-reward-of-rs-151-to-farmer-trolled-on-social-media-deletes-tweet-jay-saharanpur-dm-gave-a-reward-of-rs-151-to-the-farmer-people-said/
My friend saw I was affected as I stood there watching the old rickshaw puller eat his plastic bag meal, so she went and talked to him. He told her where he was from, how often he went home, how often he ate, where he slept and where he drove his cycle rickshaw. I listened. Couldn’t say a word. Why is this affecting me so much? Poverty is all around me. It doesn’t affect me much. Then why this? Is it because I like food and I enjoy cooking and eating it, and therefore hunger and the inability to afford nutritious food affects me more that the inability to afford clean clothes or a roof?
In any case, the point of this story is not my feelings and triggers. The point is this human indignity that’s all around me. What do I do? Tell me.

Make Your Spine Healthy: Essential Tips and Exercises for a Strong, Pain-Free Back
Maintaining a healthy spine is crucial for a life free from back pain and mobility issues. With increasing sedentary lifestyles and the rise of desk jobs, back problems have become more common, often leading to severe conditions like lumbar disc prolapse or spinal stenosis. Fortunately, several preventive measures can keep your spine healthy. If you're experiencing back pain, seeking advice from a spine surgeon in Lucknow, such as the experts at Axis Spine Centre, can offer effective treatments and solutions.
Here’s how to keep your spine healthy, the importance of stretching, and when to consult a spine specialist.
1. Understanding the Structure and Function of Your Spine
The spine is a complex structure of bones (vertebrae), discs, nerves, and muscles that work together to provide support and mobility. It is divided into sections:
Cervical spine (neck region)
Thoracic spine (upper and mid-back)
Lumbar spine (lower back)
Sacral spine (connected to the pelvis)
Why Is Lumbar Health Important? The lumbar region is especially prone to conditions like lumbar disc prolapse and spinal stenosis, often due to aging, poor posture, or injury. This is the region that supports most of our body’s weight, making it particularly vulnerable to wear and tear.
2. Common Spine Conditions and Their Symptoms
Several spinal conditions can lead to pain and limited mobility, including:
Lumbar Disc Prolapse: A condition where the cushioning disc between the vertebrae slips out, pressing on nearby nerves, causing severe lower back pain and even sciatica.
Spinal Stenosis: The narrowing of spaces within the spine, which can compress nerves and cause pain, numbness, or weakness, particularly in the lower body.
When to Seek Medical Help If you experience persistent back pain, numbness in the legs, or difficulty in movement, it’s essential to consult a spine surgeon in Lucknow. The Axis Spine Centre offers specialized treatments and assessments to address these issues effectively.
3. Importance of Stretching for Spine Health
Regular stretching is key to maintaining spine flexibility and strength. It helps relieve pressure on the spine, improves blood circulation, and promotes healthy muscle function.
Some beneficial stretches for spine health include:
Cat-Cow Stretch: This gentle, flowing movement is great for mobilizing the spine and relieving tension.
Hamstring Stretch: Tight hamstrings can contribute to lower back strain. Loosening them helps relieve pressure on the lower spine.
Knee-to-Chest Stretch: This stretch is effective for alleviating lower back tension, helping to decompress the lumbar spine.
Tip: Incorporate these stretches into your daily routine to promote spine health. Even 10 minutes a day can make a difference.
4. Exercises for a Strong Spine
Building core strength is essential for spine health, as the core muscles support the spine. Here are some effective exercises:
Planks: Strengthens the core without putting pressure on the spine.
Pelvic Tilts: Helps relieve lower back tightness.
Bird Dog Exercise: Strengthens the back, glutes, and core muscles to promote spine stability.
Reminder: Avoid exercises that strain the lower back. Always consult a spine specialist or physical therapist before starting new exercises, especially if you have existing back issues.
5. Lifestyle Tips for Spine Health
Healthy habits play a significant role in spine health. Here are a few tips:
Maintain Good Posture: Avoid slouching, which can strain the spine over time.
Take Frequent Breaks: If you sit for long periods, take breaks every 30 minutes to stand up, stretch, and move around.
Sleep Right: Sleeping on your back or side with a supportive mattress can help keep the spine aligned.
Lift Properly: When lifting heavy objects, bend at the knees rather than the waist, and keep the object close to your body to avoid straining the back.
6. When to See a Spine Specialist
While preventive measures and exercises can keep your spine healthy, sometimes professional intervention is needed. Chronic back pain, sudden numbness, or difficulty moving may indicate a more severe condition like lumbar disc prolapse or spinal stenosis.
Spine Surgeon in Lucknow For those in Lucknow, consulting a specialist at Axis Spine Centre can make all the difference. With expert diagnostics, tailored treatment plans, and surgical options when necessary, Axis Spine Centre is equipped to address spine issues effectively. Early intervention by a specialist can prevent minor issues from becoming chronic and debilitating conditions.
Conclusion
Keeping your spine healthy involves a combination of exercises, stretches, and lifestyle habits. Regular stretching, strengthening exercises, and good posture can go a long way in maintaining spine health. However, if you experience ongoing pain or discomfort, don't ignore it. Consult a spine surgeon in Lucknow, like those at Axis Spine Centre, for expert care and guidance. With these steps, you can protect your spine and enjoy a pain-free, active life.
