If Eddie says we should make an option to make a mid-engine and this is going to be a ton of room in the back and yeah you can put anything in there I mean this big it's gigantic and really you don't need it but he said you can put a spare tank as an option and yeah I mean you can go for a long time or hybrid and that's also true but the storage is it's pretty big it's probably as big as a midsize Chevy four-door or they call them mid size it's gigantic I mean you can put two of his new ebikes in there that's his goal and when you look at the people in there I'm I'm pretty big and my son is teeny I was like six foot two almost and I was about 2:15 and he's shorter and it's easier for him to get it out and that door makes it very easy there'd be so many people of ours buying this right now cuz you can't get it out of any of these stupid things and he says with the oil shocks we can put our wise ass s*** in where you can raise it up from the outside and or raise it up when you park and have settings or it can make it manual I sort of like that this is an intense idea if you're going through a parking lot with speed bumps and they're everywhere at hotels and parking lots if you put it up and you leave it up you get your stuff done and you put it down I'm going to go ahead and draw this up the oil shocks are a must he says there's an option and if it takes off other people are driving it not us that's a good idea

A launchpad for entrepreneurship in aerospace

At age 22, aerospace engineer Eric Shaw worked on some of the world’s most powerful airplanes, yet learning to fly even the smallest one was out of reach. Just out of college, he could not afford civilian flight school and spent the next two years saving $12,000 to earn his private pilot’s license. Shaw knew there had to be a better, less expensive way to train pilots.  

Now a graduate student at the MIT Sloan School of Management’s Leaders for Global Operations (LGO) program, Shaw joined the MIT Department of Aeronautics and Astronautics’ (AeroAstro) Certificate in Aerospace Innovation program to turn a years-long rumination into a viable solution. Along with fellow graduate students Gretel Gonzalez and Shaan Jagani, Shaw proposed training aspiring pilots on electric and hybrid planes. This approach reduces flight school expenses by up to 34 percent while shrinking the industry’s carbon footprint.

The trio shared their plan to create the Aeroelectric Flight Academy at the certificate program’s signature Pitchfest event last spring. Equipped with a pitch deck and a business plan, the team impressed the judges, who awarded them the competition’s top prize of $10,000.

What began as a curiosity to test an idea has reshaped Shaw’s view of his industry.

“Aerospace and entrepreneurship initially seemed antithetical to me,” Shaw says. “It’s a hard sector to break into because the capital expenses are huge and a few big dogs have a lot of influence. Earning this certificate and talking face-to-face with folks who have overcome this seemingly impossible gap has filled me with confidence.”

Disruption by design

AeroAstro introduced the Certificate in Aerospace Innovation in 2021 after engaging in a strategic planning process to take full advantage of the research and ideas coming out of the department. The initiative is spearheaded by AeroAstro professors Olivier L. de Weck SM ʼ99, PhD ʼ01 and Zoltán S. Spakovszky SM ʼ99, PhD ʼ00, in partnership with the Martin Trust Center for MIT Entrepreneurship. Its creation recognizes the aerospace industry is at an inflection point. Major advancements in drone, satellite, and other technologies, coupled with an infusion of nongovernmental funding, have made it easier than ever to bring aerospace innovations to the marketplace.

“The landscape has radically shifted,” says Spakovszky, the Institute’s T. Wilson (1953) Professor in Aeronautics. “MIT students are responding to this change because startups are often the quickest path to impact.”

The certificate program has three requirements: coursework in both aerospace engineering and entrepreneurship, a speaker series primarily featuring MIT alumni and faculty, and hands-on entrepreneurship experience. In the latter, participants can enroll in the Trust Center’s StartMIT program and then compete in Pitchfest, which is modeled after the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition. They can also join a summer incubator, such as the Trust Center’s MIT delta v or the Venture Exploration Program, run by the MIT Office of Innovation and the National Science Foundation’s Innovation Corps.

“At the end of the program, students will be able to look at a technical proposal and fairly quickly run some numbers and figure out if this innovation has market viability or if it’s completely utopian,” says de Weck, the Apollo Program Professor of Astronautics and associate department head of AeroAstro.

Since its inception, 46 people from the MIT community have participated and 13 have fulfilled the requirements of the two-year program to earn the certificate. The program’s fourth cohort is underway this fall with its largest enrollment yet, with 21 postdocs, graduate students, and undergraduate seniors across seven courses and programs at MIT.

A unicorn industry

When Eddie Obropta SM ʼ13, SM ʼ15 attended MIT, aerospace entrepreneurship meant working for SpaceX or Blue Origin. Yet he knew more was possible. He gave himself a crash course in entrepreneurship by competing in the MIT $100K Entrepreneurship Competition four times. Each year, his ideas became more refined and battle-tested by potential customers.

In his final entry in the competition, Obropta, along with MIT doctoral student Nikhil Vadhavkar and Forrest Meyen SM ’13 PhD ’17, proposed using drones to maximize crop yields. Their business, Raptor Maps, won. Today, Obropta serves as the co-founder and chief technology officer of Raptor Maps, which builds software to automate the operations and maintenance of solar farms using drones, robots, and artificial intelligence

While Obropta received support from AeroAstro and MIT’s existing entrepreneurial ecosystem, the tech leader was excited when de Weck and Spakovszky shared their plans to launch the Certificate in Aerospace Innovation. Obropta currently serves on the program’s advisory board, has been a presenter at the speaker series, and has served as a mentor and judge for Pitchfest.

“While there are a lot of excellent entrepreneurship programs across the Institute, the aerospace industry is its own unique beast,” Obropta says. “Today’s aspiring founders are visionaries looking to build a spacefaring civilization, but they need specialized support in navigating complex multidisciplinary missions and heavy government involvement.”

Entrepreneurs are everywhere, not just at startups

While the certificate program will likely produce success stories like Raptor Maps, that is not the ultimate goal, say de Weck and Spakovszky. Thinking and acting like an entrepreneur — such as understanding market potential, dealing with failure, and building a deep professional network — are characteristics that benefit everyone, no matter their occupation. 

Paul Cheek, executive director of the Trust Center who also teaches a course in the certificate program, agrees.

“At its core, entrepreneurship is a mindset and a skill set; it’s about moving the needle forward for maximum impact,” Cheek says. “A lot of organizations, including large corporations, nonprofits, and the government, can benefit from that type of thinking.”

That form of entrepreneurship resonates with the Aeroelectric Flight Academy team. Although they are meeting with potential investors and looking to scale their business, all three plan to pursue their first passions: Jagani hopes to be an astronaut, Shaw would like to be an executive at one of the “big dog” aerospace companies, and Gonzalez wants to work for the Mexican Space Agency.

Gonzalez, who is on track to earn her certificate in 2025, says she is especially grateful for the people she met through the program.

“I didn’t know an aerospace entrepreneurship community even existed when I began the program,” Gonzalez says. “It’s here and it’s filled with very dedicated and generous people who have shared insights with me that I don’t think I would have learned anywhere else.”

Also, I saw a post about Sleeper, so I want to talk a bit about Sleeper (not necessarily about the point the post was about, just in general)

Sleeper has been portrayed as a morally dubious guy for a while now

Not necessarily since the beginning, because Tel-Kar deserved it and he wouldn’t have stopped, but killing a man is usually not seen as morally good

And as far as we know Hank still doesn’t know about the Sleeper Agent and they offered to basically steal from him if Dylan asked

(And like, remember when Dylan used his powers to control Sleeper, made them take a dog form and throw explosive chemicals on Hybrid+Maker, I think? And then they told Dylan that it wasn’t nice for him to do that? Well well if it isn’t hypocrisy)

I’m not sure this is going somewhere, because Sleeper is mostly just there in the background. I would love to see a story focused on them someday

I don’t see anything sinister - or, more sinister than their usual - in them offering to help Dylan fight Eddie and Peter

There’s also the fact of their loyalty, which intrigues me but I think it’s also unintentional. Sleeper hasn’t interacted much with their parents since coming back in Absolute Carnage. They have denied any family connection to Eddie and even said recently that Dylan was “like a brother” to them (which could make sense if it was just Sleeper denying being Eddie’s child again, but they are undeniably Symby’s, and Dylan is also Symby’s)

I’m going wild with hcs to explain this but the fact is. Maybe for some actual reason, maybe for the writers’ whims, Sleeper seems to have no feelings for Eddie, and they don’t have many moments with Symby, but they are extremely loyal to Dylan. Even in the previous run, they kept Dylan’s secret, and now they keep following his lead while seeming indifferent to Eddie’s bullshit

It makes me furious, actually, because it feels like they are not respected as a character and treated as an outsider in the family drama going on. I hope I am wrong and there is some twist that fixes this

But yeah. I think the offer was just them being a morally dubious alien offering to support the only person they care about in the world no matter what he chose, and not judging if what he chose was to get back with Symby

(I will feel very silly if I am wrong about this. I am specially worried about the possibility of them truly bonding with Dylan and what consequences it could have)

I made myself a welcome home au. Their all mythical wolves that live in the forest of Home. The forest has been untouched by humans due to its supernatural abilities.

Wallly Darling

He's one of the first members to resident in the forest of Home

He got his scars when he was a pup, after his pack was raided by a rival wolf pack

Home took him in after finding him in a bush

He's still friends with Barnaby in this au. They're almost always together and have a sibling dynamic

He can hunt for himself but has trouble tracking down prey. Barnaby helps him out in tracking food.

He's the pack's tour guide and mascot

He and the other wolves can communicate with Home, the deity of the forest they live in that protects them from dangers.

He still likes apples, they're his comfort food

Julie Joyful

she's a rainbow wolf, mythical wolves that live in the mountains, they get their names because of their bright colorful pelts. They have the ability to turn into rainbow beasts during the full moon.

unfortunately, this makes them targets for hunters and poachers

She's the second member of Home, after she fell from the mountain trying escape a poacher. Her siblings had since tried to find after the incident.

her scars are from her injuries after falling off the cliff.

she had a difficult time hunting in the forest, trying to get the hang of hunting in a completely different environment.

Eddie found her trying to catch a rabbit and he teaches her how to catch field creatures.

she's the pack's best tracker and playmate. Always coming up with new games and keeping the packs spirit's up in difficult situations.

Frank Frankly

He's the third member of Home, after he was chased out of his pack

His scares are from challenging the leader of his previous pack and hunting accidents

He was kicked out after calling out his corrupted leader and challenged him to fight. He jumped into a ravine to escape his pack mates.

He was found in a ravine by Julie and Eddie. At first not wanting anything to do with them. After failing to live on his own, he joined them on their journey to home

He and Julie didn't get along at first, Frank snapped at Julie, thinking she was there to capture or kill him.

He and Julie are best friends, often hunting and patrolling together.

He's the pack's best fighter and organizer. He organizes everyone's daily tasks and chores for the day.

He and Eddie are mates

Eddie Dear

he's the fourth member of Home, wanting to find a forever home after his days of being a loner

he lived on his own with his mother. He left on his own after her death.

he lived as a loner trying to join different packs, but they all chased him out

he was giving up hope on finding a pack mate until he met Julie, and they started traveling together

he got his scars from his time as a loner and hunting accidents

He's the pack's messenger and scout. Running between territories delivering messages to different packs. He has a crow to help him with his tasks

Barnaby B Beagle

he's a wolf/dog hybrid

He's the fifth member of Home. He lived with his bio mom until she died from a disease. He was often bullied by his previous pack for being a hybrid.

He was taken in by Ms Beagle after he ran away from his pack as a pup, aka the ghost wolf of Home

He and Ms Beagle leaved on their own, later coming across Wally, and he chose to stay while Ms Beagle went on to become a loner. Occasionally visiting the pack.

He and Wally had met before when Wally's pack was still around.

He's the pack's jokester and hunter

He sometimes carries Wally around, Wally doesn't mind.

Sally Starlet

She's a star wolf, wolves that live in the stars. They have a distinct star shaped mane, with colors ranging from firey yellow to galactic purple.

She landed in home with the goal of living a legacy her parents had

She's the packs lead huntress and storyteller. Telling tales of the stars and galaxies She's visited.

Her scars are from the landing and a hunting incident with an elk

She organizes pack hunts and leads the rest of her team to a successful hunt

She and Frank often get into arguments organizing daily tasks.

Poppy Partridge

I'm making an update on her design, but she's a winged wolf, wolves that resident in the forest and mountains. Winged wolves have distinct wings depending on their environment. And are just as colorful as their bird counterparts.

She lived outside of the forest of Home, but a disease struck her pack, and she was forced to leave

She is now a healer because of her past and doesn't want her current pack to suffer the same faint.

She's the pack's healer and hunter

She has a raven helper named Martin. He helps her gather herb and spices for the pack.

Frank, Julie, and Sally help her with hunting down prey and gathering herbs

Howdy Pillar

He's a silk wolf, wolves that have the features and traits of butterflies and moths, and more legs+ a pair of wings than their counterparts. They have the ability to spin silk from their paws.

He lived in the valley with his large family until he and his siblings were chased out. Due to the pack having too many members and not enough prey

He found Home when he ran into Barnaby and Wally while trying to catch a rabbit

He and Barnaby hit it off well, Wally offered him a place in the pack.

He's the pack's best hunter and tracker, taking down large prey and trading with other packs.

That's all I have, I'm still working on the story. I'll probably give them redesigns in the future. And work on the other character's wolf designs.

Some fun things that also weren’t in the movies that I would like to mention:

They are capable of “fusing” with each other sometimes, and there are are symbiotes created by human scientists by fusing strains of existing ones (Agony+Phage+Lasher+Riot fused at one point to form Hybrid, and Carlton Drake recently fused a bunch of them in an abomination called Madness)

Sometimes also a part cut from a symbiote can become (be turned into) a new symbiote. Mania was originally made from Venom’s severed tongue. Rascal comes from a cut piece of Bedlam

In the comics, the symbiotes are sometimes able to live without hosts for long periods, even having full forms other than just being a slime. The Venom symbiote had a dog form and a humanoid form separated from Eddie in Venom (2018), and in Venom: Space Knight they were able to have a humanoid form separated from their current host while still being bonded to him. There is also a hostless symbiote that posed as a human for decades

You probably already heard of this but V and Eddie have a symbiote/human hybrid son called Dylan (his klyntar name is Codex!). There are a few other symbiote/human hybrids in alternate universes and how they were born and how they work is different in each. Dylan is current unable to use his symbiote powers without being bonded to Venom

The Carnage symbiote has been brought back from the dead a few times by Cletus’ body just respawning them. They also have brought Cletus back to life by doing the same. At one point there were at least two copies of him running around

(One scientist once cloned the Carnage symbiote multiple times and mixed it with different animals, then left them to incubate inside Deadpool’s body. One of these survived and is currently his giant murder dog called Princess)

(The Carnage symbiote was originally not vulnerable to sound and fire, only to electricity. They are currently seemingly invulnerable to anything (?).)

Symbiotes are shown to be able to bond with basically any living thing, and also cyborgs and machines

They are able to copy the superpowers of any superpowered host they have. The Venom symbiote copied Spider-Man’s powers
