I've just finished beating Solar Ash
like right now... two minutes ago even.
BOOOY was it a great game!
Visuals, sounds, music, voice acting: BEAUTIFUL! STUNNING!
LOVED the story!!
Unlike in hyper-light drifter, I could actually understand it! -This is not a criticism of hyper-light drifter (which is peak), this is just me admitting to be stoopid-
Side-note why is it that all the games I've been playing deal with grief?
Anyways...
game play was

like the level design, OH MY! the level design! As soon as I got the hang of the game, I found all the secrets like they were right behind every corner!!! GOOD DESIGN AAAAAA
the time-slip mechanic was fun as hell and I think I might just yoink that for future games -TRULY dastardly, I know- but I do think it would be fun to have a suit that allows you to chain grapples between enemies...
also... I caught two typos... can't believe they'd do that to me personally
Conclusion: GO PLAY SOLAR ASH RIGHT THE FUCK NOW!

bbc: Some sweet #Silvacre content for your FYP ❤️
#silvacre#suranne jones#rose leslie#vigil#the bbc making a silvacre fan edit was a pleasant surprise :)#i saw the streaming numbers for vigil 2 were very good (understatement)#which makes an s3 at least a possibility#if they can write a story suranne and rose would sign on for#i'm counting on what suranne said that the continuation of the love story is a big part of what brought her back#the series does a good job creating dramatic tension and conflict within a happy relationship that doesn't involve cheating or one dying#if they do a 3rd season i hope that continues#i mean the series started with amy in the worst possible place emotionally and psychologically so surely they wouldn't go there again#s2 with its wlw mlm solidarity/parallel storyline and giving us more insight into amy and how far she's come since s1#on top of all the other things i liked this season (which i enjoyed quite a bit in addition to the ship)#at heart it's very critical of the british government and military/war machine and some reviews seem to have missed that part#anyway i'm pleased as punch that a prestige bbc drama has two women in love at its center and a lead as compelling as amy#and that it's pulling in the numbers even without the submarine and claustrophobia (admittedly a cool premise)#keep making the fanvids bbc social media team we appreciate you#queue

Just came back from a completely blind viewing of Venom 3. Not going to spoil anything (like at all, even which characters were the villains because I have no idea what things were in the trailers as I didn't see them) but as a near lifelong Venom fan this was so good! I actually felt a bit emotional at the end. I was also the only one who stayed long enough to see the final post credits scene, which felt cool.
I liked how they adapted the villains in this one, which is an improvement from the previous two. Riot was a blank slate who looked enough like Venom to be a physical mirror so that they could play out the "villain having the heroes exact powers in a superhero movie" trope, and Carnage was hindered by the lack of an R rating, and being a bit ooc in general especially in regards to Cletus not being very close to his own symbiote, when in the comics those two are closer than any other symbiote host combo which is part of why they are so dangerous. As well as the fact that he just died unceremoniously in a way he wouldn't come back from, when, as essentially a slasher movie villain with a symbiote, he should've been allowed to survive.
But enough about the previous movies, point is they made the antagonists work this time in a really clever way, taking previously unrelated concepts and syncretizing aspects to better adapt those ideas in a way that wasn't disappointing to me as a comics fan.
I will say that there is a bit less explicit symbrock content than some might've been hoping for. There's subtle signs of it but I might not be the best at detecting that, actually.
To end on a positive note, the soundtrack slaps as always with these movies.
#venom the last dance#venom movies#venom#liveblogging#does this count as a liveblog if i only covered my thoughts on it when i finished the whole thing?#also expect another spike in symbiote r34 because we got a few more instances of women with symbiotes in this one#my thoughts#movie review#not from queue

Just watched Abigail and it’s kind of a sleeper hit. At least for me. The movie manages to combine the best kinds of suspense you get in both horror and heist films and even manages to flesh out a surprisingly likeable main cast to get munched on. Seriously builds a great atmosphere of paranoia, suspicion and mistrust all through the film. If it sounds like you’re thing I’d highly recommend checking it out. Was not expecting it to have such a good time and I’ll sing this film’s praise if no one else will lol.

Hi so I decided to read @inkcurlsandknives book Saints of Storm and Sorrow and I'm seriously not okay.
The premise of this book intrigued me immensely, and when I eagerly started reading it, I kept a notebook next to me so I could write down any quotes that stood out to me or thoughts I had along the way. But this notebook was quickly forgotten as I was completely swept up in this book, and my desire to know what happens next? While reading, I had to fight from stimming, gasping, and otherwise loudly reacting in public. When I continued reading in private, tears started dripping from my eyes at some point around the climax, from a combination of emotion and the fact that I had been so desperate to keep reading that I had strained my eyes until they watered.
This book is incredible. It is gorgeously, evocatively written in a way that inspires me to add even more detail into my own writing. The world created in this book is heavily drawn from our own, and is as deep as the ocean itself. Saints is also unafraid to dive into the darkest depths of humanity, and explore the complexities of pain. Seriously, I can’t state enough how morally gray everything and everyone is, making for a wildly compelling and thought-provoking cast. If anyone wants to gush about this book more in depth, I’d be happy to.
#please read this book it almost made me cry in public#I can count the number of books that have done that on one hand#there were certain aspects of it that resonated with me in a deeply personal way#not publicly disclosing what they are because of privacy reasons#but just know that it did#anyway yeah I am like in awe of this book#other people's writing#saints of storm and sorrow#does this count as a book review?

2024 reads / storygraph
Mirrored Heavens
conclusion to a high fantasy trilogy set in a world inspired by pre-colonial america
Serapio, the newly crowned Carrion King, rules Tova, and tries to keep his power as enemies try to destroy him
Xiala is back among her people on the island of Teek - tries to learn about her newfound powers, and survive the violent occupation of her people
Naranpa is on a journey to control her Sun God powers to save Tova, while Iktan searches for her
#mirrored heavens#between earth and sky#aroaessidhe 2024 reads#ok i cant entirely remember what happened last book but this is…….I mean it continued/ended the story!#I enjoyed reading it. such a rich world. I like a lot of the characters. I maybe didn’t feel blown away?#it feels mostly focused on developing more bits of worldbuilding; backstories; character relationships (Which it does well!)#the actual politic/gods/war/plot stuff felt anticlimactic in the end and a lot was unresolved#Definitely the most interesting part to me was Xiala finally having space to herself and finding out more about Teek#and her people. I would read a whole book about her hanging out with sea creatures#Nara and iktan are cute. I like them.#jesus what a death count#can i admit i don’t super care about serapio and xiala…..like it’s enjoyable surface level but that’s it#like I did enjoy it overall i would still recommend the series! I'm just not Obsessed yknow#i do kinda agree with some of the bad reviews tho. lol. like I’m not strongly invested enough to have definitive opinions but

gelphie and wicked constantly trending on this site is INSANE because that's exactly what i dreamed of ever since it was announced that we were getting a movie, which was so long ago that i wasn't even on tumblr yet (movie was announced in 2012 and i joined in 2013). back then i thought it probably wouldn't even be all that good but i just hoped that people who were unfamiliar with the stage musical would like the movie enough to make gelphie a bit more popular, and look where we are now!! i hope next we can make gelphie hit the top 10 ships in 2025's year in review. it probably won't happen but it's what they deserve.
#wicked#musicals#idk how exactly the year in review works like is it counting posts from this month? since the 2024 one came out on december 4th?#or does it not start until january 1st? because wicked part 2 coming out late in november gives it a disadvantage :(#being f/f also gives them a disadvantage 😔 but maybe gelphie could do it... together... there's no fight they cannot win...#star.txt

The words that come out don't say what's on my mind
"What I'm feeling, I just can't express
... I try not to spend all night Overthinking what was said As the words spin in my head Yeah, I try with all my might To get my sentences just right So I say just what I meant But it gets all fucked up instead It's like words are broken again
... Sounded better in my head."

"It's hard to look up when you're always looking in. Makes you feel small, and then it's just easier to look down, isn't it?" - from Matteo by Michael Leali
"He tasted these strange victories that left him empty and wishing for nothing more than endless sleep, like the last man on a battlefield where even the blades of grass were dead." &
"Every breath was a labour now, because he was afraid of the silence. He was too afraid even to feel contempt for himself." &
"...she said, without looking up, I hate the world you live in. He had wanted to say, it's your world, also, but...I live in the parts you don't want to see. I live there for you." - from Love and Longing in Bombay by Vikram Chandra

Nosferatu 2024 Review From A Real Vampire
I feel like I did not get what I was promised with this movie. The tagline is "Succumb to the darkness" and YET the vampire dies at the end? Frankly, if the movie were actually committed to succumbing to the darkness, Count Orvock would have WON and killed everyone in the town. I'm not sure how the plague is even relevent considering the vampire there. Surely he could just drink all their mortal blood by himself? Did the rats even serve a purpose except to be ~scary~? Rats aren't even scary.
And speaking of scary, I am horrified by how gross the vampire was. Literally the point of vampires is to be hot and sexy and drink pathetic mortal blood, so why was this UGGO what we got? I'm so fucking offended. This is an insult to vampires. We are not uggos.
That being said, there wasn't enough of him. There was way too much focus on the human characters and their petty little problems. Mortal problems could never live up to the complexity of a vampire's twisted mind. What a waste.
2/10 - the aesthetics were cool and everything but Count Orgock was ugly and the movie spent way too much time focusing on things that weren't him.
#nosferatu#nosferatu 2024#count ordock#and whatever the humans were called#vampires#vampire aesthetic#vampire lifestyle#vampire review#real vampire#thankfully this is just a movie and does not reflect the lived experiences of real vampires

terfs when a study shows literally anything positive about trans people/transitioning: 'hm i think this requires some fact-checking. Were those researchers REALLY unbiased? Because if they were biased this doesn't count and if they weren't knowingly biased they probably were unconsciously biased, woke media affects so much these days. Have there been any other studies on this? Because if there haven't been this could be an outlier and if there have been and they all agree that's a bit odd, why aren't there any outliers, and if there have been and any disagree we really won't know the truth until we very thoroughly analyze them all, will we? Were there enough subjects for a good sample size? Did every single subject involved stay involved through the whole study because if they didn't we should be sure nothing shady was going on resulting in people dropping out. Are we 110% sure all the subjects were fully honest and at no point were embarrassed or afraid to admit they didn't love transitioning to the people in charge of their transition? Are we 110% sure none of the subjects were manipulated into thinking they were happy with their transition? In fact we should double-check what they think with their parents, because if the subjects and their parents disagree it's probably because they've been manipulated but their cis parents have not and are very unbiased. How many autistic subjects were there because if there weren't enough then this doesn't really study the overlap between autistic and trans and if there were too many then we just don't know enough about what causes that overlap to be sure this study really explains being trans and isn't just about being autistic. How many AFAB subjects were there because if there weren't enough this is just another example of prioritizing AMAB people and ignoring the different struggles of girls and women and if there were too many how do we know sexism didn't affect the results. Was the study double-blinded? We all know double-blinded is the most reliable so if this one wasn't that's a point against it even if the thesis literally physically could not be double-blinded. Look i'm not being transphobic, i want what's best for trans people! Really! But as a person who is not trans and therefore objective in a way they cannot possibly be, i just think we should only take into account Good Science here. You want to be following science and not being manipulated or experimented upon by something unscientific, right?'
terfs when they see a study of 45 subjects so old it predates modern criteria for gender dysphoria and basically uses 'idk her parents think she's too butch', run by a guy who practiced conversion therapy, 'confirmed' by a guy who treated the significant portion of subjects who didn't follow up as all desisting, definitely in the category of 'physically cannot double-blind this', completely contradicted by multiple other studies done on actual transgender subjects, but can be kinda cited as evidence against transitioning if you ignore everything else about it: 'oOOH SEE THIS IS WHAT WE'RE TALKIN BOUT. SCIENCE. Just good ol' unbiased thorough analysis. I see absolutely no reason to dig any deeper on this and if you think it's wrong you're the one being unscientific. It's really a shame you've been so thoroughly brainwashed by the trans agenda and can't even accept science when you see it. Maybe now that someone has finally uncovered this long-lost study from 1985, we can make some actual progress on the whole trans problem.'
#science#transphobia#cass review#less 'cass review' generally more 'zucker specifically' because this same problem exists outside cass#have lost count of the number of times i've seen 'well THAT study may have said most trans kids persist but it MUST be wrong'#'there's another study says the exact opposite. that one's right. obviously.'#but cass is why i'm annoyed by it now#normally i don't have a problem with critical observations and questions. yeah check your science! that's good!#there have been some bullshit studies and some bullshit interpretations of good studies! scientific literacy is important!#and normally also am willing to pretend the people pulling reaction 1 on some studies and reaction 2 on others are. not the same group.#but now there's a ton of cass supporters tryna say 'oh the cass review didn't reject or downplay anything for being pro-trans!'#'some studies just weren't given much weight for being poor evidence! not our fault those were all studies with results trans people like!'#…….………….aight explain why zucker's findings are used for the 'percentage of trans kids who don't stay trans' stat instead of anyone else's.#would've been more scientifically accurate to say 'yeah we just don't know.'#'studies have been done but none of them fit our crack criteria sooooo *shrug*'#like COME ON at least PRETEND you're genuinely checking scientific correctness and not looking for excuses to weed out undesirable results#am also mad about zucker in particular because his is possibly the most famous bullshit study#quite bluntly if you're doing trans research and think 'yeah this one seems reasonable' you. are maybe not well-informed enough for the job#there's just no way you genuinely look at the research with an eye toward accurate science regardless of personal bias#and walk away thinking 'hm that zucker fellow seems reasonable. competent scientists will respect that citation.'#that's one or two steps above doing a review of vaccine science and seriously citing wakefield's mmr-causes-autism study#it doesn't matter what the rest of your review says people are gonna have OPINIONS on that bit#and outside anti-vaxxers most of those opinions will be 'are you actually the most qualified for this because ummmm.'#people who agree with everything else will still think someone more competent could've done a much better job#people who disagree with everything else will point to that as proof you don't know shit and why should we listen to you#anyway i'd love a hugeass trans science review with actual fucking standards hmu if you know of one cause this ain't it#……does tumblr still put a limit on how many tags you can include guess me and my tag essay are about to find out.

Finally stopped procrastinating and made a letterboxd account and am now going through the painstaking process of trying to remember every movie I’ve ever seen before to mark it as watched

#also does anyone who knows letterboxd knows if marking it as watched#via clicking the eyeball on the poster when viewing a list#(which is how i’ve been doing it)#does the site count that as having watched now#like will I look at my 2025 review in december and it’ll say I watched like 300 movies this year lol#j.txt
