Just rewatched midnight. I forgot how good this episode is.

The doctor is known for beliving in humanity and hoping people will always make the right choice in the end. And that belief is crushed here. THAT'S the scary part. The thing itself is fucking creepy, of course it is, but what makes this episode so frightening is the panic. The worst comes out of people when they are scared and the setting of this episode has it all to scare someone: small, almost claustrophobic space, middle of nowhere (and the said nowhere is deadly), weird fucking thing that turns up by smashing into the shuttle and killing someone. So what does the doctor do? He acts hopeful. He is kinda fascinated by what happened. He wants to help. But the people in the shuttle decide that they should kill the thing, so he does what? He believes they won't really do it, will they? AND you can see the surprise, hurt and horror in his eyes when he can't talk them out of it. AND you start to feel unsafe BECAUSE of it. The doctor loses control and the viewer feels it. Doctor knows those people are capable of killing him - he's totally at their mercy and they've just dissappointed him.

This epiosode explores human flaws and the psychology of fear and that's what makes it scary. people. people are the scariest part of midnight

"midoriya… he changed the future…" actually I'm pretty sure that was little miss groundhog day who did that. -- altho, I guess it'd be a little much to assume that her ability actually fucks with the time continuum or whatnot, given that it seems that it just reverts bodies to earlier versions of themselves. it is pretty wonky that the first thing it does is healing and the second thing it does is erase quirks tho, rather than de-aging, and we haven't actually seen if it has any middle grounds (like other kinds of de-evolution) between that and complete annihilation.
