best female villain tournament!
SEASON 2
RULES:
- Only submit the same character once
- Multiple submissions with different characters are fine!
- Matchups will be posted as soon as I have enough submissions and will include the most submitted characters
-Resubmissions are fine as long as they weren’t on the tourney last time
- Please be as detailed as possible
I had issues on my end with some technicalities and media’s. eg a lot of characters from the hatchetfield musicals by team starkid were just submitted as hatchetfield which made it harder to search for them to identify them and get pictures etc. If those and similar fandoms could be submitted with what musical etc they’re from that would be great :)
Those who sent submissions through my askbox will be getting submitted by me unless it was off anon(because you’ll be getting a notification)

Profiles in Villainy
Doctor Blight
A founding member of the Eco-Villains, Dr. Barbara Blight is a brilliant scientist who has pledged to stop at nothing in her quest to take over the planet.  Blight believes that the advancement of technology is far more important than the general health of the earth. Blight cares not that her many experiments have brought about ecological devastation.  As such, her dangerous endeavors have put her into regular conflict with Captain Planet and the Planteers.
At one point, Dr. Blight experimented on herself as part of an effort to augment her physical being.  The operation went awry resulting in the left side of her face becoming horribly scarred (along with the loss of sight in her left eye).  To obscure her wounds (and hide the failure of her technological prowess) Blight always maintains her hair in such a way that it fully covers the left side of her face.
Blight created a sophisticated artificial intelligence named Mal that resides within a portable computer that is never far from her person.  Blight and Mal are inseparable and ostensively act as husband and wife.
Actresses Meg Ryan and Mary Kay Bergman have provided the voice for the villainess.  Dr. Blight first appeared in the fifth episode of the first season of Captain Planet and the Planeteers, airing on October 13th, 1990.

Welcome to the Overworked Blorbo Battle Preliminary Round!
Many characters were submitted for this tournament so, in order to allow as many different blorbos into the bracket as I can, I’ve had to limit them to one per series. For most, i just included the most highly submitted character but there were a number of series with characters who had the same (or very similar) number of submissions. Therefore, I’ve created a preliminary round for you to vote on which character from each series gets to enter the bracket.
There will be 37 polls lasting 1 week each.
The polls will be separated into 3 waves. Each wave will be posted 24 hours after the previous.
The first wave will begin on Tuesday the 27th of June at 3PM BST
I've tried my best to only include official images for all of the characters on the polls but I'm not familiar with every series listed so, when the polls go up, if you notice I've used a fanart or cosplay image without permission or credit please let me know and I'll add credit and correct it for any future appearances of that character.
I apologise if I’ve accidentally spelled something wrong or used a wrong name for something, I’m not familiar with every series listed.
The matchups are listed under the read more

anonymous | asks for muns with a multimuse or more than one muse [ accepting ]
8 & 5
Tumblr media Tumblr media
if you HAD to choose, who’s your least favorite muse?
[ Previously answered here <3 ]
what is each of your muses otps? notps?
[ Nonnie, my love, you understand that I have 23 muses yes? For the sake of being reasonable, I'll give you one (1) ship bias for each of the canon muses (below the cut for length)- though I don't really have any notps? If I think of one, I'll mention it ]
The Artist: the homie @dcwnthercbbithcle is partly to blame for this, but I can't think of Carmina being with anyone except Sally now dhdhdjjs 💙
Bleez: Fatality! I just think that. Toxic yuri 😌 also them inadvertently helping the other overcome the mind controlling element of their rings.
The Blight: absolutely Vigo. Mans has never even existed on screen but occupies a huge chunk of Talbot’s lore. Gay ass.
Bookworm: I put him together with the scraps from his original incarnation on the '66 show with the idea of being tied to my Scarecrow in some fashion, and I will die before that changes. I also think he and Eddie would be horrible together 💙
Candyman: I am not immune to the fun art of him and Hell's Priest (Pinhead), previous experiences be damned.
Catwoman: Gotham City Sirens Throuple NOW
Claudette Morel: I just think. Haddie and Claudette 💙
The Doctor: my first answer is to say Phil- but for the sake of only having one pair of muses point at each other, I'll go with Min. Granted I don't see them as romantic/sexual, but still one of my favorites for Herman.
The Dredge: Haddie- but again, not romantic or sexual.
March Harriet: honestly, Harrie and Barbara have always been a silly little ship of mine- if mostly as a one-sided thing on Harriet's part.
Rorschach: Dan is such an obvious answer, but Rorschach can't stand anyone else so he's also the only answer.
Saint Walker: honestly one of my oldest romantic ships is Bro’Dee and J'onn, and tbh I still stand by it.
Salaak: Kilowog. He's the only one there's any likelihood Salaak would ever confess to, at least qvq
Scarecrow: EDWIN,,,,,,,,, WAH. Though I have seen some Very fun things of him and Selina.
Sinestro: again, Hal seems like too obvious an answer- but I'm being entirely serious when I say the only two other options to ever exist (Arin and Abin) are both dead twice over.
The Spirit: YUI!!! Rin thinks she's sooooo neat
Two-Face: another silly little ship of mine is the Dents and Oswald qvq
The Wraith: Herman is pretty much tied with Evan for who I like best with Phil (this is also Bunni's fault), but I'll go with Evan for fairness (even if it's exclusively Bunni's Evan. I Do Not Like how much racism and infantalization broad fanon puts on Phil in any ships but Especially with Evan, unfortunately :/)

Weekend Edition: Non-Fiction
The great thing about non-fiction books is that we have lots of them in our libraries on almost any topic you can imagine. You can find one that interests you in the Main, Conservatory, Art or Science library. Here are a few recently published ones you might want to consider for your bingo box prompt, Non- Fiction.
Tumblr media
God Rock, Inc. : the business of niche music / Andrew Mall “Popular music in the twenty-first century is increasingly divided into niche markets. How do fans, musicians, and music industry executives define their markets' boundaries? What happens when musicians cross those boundaries? What can Christian music teach us about commercial popular music? In God Rock, Inc., Andrew Mall considers the aesthetic, commercial, ethical, and social boundaries of Christian popular music, from the late 1960s, when it emerged, through the 2010s. Drawing on ethnographic research, historical archives, interviews with music industry executives, and critical analyses of recordings, concerts, and music festival performances, Mall explores the tensions that have shaped this evolving market and frames broader questions about commerce, ethics, resistance, and crossover in music that defines itself as outside the mainstream”
Frederick Douglass : prophet of freedom / David W. Blight. “The definitive, dramatic biography of the most important African-American of the nineteenth century: Frederick Douglass, the escaped slave who became the greatest orator of his day and one of the leading abolitionists and writers of the era. As a young man Frederick Douglass (1818-1895) escaped from slavery in Baltimore, Maryland. He was fortunate to have been taught to read by his slave owner mistress, and he would go on to become one of the major literary figures of his time. He wrote three versions of his autobiography over the course of his lifetime and published his own newspaper.” (publisher).
Video/art: the first fifty years / Barbara London “The curator who founded MoMA's video program recounts the artists and events that defined the medium's first 50 years. Since the introduction of portable consumer electronics nearly a half century ago, artists throughout the world have adapted their latest technologies to art-making. In this book, curator Barbara London traces the history of video art as it transformed into the broader field of media art - from analog to digital, small TV monitors to wall-scale projections, and clunky hardware to user-friendly software. In doing so, she reveals how video evolved from fringe status to be seen as one of the foremost art forms of today.”
Grassroots rising : a call to action on climate, farming, food, and a green new deal / Ronnie Cummins “A book that should be in the hands of every activist working on food and farming, climate change, and the Green New Deal."--Vandana Shiva A practical, shovel-ready plan for anyone wondering what they can do to help address the global climate crisis Grassroots Rising is a passionate call to action for the global body politic, providing practical solutions for how to survive--and thrive--in catastrophic times.”
Hot pants and spandex suits : gender representation in American superhero comic books / Esther De Dauw  "Hot Pants and Spandex Suits looks at representations of gender and its intersection with sexuality and race through the figure of the superhero. It places superheroes in their socio-historical context, particularly those published by the 'Big Two' publishers in the industry: Marvel and DC. The superheroes are: Superman, Captain America, Iron Man, Wonder Woman, Supergirl, Wiccan, Hulkling, Batwoman, Luke Cage, Falcon, Storm and Ms Marvel. Focusing on superheroes' first appearance in World War II up to their current iterations, author Esther De Dauw looks at how superheroes have changed and adapted to either match or challenge prevailing ideas about gender, including views on masculinity and femininity in the US military, attitudes towards American national identity, how gender intersects with sexuality for gay superheroes and how the lack of representation of minority communities impacts the superhero of color. What do superheroes say about and to us? Considering how gender, race and sexuality are often inextricably enmeshed in representation politics, this book offers an analysis that examines how all these different identities intersect and how that intersection itself produces ideas about gender. What is it that superheroes teach us about what it means to be a man or a woman when we're white or gay or Black? Following this analysis, it offers strategies and solutions to the question of representation within both the comic book industry and comic book scholarship. This book will be of interest to anyone interested in superheroes, including comic book scholars, gender studies' scholars, Critical Race scholars and scholars in the field of American Studies"-- Provided by publisher
Stamped : racism, antiracism, and you / written by Jason Reynolds ; adapted from Stamped from the beginning by and with an introduction from Ibram X. Kendi "The construct of race has always been used to gain and keep power, to create dynamics that separate and silence. Racist ideas are woven into the fabric of this country, and the first step to building an antiracist America is acknowledging America's racist past and present. This book takes you on that journey, showing how racist ideas started and were spread, and how they can be discredited"--Dust jacket flap "A history of racist and antiracist ideas in America, from their roots in Europe until today, adapted from the National Book Award winner Stamped from the Beginning"-- Provided by publisher
The undocumented Americans / Karla Cornejo Villavicencio. "Traveling across the country, journalist Karla Cornejo Villavicencio risked arrest at every turn to report the extraordinary stories of her fellow undocumented Americans. Her subjects have every reason to be wary around reporters, but Cornejo Villavicencio has unmatched access to their stories. Her work culminates in a stunning, essential read for our times. Born in Ecuador and brought to the United States when she was five years old, Cornejo Villavicencio has lived the American Dream. Raised on her father's deliveryman income, she later became one of the first undocumented students admitted into Harvard. She is now a doctoral candidate at Yale University and has written for The New York Times. She weaves her own story among those of the eleven million undocumented who have been thrust into the national conversation today as never before. Looking well beyond the flashpoints of the border or the activism of the DREAMERS, Cornejo Villavicencio explores the lives of the undocumented as rarely seen in our daily headlines. In New York, we meet the undocumented workers who were recruited in the federally funded Ground Zero cleanup after 9/11. In Miami we enter the hidden botanicas, which offer witchcraft and homeopathy to those whose status blocks them from any other healthcare options. In Flint, Michigan, we witness how many live in fear as the government issues raids at grocery stores and demands identification before offering life-saving clean water. In her book, Undocumented America, Cornejo Villavicencio powerfully reveals the hidden corners of our nation of immigrants. She brings to light remarkable stories of hope and resilience, and through them we come to understand what it truly means to be American"-- Provided by publisher

Finding the Lost pt 3
Part 2 Part 4
Warnings: mentions of possible drug use
Description: Detective Tatiana interviews Barb
Dr. Houston hadn’t had much in the way of information on how Curt could’ve disappeared, but Tatiana had expected that. What she hadn’t expected was Dr. Houston telling her point blank that Curt’s powers were a curse. She had been very blunt about it too.
They’re not powers Detective they’re a blight on my nephew’s existence. They’re a curse.
She had never heard someone describe an Empaths abilities like that. Abilities that could give them an edge in almost every field. Even lower power Empaths were sought after as therapists, doctors, and teachers. Higher power Empaths with the abilities to see memories were invaluable in investigations with a multitude of suspects. Dream walkers were said to make great therapists as well, the combined ability to feel another’s emotions and see what haunts people in their dreams helping them gain a better understanding of a patient. Even rarer were the Empaths Ferrokinesis or people with the ability to control metal. Empaths with Ferrokinesis were few and far between, sought after in construction and tech fields.
She was sitting in her office waiting for Mega’s only friend. The blonde woman from the photograph on his desk if Tatiana wasn’t mistaken. Barbara Lavernor.
Speak of the devil she muses as the woman walked threw her office door.
Ms. Lavernor is wearing a light blue dress and a pair of light brown ankle boots. She looks like she’s cried recently and tried to cover it with makeup. Tatiana can only see it because of years of training her eyes to pick up on the most minute of details.
Ms. Lavernor takes a seat in front of Tatiana’s desk “Hello Detective.”
“Hello Ms. Lavernor.” Tatiana nods “I was hoping you could tell me about your friend, Curt Mega.”
“About him?” Ms. Lavernor asks.
“Yes about his personality, his job, any hobbies, and his Empathic abilities if that’s alright.” Tatiana replies as she opened a word doc on her computer.
“He’s sweet.” Ms. Lavernor starts “He really cares about people. He can be a bit cocky and a bit dumb but that’s human nature. He’s stubborn too.”
Tatiana can’t help but notice that Ms. Lavernor was using the current tense, but for all they know Mega is dead. She didn’t want to bring that up though. Something about Lavernor was fragile.
“He works as a painter.” She continues “Most expressive art I’ve ever seen. He’s getting really popular too.”
Tatiana nods along as she takes notes “Does he have contact with anyone who seems off to you?”
“I mean his aunt is intimidating but not like that, I don’t know of anyone else Curt doesn’t really have many friends.” Lavernor answers fidgeting with one of her bracelets.
“Did he abuse any substances?” Tatiana questions carefully.
“He drinks if that’s what you mean.” She responds “Nothing crazy. Just some scotch maybe twice a week.”
“Absolutely no drugs?” Tatiana presses.
“None.” Lavernor responds “But I don’t see him face to face a lot you’d half to ask Owen.”
“Ok just checking.” Tatiana nods “What about his abilities?”
Lavernor gets quiet “They’re horrible.”
“How so?” Tatiana asks as she looks Lavernor in the eyes.
“Honestly if you want an in depth explanation just ask Owen when you meet him.” She responds “No one knows Curt better then Owen.”
Tatiana sighs softly before inquiring “Have you ever heard anything about Curt’s clients?”
“From what he told me they were decent people.” She answers.
No leads here then. She was hoping for a little more luck with this “Thank you for seeing me Ms. Lavernor.”
“I’m glad to help.” She smiles “Have a good day.”
“Have a good day.” Tatiana nods. Only Carvour left. She could only hope he had something for her.

To save you from football, how about "Well, my heart is gold and my hands are cold" with Morganbarb? (On-the-nose Halsey lyric is on-the-nose)
“Well, my heart is gold, and my hands are cold.”
Barbara’s singing voice wakes Morgana.  The former sorceress blinks her eyes open.  She gazes up at the dust particles floating in the sunlight above her.  The way they drift around is lazy, peaceful.  Peculiar, in comparison to everything she’s ever known.
Morgana closes her eyes again.  She continues listening to Barbara.  It’s not often that the doctor sings, or is home this early in the morning.  It’s not often that she sounds so relaxed or calm.
Morgana has come to know Barbara quite well over the past couple months.  The way the doctor’s brow creases when she’s frustrated.  The way she sighs, and then grumbles out of the corner of her mouth, when she’s cross.  The way Barbara’s irritation, usually at something Morgana’s done (wrong, yet again, because she never seems to able to do anything right), always expresses itself above all else.
In a way, listening in like this, when Barbara doesn’t even know she’s awake to do so, is like stealing, Morgana muses.  Barbara never lets her softness, her warmth, show when she’s around Morgana.  She’s always on guard.  With good reason, too.  If Morgana were in Barbara’s position, she wouldn’t trust her either.
But still.  It doesn’t quite sting.  That would require Morgana to have the ability to be hurt, which she does not.  She may not have magic like she used to, but that doesn’t mean she’s any less invulnerable.
It just feels…it feels…just not good?  Morgana doesn’t know how to describe the feeling.  Other than an emptiness, a hunger.  She sees how Barbara looks at everyone else, interacts with everyone else.  The love and the happiness ever-present in the doctor’s gaze.
Is it truly so much to want Barbara to look at her like that?  To look at her like she cares.  Not just tolerates because she has to.  But, truly cares.
More than anything, Morgana wants that.  She wants to feel warmth.  Her hands are indeed cold.  What remains of her soul is isolated, lonely.  She knows she doesn’t deserve any better, but she’s always been selfish.  Always wanted what she knows she couldn’t (or shouldn’t) have.
But then, if she does have Barbara, how long would it be before the doctor’s corruption?  Morgana knows what her touch does.  She is like a blight on the new, fresh flowers of spring.  Darkening their petals and rotting their leaves and roots.  Like Hades whisking Persephone away, down into the Underworld, never to see the sunlight again.
For all she desires the love of another, Morgana is more than aware what her own does to whatever (or whomever) she directs her affections towards.  Once, the imminent destruction wouldn’t have bothered her.  Here, it does.  For Morgana doesn’t just want Barbara, she wants Barbara how she is now; happy and smiling.  Untouched by the chilling, killing frost that comes when Morgana’s attention settles on a new subject.
Thus, Morgana knows she can never truly have Barbara, be with her, in the way she desires.  She is who she is.  There is absolutely no changing that, in her mind.
However, that doesn’t mean Morgana can’t listen from afar.  Can’t love a softly singing voice that she’d never, on her own, be able to figure out is indeed for her ears (and her ears only) to hear.

Breakthrough Study Reveals Cure for Snoring
The following blog post Breakthrough Study Reveals Cure for Snoring is republished from http://www.perspectief.org
There’s a cure and it’s being kept quiet…
Every night, in homes across the country, bedrooms reverberate with the trumpeting, whistling, whining and grunting of the nation’s snorers.
It’s a deafening cacophony that blights an estimated 60 percent of the population — and their long-suffering partners — and fuels a lucrative and ever-growing trade in snore-busting gadgets and remedies.
But as anyone who’s tried the throat sprays, nasal dilators, jaw slings, magic pillows or mouth splints that claim to ease snoring will know, snoring is infuriatingly difficult to fix.
It is just one more insulting consequence of the aging process, and therefore extremely common. But despite that, few people appreciate quite how debilitating it can be to your health and your relationships.
The snorer might sound as if they are blissfully sleeping, but their body will be struggling to get air in and out through slack and floppy airways and this extra effort will ultimately compromise the quality of the deeply restorative phases of sleep.
This is the time when the vitally important mental and physical repair process is supposed to happen, and the heart should be able to slow and rest.
Although snoring is more likely to occur if you are overweight, it can also trap you in a vicious cycle whereby the snoring itself triggers weight gain. Studies show poor sleep typically stimulates the appetite for sweet and fatty foods as your body fights to cope with fatigue.
As long-term snoring causes protracted sleep deprivation, which in turn means your snoring worsens, the weight piles on. This then increases your risk of obesity-related disorders such as diabetes, heart disease, even some cancers.
Snoring is a potent trigger for bitterness, ridicule, and resentment in relationships and studies show that for around 6 percent of couples, bad snoring can be enough to trigger marriage breakdown.
Inveterate snorers, and therefore their bed partners, rarely get close to achieving even the lower recommended target of six hours of restful sleep each night. Studies show the partner of a snorer loses 90 minutes of sleep most nights and so gradually builds a sleep debt that can never be replenished.
Studies show men and women who are deprived of sleep report lower libidos and less interest in sex due to depleted energy, sleepiness and increased tension. Men are often alarmed to learn that snoring can have a direct effect on their ability to maintain an erection, too.
Over time, the elevated blood pressure caused by regular snoring will damage the blood vessels, making them thicker and restricting blood flow — a problem which very often affects the tiny capillaries of the sex organs first.
If your snoring is a source of stress between you, this can make ‘performance anxiety’ worse, and concern about ‘underperformance’ can be the kiss of death for a sexual relationship.
And here come the vultures..
When so many people are looking for a “magic pill” rest assured companies will try to capitalize. Anti-snoring devices range from nasal strips, mouthpieces, neck braces, positional devices, chin straps, nasal dilators, throat sprays and more.
The problem is that none of these so-called solutions tackle the root of what’s causing the snoring. Worst of all, the companies producing these products don’t really want you to stop snoring… Why? Because when you stop snoring, they stop making money.
Let’s have a look at what they Mayo Clinic says about some of the so-called “snoring solutions” that the industry is selling:
Mouthpieces:
May take weeks to adjust to
May cause temporary jaw pain
Intrusive
DO NOT CURE THE ROOT CAUSE OF SNORING
Positional Devices:
Can detach at night if not attached well or worn too low on the torso
Can be a long adjustment period (2 weeks+) if user normally sleeps on their back intrusive
DO NOT CURE THE ROOT CAUSE OF SNORING
Anti snore pillows:
Are typically designed for single-position sleepers
It can be difficult to get used to the firmness
The structure causes neck pain in some
Foam flattens over time, so they need to be replaced frequently
Some are too lightweight, causing it to slip from under the head during the night
DO NOT CURE THE ROOT CAUSE OF SNORING
Chin Straps:
Doesn’t it around all head sizes
Straps can cut into the ears
Many reports that it puts an uncomfortable amount of pressure on head
Need very clear sinuses, since jaw is closed shut
Depending on the brand, some fabrics used can cause constant itchiness Intrusive
DO NOT CURE THE ROOT CAUSE OF SNORING
Nasal Dilators:
Won’t be effective for majority of snorers
They can pop out of your nose in the night
Many users report pain & discomfort in the nostrils intrusive
DO NOT CURE THE ROOT CAUSE OF SNORING
Nasal Strips:
Shown ineffective in 40-patient study
Adhesive can be hard to clean off & can irritate the skin
Can leave red blemishes behind
Some contain latex, which can affect those with allergies & produce a nasty odor
Single usage only
DO NOT CURE THE ROOT CAUSE OF SNORING
Most people who try the above solutions have quickly realized that those are not viable solutions for them. Not only are their benefits highly questionable, but they are extremely intrusive and unpleasant to use. Who wants to go to bed wearing a mouthpiece or chin strap?
With the sheer desperation, many people experience when it comes to snoring It’s not surprising that so many snorers search for “magic pill” solutions on the chemist’s shelves. But new research shows they may well be wasting their time — and money.
Here’s what the multi-billion dollar anti-snoring industry doesn’t want you to know… There’s a remedy that’s simple, unintrusive and stops snoring for good!
In the vast majority of cases the problem can be cured — or massively reduced without any external device.
Snoring is caused by vibration of soft tissue and muscles that constitute the upper airways. In non-snorers, the tissues and muscles are firm and hence do not vibrate when breathing. Whereas in snorers the soft tissues and muscles are floppy, this causes them to vibrate when breathing resulting in the snoring sound.
Studies have shown that if you exercise those slackened throat, tongue, jaw and mouth muscles, just as you would your quads or biceps in the gym, you can build back their strength and tone, and return the structures to their former youthful condition.
Stopping to snore is within your grasp — and it’s as simple as committing to a few minutes of throat exercises every day.
For some years specialists in the U.S. have been studying the effectiveness of exercises in tightening and toning the throat muscles, and research shows near-miraculous results.
Daily targeted exercises can reduce snoring volume by 60 percent and frequency by 39 percent. That’s a far, far better result than you’d get from anything you might be able to pick up at the chemist.
Many people will notice improvements even after the first night, but you’ll need to stick with it. It might take three months of daily practice to achieve top tone (and minimal snoring), but once there, dipping into the exercises every so often is usually enough to stop the throat from falling back into its former slack state.
Researchers have revealed a unique set of exercises they say can dramatically reduce snoring in patients. They involve moving your tongue, jaw and exercising your mouth.Experts say it can dramatically cut the amount, and power, of snoring.
“We tested the effectiveness of oropharyngeal exercises to reduce snoring,” said Brazilian Geraldo Lorenzi-Filho, MD, Ph.D., study author, “the exercises significantly reduced snoring in our study group.”
US doctors have backed the research
“This study demonstrates a promising, noninvasive treatment for large populations suffering from snoring, the snorers and their bed partners, that are largely omitted from research and treatment,” said Barbara Phillips, Medical Director of the Sleep Laboratory at the University of Kentucky College of Medicine. “Frankly, this will change the advice that I give to my patients who snore. And that’s a lot of people.”
As you now know and probably already knew, the various so-called solutions that are currently out there for snoring simply do not work and are extremely intrusive and unpleasant. They do not get to the root cause of snoring and attempt to cover it up with cumbersome contraptions.
In order to cure your snoring for good, you must address the root cause which is done by exercising your throat, tongue, jaw and mouth.

Let's glimpse at then everything else part of question #8, "Have you failed?" Some people's initial reaction for this is he that they've never gone down. I think this is a mistake. One senior manager I spoke to said he would never hire anyone who said they'd never damaged. He said if they truly never failed then they had never stretched themselves and were reluctant to try new goods. In addition, he said that are tested when they fail so he really wanted to exactly how someone would react under stress.
As always, Barbara thanked everyone on the inside room, she remembered how hard her race for Congress was year's ago - this lady has a soft spot for San Francisco.
Interview the search firm as in the event that you has become hiring an executive assistant. Immediately after all, are usually going to investing time with this search service. Don't forget, you simply are employing their reach to place your profile in front with the appropriate contacts a great interview and site. So, be sure that it feels appropriate and fits into your degree of knowledge.

THE LISBON TRAVIATA
January 14, 1990
Tumblr media Tumblr media
THE LISBON TRAVIATA is a play by Terrence McNally. The title is a reference to a 1958 production of the opera La Traviata at Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon, Portugal. A rare unauthorized recording quickly became a collector's item among Callas's fans. The story revolves around Stephen, a depressed literary editor and opera fanatic, who is on the verge of losing his doctor lover to a considerably younger man. In Act I, he takes temporary refuge at the apartment of fellow opera aficionado Mendy to dish about divas, listen to records, and avoid thinking about his rapidly unraveling eight-year relationship. In Act II, he returns home to confront his unfaithful partner.
An early version of the play was produced at the Theatre Off Park, New York City, in June 1985. The play opened Off-Broadway at the Manhattan Theatre Club Stage I in May 1989 and transferred to the Promenade Theatre later that year (see below), with a new ending. In 1990 the play was seen in California, where McNally returned to the original (non-violent) ending.  It was also seen in London in 2003.
Tumblr media
The Manhattan Theatre Club production of THE LISBON TRAVIATA began performances at the Promenade Theatre on October 31, 1989 and closed on January 28, 1990.  It was directed by John Tillinger, with sets by Philip Jung, costumes by Jane Greenwood, and lighting by Ken Billington.  The cast consisted of Nathan Lane (Mendy), Dan Butler (Michael), Anthony Heald (Steven), John Slattery (Paul), with Dominic Cuskern (the voice of Allan Weeks) and Eileen Heckart (the voice of Steven's Mother).  Understudies were Robert Dorfman and James E. Reynolds.  The production won 1991 Lucille Lortel Awards for Tillinger and Lane.
Tumblr media
Even though I'm not an opera queen, I adored THE LISBON TRAVIATA.  I saw the revised (non-violent) ending at the Promenade but the real meat of the play is the witty banter created by McNally, who is in his element writing about opera and gay men.  Some of the play's lines still ring in my memory.  Nathan Lane is McNally's 'muse' and Manhattan Theatre Club is his incubator.  MTC also birthed McNally's Love! Valour! Compassion! and Lips Together Teeth Apart, both of which originally starred Lane.  I also saw Urban Blight and A Perfect Ganesh there, both terrific pieces of theatre. A versatile writer, he's penned the books for some wonderful Broadway musicals: Ragtime, Kiss of the Spider Woman, The Rink, and The Full Monty.  I won't call him under-rated, but he is certainly one of our most cherished American playwrights and deserves all the recognition he gets.  McNally's fascination (obsession) with Maria Callas led him to write Master Class, which although I did not see on Broadway, was produced at Paper Mill Playhouse starring Barbara Walsh.
Tumblr media
I'd be remiss if I didn't take a moment to mention Lane's brilliant co-stars.  Heald did quite a bit of stage before finding success in Hollywood.  He joined Lane and McNally at MTC for both Lips Together and Love! Valour! but I first saw him at the Astor Place Theatre in The Foreigner. Most people now recognize John Slattery as Roger in “Mad Men.” Dan Butler is also now a screen star (and an out gay actor), who appeared in The Silence of the Lambs with Heald.  The offstage voices were provided by MTC actors at the time. Cuskern played the title role in McNally's A Perfect Ganesh and Heckart was in their Eleemosynary.
