ty so much for answering my question! (I’m starting to incorporate gouache and rn I’m using the MIYA set) if I can ask, which brand do you use? do you usually have a general color palette you like to use?

no problem! theyre "docrafts artiste". theyre pretty okay, theyre better than the gouache paints The Works does by far at least (they stink like death, like actual death, and this weird resin has oozed out of them thats nearly impossible to get off my fingers if i touch them). I got the ones i currently use at Boyes, and they havent oozed at all yet.

As for color palette, I tend to try and stick to crimson red, pthalocyanine (or cerulean) blue, lemon yellow and yellow ochre, as well as lamp black and titanium white.

This forces me to think of colors in terms of their composition of other colors as I mix them on the palette. So instead of seeing orange in my reference, squirting out orange onto my pallete, and using it as is, I have am urged to spend more time trying to match it instead.

An extra tip of advice a little unrelated to ur question but helpful to me nonetheless is to desaturate colors by mixing in their opposite color as opposed to just mixing in grey. it gives a much more "interesting" shift in saturation. I.e. desaturating purple by mixing in yellows and greens.

Happy Friday! tomorrow is The Day of the Dead and I thought it would be fun to make a few cards with my new Docraft Sugar Skull Stamps. They are so much fun!

I played with the stamps a bunch. I colored them in, embossed them, and I settled on a fun combo of colors and then used clear embossing powder to arrive to the end product.
