Black Box Documentation

One of our systems is quite complex. It is difficult to deal with it, and it seems that nobody fully understands it.

Today, I started to get into it. After some hours, I added a new website to the Wiki, stating that it is the full documentation of our monster code. I added a diagram with a big black box, and four arrows, going in and out of the black box. The title was something like “High Level Overview and Detailed Documentation”.

Then, I posted a message “I have documented the system.” in our internal chat system, with a link. I got one thumbs up, and even that colleague did not click on the link...

I’ll continue making documentation jokes. Documentation jokes seem to be far less likely to be discovered than code-jokes.
