About us
Aikido is a traditional and non-violent Japanese martial art, founded by Ô sensei Ueshiba Morihei (1883-1969). He envisioned Aikido not only as the synthesis of his martial training, but as an expression of philosophy of universal peace and reconciliation.
it is a non competitive form and is based on the principles of balance of energies and respect for the partner. It is aimed at men and women, without age limit or special preparation.
In aikido, there are both physical and mental aspects of training. The physical training in aikido is diverse, covering both general physical fitness and conditioning, as well as specific techniques. a substantial portion of any aikido curriculum consists of throws, beginners learn how to safely fall or roll.
The practitioner learn to study movements, dodging, grips, distances, working with bare hands (taijustu of aiki) techniques of immobilizations, projections and also the work of the weapons (aikijo and aikiken) within the framework of the dojo.
Kobayashi Ryu Aikido India (KRAIK) is registered with the government of India under the India Trust Act 1882.
KRAIK is affiliated to the Kokusai Aikido Kenshukai Kobayashi Hirokazu Ryu (KAKKHR) https://aikido-kobayashi.org/, which is recognised by the Dai Nippon Butoku Kai (DNBK), Japan
Our official logo carries the signature/hanko of our designated Shihan Paolo Salvadego Hanshi ( 8th dan), DNBK, and is one of the founding members of KAKKHR
Our Soke Andre Cognard Hanshi created the Autonomous Academy of Aikido Kobayashi Hirokazu (3AKH) in 1982 , which participated in the founding of KAKKHR.
Our resident instructor Ms Sanjukta Roy ( shodan) recieved her grade of shodan ( 1st dan) in France in 2018, becoming the second woman in India to have a Shodan in Aikido. She visits the hombu dojo, in France, every year for being able to meet the bigger community of KRA and practice with everyone and bring back to our students in India the possibilty to practice better and preparing them to be able to travel independently to the hombu.

Homologation Specials Subaru 22B Shirt by DNBK #subaru #subaruwrx #subarusti #subaru22b #jdm #car #japanese #unicorn
The Subaru 22B was built between March and August 1998 in very limited numbers to celebrate both Subaru’s 40th anniversary and the 3rd consecutive manufacturer’s title in the World Rally Championship.
The car is considered by some (including me) to be one of the best looking Subarus ever built, with its sleek coupe body, flared wheel arches, discrete hood scoop, and a decidedly indiscreet rear…

ETHN 2 - Notebook 1: Some FBI Reports on Kendo During WW2
Weilai Zhang
(Larger Context: The Militarism Aspect of pre-WW2 Kendo)
What I pick for the notebook 1 is a bundle of some reports by FBI around the Second World War (WW2). These reports are mostly about some Japanese American Kendo teachers who were suspected of spying. The content of these reports circulated between Japan and United States around the WW2. This bundle of reports from surveillance shows the militaristic aspect of the Pre-WW2 Kendo, which acted both as a noble martial art and an external expression of the aggressiveness of  Empire of Japan (Dai Nippon Teikoku).
The investigations in these reports here were conducted by FBI on Dai Nippon Butoku Kai (Great Japan Martial Virtue Society), which was formerly a private organization focusing on the restoration of the classical Japanese martial art and formation of a virtuous national character but was unfortunately “exploited by the military institutions for their political and ideological campaign” during WW2 (According to DNBK’s explanation (Note 1)). As a result, during this period, FBI suspected that these Japanese Americans, who used to bow to the Japanese Emperor were involved with spying activities. According to the reports, many Japanese Americans, especially those involved with martial arts, were detained and interned, such as Tamotsu Takisaki (who is the grandfather of Phyllis Campbell, a former president of U. S. Bank of Washington - Note 2) and Joseph Kozo Uneshi (whose child wrote a memoir afterwards). None of the people in these reports were actually found guilty afterwards - Note 3). In my opinion, the subject I picked has much to relate with Indigenous & (Inter)Nationalism and War & Refugees.
Kendo is a traditional Japanese martial art that first appeared in the 10th Century. According to the International Kendo Federation, the concept of Kendo is to cultivate a righteous human character through the application of principles of katana (sword). However, until the end of World War II, studying Kendo had been a duty of all Japanese soldiers on battlefield, and all of them would take a sword with them, named Guntō (Note 4). That means, during WW2, a universally applied skill among the adversary (18,000 Guntō were made per month during WW2 - Note 5) was also being taught publicly by Japanese in United States! Then it would be no surprising to find FBI surveilling those Japanese Kendo teachers even if many of them had resided in US for more than 20 years. There were also Japanese Canadians being arrested and interned in camps because their refusal to the relocation command. Maybe I will discuss it in another notebook.
To U. S. Government, these persons are linked together with Japanese Military by blood relationships, not mention many of them practiced the same kind of martial art like the Japanese Military. So they were absolutely dangerous and had great potential possibility to become (or had already been) the spies from Japan. From this view, it is rational and justified to detain, intern or relocate the Japanese Americans during WW2. But to the normal Japanese American citizens, this series of actions negatively influenced their self-esteem and life quality. And the condition of the Relocating Camps (such as Manzanar) was in poor condition (like mentioned by Medrud). Kendo practice was also forcibly banned after war, but some professionals reconstruct a new and more peaceful system in 1952, and it continued as today’s Kendo.
