Art of Bizness II

This event was advertised as "Live DJ's, Wine, Food, and Art", which to me sounded like a perfect combo.  I was down to drive to Dallas for this event, held at Bizheard off Clover Ln in Deep Ellum. 

I arrived rather early, so I got the pleasure of seeing ALL of the artwork.  All of the pieces were spectacular, media of all forms.  One piece was a black and white drawing on cardboard, another painted spray paint cans.  A photographer displayed his work.  The picture of the hand of a DJ and their Turn Table was my favorite, of course. 

For a $10 donation, you got a wristband which meant Dos Equis keg beer or wine and food.  The food had a nice display, the pasta was good.  I chit chatted with the chef, who was very nice.  He delivers food in some Dallas Areas, Lakewood, Lake Highlands and Park Cities I believe.  This is why I didn't pick up a card- bad blogger.  If someone has that info, hit me up :) 

A chill, creative vibe was definitely present this evening.  Everyone was super nice.  I talked the record business, a little radio, even had my first Southside Pirate "Mobile Booty Box" drop (shout out to Dielex Kemposed).  The host, Nathan Petersen, was super hospitable and thanked me a few times for coming out, even asked if I was alright a time or two.  Great host.  You can always feel the energy when a room full of creative people get together, and this place had it. 

As the night went on, more and more art came off the wall and proudly into someone's car, more drinks were poured, and there were a few girls out on the dance floor. 

The DJ's kept the vibe going strong all night.  DJ Tums and DJ Spiderman started off the night, spinning some tunes, scratching some beats.  Then DJ Love hopped in, so you had all three switching and scratching.  Personally, I enjoy watching their hands.  Each has a different technique with the fader and the way they handle the record, almost like it's own dance.  DJ Love took over for a segment of all vinyl.  Anyone who knows me, knows all vinyl is my favorite.  Of course, he tore it up as always.  I had heard of DJ Love before I ever saw him perform.  And for a DJ in Dallas to get to me in Fort Worth is fairly decent.  He definitely lived up to his reputation.  DJ Centrifix took over for a bit and tore it up.  At one point, Birds Eye Blues took over the mic and did a great set.  I haven't heard them in a little while, they still sound fresh and still do a great job reppin the 817.  I even got a new T shirt that I'm stoked to wear!  Then Spewcatalism took over with some bomb ass beats.  Spew is definitely a guy with many talents.  I would love to see more sets like that! Nathan Petersen did a mix of the 80's that I couldn't help but get into, including "Don't you Want Me Baby?" by Human League which is one of my top 10 favorite 80's one hit wonders. 

This show had a really great turn out!  A lot of art was sold, we floated the keg fairly early and the place was pretty packed.  Nathan even gave me a shout out at the end of the night that was much appreciated.  I love giving love and receiving love, it's a beautiful thing.  Great night in Deep Ellum.  That area is starting to grow on me.
