Pizza and Beer Find a New Home at Nolita Joe’s in Poblacion
Two concepts join forces to create the first Pizza Bar in Manila. The mouthwatering combo of pizza and beer is taking over Poblacion, as Nolita Joe’s opens its doors this May. A union between Nolita Pizza and Joe’s Brew, the new pizza-beer joint offers the best of both worlds, with the former’s beloved fully loaded and freshly made pies and the latter’s best-selling craft ales and brews.
Originally separate entities, Pat Santos of Nolita and Joey and Marco Viray of Joe’s Brew struck a partnership that resulted in the refreshed F&B concept located in the heart of Makati. Nolita Joe’s is located at 5666 Don Pedro Street, Barangay Poblacion, Makati City, and is open on Tuesdays to Sundays from 6pm to 3am.
Known for their authentic New York-style pizzas that feature a crust with a unique combination of crunch and chewiness and in flavors inspired by the city that never sleeps, Nolita’s pies have cemented their name in the casual dining scene.
Joe’s Brew, on the other hand, boasts a truly homegrown mark, starting from the Virays’ garage and eventually finding its space in Poblacion. Following the effects of the pandemic on the restaurant industry, the two found the opportunity to team up and deliver handcrafted flavors topped with a unique concept not yet found in the area.
Perfect for a late afternoon snack to wind down after work, a starting point for a night out in Poblacion, or even a nightcap post-dancing and bar hopping, guests can savor a fuss-free meal with their favorite Nolita pizza flavors. Choose from the melt-in-your-mouth Four Cheese, the sumptuous Chicken Parmesan, rustic yet robust Wild Mushroom, or crowd-favorite SPM - that’s sausage, pepperoni and mushroom - just to name a few, and get it served hot by the slice or as a whole in 12”, 16” and even 21” pies.
Each order is made complete when paired with Joe’s Brew’s signature craft beverages from lighter hops like the Fish Rider Pale Ale and Sierra Madre Wheat Ale, to full-bodied brews such as 34th Pursuit IPA and Sunsweeper IPA.
Adventurous patrons can also sample experimental IPA and Pale Ale brews. Nolita Joe’s fully stocked bar also offers drinks on the rocks, cocktails, natural wines and more. Fans of both brands should also be on the lookout for menu updates, as more beloved classics will soon be offered.
No time to dine in? Order through Nolita Joe’s hotline, website or GrabFood for freshly made whole pizzas and cold beer bottles delivered straight to your doorstep.
The classic pairing is elevated at the first Pizza Bar in Manila, thanks not only to the F&B offerings, but also to the space inspired by a typical New York dive bar, the neighborhood go-to that everyone can rely on for a fun, yet relaxed hangout. It features a fusion of Nolita’s industrial design, with subway tiles and metal fixtures, and Joe’s Brew’s steampunk aesthetic, with one-of-a-kind retrofuture decor and accents.
The pizza bar will also be home to events for all crowds, with karaoke nights, live DJs and watch parties for Formula 1, football and more. Diners can also host their own gatherings, as Nolita Joe’s is open for private events.
There’s no better way to kick off or end the night, than with a pizza in one hand, a beer in the other and your friends all around. Swing by the new Nolita Joe’s today or order in to grab a freshly made slice of the Big Apple and take a swig of the best local brews.
Selected menu items are also available for pickup and delivery within Greater Metro Manila. Order via Nolita Joe’s website, GrabFood or hotline at (0945) 328-2561. Book a private event at Nolita Joe’s by sending a message on Instagram (@nolitajoes) or via hotline at 0945 328 2561. SEVEN NEW FETE STAGES TO INCLUDE IN YOUR STAGE-HOPPING LIST
Tumblr media
by Rogin Losa
Fete de la Musique is the ultimate festival for musicians and audiences alike. This music festival in June 17 is a free for all event. With it’s genre-based stages, cheap food, and booze, this day is the ultimate adventure for local audiophiles. And what’s Fete without a little stage hopping?
Here’s a little 101 on Fete if you’re new to it. You have the great and the constants: Blues Soul Funk, Bedroom Beats, Rock, Reggae, and the infamous Indie stage. But have you heard of the newest ones this year that are bringing the awesome and the weird? We got all the details straight from the productions’ organizing them. Get your fingers ready to click ‘going’ for we rounded it all up for you!
Tumblr media
7.  Basement Stage (Finders Keepers)
The modern speakeeasy, Finders Keepers, is fusing the old school with new beats. Looking for this place is already an adventure within itself. If you want the old school jive of hip hop— this is the basement to be at. Match that with the bar’s laidback atmosphere, it’s cool mysterious vibe, and the best handcrafted drinks. This stage is bringing Netflix’s The Getdown to life. We have Carmela Ramirez, Marketing Executive of Finders Keepers to give us the lowdown.
EXPECT THIS: The Basement Stage is will feature DJ sets by Abdel Aziz and Roy de Borja, plus live performances by hip-hop duo Dante & Amigo and electronic artist Earl of Manila.
STAY IF YOU WANT: A mix of artists you can dance, groove and getdown to - whether spinning your familiar favourite tracks or perfoming their orignals.
THE STAGE IS PERFECT FOR:   It's perfect for lovers of electronic beats, hiphop, and r&b. Loosely inspired by Netflix series The Getdown - Finders Keepers wants to have an old school vibe with songs, not only of the past but also the present and future. Anyone who loves music and wants to getdown with us should come to our stage at Fete dela Musique!

6. UNKNWN Stage (UNKNWN)
UNKNWN started last 2016 and collaborates for the growth in quality for music driven event experiences locally. There’s a lot to expect from this young organization. They’re known for producing parties at unexpected locations and curate the overall experience; from set design, visuals and most importantly, music. What to expect in music is a bit unknwn to us. But to unveil some of that mystery, their production manager, Celine Ferros decided to help us out.
EXPECT THIS: First off, our venue—The Social on Ebro is brand new and will only launch the week of Fete de la Musique. This will be interesting for people keen on food parks and craft beer. It's a cool place to hangout in the heart of Poblacion, Makati. Second, you may expect all UNKNWN residents to be playing groovy records all night. Third, we are decorating the place with that special UNKNWN touch. Fourth, we will be giving away our infamous abanicos. And lastly, a fun and inclusive vibe from the UNKNWN community.
STAY IF YOU WANT: The music to keep you groovin'.
THE STAGE IS PERFECT FOR: It’s perfect for people who want to have fun dancing, at the same time chillin' with friends. Also perfect for people who want to discover underground music.

5. Mount Zion Stage (Puro Vida)
Kick it at the beach while being in the concrete jungle of Makati. Puro Vida Manila is one of the stages that’s bringing you the best of reggae. There’s so much to see and hear at their first year in Fete. To give you an insight on what they have in store, we had one of Puro Vida’s owners Renato Robles to transport you to the tropical grooves of paradise.
EXPECT THIS: You can expect a different vibe from what you're used to see in the festival. This will be our first year to participate and we aim for Pura Vida to trasnport you to a beach far away from the city filled with great people, unique artists and the best vibes.
STAY IF YOU WANT: The homey and warm feeling of a beach party filled with the best local and international reggae acts in a friendly and chill environment! There’s Coffee Break Island, Supermikki, Lady I, DJ Lion from Jamaica and many more in Mount Zion.
THE STAGE IS PERFECT FOR: Everyone who wants to have a little break from the city to unwind, meet new people and dance while listening to the greatest reggae hits.

4. Disco Mathilde Stage (Bar Mathilde)
What else is there to describe the funkiness that could fuel the soul train to run again? Disco Mathilde’s event description says it all…
• 2 mounded tablespoons of je ne sais quoi
• Half a liter of early funk
• Quarter ounce of vintage soul
• A heaping scoop of uptempo vibes
• Attractive drink specials, to taste
If that’s not enough to get your disco balls spinning, let Bar Mathilde co-owner, Roy Murakami help you ease up.
EXPECT THIS: The stage is going to be a low-key affair, like a lot of the vibe of our place: a live band sandwiched between 2 DJs. It'll feel more like a house party with early funk, vintage soul, and a lot of cool upbeat rarities, with a live band of the same ilk between two DJ sets. We'll probably up the vibe as the night gets later.
STAY IF YOU WANT: Our place and our stage is going to feel like a low-key house party with a killer set going on. No drama. No douchebags. Just killer music, solid drinks, and good people. Proper.
THE STAGE IS PERFECT FOR: All the awesome people out there that know a good thing when they hear and see and taste it – those that can chill out with similar dressed-down top-shelf people that don't feel the need for any kind of pretension. If our lineup and our venue sound like your slice of bread, we're happy to have y'all swing on by.

3. CIRCUS STAGE (20:20 and XX XX)
This is probably one of the coolest or weirdest stage ever in local Fete history. Like UNKNWN, there’s not much detail to what they have in store for their first year. They do have the equation of circus, dance, music and art performances. Why don’t we check the funhouse out with the people from 20:20 and XX XX?
EXPECT THIS: Electrifying dance floor music ranging from house, techno and nu-disco at XX XX. Party rocking DJ sets ranging from pop, rnb, hip hop, 80s, new wave, funk at 20:20.
STAY IF YOU WANT: Awesome party vibes. We'll have live circus performances. It’s a monthly concept we do where we showcase live performances over 3 stages.
THE STAGE IS PERFECT FOR: For people who want to taste quality drinks, paired with quality music DJ sets.

2. New Wave Stage (Acceler8)
Let’s go do a Marty Mcfly and go back in time. Grab your boomboxes and raise them up high. If you want your life to be a John Hughes movie, this is the place to be at. Acceler8 is throwing the ultimate New Wave throwback to the 80s. We have Acceler8’s Marketing Officer, Ludwig Alejandro, to take us back to the future of this stage.
EXPECT THIS:  Throwback from the 80’s. This stage is for the people who appreciates the tune of The Smiths, Tears For Fears, The Cure, Depeche Mode and the like. This won’t be a cover stage however. This stage will showcase local bands that will highlight the style and diversity of New Wave.
STAY IF YOU WANT: Definitely good music and free/cheap booze.
THE STAGE IS PERFECT FOR: This is perfect for anyone who wants to have a good time and a smooth ride back to the 80’s.

Tumblr media
1. Rock N Roll Stage (Rough Stuff Entertainment)
This stage is probably the Rock Stage’s cooler older brother…except he’s technically the younger one.  This is the first stage of it’s kind in our local Fete De La Musique. Expect a wave of nostalgia and an overdose of sexy as they bring the golden age of Rock n Roll at The Roadhouse Manila Bay. We have Chana Mongaya, account manager of Rough Stuff, to excite us even further.
EXPECT THIS: Music buffs shall expect heavy doses of sexy, riff maddening guitar driven rock show. This stage is surely going to bring nostalgia to all of us. It offers a fusion of Southern Rock, Blues, Funk, and Progressive original music in the styles of The Beatles to Guns N' Roses, and everything in between.” she said.
STAY IF YOU’RE DOWN FOR: Our headliners Razorback and Kjwan fit the rock n' roll bill like a glove. Supported by the diversity of our talented pool of upcoming rock n' roll artists such as Gin Rum N’ Truth, Whiskey Version, Hey Moonshine, and Black Wolf Gypsies. In addition, our female-fronted bands (whom have been sonic scientists since birth) will bang your head like a metronome with their funky grooves and vocal prowess. This is the return of rock n’ roll in the new generation’s perspective.
Also, there are raffle prices! Who wants to take home a guitar signed by the main acts? (Thanks to our sponsor SQOE Guitars Philippines) We are also eyeing on inviting a rock n roll icon! Guess who?
THE STAGE IS PERFECT FOR: It’s perfect for the Rock N Roll enthusiasts, peace lovers, the unorthodox, free-spirited souls, short of being modern local hippies that have voices to speak, live their beliefs and just have a good time. It’s a stage with no discernment of gender, age, or social status. No labels but just pure music and 100% Rock N' Roll.

You Got Something? Work on it with Axe You.
Entitled. Privileged. Impatient. These are just some of the misconceptions the new generation, Gen Z as they are called, has to deal with. However, they are just that--misconceptions. Much like the millennials, this new generation is often misunderstood because of their different take on things. But Axe recognizes that this new breed has something. All they have to do is work on it.
Tumblr media
For the past few years, Axe, the world’s No. 1 male fragrance brand, has encouraged men to embrace their unique style, whether it be romantic, sophisticated or understated. In 2018, they are taking it a notch further by focusing not only on style, but on substance as well, with the introduction of its newest variant, Axe You.
Tumblr media
Bold and fiery, it is the perfect scent to ignite passions and inspire men to work on that something they’ve got.
Tumblr media
Whether it’s food, music, art, or film, Axe knows that success is achieved by working hard. This year, they have teamed up with four men who have succeeded in their own respective fields. This new breed of Axe guys, men of style and substance, are Chef Nicco Santos of Your Local rapper Curtismith, street artist Jappy Agoncillo, and film director Gino Santos. Together, they launched Axe’s newest campaign, Project You at Poblacion, Makati.
Tumblr media
It was a night of good food and great music.
Tumblr media
“Axe has always been about giving guys the best shot at success, and that’s what we are continuing to do this with Project You. We want to give guys out there the opportunities they may not be able to get elsewhere, and we want to see what they’ll do with these,” - says Jeremy Chua-Yap, Axe Brand Manager.
Below are some of the random photos that i took during the event

Project You is a series of four masterclasses, each hosted by an Axe guy, wherein he will share his knowledge in his field and invite participants to take part in a challenge. Each challenge winner will then get a rare opportunity to work with and for the Axe guys.
Get to know more about the newest Brand Ambassadors of Axe Philippines
Innovating Traditions with Chef Nicco Santos
Tumblr media
Apart from learning culinary basics from school, Chef Nicco Santos says that a lot of the things he knows today were gained from experience. In his masterclass, he will talk about the different ways of modernizing traditional dishes, and giving it a unique twist.
Tumblr media
He will then challenge his students to innovate a traditional dish, and the winner will get to be Chef Nicco’s sous chef for a month, joining his team for the much anticipated Madrid Fusion.
“Who knows, if all goes well, I may even absorb the winner and put them in charge of future restaurants,” he says.
Word Shop with Curtismith
Tumblr media
For Mito Fabie, most commonly known as Curtismith, rapping is a form of expression. “I started writing as a form of therapy. It was a way for me to express my feelings growing up. And then I just didn’t stop. Eventually, I started writing about other things I was passionate about, like my advocacies,” he explained.
Tumblr media
His masterclass will touch on creativity, getting his students to rid of things that hinder their creativity, in order to focus on writing about what truly matters to them. He will also be providing them with beats to accompany their lyrics, so they can each create a full song. The best tune will be co-produced by Curtismith, and the winner will also get to perform the song in future Curtismith gigs.
Art Wars with Jappy Agoncillo
Tumblr media
Jappy Agoncillo always thought that his love for art and drawing would just be a hobby. Learning from his comic book artist uncle, he never stopped drawing growing up. Through the years, his peers recognized his talent, and would ask him to draw on walls. Eventually, Jappy started posting his works online, which led him to get corporate offers.
Tumblr media
“I was supposed to go to law school, but because this whole art thing took off, here I am. This is what I chose to do,” he says.
His masterclass, Art Wars, will mimic the life of a “corporate artist.” He will challenge his students with a brief and a limited amount of time to complete the artwork, much like what he does on a daily basis. The winning artist will then collaborate with Jappy on his next big project.
Beyond Cinema with Gino Santos
Tumblr media
“I was always the artistic type, growing up,” recalls Gino Santos. Once a culinary student, Gino discovered at 14, that his love was actually for film. His mother enrolled him in a filmmaking workshop, where he was able to learn more about the craft. While first doing it for fun and making home videos of his vacations on Windows Movie Maker, he eventually decided to really pursue it, taking it up as his major in school. He then started creating short films with his best friend, and entered them into various film festivals.
“I kept getting rejected. But eventually, I got the hang of it. I began to understand the concepts that would get in and the concepts that wouldn’t,” he explains.
Tumblr media
His masterclass will delve into the world of film, where being a director is not the end all and be all of the industry. According to Gino, he wants his students to see the many different roles they could play on a film, and the many different types of films there are. He will then challenge his students to come up with their own synopsis for a short film, from which he will choose one to co-produce and help enter into a film festival.
These opportunities offered by the Axe ambassadors will give each masterclass winner a shot in the real world. What they do with it will be up to them. Are you up for the challenge? If you’ve got something, work on it. #YouGotSomething

Fete de la Musique 2017
So it’s Fete de la Musique once again, an annual music event happening in all parts of the world. This year in the Philippines is no different featuring many different local and international artists of different genres in many separate stages.
Tumblr media
Paranoid City at Mod stage, Alchemy Bar in Poblacion
This year has three different main stages which kicked off on June 17 in Makati. Pocket stages are also all over the city, but I concentrated on as much stages I can go to in Poblacion.
When I learned that the Art stage will be hosted at I’m Hotel, I made it a point to book a room and make my life easier. That Saturday morning, I still needed to go to work, but tried my best to leave early in time for the festival. I’m Hotel is neat and new, a bit cozy to start the weekend awesome.
Tumblr media
This is me chilling at I’m Hotel before I go stage hopping
When it’s not anymore too hot to walk around, I started to jam at the Mod stage -- it wasn’t actually intentional. I was only planning to get coffee at Commune but I heard live music and was immediately dragged to Alchemy. Luckily, it was one of my favourite bands playing -- one that I haven’t heard and seen perform in a long time. I met a couple of friends in the area -- mostly musicians and artists, had a little chit chat, but left after a few performances.
Second stop was Blues, Soul, Funk stage at Heckle and Jeckle. The place is packed, mostly with European tourists. It was kind of warm inside because the place was quite full. Too bad I was enjoying the music but it was time for me to hop to another stage.
But before that, I already felt my stomach crying. I had to stop for food before I start eating someone. Me and my friend initially chose to eat at The Social at Ebro for some Persian food, but I am kind of allergic to too much smoke, and too much smoke there was. Apparently they are hosting UNKNWN stage -- and I don’t know what that is aside from they featured DJs playing a little electro. I really wanted Persian, but we settled for Senor Polo just across Ebro for some Cuban fix.
It was already dark, and the more the clock ticks, the more I feel like I need to move and hop to another stage. So we went to Century City Mall which was hosting probably the most jampacked of all stages -- Indie stage. I remember last year, I had to queue too long to get in. This time the venue is more spacious so I didn’t have to queue. But it was not big enough to enjoy the music. It was awfully crowded, I’d die if I stay there for 30 minutes. I mean, I don’t mind huge crowds when it comes to music, but if I’m gonna be squeezed by a multitude of people, I’d rather be in front and not at the back where I can barely enjoy anything. I am normally good with squeezing myself to the first row of people, but I have no patience for cool kids, you know what I mean. Indie music has become the coolest avenue for that kind of crowd. So we left.
Tumblr media
World Stage at Cabin, A.Venue
We walked to A.Venue and dropped by Cabin for World Stage. We were just in time to watch my favourite folk drum group, Adinkra Lumads Djembe Community, so I felt lucky despite my awful Indie stage experience. We stayed there for the next couple of bands, then left for Acceler8 for New Wave Stage. At this point, I am already so tired and my feet are swollen. It was already raining when we left the venue. But before we head back to I’m Hotel, we dropped by Mang Rudy’s for Grunge Stage and it was Seconds to Bliss performing. I felt the initial rush of adrenaline. This could be my favourite stage and I could stay there all night, but my companion who isn’t much into rock wasn’t feeling it so I needed to compromise.
We walked back to I’m Hotel and dropped by Art + Eclectic Stage. It was at the pool side bar of the hotel called Mermaid Bar which is a little quite too small for a music event. Lustbass was playing then, with Deejay Paesta doing live art. I needed a drink and I needed it quick, so we left the pool area and went downstairs at the hotel’s cafe by day and bar by night, Hops and Brews which at the time was also featuring a local band. I ordered what seemed like the strongest Negroni in my life. One glass is enough to make me feel sleepy so after that, I had to call it a night.
The next morning at around 7, my friend and I went out for breakfast and found out that Electronica Stage was still standing strong at TIME. I guess, sleep is really for the weak. We went back to the hotel to relax a little before another work week ahead.

Hello from the other side
The following week, 23 June, Intramuros is hosting the second leg of the festival. Me and my colleagues met at Shipyard Malate for a quick pre-game before heading to Puerta Real Gardens for Intramuros Main Stage. When we arrived there, a couple of other colleagues were already at the queue, and the queue was quite long. Some of us wanted to leave and find another place to hangout in. Jensen and the Flips was playing and they sound pretty good from outside. Luckily, some of my friends are patient enough to wait and we were able to get in at some point. We were about 20 colleagues, and by the time we got a good spot near the stage, Bras Pas Pas Pas Pas was playing. Followed by my favourites, The Ransom Collective, and Autotelic.

The Ransom Collective at Intramuros Main Stage
It was a fun fun night. We all left by the end of the event, but my friend and I didn’t quite feel like going home just yet. So we strolled around Malate, drinking beer, coffee, talking, singing, until it was sunrise. I was surprised that it was already 5:30 in the morning. She still had a flight to catch so even though we didn’t want to, we needed to say goodbye. What a lovely night that was.
So here’s me being happy...

Manila celebrates Cinco de Mayo
As Filipinos, we love celebrations in general. It is also a form of breather from the daily hardships that we go through. Small wonder why we never tend to skip these events, no matter how grand or simple. We have different holidays, feasts, and religious occasions for a variety of historical, cultural, and even political reasons—and it doesn’t stop there. Our multicultural background coupled by our love for celebrations has allowed us to extend our appreciation beyond local ones.
One of these is the historic Mexican event called the Cinco de Mayo. A festivity commemorating the date of the Mexican army’s victory during the Franco-Mexican War in the 1800s, Cinco de Mayo tells a lot about the story of Mexican-American culture and heritage. From the colorful banderitas down to the free-flowing tacos and nachos, every detail is carefully planned for this yearly tradition. With Latino beat all over the place, there is no excuse not to binge on alcohol with your family and friends!
In the Philippines, most establishments recognize this event and often throw festivities and promos on the day itself. To help you make the most out of this momentous day, we, at Zomato Philippines, have decided to pool our sources and came up with a list of bars and restaurants with promos intended just for this day.  So, if you are planning to celebrate Cinco de Mayo with us, you might want to try out the establishments listed below:
