Offering a free tarot reading but with a twist: using dixit cards instead of tarot cards!
If you would like a reading, send in an ask (it’s ok to be anonymous) with your question! Keep in mind this is only for fun, so it’s best to ask light questions.
Answering the first three asks!

I *love* the motif deck; the composition, the flexibility, your watercolors are wonderfully done, and while I'm hoping to be able to buy it eventually, I'm desperately poor and can't rn (if I can sell some earrings I maybe can though lol) but every time you post a sample reading it's... also dragging me to filth, and strangely tiding me over, so thank you and also wtf how do you do this
I'll be honest, I don't know how I do anything. I'm just trying to make it to Friday.
The Motif Deck was born from an idea I had a couple years ago, which was an oracle deck with no words attached to the cards so that the reader was encouraged to free-associate. But when I was sketching out the thumbnails I only had four colors in my pen set and I was working on it while at a laundromat so I couldn't get more because someone might steal my laundry. But I ended up really enjoying the simplicity of the color scheme so that got stuck in my head for a bit.
The drive to do an oracle deck with no standard meaning came from doing tarot for like six years (at that point, it's more like 10 now). I've always been a really talented reader and I picked up on the concept right away, but the symbols in tarot seemed a little hard to connect with (which lead me to make @thesweeneytarot ). So I started reading based on vibes. Like... what colors do I see most of in this spread, where are the cards facing, what seems out of place, how do we create a story based on what we have in front of us.
Proved effective! I was doing really well on tarot readings. It felt less like divination this way and more like a puzzle, like a story, like a game.
So what if there was a deck that was made for this style of reading? How do you even start that? What would it look like? Could I make something like that? Where do I start?
Then my friend introduced me to a game called Dixit, and it's sister game Mysterium, which uses untitled surreal art cards to tell a story. And I noticed that sometimes the art cards would have similar objects in them, like red ribbons or gold keys or blue fish. And it was interesting to me how the person in the storytelling position would make different associations than I did and I considered this a feature, not a bug.
I toyed a bit with doing divination with Dixit cards, but I found them a bit too obtuse for my liking and there were too many details to get caught up in.
So I was like... okay, I like this. What do I like about this? Let's do this but make it simpler.
...then covid.
So the idea sat on the backburner for awhile.
Then i got back into doing tarot readings and got the itch to try something new, started thinking about That oracle deck again, but now I'm thinking about those primary colors and how I tried like four different color combinations in my thumbnails and couldn't remember what they were meant to mean between them.
Then thinking about color theory. Like actual color theory but also the meme. And how the red ribbons in Dixit could be the strings of fate or they could be streaks of blood, or the red design on the hospital floor could be 'energetic and positive' or they could be... streaks of blood...
Like... sure, colors might have set meanings... to some people. But they also have meanings in their context. The color of a thing tells a story just like the thing itself.
So this is how I came up with the idea of repeating the images in different colorways.
So now we have my elements: no words, no inherent meaning, simple images, repeating objects interacting with each other, and cards repeating in different colorways.
And then the hard part, which was making it. I do actually have an art degree, so making the paintings wasn't difficult for me, but the logistics was hard. Because I had to decide which objects were common enough to be understood by everyone, and I had to pare the number down to something reasonable because this deck was bound to be massive.
Which took another year.
And now it's done! The slow parts go slow and the fast parts go fast.
I'm the kind of person who like... if I get into my head that I want to make something, I'll find a way to make it. And like... my philosophy for making things has always been that I intend to sell one, and that's to myself. But if I like it, someone else might, so I make it available for other people.
But I'm really glad that other people like it or are even just curious. Like, when you're making a 'product' (which almost feels rude to call something that I did for myself) the hardest part is getting people interested in it. So the fact that so many people think it's cool makes me so happy. (Am I cool now???)
Thank you!! And sorry for the overshare. I just got really excited.

Closet Witch Tip No.1
Oracle Cards
I highly recommend the game cards Dixit
- comes in so many “expansion packs” with different themes, the idea of the original game is all about intuition which means cards are ideal for readings
- for the closet witches who can’t openly buy labelled Oracle Cards
- similar size to tarot cards
- gives ability to find different meanings
Dixit cards hold intuitive meanings and are amazing for story building readings! I use the Journey pack as someone who isn’t a closet witch for some oracle readings and it’s absolutely amazing for those who wish to improve their intuition!
- good game for non witches as well :)
A link to the pack I use
Let me know if this is helpful and I’ll make Closet Witch/Beginner Witch Tip series
As always merry meet,
Atti <3

You know what? Fuck it. Board game night headcanons for each of the bound factions
UTOPIANS
Daniil likes to pretend that they do regular chess tournamets or idk play backgammon, but on most occasions they just play Scrabble. When it's Andrey's turn to pick he always chooses jenga, but nobody besides him and Peter wants to play it, so they just go into their separate corner and try to build the tallest tower possible while the rest silently watches in awe.
TERMITES
Artemy doesn't know shit about good board games so he would often bring them one of those cheap "educational" games where you have to answer question cards about animals or different types of leaves, and there are no other mechanics. Fortunately one day someone brought in a very old set of Monopoly with half of the pieces missing and they've been playing it every time ever since. They keep records of how many times each one of them won.
(Also, when Artemy isn't around, they play poker with nuts and raisins, but shhh)
HUMBLES
They only have two modes- either they play the dumbest possible party games like charades or pictionary, or they just play UNO in total, complete silence, with everyone sitting in a circle, cards clutched to their chests as close as possible. One time Clara came and started doing tarot readings with Dixit cards for laughs, and after everyone got some sort of "you're gonna die soon" prediction, they banned her from their game nights.

Hi! I did not want to respond to that trainwreck, but the discussion about tarot and therapy caused some interesting thoughts for me and I hope you don't mind me writing them into your askbox! (If you do, feel free to ignore.) Anyway, about the Christian therapists praying with their patients... somehow, as long as the patient is also Christian and open to it, I'm not offended and can see how it would help? I mean, faith can be (and I'm an atheist) helpful for your mental health, and using that connection to a higher power and reformulating the stuff you have problems with sounds helpful? But I have no experience with faith-based therapy. I do, however, have a therapist who occasionally uses cards from the game Dixit, that are pretty close to tarot cards in their style (and I'm sure some people use them as oracle cards.) :-)
Yeah as long as it's speaks to the patient and helps them I don't see a problem with it either tbh
Using pictures and art as a self guidance tool is very normal in therapy and that one person was just mad about something they wanted to believe was happening but wasn't
Also they're so sure that tarot is inherently tied to religion but like....which religion?
Because the people I have known who have been into tarot have been from a wide variety of faiths including atheist and none of them considered tarot a religious practice including the pagans
Mystical yes! Religious not so much
I'm sure there are people who consider it an extension of their religious practice but not everyone....

Deck of Many Things - Adventure Builder - Free Version
Tumblr media
Based on D&D's official video explaining their new adventure builder in the upcoming Book of Many Things.
You preferably do need to have some cards on hand. Although, they are not necessary, and I will give some examples of d100 tables from dndspeak.com you can use instead of cards. But if you already have a Tarot deck or one of the many versions of Dixit, you can use those cards to spark your inspiration as well.
Tumblr media
If you have a real deck of cards (Tarot or Dixit or whatever has some fancy images) lay them out like in the image above, and read the explanation below on how to interpret them for your adventure.
"The Party Gathers" Card
This card represents the situation the characters are in before the adventure starts, it might be a place that they meet, a person they’re visiting, a treasure they are drawn to for different reasons, or a dangerous creature unrelated to the adventure to follow.
Link to 100 interesting taverns and their tavernkeepers
“The Adventure Begins” Card
Place this card across the first card to represent how the adventure starts, it might be a situation that starts the action, an individual who gives the adventurers a quest, or an attack by a creature that prompts the party to follow it to its lair.
Link to 100 campaign start scenarios
“The Journey” Card
The transition from the introduction to the adventure location, probably a person, a creature, or a location the characters encounter along the way.
Link to 100 interesting forest locations
“The Entrance” Card
This card describes the entrance to the main dungeon or adventure location, it might represent a creature that guards the entrance or the physical details of the entrance itself.
Link to 100 interesting dungeon doors
“The Challenge” Cards
These cards (often 3, but can be any number of cards depending on how long you want this adventure to take) represent the various encounters the party will discover. They can take the form of a fight that breaks out, a puzzle that needs to be solved, or a situation that requires a social solution.
Link to 100 swamp encounters
“The Treasure” Card
Maybe the most important card of them all, the treasure card represents the item, boon, or creature the party finds at the end of the adventure. It is, however, guarded by what is found on the guardian card.
Link to 100 artifacts of great power
“The Guardian” Card
Also known as the “The Big Boss” card, this card represents the final threat that has to be overcome by the party. Although often a physical threat that has to be fought, the guardian can also take the form of a puzzle that is on a nerve-racking timer or someone that has to be convinced of something that goes completely against their nature.
Link to 100 eldritch horrors
I hope this helps you crafting amazing adventures for your players, even if you do not have $100,- to spend on this new product from Wizards of the Coast.

10 mutuals I’d like to know better
tagged by @shepgarrus and frankly, when I saw I was tagged, I went:
Tumblr media
thank u I'm honored
putting all under the cut because I have a heart
Last song I listened to: Anhedonia by Chelsea Wolfe featuring Emma Ruth Rundle WOW it had to be one of the most depressing songs I've got in my spotify playlist
Favourite content to watch: (hold on max I LOVE that you watch kpop stuff tell me your faves) I watch a lot of historical costuming (love 2 watch people make stays and corsets???) and I watch a decent amount of automotive journalism (growing up, I was a Top Gear fan, and yes, jeremy clarkson is a POS). I like some tarot stuff, too, dance/ballet, aaannndd I like to watch gaming play-throughs, especially of games I don't actually want to play but I'm nosy and want to know what happens/goes on.
Favourite games: other than ME, I don't really play games anymore. Older Tomb Raider is great (I think Legends is my favorite). It's absolutely military propaganda, but I enjoyed playing The Division and its sequel, and if I can mention board games, I'm a big fan of Dixit and any of those co-op detective games.
Favourite colour: hot red--red so warm some people might call it orange
Favourite animal: I can't choose one... Corvids (mainly crows and ravens, but I like jays too!), cats, snakes, and I could go on because of who I am as a person
Favourite food: Honestly, i could eat phở gà everyday. I'm also a huge fan of most dishes with rice or noodles of all cuisines.
Sweet, spicy or savoury: I need them all. Also TART.
Current obsessions: my current hyper fixations are inhaling romance novels, listening to ethel cain, and coming up with weird designs to paint my pottery pieces.
Last book I read: I finished the YA book by The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight (good god that title is longer than the novel) by Jennifer E Smith.. It was........ ok. I don't normally read YA but every time I do, I am reminded why: I'm too old for it. Anyway, all of you should go read Naomi Novik's Scholomance series, starting with A Deadly Education. Bro. That shit? Bro. It's so fucking good.
Last thing I Googled: the author for that YA novel
Relationship: single pringle (delusionally dating taz skylar in my fantasies)
Fun fact: OK MAX IF U READ THIS LET'S GO TO SOUTH KOREA (also much of the food is spicy, but I recommend bibimbap as a ~safe introduction~ or, of course, any kind of gogi--samgapsyul, galbi, bulgogi, dak bulgogi, etc. All excellent choices. Or if you want noodles, japchae!)
ok my ACTUAL fun fact: I've written a novel (romance, no smut) and I'm still working up the courage to even figure out how to write a query letter to send it out to a billion agents or publishing houses open for submissions :') the insecurity and fear of failure is REAL
uhhh honestly I don't have mutuals OTHER than shepgarrus/max because I am a tag crawler instead, I am Truly Unhinged.

Dixit Tarot
Major Arcana Part 3: the Hermit, Wheel of Fortune, Justice, and the Hanged Man
I compiled a Tarot deck from my Dixit deck and the three expansion decks I have: Origins, Revelations, and Odyssey. In this series, I go through my choices for each card and evaluate how well they work. Masterpost is here.
The Hermit (from Dixit Revelations) A turtle stands alone, looking upward. A view inside its shell shows a volcano covered in skeletons with a dragon inside. 5/5 - I was inspired to use a turtle for this card by @collegewitchboy who loves turtles. The Hermit has an inner expansiveness in some ways similar to that of the High Priestess, but this expansiveness is more earthbound than spiritual, born of long experience.
Wheel of Fortune (from Dixit Odyssey) An ape spins a wheel containing symbols of possible life events. In the background, a person stands, held captive with a ball and chain. 5/5 - Before getting my new Dixit Odyssey deck, my Wheel of Fortune was a card from Revelations showing a bunch of interlocking gears with faces on them. It worked, but this one is so much more specific to the meaning of the card in its depiction of the randomness of chance and our inability to escape the results. Also an ape is there bc why not.
Justice (from Dixit Odyssey) An angel attempts to escape the trip-hold of their own robe. They carry a scythe and a set of scales and wear a mask that is half face, half skull. 3/5 - Now I look closer at this, it’s more like a hybrid of Justice and Death. Actually, the reason I chose a new one for this was that the color scheme for the one I had previously was too close to what I had for the Hanged Man. It showed a scale with a feather outweighing a bag of coins, and I think that worked better conceptually. May need to reevaluate.
The Hanged Man (from Dixit) A marionette is seated in a plush chair, its strings hanging slack above it. 4/5 - This card does get at the sense of listlessness that I associate with the Hanged Man, but I feel it’s missing the sense of a change in perspective. If the color scheme issue is going to be a deciding factor here (and it does bug me), perhaps this is a better candidate for replacement than the Justice card, though I think I’ve looked for a different Hanged Man a few times and haven’t had much luck.
Up next: Death, Temperance, the Devil, and the Tower

did a tarot reading with Dixit cards and lemme tell you? worked real well

Note
I saw your post about letting the tarot card tell you it's position/not doing a traditional spread and: OMG that's how I read too! I thought it was just me not "knowing the right way" to read tarot.
Someone told me it was like an advanced, intuitive way to read tarot and I'm just like... fff idunno, its just how I do it.
My roommate introduced me to the game Dixit (and by extension Mysterium) and the way that the game is played very much relies on the 'readers' ability to sense unity through a series of static images. Like... if you get three cards that have a red line in them, you follow that red line when interpreting the meaning of the cards, for example.
Though its been awhile since I played either. They showed me those games and I was like... holy shit- this is how I've been doing tarot!
So like... I'll pull three cards and I'll look for the one that is the oddest one out. Either its a reversal or its in a different suit or there's something depicted on it that isn't in the other ones, or it doesn't match the querent in some way. I'll read that one as either the goal, the result, or the obstacle.
Then the other two, I'll look for the similarities. Like the characters on the cards are facing the same direction or there's a common color. And from there I'll build a story based on what I see and decide if that third card is the goal, result, or obstacle.
It's something that requires the querent to really look at the cards themselves instead of just the meaning. And the meaning of a card can change on any situation. Theyre a dynamic oracle that can take on many meanings. But oh- it feels good. Like it feels right! And like... no one is 100% correct 100% of the time, but I've been able to give some damn good readings with this method.
So the lady that kind of stuck her nose up at me about it was a total weirdo.
