Somehow when this book fell out of my overflowing, never managed bookshelf, I considered it as a sign that the universe was sending me to pick this one as next🤩The last few days was very unfair to me since I couldn't decide between,'The Silent Patient,The Ikigai' as my next read😅(yeah!some books are always meant to be only in your TBR😅)But hey, when someone like @divakarunichitra 's work enters the battle you know who is gonna win for sure😍
P.S.:Book 14 of 2023!

Hello Bookbuds,
It's mid-july and I've finally come out of my slump. I read 'The Palace of Illusions' by @divakarunichitra in one sitting and absolutely loved it! I mean the book was written so well.
Book Review #3
Rating: 5/5 ⭐
Synopsis: This is a tale that reimagines the Epic Indian Tale- Mahabharata - from the point of view of a woman.
We follow Panchali, from her birth, through her childhood, as she navigates being married to the Pandavas who are cheated out of their kingdom, we see her life in exile with her husbands and her role in the greatest war of their age, her unspoken duels with her mother-in-law, her friendship with the ever charming Krishna and her secret attraction to the man her husbands hate.
Review: Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni shows us a different side of this epic tale. From the very first page her words have kept me engaged. I couldn't put down the book, long after I read the last line. I felt like I was a silent observer in the courts of the greatest Kings of Bharat. I felt like a part of the story and I didn't want to come out of the web of words that Chitra had spun.
There were instances were I felt the loss of a character as strongly as Panchali and where her anger has sweeped into me. There were times when I wished I could know more of another character and times where I felt just as betrayed as Panchali. Even though, I knew the story of Mahabharata by heart, it didn't stop ke from enjoying and engaging with this beautiful book. In fact, I believe it made me more invested. I loved Chitra's writing.
This feminine retelling of the tale is relevant even in today's chaos filled world. I would definitely recommend this book to everyone of you, who wants to know more about the ancient history of India (and yes, this is more history than myth, because there are archeological proofs uncovered that prove that Mahabharata actually took place) and to those who loved Mahabharata, as this story Interprets the tale in a different light.

The seed of this war was sown long before you were born, though perhaps you did nudge it along a bit. But I'm glad about the choice you have made. . . BOOK:- The palace of Illusion AUTHOR:- @divakarunichitra GENRE:- Mythological Fiction RATING:- 5 stars . . EXPERIENCE THROUGHOUT THE BOOK From the beginning I was extremely excited to start this book and as it was a mythological genre that I love dearly and which excited me even more. I am always ready to explore the mythological world and its controversial world and when I came across this book, its story and the reviews I heard about it made me choose this book, and now as I finished this book I feel delighted to choose this book. I have heard a lot of stories about the characters of Mahabharata in this book I saw some stories in action and it gave a mesmerizing experience to see everyone in action, the story of Draupadi is sad about how she was humiliated in front of the whole sabha and that moment was a crucial moment of her entire life and is the saddest part and also a turning point of the story which wrote the Mahabharata wartime, Draupadi curses everyone to die because of this day and takes an oath that she will not comb her hair till she bathes in Kauravas blood, bheema takes an oath that he will pierce Dussasana's chest and drink his blood. He will break Duryodhana's thighs and hit his head when he prostrates on the ground and Arjuna oath to kill Karna. There is one paragraph in the book which gives me a chill in my spine about the Mahabharata story as we all know Mahabharata has been written by none other than Ganesha himself ( the god of beginning and the youngest son of Shiva and Parvati) and Sage Vyasa narrated it. This is the line that gave me a chill "The gloomy light played tricks on me: it seemed that two figures were sitting inside the circle. One of them was the sage. The other - way, he appeared to have an elephant's head." Relatable events from books that relate to those times The world of Mahabharata will come alive with the story of the author, you will be able to see and experience the journey of Draupadi from your own eyes of imagination. https://www.instagram.com/p/CmJdW7vLbfz/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

🌟Book Review🌟 The Palace of Illusions by @divakarunichitra 🍃We all are aware of the great war that Mahabharata tells us about which led to the destruction of the entire mankind that was fought all because of a woman. But is it entirely the whole truth? 🍃This book answers all our questions to a point as it reveals the Mahabharata from Draupadi’s perspective – from a women’s perspective. 🍃Starting from her birth, to her marriage, to fulfilment of her fate, her hate and her love towards Karna, her humiliation, her exile, her rage, to her last breath all is enclosed in a little over 300 pages. 🍃The thing I liked the most about the book is the author didn’t try to typecast Draupadi to a specific role to a specific role of a daughter, wife, or mother. She was a woman who fought for herself and didn’t depended on anyone to protect her in anyways. She lived for herself first. This gave the Mahabharata a completely new perspective. 🍃As someone who has read the Mahabharata but always wanted to read it from a women’s perspective it has surprised me in every way. I am glad I have read this book. The storytelling was so different. I will surely recommend this book. Anybody who want to know the Mahabharata beyond what we have known from a long time can surely read it you won’t be disappointed. - 4/5 @goodreads __________________________ Follow @infusingwithsres for more bookish content Follow @infusingwithsres for Poetry/quotes/mental health Tags🌟 #bookstagram #book #palaceofillusions #thepalaceofillusions #bookrecommendations #bookreview #bookboxindia #bookish #booklover #bookphotography #bookofpoets #writersofig #bookstagrammer #bookstagrammerofindia #booksilove #bookworms #bookrecommendation #explorepage #viral #viralbook #photooftheday #bookreviewers #infusingwithsres #divakarunichitra #jobsinbooks #bookcommunity (at 𝒦𝑜𝓁𝓀𝒶𝓉𝒶 - 𝒯𝒽𝑒 𝒞𝒾𝓉𝓎 𝒪𝒻 𝒥𝑜𝓎) https://www.instagram.com/p/CRWT9fwlLoI/?utm_medium=tumblr

Book 94 of 2021. A woman wakes up one morning expecting to find her usual morning scenes- her husband rushing to work, her two young children leaving for school and a cup of tea waiting for her. Only, this morning she wakes up to utter silence and not a single soul in sight. It's eerily quiet and nothing is as it used to be. From here on out her day goes from bizzare to bad. I didn't know what to expect when I started reading this book. I naively expected a tale about the lockdown blues or disconnect and what I got was SO MUCH BETTER. I mainy picked this up because of @divakarunichitra kicks off this crown sourced story and I will always read anything she writes. She starts off this story and several other writers take this tale forward. Nicely done. Surprising. Twisty. And so good. So glad I gave this a read. . . . #whimsybookworm2021reads #booksofinstagram #booksbooksbooks #igreads #Kindle #readingwithhci #bookrecommendations #bookreviews #fiction #womenwhoread #womenwriters #bibliophile #booksmakemehappy #morebookslessalgorithm #booksandcoffee #quickreads #booklovers #bookbloggers (at India) https://www.instagram.com/p/CQv0p_rpLOI/?utm_medium=tumblr

Every coin has two sides and author Divakaruni takes the onus on herself to shed some light on the other(woman's) side of this famous 'coin' we grew up hearing about- Ramayana. The book is retold from Sita's point of view or as we call it- Sitayan. The book is humane and doesn't put any characters on pedestal-often how gods are. It's a story about struggles, various form of love and extents we go to for our loved ones-even if it means hurting them. For instance, Kaikeyi's filial affection for her son makes her do the worst things to him. Love is a compilcated emotion. It makes us gallant and feeble at the same time. Coming to our central character - Sita. In the original epic, we carry an image of her as this stoic person who's quiet most times. In general perception she is considered a quiet powerless and extremely patient character. Chitra B. takes us to explore this non-familiar sita who likes to joke around, is trained in self defence, knows how to balance relationships,is a competent decision maker among many other things. She's tested almost all her life and faces all the drawbacks valiantly. What's to love- Chitra's retelling that do not vilify men to redeem women. This diwali let's celebrate our sita along with our ram by enjoying this beautiful retelling of Ramayan. @divakarunichitra #diwali2020 #ramayana #sitayan #bookrecommendation #review #ram #sita #goodoverevil #lanka #ayodhya #booksofinstagram #bookblogger #epic #mythology #readersofindia #india #indiagram #indianbookstagrammer #indianbooks #indianblogger #bookishphotography #bookreader #readerscommunity #readersofig #goodreadschallenge2020 #goodreads #historicalfiction #bookclub #ramleela #ram #laxmipuja https://www.instagram.com/p/CHkPhHQA3RF/?igshid=1hmf5uumoq6ba

This day, last year… we were in New York at the hospital. Since then, the Bendre-Behls have identified two time periods – B.C. (Before Cancer) and A.C. (After Cancer). Lately, my motto has been to move on & keep trying new things, and detoxing and rejuvenating is on top of the list. So on the occasion of our 17th wedding anniversary, I thought let’s take a break and go on a road trip to @atmantan. Before Cancer, Goldie would have never agreed to something like this but I love how he’s changed 😄 He has put everything on standby and has been focusing so much on me… and now I’m turning the focus back on him. P.S. Happy Anniversary @goldiebehl, I love you more than you could imagine… thank you for being my pillar of strength in health & sickness… literally!

Maya - Illusion - A world we live in! . . Having understood Mahabharata only at the surface, I always wondered what's so interesting about this epic which contains so many characters and such complex relationships. 🧐 I would have never read Mahabharata with an open heart if it wasn't for the voice of Draupadi. I am grateful to the contemporary authors such as @divakarunichitra who have revamped the greatest mythology stories by providing a different perspective to it. The feminist in me rejoice this. ✨ Thanks to the #ThePalaceOfIllusions I could finally connect with the greatest epic of ancient India. 💖 . . "She knew it all yet she did nothing to stop it. Not because she couldn't. Only because she too was a human who didn't want to." . . It was a pleasure to meet Draupadi who, like many other women, had deepest secrets, mysterious love affair, destructive vengeance, and complicated friendship. 🤯 And, at the same time, like many other women, she was stronger than her husbands, an ideal queen, a loyal wife, a caring mother, and a woman of substance. 🥰 She was just like many other women yet there was nobody like her. She was Panchaali - the spirit of the kingdom of Panchal, who changed the course of history. 👸 . . What came as a surprise to me is that, although, I picked this book to know more about Draupadi, I eventually became inquisitive about two strong characters. The notorious, charming, and mysterious Krishna and the humble, just yet unfateful Karna. 😌 I can't stop wondering how do I get to know more about them, how can I meet them, and what would it be like to step into their world. 🙃 . . But, with every page flip, my emotions kept swinging from one extreme to another. Why wouldn't it be, after all, I had stepped into 'The Palace of Illusions'. 🌌 . . Grateful to dearest @thehighheeltalk for gifting me this timeless treasure. You don't know what a priceless gift you've given me. I can never thank you enough for this. Stay blessed in abundance! 💖 . . . #AlienDoor #MoreToExplore . . #mythology #mahabharata #draupadi #bookstagrammers #booklovers #readingislife #readingaddict #indianmythology #bookreview https://www.instagram.com/p/B76cw1ppRlc/?igshid=wf9zf71iw1my
