Stray Kids returned with the digital single 'Double Knot' on October 9th at 6pm.
With their first overseas showcase tour 'UNVEIL TOUR 'I am...', Stray Kids met fans on the global stage through 14 performances in 13 regions around the world, establishing themselves as a 'next-generation K-pop representative group'.
Stray Kids are showing musical growth every time, boasting their ability to write lyrics, compose, and produce. The digital single 'Double Knot' was also performed by himself, showing another leap forward.
'Double Knot' is a song that contains the determined ambition of tying shoelaces twice and running without hesitation.
With the lyrics "Wherever I go, I'm Runnin', tying up my loose shoelaces again, Movin', I can go anywhere", it sings the confidence of being able to go anywhere and do anything.
The attractive vocals and sensual rapping on the strong beat of the electronic trap hip-hop genre further heighten the mood of the song.
Stray Kids' producing group 3RACHA released a song with the same title in 2017.
This time 'Double Knot' is a song with the same song name and a completely different feel, bringing newness and twists to the fans.
Stray Kids gathered a lot of attention with their colorful group dances in every comeback. Visualizing the double knot, the meaning of 'Double Knot', this time, you can't take your eyes off the performance.
The music video, filmed in Los Angeles and Korea, attracts attention by harmonizing the energetic sound of the nine members.
The concept photo that maximizes the charm of Stray Kids is a pleasure to watch. The scratch makeup and hard eyes that give off a raw feel visually convey the message of the new song.
Starting with the release of the digital single 'Double Knot', Stray Kids is carrying out a large-scale project that will dominate the music industry in the second half of 2019.
They made great performances on the global stage through overseas showcase tours, and will go on their first solo concert 'District 9: Unlock' on November 23 and 24.
As a group that has pioneered a new chapter with their own music, it is expected that they will move the hearts of fans with their differentiated charm in their solo performances.

[ Turbulence ]
↳ District 9 : Unlock World Tour
↳ Xiang and the boys fly back to Korea. Xiang gets cold. They encounter some turbulence.
m.list
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
✧・゚: *✧・゚:* *:・゚✧*:・゚✧
Xiang has never been a fan of planes. She finds them extremely uncomfortable and she always gets a headache while up in the air. She hates the feeling of takeoff and landing. Even the slightest amount of turbulence makes her jumpy and hyper aware. There's a lack of control that Xiang hates experiencing when she boards a plane; like she's handing over her life to the pilot for the period of the flight. If she ever wants to fall asleep, she has to take sleeping pills just to calm her nerves and hope it will be enough for her to be able to rest. Overall, she's not a fan.
Xiang taps Chan's shoulder and waits for him to stand so she can retake her place between him and Changbin- who hasn't woken up once since they took off, lucky bastard-, pulling her sleeves over her hands in a useless attempt to become a little warmer. Another thing that is unpleasant about planes is the inability to control the temperature. She'd left Los Angeles in a knit sweater and figured it would be enough to keep her warm during the flight. However, she's learned that it is not and she finds herself tucking her legs up inside her sweater to try and centralize her body heat further. It seems no matter the situation, Xiang is always cold.
As she picks out a movie to watch, she doesn't really acknowledge why Chan is shifting around so much in the seat next to hers until a piece of clothing is being held out to her.
He holds the hoodie he'd been wearing in his hand for her to take, "Here."
"Is this you flexing that you actually have body heat?"
"Is this you continuing to refuse to let anyone do anything nice for you?"
Xiang glares at Chan and he winks back at her, dropping his hoodie in her lap. Before she can protest, he's putting his earbuds in and leaning back in his seat with his eyes closed. Xiang grumbles unhappily but still relents to swapping out her relatively light sweater for Chan's thicker hoodie. Her lithe figure fits well within the confines of it, all of her curled up inside of the hoodie as she puts in her own earbuds to watch Crazy Rich Asians. Just as Xiang has relaxed fully after about thirty minutes with her focus on the movie, the plane shakes and Xiang grabs the armrests of her seat in a death grip.
She tugs her earbuds out and looks around, immediately on edge. She sets her feet on the ground and feels for her seatbelt, checking it's still secured across her hips as she waits for something to be said. It doesn't take long for the seatbelt sign to turn on with a ding.
"Ladies and gentlemen, the Captain has turned on the fasten seatbelt sign. Please return to your seats and keep your seatbelts fastened. Thank you."
A different woman repeats the same announcement in Korean.
That's not what Xiang really had in mind but if it was something bad, they'd tell the passengers. No, they wouldn't, they wouldn't want to make anyone panic. Xiang would definitely panic. Trying to rationalize in her head, she makes herself breathe evenly. There is still a heavy feeling of anxiety sitting in Xiang's chest minutes later, the plane already hitting turbulence again. Chan pries Xiang's fingers off the armrest between them and intertwines them with his, squeezing her hand reassuringly. Her heart starts beating a little faster but her anxiety eases.
When she looks over at him, he's leaned back in his seat with his eyes closed and earbuds in. Jerk. She can't protest if he's pretending to be asleep. She passes her increased heart rate off as nerves from the turbulence and sits back in her seat. She puts her earbuds back in and starts the movie once again. She can't seem to focus on the romcom, eventually relenting to look down at her and Chan's hands.
It's been a little over two years since Chan mistook dream Xiang and real Xiang, placing her in his project group only to be chewed out by her even though she eventually decided to stay anyway. Anytime one (or several) of the boys annoys her too much, she blames Chan for getting her into this mess, making her get attached when she technically never should have been a part of his group in the first place. Of course, it's all empty words because how could she actually regret the best thing to ever happen to her? And she'd never willingly admit it, but she's extremely grateful for Chan because he's the reason she's a member of his group that she technically never should have been a part of in the first place.
Xiang holds a lot of respect for Chan; that's another fact she'll never willingly admit. He's caring and has a good heart. He's dedicated and one of the hardest working people she knows. He's loyal to the group and his friends. He somehow always knows just what to say or do. He's a good person. He's also a major dork and super lame. Somehow he can simultaneously be the most responsible and most childish member and Xiang truly cannot understand it. Not to mention that he is extremely talented in so many things. Vocals, dance, rap, composing, producing.
And he's very attractive. As she lifts her gaze to look at Chan's profile, she convinces herself that it's normal for her stomach to flip a little when she's looking this closely at an attractive person. And there’s no shame in admitting someone’s attractiveness.
Though she refuses to ever let Chan be nice to her without giving him a little grief about it, he still consistently is. He's kind to her when she doesn't think she deserves kindness and takes care of her when she won't admit she needs to be taken care of. Involuntarily, Xiang feels safe with Chan.
Despite her self-loathing and her anxiety. And the way she’s convinced herself she’ll never be good enough. Or how she can only ever feel pretty on an empty stomach, hunger clawing at her insides in a painful way she’s grown fond of. Amidst it all, being next to Chan makes her feel safe. Chan makes her feel safe. Safety is something Xiang has been having a hard time finding for months now.
She realizes that if she could, she would never leave his side.

STRAY KIDS INSPIRE THEIR GENERATION TO PICK UP THE MIC
K-POP’S YOUNG DISRUPTORS NAVIGATE ADULTHOOD ALONGSIDE THEIR FANS
Stray Kids are fighting with their fans to determine who adores the other most. The fans started it, erupting into an impromptu chant inside Microsoft Theater in downtown Los Angeles: "We love you! We love you!," they shout, repeatedly. The sound is deafening, catching the boy band off guard. The eight members retaliate with their own impassioned chorus. "We love Stay," they respond, referencing their legions of international devotees. Both sides scream until, ultimately, Stray Kids admit defeat; they stand awkwardly onstage, apparently unsure how to receive the unrivaled adulation. Bang Chan, the Korean group's steadfast leader, looks around the venue in awe, while sensible vocalist Seungmin makes a heart with his hands and points to the crowd, resolved to have the last word.
This is not the first time Stray Kids has lost the battle of who-loves-who. It’s happened in cities across the United States, from New York to Dallas, amidst their District 9: Unlock world tour. It's canon, chiseled into the group's short but colorful history, alongside such viral moments as "Seungmin in the building" and "I'm not gonna leave you behind." Displays of affection between idols and fans are nothing new but, with Stray Kids, they’re never forced.
"It doesn't matter how old you are," Bang Chan tells the crowd mid-show, intensity building with every word. "It doesn't matter if you're a boy or a girl, or whoever you choose to be. It doesn't matter where you're from — everyone is welcome in our special district."
Two weeks prior to this performance, Stray Kids — Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N — are gazing from a conference room in a Times Square skyscraper. The sky is gray, but that doesn't deter Hyunjin from posing for a series of selfies against the floor-to-ceiling window. As the lithe dancer works his angles, his bandmates are scattered throughout the room. Han props his phone against the room’s A/V controls to watch an anime; Bang Chan hunches over his own phone, thumbing the screen intently; Lee Know rests his eyes; and Australia-born Felix gossips about last night's Grammy Awards. Like any teen, he's obsessed with Billie Eilish, and her historic Grammys sweep is hard for him to fathom. "Can you believe it?" he says, eyes wide and sparkling. "She's only 18. It's amazing."

But at 19, the deep-voiced rapper, whose delicate features betray his cherry-red hair, has similarly found success at a young age. Within a year of their 2018 debut, Stray Kids received 11 rookie awards and released five EPs. In fact, while Eilish and her brother Finneas were crafting homemade beats in a Highland Park bedroom, JYP Entertainment's tenacious boy wonders were honing their own unique sound in a small studio in Seoul, South Korea. Members Bang Chan, Changbin, and Han comprise the group's primary production trio, 3RACHA, and they've been making music together since their trainee days in 2017. Introspective early tracks like "Start Line" and "Runner's High" laid the foundation for Stray Kids' sonic identity: With the disruptive power of punk, they deliver astute, poignant lyrics about the bristly experience of growing up and its side effects.
"The things we worry about and the things Stay worry about — we share a lot of the same struggles," Han tells MTV News. "Even though our ambitions are different, we work hard just the same. It becomes our inspiration musically." As the creative force behind two of the group's more vulnerable cuts, "19" and "Sunshine," the 19-year-old rapper reveals his innermost thoughts and anxieties to the fans. But that honesty can be frightening.
"It's nerve-racking for us," Bang Chan says. "Sometimes we think, 'If we talk about this, will people understand? Will they relate?' We're always thinking about how we can reach people through our lyrics because we want our music to help."
That empathy has been woven throughout their music from the beginning. Stray Kids’ first singles, the pre-debut track "Hellevator" and the darkly riotous "District 9," are full of angst and aggression, soundtracks for those who balk at societal pressures and follow their own rules. "My Pace" is an empowering anthem teeming with energy and affirmations. ("Don't compare yourself with others," Bang Chan sings on the hook. "It's OK to run slower.") Songs like "Voices" and "Side Effects" offer an intimate glimpse into the tumultuous mind of a young person still figuring out their place in the world, while "Miroh" and "Victory Song" are bursting with big sounds and youthful bravado.
youtube
"Young people today may feel a bit trapped, like you're constantly being told what to do and you feel like you can't speak for yourself," Bang Chan says. "So we want people our age to feel comfortable speaking out and talking about what they think."
By encouraging their fans to examine their own growing pains, to feel everything, they ensure that their message is never didactic. "All strayed steps come together to make a new road," they say at their concert. And with their latest release, "Levanter," off their sixth EP Clé: Levanter, Stray Kids come to the understanding that the journey is more meaningful than the destination, and the path ahead is ultimately theirs to define. So they double knot their shoelaces and dash full-speed ahead. "We might not know what the actual goal is, but as long as we're running hard and we're running as a group, whatever comes is going to be good anyway," Bang Chan says. "We just wish that a lot of people out there could listen to our music and get a lot of energy and hope from it."
Like 25-year-old Selina, who connects to their lyrics because she's "still on that journey of figuring out what I want to do and who I want to be," she says, clutching her Stray Kids light stick (a compass, now featuring Bang Chan's name written on the handle) outside of Microsoft Theater. Her friend Joseline, 18, likes that the members "have other priorities and interests outside of being a K-pop idol" that they reveal through daily Instagram posts, livestreams on the V Live app, TikToks, and weekly YouTube videos and vlogs. "He's not just Han from Stray Kids, he's Han Jisung — rapper, producer, and person," she adds.
For Kambree, 17, the group has a "positive vibe" that makes her feel happy and accepted. "They make us feel like family, no matter who you are or what you look like," she adds. Her best friend Lexxie, 17, says Stray Kids "make me feel like I'm not alone with my issues." And So Yun, 30, finds their mix of "hard-hitting EDM" and "super angsty" lyrics reminiscent of the emo bands she listened to in high school. "It's the same rebellious spirit that I felt as a teen when you want to be your own person and figure out your own voice."
Their music has given Louis, 30, a newfound perspective. "I like the ['Levanter'] lyric, 'I want to be myself, I don't care' — that line resonates with me because we live in a society where people try to mold you, but at the same time, I just want to myself and at this point, I really don't care!"
Best friends Ella and Jazlynn, both 19, met online through their mutual love of Stray Kids, and they've customized their light sticks with glitters and holographic stickers of their favorite members' names. "Half of the group is technically my age, so I can look at them and see how successful they are, and it gives me inspiration to work harder," Jazlynn says, an I.N banner at her side. And while they do feel comforted by the authenticity in the group's songs, as Ella explains, it's who they are off-stage that many fans connect with most. "When you see Felix do the Renegade, it's like, 'I do that too!'"
Their ability to ignite the stage with powerful performances while staying true to themselves behind the scenes — as both K-pop's reigning meme kings and young men navigating adulthood — is what makes Stray Kids so relatable to a generation that experiences much of their lives online. "This generation is comfortable being alone," Changbin says. "We have our phones. We don't always need to be talking to each other to be together. Sometimes a text is fine."
And they're pretty normal, too. Bang Chan and Changbin watch videos from Tomorrowland and Ultra Music Festival to help clear their minds in the studio; the tracks "Road Not Taken" and "Stop" are the direct results of such self-care. Han's idea of a perfect day would be to "not come out of my room for 24 hours." If he could spend all day watching YouTube videos, he would. In fact, he says "Sunshine" was inspired by a scene in the Korean drama Boys Over Flowers, where the main characters travel to an idyllic private island. Though Han’s larger-than-life presence dominates the stage, he identifies as an introvert and admits he hopes to "overcome" his shyness. "On my ideal perfect day, I'd try new experiences and meet new people comfortably," he says. "You can do it!" Bang Chan adds, encouragingly.
Youngest member I.N makes time to go shopping, though he prefers to "chill" on his days off. And when Felix isn't playing video games or destroying kitchens with Seungmin, he frequents Seoul's finest dog cafes. "We have so many dog lovers in our group," he says, smiling. "I've been looking at a lot of dogs, and I feel like they help you feel better. I really want a dog with the team." Jisung points at Seungmin, whose nickname is "puppy," and Bang Chan adds, "We already have one." Seungmin scrunches his nose and says, "No way!" (But Han insists he's a "really bad boy.")
Meanwhile, Hyunjin, who’s known by fans for his theatrics and commanding stage presence is extremely open with his emotions. He frequents V Live, where he offers personal advice to viewers of his video series Hyunjin’s Counseling Center. But the 19-year-old admits that opening up to Stay has helped him, too. "I don't always have a lot of confidence," he says. “When I want to be comforted or when I’m feeling kind of sad, Stay are really good at consoling me. I want to be able to repay that comfort in full."
"The connection between Stay and Stray Kids would be family," Felix adds. Han jokes that they're the "annoying and mischievous" little brothers. But it's that sense of connection, among the group as well as with their fans, that has cemented Stray Kids as the vital voices of their generation.
"The struggles we're going through — anxiety, stress, school, love — they tell us to take our time and see where our path leads," Selina says. "It's OK to stray from it. Just stay true to yourself. I always associate that with them. The idea of 'You Make Stray Kids Stay' is to find out what it is that grounds you and just keep going."
And Stray Kids don't plan to slow down any time soon. Having wrapped their Clé series at the end of last year with Levanter, 2020 offers an exciting fresh page for new musical experimentations, starting with the three original unit songs the group produced for the tour. "Wow" is a sexy R&B track from dancers Lee Know, Hyunjin, and Felix. It's also their first explicit love song. "We wanted to try a sexy song because it's a special stage," Hyunjin says, explaining that the dancers worked on their own lyrics in addition to helping with the slinky choreography. "We wanted to include moves that we haven't tried before," Lee Know adds, noting that they wanted something sexy and powerful. "So it was a new experience."
"My Universe," featuring vocalists Seungmin and I.N with an assist from Changbin, is a bright pop ballad. "I always wanted to try something like that," I.N says, eyes smiling. Seungmin tells Changbin from across the table, "Thanks for helping." And 3RACHA's "We Go" oozes confidence over a scorching trap beat. "We made 'We Go' last time we were here [in the United States]," Bang Chan says. "We made around three to four songs in one day… The performance is really fun as well. And those two [he points to Han and Changbin] got to have the chance to use Autotune live."
They also released their first English singles in January, a process that rapper Changbin, known for his furious flow, calls "difficult." ("It was fun," Hyunjin argues beside him.) "I was listening to Changbin's rap [in 'Double Knot'] like, 'Why is this so fast? What am I going to write?'" Bang Chan says. "I tried to write it as easy as possible so that he could speak it well. I'm really glad that they could record it really well for me."
In March, they'll debut in Japan. And there's another mixtape project in the works, kicked off by the digital release of "Gone Days," a relaxed, Autotune-laced anthem for the "OK Boomer" generation. A play on the Korean word kkondae, it describes someone who pushes outdated ideas and expectations onto another based only on their age and status — and signals the arrival of a bold new direction. "I think [young people] now just need to be more comfortable with themselves," Bang Chan says of his inspiration for the track. "By being yourself, you never know what's going to happen."
"I always believe that one person can change the world," he adds. "So if you have a thought or an idea, just let it out. Because who knows? You can make the world a much better place."

Surreal Artist Cynthia Tom resonates the autumn season with soul with Open Studios.
As the year slides to its conclusion, the season of autumn is a special one for artists, especially for this reporter who began a journalistic venture more than 25 years ago, covering the Open Studios event in San Francisco’s Sunset District.
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/47286339d9bea76774dacd5e71372e44/tumblr_inline_pht17s4xjg1v3hou1_540.jpg)
Among my first articles about artists in the neighborhood at that time for The Sunset Beacon Newspaper, back in the fall of 1993 was surrealist Cynthia Tom.
Her work was then and still is in my mind a touchstone. Back then, I was entering my 30s and her work, as I now realize, opened a door to me. My article about the Open Studios via ArtSpan was my third article or so, for the Sunset Beacon which serendipitously brought me to it.
Yes, there were other artists I covered, like the eclectic and at times whimsical Murai. But, even in spontaneously playful art pieces, Cynthia, even back then always express a purpose.
Over years I have had the privilege to witness her work grow and become more profound with each step of her own inner-journey. Cynthia has continuously illustrated how important it is for art to help the community in which it is expressed.
Whether she was uncovering her immediate family’s past in her art or trying to unlock the secrets of a culture’s ideas and social mores, Cynthia has remained true to herself.
As a philosophy major in college, as I struggled with academia, I clung to the saying of Blaise Pascal. “The heart has its reasons which reason knows nothing of... We know the truth not only by the reason, but by the heart."
And from that saying, I recognized that the subconscious made conscious is what a surrealist is all about. But unlike Salvador Dali and others, Cynthia’s surrealist art only wants to illuminate the human and restore its sanity, not pull it a part and leave it on the floor.
At least, that is how I understand her work, especially now. Cynthia emphasizes healing, restoration and empowerment. Whereas, Dali mostly shocked people.
That’s not to say that some of Cynthia’s work is not thought-provoking, it is! But for me, her work has always emphasized the key elements in humanity, which is the soul or spirit. That aspect is what brought her into doing retreat-workshops and conferences, like “A Place of Her Own,” utilizing art and art skills, that promote healing.

It intrigues me that Open Studios occurs in the autumn when celebrations like Halloween and Day of the Dead are in full swing. “The lifting of the veil” or the time of the year when the divide between the physical tangible world thins and gets close to the etherial or “other side” is what autumn brings. The entire season hints as it were that there is something much more to life than what we encounter day to day on the surface level.
To me, it seems that Cynthia’s surrealist art and sensibilities, while universal and for all seasons, coincide very much with the autumn. She has participated in Day of The Dead celebrations and art installations over the years, either as one who has presented an art installation or helped other artists in their works.
Busy as she is Cynthia is not resting on any laurels as she says. “I have so much more work to pour out of my soul.”
In addition to her annual Open Studios this coming Nov. 10th and 11th, she has been be participating in the 2018 SOMArts Dia de Los Muertos Group Exhibition, a multicultural community celebration of inclusion and strength, which will conclude on Nov. 9.
Cynthia's piece entitled: Hungry Ghosts: Our Ancestral Patterns is partly based upon the research and study she conducted delving into the complex history of Angel Island - often referred to as ‘The Ellis Island of the West Coast.’ And, it has been on display since Oct. 6.
“To Heal, Grow Strength and Power Cynthia says, you must explore your ancestral patterns. What happened to twist your family's coping mechanisms? What historical event reshaped your family forever? You can change the trajectory, she says. Wake Up!”

Caught in the protest crossfire, Canter’s Deli stays open to distribute water
It was late Saturday morning when Marc Canter’s phone began to light up with texts.
As thousands of protesters gathered at nearby Pan Pacific Park to protest the killing of George Floyd by a Minneapolis police officer, the owner of Canter’s Deli was preparing to open his dining room for the first time in more than two months.
“I knew the protests were moving along 3rd toward Fairfax, which isn’t far from us. My daughter texted me,” Canter, 55, said. “I had relatives discussing with me whether we should close.”
But Canter’s, the 89-year-old delicatessen that has been on Fairfax Avenue since 1953, did not close, even as a line of 30 to 40 police officers formed on the street outside.
By noon, a sign had been placed in the restaurant’s window expressing support for the Black Lives Matter movement. Canter and a few other employees began distributing 25 cases’ worth of water bottles to protesters and police, and offering food and use of the deli’s restrooms.
“We tried to keep the peace, just staying neutral,” Canter said. “The police couldn’t accept because they were on guard, but people appreciated the gesture. It was hot outside.”
Canter said that most of the deli’s business on Saturday came from protesters ordering sandwiches or pastries. “We became like a pit stop,” he said. “If you’re walking around all day, at some point you have to eat.”
But clashes between protesters and police soon escalated. A small trash can fire broke out in the street, and police began firing rubber bullets into the crowd; just one block south, several police cruisers were set ablaze on Beverly Boulevard around 3 p.m.
“I know it sounds crazy, but if the police weren’t there, maybe there would have been less violence?” Canter said. “I don’t think the situation needed to become so extreme.”
Canter’s believes that black lives matter.
In support of the Black Lives Matter movement, we are putting out free bottles of water for protestors.
Please stay safe.

Many of the shuttered businesses around Canter’s — including a nearby hair salon and clothing store — were looted and heavily damaged. The restaurant, however, escaped unscathed, aside from what Canter called “a drop of graffiti.”
“Most of the protesters were not there to cause problems but to express themselves,” he said. “The ones that did turn violent, it seemed like they came to take advantage of the situation. It’s really unfortunate.”
Keeping the restaurant — known for its 24-hour service — open throughout the chaos, Canter said, was a decision he made by default.
“I don’t think we would have escaped damage if we’d closed.” he said. “If you stay open, they’re not going to target you.”
“The cops told us, ‘If anyone gives you trouble, tell them you work at Canter’s.’”
Marc Canter
During the 1992 L.A. Riots, Canter, then 27, said he remembers a car filled with would-be looters driving past once they saw the deli’s iconic neon sign was lit.
“I think they somehow respected that,” he said. “At that time we were feeding the whole city. We had people come in to buy a quart of milk because none of the grocery stores were open.”
But on Saturday, eventually, Canter’s did close. The police shut the restaurant down at 7:30 p.m., a half hour before a citywide curfew went into effect; it had planned to keep the dining room open until midnight. Canter said his 30 or so employees were detained for an hour before police let them leave.
Many were concerned about being arrested for violating curfew on the way home, so Canter typed up letters using the deli’s stationery explaining they were essential workers.
“The cops told us, ‘If anyone gives you trouble, tell them you work at Canter’s,’” he said.
Police gather Saturday night the Fairfax District, with Canter’s Deli in the background.
(Kent Nishimura / Los Angeles Times)
At 9:30 p.m., the lights were turned off and the doors locked. Canter offered the day’s leftover soup to police gathered outside, which was not taken up.
Canter, for his part, was exhausted. He’d worked until 3 a.m. the night before preparing for table service after L.A. County’s surprise announcement on Friday that dine-in service could resume.
“We were expecting dining to be closed until July. It was shocking. I was scrambling to find enough individual condiments.”
In hindsight, he said, it was not a great day to reopen.
But on Sunday morning, the doors unlocked once more and diners started to trickle in. A handful of people cleaned debris off the streets, and foot traffic started to pick up on Fairfax. A military Humvee carrying National Guard troops rolled past.
Canter had once more hoped to keep the dining room open until midnight, a plan that was quickly dashed when the city announced a 8 p.m. curfew.
But there’s always tomorrow, he said. Canter’s will be open tomorrow.

(Bloomberg) -- A majority of African-American Democratic voters support former Vice President Joe Biden according to a Quinnipiac University poll published Tuesday. The survey found that found Biden was supported by 51% of black voters. Senator Bernie Sanders had 13% and Senator Elizabeth Warren had 12%. Michael Bloomberg received 4%, while Pete Buttigieg, Senator Amy Klobuchar, Tom Steyer and Andrew Yang all received 2%. No other candidate obtained more than 1%. Bloomberg is the founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, the parent company of Bloomberg News.Biden has long been favored among African-American voters. In South Carolina, which has a majority black Democratic electorate, Biden had 33% support of all voters, followed by Warren with 13% and Sanders with 11% in a November Quinnipiac poll of the state.Among all Democratic and Democratic-leaning voters, Biden led with 29% followed by Sanders with 17%, Warren with 15%, Buttigieg with 9%, Bloomberg with 5% and Yang with 4%. Klobuchar was supported by 3% of voters and Tulsi Gabbard 2%, all other candidates received 1% or less. The poll conducted Dec. 4-9 had a margin of error of 3.8 percentage points.Andrew Yang Qualifies for Los Angeles Debate (4:27 p.m.)Entrepreneur Andrew Yang on Tuesday became the seventh candidate to qualify for the Democratic debate in Los Angeles on Dec. 19.Yang will join Joe Biden, Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders, Pete Buttigieg, Amy Klobuchar and Tom Steyer. Tulsi Gabbard has met the donor threshold but lacks one national or state poll to qualify. She said Tuesday she would skip the debate even if she qualifies.Yang made the cut thanks to a 4% score in a Quinnipiac University national poll released Tuesday. To qualify for the sixth Democratic debate, candidates must receive 4% in four national polls approved by the Democratic National Committee or 6% in two polls from early voting states and have received donations from 200,000 individuals. Candidates have until Thursday night to qualify. The presence on stage of Yang, who is Asian-American, means the debate will no longer have an all white slate of candidates. Cory Booker, who is African American, and Julian Castro, who is Hispanic, have both met the donor threshold but haven’t met the polling criteria, have complained about the lack of diversity among candidates on the stage. -- Emma KineryBloomberg’s Ad Spending Climbs to $100 Million (3:41 p.m.)Michael Bloomberg has spent $100 million on television and digital ads since launching his presidential campaign on Nov. 24.The former New York City mayor has bought more political commercials than the four top-polling candidates combined. Joe Biden, Pete Buttigieg, Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren have collectively spent $60.3 million on advertising. The billionaire Tom Steyer is the second biggest spender at $66 million. President Donald Trump, who doesn’t face a serious primary opponent, has spent about $34 million so far.Bloomberg’s latest television ad buy, which totals $36.1 million, is for a 13-day period ending Dec. 22, according to data from Advertising Analytics. He set a record in buying $33 million worth spots to air in a single week, eclipsing the previous mark of $24.9 million that former President Barack Obama’s campaign set in the last week of the 2012 campaign.Bloomberg is running ads nationally and in 100 local markets across more than 30 states and the District of Columbia, with the most spending so far in the Los Angeles, New York City and Houston markets, data show. He’s trying the untested strategy of skipping the first four voting states and focusing on California, Texas and the other delegate-rich states that vote in March.Bloomberg is the founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, the parent company of Bloomberg News. -- Bill AllisonGabbard to Sit Out Debate Even If She Qualifies (11:46 a.m.)Tulsi Gabbard, who is one poll short of qualifying for the Dec. 19 Democratic debate, said she’ll skip it even if she makes the cut at 11:59 p.m. on Thursday.“For a number of reasons, I have decided not to attend the December 19th ‘debate’ — regardless of whether or not there are qualifying polls,” the Hawaii congresswoman tweeted late Monday. “I instead choose to spend that precious time directly meeting with and hearing from the people of New Hampshire and South Carolina.”Gabbard also threatened to boycott a debate in October, accusing the Democratic National Committee of “rigging” the primaries, but showed up anyway. Two other candidates who haven’t qualified have also complained. Senator Cory Booker slammed the rules for allowing “elites” and “money” to decide who gets on stage, while former HUD Secretary Julián Castro argued the party shouldn’t raise the threshold this close to the Iowa caucuses.Senator Kirsten Gillibrand ended her campaign after failing to qualify for the September debate, saying that “being able to have a voice on the debate stage” is “really important” but declined to criticize the rules. -- Ryan Teague BeckwithTrump’s Support Mostly Unmoved by Impeachment (11:00 AM)The impeachment proceedings against President Donald Trump haven’t significantly changed the number of voters who think he should be re-elected, a Monmouth University poll released Tuesday shows. The poll, conducted from Dec. 4-8, found that 43% of registered voters support Trump’s re-election, while 54% want someone else in the White House. Those numbers were essentially unchanged from a survey in November, when 42% backed re-election and 55% wanted a new president, according to the poll.In the 2020 race, the poll showed Joe Biden leading the field at 26% support among Democrats or those who lean Democratic, followed by Bernie Sanders at 21%, Elizabeth Warren at 17% and Pete Buttigieg at 8%. Michael Bloomberg, who announced his candidacy Nov. 24, came next at 5%, ahead of Amy Klobuchar, Cory Booker and others in the race. But Bloomberg had an unfavorable rating of 54% among all registered voters compared with 26% favorable. Democrats and Democratic-leaning voters were split in their views of the former New York mayor at 40% favorable and 39% unfavorable, with a majority negative rating among Republicans and independents, the poll found.Bloomberg is the founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, the parent company of Bloomberg News. The poll of 838 registered voters had a margin of error of plus or minus 3.4 percentage points. -- Mark NiquetteWarren Offers ‘Blue New Deal’ for Oceans (9:00 AM)Elizabeth Warren on Tuesday rolled out her environmental policy for oceans on Tuesday, proposing to fast-track offshore renewable energy permits and produce all offshore wind energy with U.S. infrastructure. She said she would eliminate aesthetic impacts as a justification to block wind energy permits, calling climate change “too urgent to let the ultra-wealthy complain about wind turbines getting in the way of their ocean views.” Warren’s plan calls for long-term extensions of the Production Tax Credit and Investment Tax Credit for renewable energy. The Democratic candidate, who’s polling in the top three of the presidential field, calls it a “Blue New Deal.” Her plan uses the resources of the federal government to limit activity that would negatively impact oceans and fisheries, while calling for the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration to simplify the process for fishermen to sell their seafood directly to American consumers. -- Sahil KapurBloomberg Says Trump Is a Climate Change Denier (6:02 a.m.)Michael Bloomberg called President Donald Trump a climate change denier and pledged, as president, to harness investment in climate change solutions.Speaking at the COP25 global climate summit in Madrid on Tuesday, Bloomberg criticized Trump’s decision to abandon the Paris accord and said the next U.S. president must stop subsidizing fossil fuel-producing companies and instead invest in clean energy.“I do want the world to know that Americans continue to work on climate change, even with a climate denier in the White House,” he said.Bloomberg, who, like his rivals for the 2020 Democratic nomination, has said he’d rejoin the Paris pact as president, stressed the importance of promoting investment in green technology. “The capital is out there, we just need to unlock the capital,” he said.Later Tuesday, Bloomberg and actor Harrison Ford will present a report analyzing progress made by cities, states and businesses in tackling climate change, a topic that’s the focus of Bloomberg’s campaign this week.Bloomberg, the founder and majority owner of Bloomberg LP, the parent company of Bloomberg News, has committed $500 million to launch Beyond Carbon, a campaign aimed at closing the remaining coal-powered plants in the U.S. by 2030 and slowing the construction of new gas plants. -- Charlie DevereuxCOMING UPSanders and Biden are scheduled to take part in town hall meetings hosted by Unite Here Culinary Workers Union in Las Vegas Tuesday and Wednesday. At least a half-dozen Democratic presidential candidates hold the final debate of 2019 in Los Angeles on Dec. 19.(Michael Bloomberg is also seeking the Democratic presidential nomination. Stray Kids Follow Their Own Path
![Tumblr media](https://64.media.tumblr.com/8fef8316ddcea528a1ae83c6e1ab3451/a52a707277034a88-f9/s540x810/978a6c14caf53a4e5acd4dd40c8e4cbaf3b88ed2.jpg)
LOS ANGELES, Feb. 18 (UPI) -- As K-pop has evolved over the years, it has become more common to see groups take reign of their discographies by crafting their own sound and stories -- and thus their identities as performers.
One such group that's doing that is JYP Entertainment's newest male ensemble, Stray Kids, which penned most of their tracks before an official debut two years ago.
"To be a part of those groups that produce, that make music, is a really big honor," the group's leader, Bang Chan, said on a phone call with UPI just before the San Jose, Calif., stop on their 2020 District 9: Unlock World Tour.
"But the reason we think it's important for us to make our own music genuinely and perform it for our fans is we're the ones who are doing it. We think that [with] everything we do, we put our hearts into it, so that's why it's really important for us to be doing our own music."
Having debuted through a reality program that saw them fight to come out as a nine-piece group, Stray Kids have always highlighted their producing chops. And with one month short of their second debut anniversary, Bang Chan, Lee Know, Changbin, Hyunjin, Han, Felix, Seungmin, and I.N. -- now an octet following Woojin's withdrawal due to personal reasons last year -- have two three-part series albums, a mixtape, and a few collaboration projects under their belt already, predominantly written, produced, and arranged by the members themselves.
Bang Chan called having this freedom to create freeing. "Cause if we want to write something, put a message into a song, we can freely do that," the Aussie added.
Known as 3RACHA, the production unit within Stray Kids composed of Changbin, Han and Bang Chan created the group's identity to be outsiders banding together to carve their own way forward.
Their songs often touch on topics like identity, mental health and breaking rules that restrict the youths. They've also created a pretty representative sonic identity by now, being known for big, heavy bass EDM bangers, which in an oversaturated, highly competitive market like K-pop, is important to do if you want to stay afloat.
"We feel like the energy of EDM and the energy of our performances come together for a really good synergy, so it's a good match [for us]," Changbin said via a translator, adding that the members are casual fans of EDM.
Bang Chan said, "When we're making music, sometimes we have little sessions where we just go on YouTube and search Tomorrowland or UMF [Ultra Music Festival] and we're thinking, 'Wow! We would love to perform there and have fun.'"
Their latest Korean release, "Levanter," threw Stays -- their fans -- a curveball. Opting for a more melodic route, "Levanter" took Stray Kids in a more experimental direction.
"The songs that we've done so far, for example, 'Miroh,' 'Side Effects,' 'Double Knot,' have been very strong and energetic, so why not this time make a song that's very calm, and actually very nice to listen to? So we decided to go with 'Levanter' and focus on the vocals there," fellow Aussie member Felix said while explaining the tonal shift.
Another surprise for fans was the release of the English versions of their singles "Levanter" and "Double Knot." Being the lead lyricist, Bang Chan took on the task of interpreting the songs into English without compromising their original essence.
"It was actually kinda hard to translate it all because I didn't want to mess up the Korean lyrics, and I didn't want to mess up the flow, either," he said. "But luckily, they recorded really well. They killed it, and I'm really, really thankful to them."
Bang Chan said the music video for "Levanter" was an accurate representation of where they are as a group.
"2019 was a really big year for us. It was like a roller coaster ride; it had a lot of ups and downs. We had a lot of things happen to us, as well," he said.
On their "STEP OUT 2020" video released earlier in the year, the group announced a series of future projects, including a world tour, which they're currently on, and their first full-length album.
"I don't want to spoil too much. We do have something big coming up and we are still preparing for it really hard," Bang Chan said. "It's gonna show a different side of Stray Kids, like we always have before, but this one's gonna be spectacular and more fantastic."

Stray Kids are coming back with even stronger charms.
At 12AM of the 2nd, the music video teaser for their new track ‘Double Knot’ was released through Stray Kids’ official SNS channel.
The nine members wander the streets of Los Angeles with steps filled with vigor, taking charge of one’s attention with their first entrance alone.
The strong beat inserted in the video mixes with a powerful performance to maximize Stray Kids’ rough charm.
The ‘double knot’ choreo that visualizes the song name and the members’ gestures full of posse leave an impact.
Key, signpost, etc., objects related to the 'Cle' album series raise expectations as to the new track’s concept.
New track ‘Double Knot’, to be released on the coming 9th, shares the same name with a song the group’s internal producing group 3RACHA released in 2017, gathering the attention of fans.
While the song name is the same, it is an entirely different song that contains Stray Kids’ deepened musicality and charm.
Meanwhile, with the release of the digital single ‘Double Knot’ on October 9th, Stray Kids’ active promotions will unfurl.
They will open their first solo concert ‘District 9 : Unlock’ on 11/23~11/24 and meet their fans.
Also, besides the two projects revealed to be released, ‘Astronaut’ on 11/9 and ‘Cle : LEVANTER’ on 11/25, there are still contents that are a part of the 2019 large scale project whose details have yet to be opened.
With these various promotions, Stray Kids are planning to heat up the second half of this year. Source: Korea Business TV Translation: Candace @ FY!SKZ ; take out with full credit

santa clarita shooting what we know about the saugus high school suspected gunman victims Santa Clarita shooting: What we know about the Saugus High School suspected gunman, victims A Southern California high school will remain closed Friday as authorities continue their investigation after a 16-year-old student fatally shot two classmates and wounded three others. The suspect shot himself in the head with his last bullet during the 16-second attack on Thursday morning, said Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva, and was in "grave" condition, according to law enforcement officials. Students who recently filmed an active shooting training video said they couldn't believe violence struck at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, home to Six Flags Magic Mountain and 30 miles northwest of downtown Los Angeles. The incident was the 30th shooting attack at a school this year, according to the gun safety group Everytown. Here's what we know so far: What happened at Saugus High School? A gunman pulled a weapon out of his backpack around 7:30 a.m. local time and opened fire at the school, which has a student population of about 2,500 in grades 9-12. He shot five students in the quad area with a 45-caliber semi-automatic handgun before shooting himself, said Capt. Kent Wegener of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Office. Active shooter video to real life:Santa Clarita students took shelter in fear two months after making a video Saugus and all other schools in the district went on lockdown as police swarmed the area. Once students were allowed to reunite with their parents, families were seen embracing and crying. Who is the suspect? Officials described the suspect as an Asian male student at the school whose 16th birthday was Thursday. Neighbors and classmates described the boy as pleasant but noted that he was changed by the death of his father two years ago. Classmates have identified the boy to USA TODAY, although law enforcement has yet to name him. The suspect was a quiet, normal student, said Brooke Risley, a 16-year-old junior. He ran cross country and was a Boy Scout. “He doesn’t seem like the kind of kid to do this,” Risley said. Though the teen was sometimes a little sad, next-door neighbor Jared Axen said he didn't come off as depressed. His father died from a heart attack in December 2017, according to an obituary. Although his father had owned guns, Axen, 33, said he didn’t think the boy viewed them in an unhealthy way. Who are the victims? They're all students. A 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy died at a local hospital. Wegener said the three injured victims are two girls, 14 and 15, and a 14-year-old boy. None of the victims have been identified by law enforcement. Two of the injured are in good condition and the third is in fair condition, according to officials at Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital and Providence Holy Cross Medical Center. Other than attending the same school, Wegener said law enforcement officials have not found a relationship between the shooter and the victims. How did the suspect get a gun? Law enforcement officials have not shared any information about how the suspected shooter obtained the gun used in Thursday's assault. The 16-year-old couldn't have legally bought it himself: In California, licensed dealers cannot sell a firearm to anyone under age 2 "We disabled this account for violating our policies," an Instagram spokesperson confirmed to USA TODAY via email. "We can confirm it did not belong to the shooter." Investigators were working Thursday night to obtain a search warrant to learn about the owner of the Instagram account, Wegener told BuzzFeed News. School shootings:There have already been at least 30 resulting in death or injury in 2019 Wegener said his department looked into recent threats against Saugus High and identified two, both of which were investigated and deemed to be unrelated to Thursday's shooting. Authorities have not determined a motive but don't believe he was acting on any ideology. What safety measures were in place? The school district website says a resource officer is assigned to every campus, and the schools have fencing and supervisors monitoring who goes in and out. The Saugus High campus is fenced and has a dozen security cameras but no metal detectors. "The gates to the campuses are locked during instructional time and typically only unlocked when students are leaving campus for lunch or leaving school at the end of the day. Visitors are directed to the office to check-in.'' Latest US news, breaking news and current affairs coverage from Hind Rose.
