COSPLAYERS: THE REAL HEROES OF 2016 HELPED US LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
COSPLAYERS: THE REAL HEROES OF 2016 HELPED US LOOK ON THE BRIGHT SIDE
According to our Twitter feed, 2016 may go down as the least likable 12 months of any decade (apologies to The Fall of Rome and The Great Depression). It’s times like these that we need heroes — the colorful beacons of hope, truth, and justice — to brighten our bleak perspective, and Blake Faucette over at Distractotron managed to find them throughout the year. We’re talking about cosplayers, of…

Friday Night!  Three day weekend!  Nova Pro 100!   ....but what do you do when your goodtime funtime dominant is tired?  Apparently whatever they want.  This involved driving to dinner.  In this case, it also involved another setting on the Nova Pro 100 that we didn't try before.
Since we're still trying out a lot of things, and I never stop asking people, we're still finding out what this feels like for us and what we can do with it.  We're not doing much specific other than going down and it feels great.   @mindmadeofmagicandmusic made a great post about what to expect from hypnosis, and I can say that I've experienced quite a range of things since @Dommestic and I started this whole thing.   We haven't done a lot of memory play, but sometimes memories fail to take root courtesy of the Distractotron 2000.   After a few minutes, I was definitely just fine to tune out.
Friday's test run was a 22-minute "meditate" setting o the Nova Pro 100 which, as always, had her saying something to me.  What was it?  I don't know.  It's not completely blank and mindless, because there was focus and my brain was distracting me with all sorts of things while @Dommestic went on about relaxing, listening, and something about working toward even deeper states.  I can't remember much of it - the lights I remember.  The sounds I don't.   Her words, only a few.  I had to ask some of what we did after because I had a hold time remembering, as I was pretty blissed out.  You can try to think, but after a while you can’t really control it.  Your brain does what it wants, or what it’s told, and I’m not sure which was happening.   I hope to find out.
I find it funny that if it goes well, I can say it was a forgettable experience.  My brain was darting around a bit, so from moment to moment I might be aware of Dommestic's voice or the lights, or the beeps, or what I can best describe as my mind channel-surfing on me.  I have to wonder if the lights are just nudging me other places, or if it was something she said because I went from being frustrated about some thing in the kitchen to being spaced out to being still kind of blissed out after she counted me up.   She kept commenting on how I looked like I might go under again at any minute.
Aftercare involved me laying down while trying to scoop up enough thoughts into a bucket so I could go about the rest of the night.  As far as I know she didn't suggest much of anything to me other than to relax and go along with the induction.  This was night a light trance, and I'm still coasting on whatever low-level background euphoria the experience poured into me.
I generally tend to wake up with a strong urge to make her happy, which takes various forms, and I hope I succeeded.  It's definitely fun and addictive, coming back to life ready to do pretty much anything to experience something like that again.  It definitely wasn’t a blackout experience, but it was a lot like going through some sort of dream version of what I expected hypnosis to be like.  I was listening, and not.   I was aware of what she was saying, but didn’t feel like I needed to be completely aware of what or why.  I guess it’s probably good she hasn’t internalized all of those stories on the MCStories.com site to exploit the subject.

Brighten your day with Distractotron's Katsucon '17 cosplay videos
Katsucon '17 may be over, but that isn't stopping people from reminiscing the event's good times. One method is to capture some of the convention's wonderful moments on film, which is what the gang at DistractotronChannel did with their video of their favorite cosplay from the con.
With Blake Faucette of Beatdownboogie behind the camera, we got to see each cosplayer striking a glorious pose that goes well with their costume. Also, it was a bit of a surprise to see more Monster Hunter cosplayers as we got to see a Female Furious Rajang Armor Set, among other signature designs. Then we had a Death Note trio and Lady Killer Queen at the scene; thus covering some of the anime cosplays from the con.
As we get ready for the convention season soon, it'll be a treat to see what type of cosplays that DistractotronChannel will capture next. On that note, which Katsucon '17 cosplays were your favorite?
