WHY pick the one tied to pregnancy#the ONE ASPECT that you decided was shared between both ''male'' and ''female'' skeletons#it's also like. objectively an argument that is leveraged to hurt and deny trans people irl so it was just. unbelievably uncomfortable#this is what we mean with mpreg and transphobia btw#not that the concept is inherently transphobic or hurtful to trans people#but that that kind of alternative biological worldbuilding implies an alternative social conception of gender role for the characters#that a lot of authors just. straight up miss. because their view of the world is still very cis/perisexist#BUT!!!!!!!!!!#it was still over all a very good fic. I'd rec it to pll not into that for the initial 2 chapters alone

the thing about reading wlw historical romance is the men in it are always so over the top evil but also they were just kinda like that weren’t they

Huh. I just noticed Big Mom uses “ore” as her pronoun.
As something typically used by Japanese men, and often used as a means to portray ‘manliness’ (though even the chillest dudes like Kashima from Gakuen Babysitter use it), I suppose this is a way to show her strength, regardless of being a woman.
Idk if there were other women in the One Piece world that used it before now (I know there’s meant to be a potentially trans/gnc character in Wano who uses either ore or boku but not up to it yet so idk?)
Historically speaking (OP-wise), you mostly get the okama using the typically feminine speech honorifics/patterns, and there will be the occasional male who will use the neutral watashi (tho I feel like I’ve seen this more in other anime), and obviously you’ve got all the other pronouns like batashi, washi etc. not so much a female using masculine pronouns.
but the use of ore really makes sense for Big Mom’s character, tho given her presentation and general manner of speaking (when she’s not a rage beast), she gives off atashi/-kashira vibes (like Nami).
#other people have probs pointed this out but it’s the first time I’ve noticed#Oda usually distinguishes his characters in other ways#the pronouns don’t usually change all that often from the typical fare#watashi ore boku washi etc#only when it’s someone like Ivankov who is firmly in that gender fluid space#and other similar characters who float in that space#does the pronoun change#usually it’s more like suffixes and speech tics and the ever increasing canon of strange laughs#manga#anime#one piece#whole cake island#big mam#big mom
