I (finally) finished Season one during my 7 hour long train ride, and since nobody asked, here's a new summary.
The Magnus Archives but I've finished season one (and that didn't help with the confusion)
There's Jon. He's an Archivist, and he got that anxiety rizz™
He also sounds like his life would crumbie in pieces if he doesn't have a seventh cup of coffee before the sun rises.
I can relate.
One of the causes of his anxiety seems to be his least favourite colleague, Martin.
Martin is described as unqualified, suspected to be a ghost and sent into various deadly situations.
He also sleeps in Jalapeño's bed.
I FUCKING LOVE GERARD KEAY
Everyone works in a modern remake of the Library of Alexandria, which would be very cool if there weren't a lot of murderous creatures.
(there are a lot of murderous creatures)
And worms. Would we still love them if they were human? Probably not.
Everything is ruled by a guy named Elias Bouchard. Everyone told me that he's nice.
In what world is a guy named fucking Bouchard nice?
Jane Prentiss is spreading the worm agenda.
SHE DESERVED MORE THAN THAT HELP IS THERE A CHARITY WHERE I CAN GIVE HER A VIRTUAL HUG???
Michael the eldritch horror is very lovely.
OH AND I DIDN'T TELL YOU BUT JALAPEÑO USES THE TAPE RECORDER CAUSE THE STATEMENTS DON'T WORK ON COMPUTER. THERE'S A REASON BEHIND ALL THAT.
That also means that there are statements that can be recorded on the computer and that we therefore don't see. I want to know what they're about.
#JusticeForSasha2k24
I am still lost in the English names.
Gerard Keay still burns books.
But that's ok, cause they're evil books from BLOODY JÜRGEN LEITNER I HATE JÜRGEN LEITNER DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THIS USELESS PIECE OF SHITTY OLD PARCHMENT WHEN HE WAS BORN HIS MOTHER CRIED AND SHOULD HAVE STRANGLED HIM I WISH HE GOES TO HELL ALTHOUGH NO HE WOULD RUIN THE GAY PARTY HAPPENING THERE I WISH HE DISAPPEARED IN THE COFFIN WE SEE AT THE BEGINNING AND WENT ON A CRUISE IN PETER LUKAS' BOAT GOD I HAVE SO MANY THINGS TO SAY ABOUT THIS LITERARY DISHONOUR. Fuck you, Leitner.
Hmm, yeah. Sorry. Where was I?
Season one's over, still no trace of the queer rep I was teased with.
Although, that may be a good thing, given the fact that as soon as a gay appears, they get killed/ replaced/ vanished by by some antique object.
Does that mean antique objects are homophobes?
Although these antiques come from Salesa's shop. Perhaps Salesa's the real straight supremacist here.
Selling dangerous items seems like a rentable activity tho. I should do the same.
Starting from now. Does anyone want a totally-not-illegal coffin? Antique dolls? You get your money back if they kill you.
So...uh...yeah. Good show. Amazing sound effects. Watch it. Wahoo.

here’s a detailed description of each of the 14 fears from the magnus archives, most of the descriptions are straight from gerry keay (my beloved) in episode 111 (so ofc spoilers for up to ep 111 of tma) ALSO ALSO ALSO the last one has spoilers for up to ep 134
the eye
the ceaseless watcher, fear of being watched, being followed, deepest secrets exposed, needing to know even if the discovery might destroy you, feeling that something somewhere is letting you suffer just so it can watch
the vast
agoraphobia, fear of falling, fear of deep water, of our own insignificance before the vast universe
the lonely
isolation, the fear that you’re just alone, maybe there’s no one else there at all and maybe you just can’t connect
the desolation
burning, the lightless flame, fear of pain and loss, fear of unthinking and cruel destruction
the corruption
disease, infection, disgust, rot, decay, infection, the feeling of your skin crawling or itching, being touched by something that might burrow in you, swarming and hollowing you out, leaving you full of holes
the flesh
this fear is mainly from animals, animalistic fear of the slaughter house, gets weird in humans, gore, the nagging feeling that deep down we’re all just electrified meat squeezing air at each other, body horror, new fear, began when labeled by smirk
the stranger
the fear of the unknown, the uncanny, the creeping sense that something isn’t right, the guy you saw that might be following you and might mean you harm
the dark
old and deep fear, what might be in the dark that you can’t see
the buried
opposite of the vast, small spaces, claustrophobia, crushing, can’t breath, you’re at the center of everything and it all pushes down on you, where the vast is loosing yourself in too much space, the buried is being trapped with out enough
the spiral
fear of madness, worry that your world isn’t right, that your mind is lying to you
the slaughter
war, not cruel like the desolation, or unstoppable like the end, just pure violence, not targeted or premeditated, you don’t know when or why, sometimes frenzied, sometimes calm, just violence for the sake of violence
the end
clean cut and simply fear of death, never tried to set itself up for a ritual because it would because that would mean a world with no people and no death, it’s knows it’s going to get everything eventually so why bother
the hunt
animalistic/ derived from animals like the flesh but it’s older, jon brought up that hunting and killing each other is just the way they work and it’s natural, but gerry reminded him that so is death
the web
spiders, control, your will not being your own, manipulation, being puppeted, the worry you’re caught in a trap you can’t see, never had followers set them up for a ritual
SPOILERS UP TO MAG 134 —>
the extinction: the terrible change, the future with out us, different from the end because it’s active, it’s seeks to create a lightless world that none of the other powers ever would, some think it would replace people with something new that can then fear annihilation in turn

Ocelli’s TMAlev Masterpost
Buckle in, dolls, it’s about to be a long one. Two disclaimers before we hop into this! If you have not read my Multi-Avatar System, the Eye’s Great Chain of Being, and Spiders for the Web Avatars, pause your reading of this and read those first! Those will be referenced heavily and are crucial to your understanding of how the boys function in this particular AU. Additionally, if you are not finished with TMA or through Intermezzo in Malevolent, this will be EXTREMELY SPOILER HEAVY for you. Proceed with caution <3 Arthur Lester
Avatar Alignment: The Eye – Complete/Infinite/Record AKA a “Triple” – THE AMBASSADOR Marked: By literally all of them, have you listened to the podcast?? /j Explanation: Ok, ok. I have gone round and round with people about the whole ‘Eye’ thing in relation to Arthur in the past but lemme just reiterate again here. The thing that cut Melanie off from The Eye in TMA was the complete destruction of her eyes. They were entirely gouged out. Arthur’s eyes are still entirely functional, but he is prevented from seeing due to John’s interference. Therefore, Arthur is still fully capable of falling to The Eye and I believe he does. I’ve seen a lot of Dark!Arthur due to the fact that he’s blind and it’s definitely a really cool take! I just don’t see him necessarily feeding in the way that the Dark reads. Now! Could there be an argument made for Cooperative Eye/Dark!Arthur flavored in the way of trying to find pull answers from things in “the dark”? Hidden discoveries and information that doesn’t want to be pulled from? Absolutely. Additionally, I do also really like Web!Arthur. I feel like that fits him as well with the amount of subtle manipulation that he does; however, I flavor this more as John’s influences on Arthur which bleed into how Arthur’s Eye feeding functions (and vice versa).  So, how exactly does Arthur’s Eye things work? First and foremost, I believe that when Arthur falls to The Eye, his ability to compel skyrockets. There are a lot of little moments peppered throughout the podcast but especially in season four where Arthur has these really compulsion flavored moments that have a sort of Web twist to them from John. Secondly, Arthur now has the ability to see through other people’s eyes in the absence of John from his mind (yes, John has his own body in this). Arthur is still blind himself but is able to see through others’ eyes if they are within his sightline, temporarily imposing his blindness on them while he navigates in a third person view. Oh, how the tables turn!  Lastly, Arthur is seated at one of the top links of the chain as THE AMBASSADOR settled below THE ARCHIVIST (Jonathan Sims) and above THE BROADCAST (Cecil Gershwin Palmer). Why the title? Well, he’s the Eye’s little representative from another universe! The main one at least and is marked by enough to hold special status. Additionally, Arthur’s placement on the chain means that he is graced with a Pupil, a low level Eye avatar that holds its avatarhood mainly for servitude. Arthur is a special little guy and gets TWO! Who are those two, you might ask? No other than Noel and Oscar. I’ll get into their specifics under their names but their fall to The Eye was entirely Arthur’s fault and was their fall to The Web being entirely John’s fault. I don’t have the specifics of this yet but the two are now bonded to Arthur and John for better or for worse. Arthur is able to tap into the sight of one of each of their eyes at any time, no matter the distance (two Pupils for two different eyes? Eh? EH? I think I’m clever sometimes-). This also means that Arthur can tap into the benefits when either one of them are feeding using The Eye and he can also help them do so as well.
John Doe  Avatar Alignment: The Web  Marked: The Spiral + The End (KiY), The Dark + The Vast (The Dark World), The Eye (Arthur)  Explanation: I think it’s generally agreed upon that John is Web. However, if you see other relations with John, please send them! I love seeing different interpretations! John’s relation to the Web is fairly self-explanatory in the context of Malevolent. He is slowly taking over parts of his host’s body as well as being his guide throughout… well, everything. He quite literally controls Arthur’s sight. However, I think it’s important to add that John seems to fear the loss of control in return. Generally, just think back to season four and his anger (out of fear) of feeling like a passenger while Arthur got help from outside sources. John is incredibly manipulative, and his lies and string pulling are clear in his nudges to get Arthur to the Grey Stone. On the brighter side of things, John Doe is also resistive towards a “fate” so to speak. His separation from the King in Yellow had led him to becoming more human, so much so that The King couldn’t get him to fit back anymore. Generally, Web Avatars don’t have others that are tied to them like Eye Avatars do but John is a bit of special case. Like Arthur, Noel and Oscar are bound to John through their falls to The Web being entirely John’s fault. I need to think out what this bond to John specifically does (like stated above for Arthur) but for now know that John has those two under his umbrella as well.  Let’s talk about some marks now! The most obvious of these the The Eye through his ties to Arthur. I do think that Arthur’s Eye alignment has also influenced the way that John connects to The Web. This is certainly clear in how John uses it while still inside Arthur. Admittedly, I need to do a bit more work on my end about how he feeds in his own body. John also is marked by The Spiral and The End from the King in Yellow! Why? Well, the Spiral is all about madness and not being able to trust your own mind and thoughts. That is exactly what the King in Yellow does! The End may not be as clear at least in Malevolent. However, there is a lovely video by the Tale Foundry that talks about The King in Yellow as a metaphorical corpse of god and heaven which I just had to include in one form or another. John is also marked by The End in part of the Dark World as is where all of the dead things from other worlds are discarded. John is also marked by the Dark and the Vast by the Dark World. The Dark is due to…well…I mean it’s in the name- The Vast is due to the fact that if this Dark World contains the dead and forgotten things from other worlds or possibly dead worlds themselves, then the plane has got to be massive. Most likely further than the eye can see.
Father Oscar Pilon-Garcia
Avatar Alignment: Dominant- The Corruption, Co-Passive- The Web/The Eye - Pupil – THE SAINT
Marked: The Slaughter (Father McKenna)
Explanation: Oh, Oscar… let’s get into it. Firstly, why is Oscar’s dominant fear The Corruption? It would have been the only fear that he fell to if it weren’t for Arthur and John <3. Why? I will direct your attention to Part 37 “The Farm” in which Oscar is 100% most assuredly about to be taken over by some parasitic worm if his arm wasn’t severed. This gets pulled on heavily by the other Fears when Oscar feeds, but we’ll get into that in a sec.
I’ve established before that Oscar’s fall to The Eye and The Web were the fault of Arthur and John. He was NOT supposed to originally fall to those Fears, if any. But he did as his fall was able to pull on just enough inclination in those areas. Oscar is intelligent! We’ve seen this in how he deduced McKenna’s true intentions when he was younger and his investigative assistance to Arthur and John during everything with Scratch. So, there are some Eye inclinations to be pulled on. Now, Oscar is also fairly Web flavored. In general, we’ve seen that The Web loves to prey on religion and I think she has a particular drive towards priests(*motions to Father Edwin Burroughs in TMA* *motions to Father John Ward in Faith: The Unholy Trinity*). We’ll discuss the positives of this first. Like John, Oscar really had a particular fate weighed out for him that he rejected. He was 100% set up to be the violent, unwanted child to turn away from faith the moment he got out of the orphanage and on his own. However, he didn’t. He wasn’t adopted (I suppose due to the violence?) but went through process of holy orders and ordination in order to do his small part in balancing out the evil people that plague the magisterium and to specifically help others through service. Now, to the bad. Oscar truly, truly felt as though his calling and his purpose was Arthur. He gave up everything for Arthur. Finally, it felt like he could see the pieces fall into place as though all of the everything he went through had a direction. He was strung along and then that string was cut. Very abruptly with very little explanation. He doesn’t know the context for that abandonment but what he does know is the fact that he finally felt like his life meant something substantial and that was discarded. He was used. A pawn. A puppet. (Are we crying yet?).
I debated on a few options for Oscar’s title before settling on THE SAINT as it separates it enough from the titles of Priest or Father but brings in a comparison of Saints supposed to being these “exemplars of godliness” and the Fears manipulating Oscar’s ways of being a faithful servant to the people into feeding opportunities.
Speaking of which, how does Oscar feed with all this mess? Firstly, Oscar absolutely abhors feeding. This poor babe will attempt to starve himself in order to spare someone else the trouble. But he must somehow. Now, as a Catholic, I think the idea of Confessional Booth feeding is quite appealing in this case. It’s truly perfect for him. This Sacrament is supposed to be entirely confidential: just between the confessor, the priest, and God. And the Fears entirely twist it. The Eye pries into a person’s worst acts, The Web manipulates what is normally safe situation and a person’s trust in this church authority, and The Corruption worms its way into the situation in the form of the religious ideology of Sin being a stain, a plague on the divine human soul. Oh HO! It’s awful. I love it.
Charlie Dowd Noel Finley
Avatar Alignment: Tri-Cooperative – The Spiral/The Web/The Eye – Pupil – THE INVESTIGATOR
Marked: The Buried (Prison Pits)
Explanation: I have seen SO many takes for Noel’s avatarship and they are so interesting!! Stranger!Noel, Vast!Noel, Dark!Noel! All very interesting options that I can see exactly where everyone gets these from. So, why the three I settled on?
(Y’all are going to throw me to the dogs for this)
Generally, when you see a tri-avatar, your automatic assumption is that they’re going to be a relatively high powered one due to their multiple associations. This is the exact opposite case with Noel. His three Fears are fully cooperative due to the fact that they represent his ties to three other Avatars- Arthur, John… and the King in Yellow. Noel has the sort of opposite case than Oscar did that he is very Eye inclined but much less inclined towards the Web. If you take a look at Noel’s previous occupations (i.e police, private eye, detective, and back to private eye in this au’s case) they are VERY Eye heavy. The Web mostly comes out in the trickery that we see Noel pulling off especially in the cases of his expedition in Egypt and his taking on of his best friend’s persona in order to protect himself. The Spiral is quite fun to play around with when it comes to Noel, though. Clearly, this man has gone through enough madness and mind games when it comes to the King in Yellow trying to pull information out of him about the whereabouts of John’s book. He quite literally cannot trust his own mind during his entire time in the Dreamlands. Then you have this odd dynamic after he gets out of the Dreamlands. He takes on not just the “name” of his best friend but specifically the “persona” of his best friend. Why is this distinction important? We assume that, on the surface, the King in Yellow was impersonating Charlie when he was “Adam Fry” in Part 5 “The Gift”. However, Charlie states that he is familiar with Adam Fry because he used “his best friend’s voice” in doing so. So, Adam Fry continues to be an impersonation of Noel, it’s just that, you guessed it, Charlie is also impersonating Noel. However, it’s become so ingrained in his personality over his time the Dreamlands and his two years in New York that he can’t separate the impersonation from his own personality. That’s why we don’t see him drop it at all, not even slightly, in front of Arthur and John. So, not only do you have Noel losing bits of his sanity in the Dreamlands, but you also have him losing a sense of himself outside of the Dreamlands in which he and his best friend’s personality become melded together.
As for marks, I knew that he would have an additional mark from the Prison Pits themselves aside from the overall Spiral. It’s difficult to put a specific fear to it when I don’t have detailed referenced, but I do believe the confinement of it all, the small cells, and the earthy aesthetic to them lends itself to The Buried.
Why the title of THE INVESTIGATOR. I’m sure you may be thinking, “Um, Ocelli. It’s ‘Detective’ Noel. It should be Detective” and I hear you. However, remember we have now placed the boys in the TMA universe in which I do wholeheartedly believe in the “Basira would’ve been an Eye Avatar if things went slightly differently.” Elias consistently calls her “Detective” and Eye Avatars generally call others by their title if formalities haven’t been dropped. So, unfortunately, that title is taken! Additionally, I think that Investigator covers more of Noel’s jobs as well! Just be grateful that I didn’t go with the titles of Prisoner or Captive that were rolling around for a bit in the mind.
I need to flesh out a bit more of Noel’s feeding specifically, but I’ll give you the small ideas I do have! Noel’s feeding is very interrogation based. I imagine this fully enclosed room that he visually imposes on the other person. It’s just a very dark concrete room, a table, two chairs, and a swinging overhead lamp. It’s entirely in black and white like a film noir except for Noel’s two piercing glowing yellow eyes fixated directly on the person. He asks all of the questions that the other person desperately does not want to answer all while this swinging lamp passes over the table before swinging away and basking the two in darkness once more. Now, while Noel uses the Eye and the Web to feed himself, the Spiral continues to feed off Noel himself, pulling on his identity crisis and sending him into these sleepwalking visions of the Dreamlands. It twists his relationship with them, making him think that that’s where he belongs. And as a fun little treat, it messes with his language as well. In these Spiral induced states, Noel can only speak in Carcosan (is that a thing? It probably isn’t but it is now!) meaning that generally John is the only one that can get Noel back to his senses.
Dennis “The Butcher” Collins
Avatar Alignment: Cooperative-The Hunt/The Slaughter
Marked: N/A
Explanation: Yep, the Butcher is in this too because I love he <3 and this is me and my friend’s self-indulgent “they live” au! The fact that we felled them to horrible fears in the process is entirely beside the point. I feel like the Butcher is the most obvious of these when it comes to fear choices. Like John, I don’t think there’s much debate on which ones he could be. Throughout the majority of season four, he quite literally uses like calling hunting a “devotion” and the love that he has for it. Additionally, Dennis seems to enjoy not only the hunting aspect of it but the killing as well. He likes the blood. He likes the gore. He is a renown serial killer due to this. Also the clear music themes associated with The Slaughter in TMA are also present with Dennis singing as he kills and the constant song playing in his mind. This is also why I think he is a fully cooperative dual avatar because the Hunt and the Slaughter are both fully used each time that he feeds. As for feeding, I don’t think he changes much! I’m sorry his is so short but ah… yeah, that’s all I have-
Nyarlathotep Kayne
Avatar Alignment: Dominant- Slaughter, Tri-Passive- The Web/The Eye/The Spiral – THE ENTROPY KAYNE :]
Marked: N/A
Explanation: Kayne, Kayne, Kayne… Kayne is so fun to play around with. Oh my gosh. He messes with literally everything. Let’s get into it. Kayne’s dominant fear as the Slaughter is VERY clear. This man is covered in blood constantly, he killed every other version of himself, he kills other people in extremely gruesome ways and relishes in every bit of it. So, yes, Slaughter is dominant here and was the fear used to pick up the rest of the ones he has. Kayne is also very Web. He is playing chess while everyone is playing checkers. He knows exactly know to nudge his little pawns into place to get them exactly where he needs them. A master manipulator in all forms. He killed all versions of himself in order to be able to “play all the keys.” I think Kayne also has his Eye moments. Due to the fact that he can dance across the keys of the different universes, he has a lot of information. He knows what to tease out of people to get them do what he needs to. I also think this is why his inability to see the Black Stone grates against him so much. Because he needs it but he CAN’T see it. He can see all of this other stuff but not this one. thing. he. needs. Oh! How frustrating!! Kayne is also Spiral. He’s not dominantly Spiral but just listen to him, come on. Spiral drips off of his entire everything. With the amount of mental strife he’s caused to so many people and his love of chaos, Spiral is definitely there as well.
Due to the fact that Kayne is a preexisting Great Old One and a really powerful one at that, he is able to manipulate a lot of the systems the Fears have set in place for his own gain. The most egregious one is his manipulation of The Eye’s chain. Firstly, he’s gouged his title out, figuratively, to simply be his own name. No one else gets to name him, thank you <3. It’s HIS job to pass out the nicknames! Silly Eye… Additionally, with just how high Kayne is on the chain, he also gets a Pupil. Who’s his Pupil? Well, no other than our precious little English rose, Artie! “But! Ocelli! You said that Arthur is Triple! He’s high up there! He even has his own Pupils! How in the world is he a Pupil?” See, the silly thing about Kayne is that he’s forming a chain of his own using The Eye’s Great Chain of Being to bond Arthur to himself, and thus also bonding Arthur’s Pupils to himself as well. Didya notice that the Fears that Kayne is tied to is also the Fears that the other boys are too? That isn’t a mistake <3. As a fun little added bonus, Kayne also totally changed what spiders were tied to John and Arthur from The Web to the Sparklemuffin and Bunny Harvestman respectively. I highly recommend looking at pictures of those. They’re wonderful.
Thanking you for giving me your time to read this! I hope you enjoyed it! Please feel free to send in asks about it! This has been bouncing around in my mind since I began listening to Malevolent at the beginning of this year and I’m so happy to finally be able to share it with you <3

TMA stands for the Magnus Archives! It's a horror podcast! Very good characterisation, and apparently nice queer rep (although I'm still looking for that one... maybe the real queer rep was the theories we made along the way). Basically talks about a guy digging through the archives of an institute specialised in paranormal research. I recommend

TMAGP 22 Spoilers (theories and reactions)
Pre Case (Lena & Gwen):
Gwen got away! Yippee!
It's really interesting that she called [Error] the "watching figure." Definitely solidifies the Eye energy (literally lol) coming for them.
Also, Lena calls both Ink5oul and [Error] "externals," I wonder if this is what avatars are being called in this universe. Perhaps because they don't know what they are?
I love Lena's reaction! Honestly, I'm wondering about how much dangerous work she was put through by the OIAR.
So Gwen's keeping the title but not the work? I wonder if Lena will slowly provide her information Elias-style and she how she reacts...
Also, a ministerial visit is coming up. I wonder if the people visiting are more involved with the Externals.
Gwen doesn't really argue with Lena about the job. I wonder if Lena is trying to scare her away from further investigating. For now, at least, it seems to have worked.
Mrs. Kelley??? Lena is/was married???
Case:
The case is a letter from Hans Berger to Dr. Richard Caton from December 1924, with Augustus narrating. Both Berger and Dr. Caton have conducted/are conducting experiments to study the brain, more specifically - they are taking data of brain signals. Herr Schmidt is the subject of Berger's experiments, which involves adding metal coils under the scalp and recording the signals with various devices. Berger would ask questions about the self, and when Schmidt would answer, Berger and his wife/assistant, Ursula, would record the results. After the initial results were in, Berger contacted Konstantin M. Bykov about his experiments with finding and separating the "self" (I got Stranger vibes from Bykov). After Schmidt's consent, Berger continued his experiments using silver wires now, which gave similar results to the first experiment. After a Buried/Eye type dream, about a deep, dark ocean full of dark secrets with unknowable radio signals overhead (perhaps the Web is involved too?), Berger made a new device with a telegraph to translate the signals, and experimented again of Schmidt. This time, there were rhythmic noises that got faster when asked questions about the self. Berger then put these questions into the telegraph while waiting for Ursula to finish recording the results, which led to quick signals from the telegraph, that translated to something that was alone asking for help to get out (presumably the wires). Schmidt suffered a seizure and died, with the wires forcing themselves out of his head.
This case gave off a lot of Eye and Buried vibes - Berger seeking knowledge buried in a person via burying wires into Schmidt's head (Schmidt was also "imprisoned" during this experiment as he was strapped to a chair with a variety of leather straps). The discovery of the Self also read very Stranger to me.
So Augustus has only been in 3 episodes so far:
• 4 - slaughter violin requires blood - prerequisite to Grifter's Bone ? (TMA)
• 18 - talking corpse (first case with tape recorder and compelling; confirms Alice's story)
• 22 - experiments, seperating self, something wants out
I have a theory about this:
So Augustus is the most rare computer entity, with many theories (including my own) saying that he is Jonah. I wonder if his cases that he is reading are a way of communication when he gains semi-sentience. First (ep 4), a sacrifice is required, perhaps a warning about what is to come with the Institute, or perhaps it is what it is required to free him. Next (ep 18), a confirmation of the supernatural forces at play and that something from TMA came over to the OIAR universe. Even the supposed dead can talk. Now (22), he wants out. He is buried in information and battling with the self. He wants out.
Post Case (Sam and Alice):
Sam found out about Alice tinkering with his computer and is angry about it. He is right in one regard - Alice does sound hypocritical by saying the Institute stuff is crazy but then goes on saying how the computer is setting him up. However, I am on Alice' side. Like she says- she's trying to protect Sam and stop him from going insane, like Colin appears to be (he probably knows a lot about what's going on, and thus is not actually insane, but just seems to be). Alice does have ulterior motivation, however - she wanted to get close to Sam again. Maybe romanticly, maybe platonically, but she wanted to get some kind of relationship with Sam, which is why she's being so protective of him.
Although from Sam's side, it seems that her protectiveness was overbearing when they were dating. Sam views what Alice sees as protective as controlling. This might be related to their pasts:
Sam - We know his parents were pretty controlling with his schooling (especially since he was "gifted") and his career (I believe it was said that his parents pushed him down the law path), so naturally, when he has freedom, he takes advantage of it. Therefore, when Alice's protective instincts kick in, she ends up coming off as overbearing and "invading on his privacy and freedom."
Alice - We know she grew up as an older sibling to Luke, which is probably where the protective instict comes from. She (judging from their established relationship) seems to have been very protective of him for a while now and may have acted like another parent for him when they were younger. She shows she cares by basically being an older sibling, more specifically, being extremely protective. At times, she thinks she knows what is right for someone else and will push them down the path she thinks is best for them. She's trying to help, this being done without any malice whatsoever, but she can get too overprotective.
While Sam values freedom and choices, Alice values protection and keeping her loved ones safe.
Post Case (Sam & Celia):
Sam says Alice "pushes his buttons," which makes sense, as they value different things. Sam calls Alice a jealous ex, which is interesting to me. Is this all he sees her as? Not a friend, but someone who is jealous of Sam and Celia? While Alice is jealous of Sam and Celia, that doesn't seem to be her motivation. However, I understand that Sam is angry (which he has every right to be), and he probably didn't mean this as harsh as he puts it. He clearly values Alice and their friendship. I hope the two can make up.
It's really interesting that Celia associated Sam's conflict with Alice as him continuing to investigate the Institute. Perhaps it's again the freedom vs. protection values? Or just her trying to slip it into their conversation?
I appreciate Celia asking Sam if he's sure about investigating the Institute and giving him time to think or back out.
"Jonathan Sims and Martin Blackwood."
THE BOYS HAVE BEEN MENTIONED!!! WE HAVE OFFICAL MENTIONS OF THE BOYS!!! BY NAME!!!! JON AND MARTIN!!!! LETSGOOOOO!!!
Right now, I'm thinking that Celia is slowly revealing information from her universe about the Institute to Sam (possibly after fact-checking it in the OIAR universe).

My Cup of Tea contributor announcement: part 2!
We are excited to share our list of writers and cosplayers in the zine! You can also find our artists here. See below the cut for links to their socials and their answers to the question: Why do you love Martin?
Writers
milkteamoon | tumblr Ao3
I really love how contradictorily human he is! He's a little guy. He's kind of a bitch. He wants so badly to be the sensitive artist type and yet will encourage murder against those whom he perceives to have wronged him at the drop of a hat. He's incredibly kissable and should be kissed by anyone and everyone, I think, for his health.
crescenttwins | tumblr carrd
Martin is this lovely exploration of a person who is deeply affected by trauma but still ends up able to be kind at the end of it.
Morning Softness | tumblr
He’s just such a great complex character. He does his absolute best in a job he’s not at all qualified for, determined to go above and beyond so no one will complain about his work ethic, even when the demands placed on him are ridiculous or dangerous. He’s anxious but he’s also brave and stubborn. He’s jealous and bitter and petty and sarcastic. He’s kind and optimistic and gentle. He’s a poet. He’s incredibly practical, and is better at showing care to others through his actions than his words. He holds onto guilt because he’s convinced it helps him do better. He tries so hard to be needed because he thinks it’s the only way anyone would want him, and he feels like it would be manipulative of him to expect or even want anything in return. He makes an effort to care about others and help in any way he can, even though it is an effort, even when it isn’t returned.
Pine | tumblr
In "Big Picture," Martin says to Simon Fairchild "I think our experience of the universe has value. Even if it disappears forever." I think it may be the most hopeful statement in TMA (not that it has a great deal of competition!), and I thought about it a lot while season five was airing. (And I love, too, how Martin may have been a hypocrite about it, unwilling to let the universe disappear.)
Saint | tumblr Ao3
Golly gee what a question. I guess the biggest thing is I love how full of seemingly diametrically-opposed contradictions he is: his genuine sweetness and kindness vs his very serious desire to see the violent death of people he's perceived to have wronged him, his dorky poetry vs the fact that he's the kind of person to use the word "ontological" in casual conversation, his capacity for love and compassion vs his proclivity for isolation. Also he has the best voice.
Cosplayers
Shashamisen | tiktok
He hit me as the most human-like character to me. Blame it on the beautiful voice acting or the discreet complexity of how his character was written, but I started loving him for how much I related, and stayed for the cutest awkward love I've ever seen.
Bow | insta tiktok
The obvious reason is that I see so much of my current, but especially younger, self in him, but I also love him because to me, he is the character in TMA who goes through the most growth and comes into himself. I love seeing his journey of self discovery and emotional strength.
Kaedan | tiktok
He became a comfort character immediately. His patience, his sweet nature, the way he stutters when he's flustered (just like me,) it all felt like a cool breeze in the fire that is the horror that is TMA. His life and traumas mirror my own, and the way he comes out of it with kindness and an unexpected fierceness is amazing to me. The way he underhanded Elias AND Peter impresses me constantly.
Alex | tumblr tiktok
He is my husband and I adore him.
Slush/Hailey | insta tiktok tumblr twitter
To me, he is the heart of The Magnus Archives! Martin is always showing his most human side to those around him and never lets the horrors around him stop him from being a good person. Like so many on this zine, I see a lot of myself in Martin Blackwood. There's so much of myself I see in him, yet there's so much more I want to be. He's kind and thoughtful. He's soft, but he finds his courage and shows that he can be quite tenacious and clever! He's constantly underestimated, especially by himself, but shows them up with confidence and sass. He doesn't let the horrible things that have happened to him make him hard and is never afraid of being his true self. I also find our relationships with the Lonely incredibly similar. Essentially, it's been quite a long time since I've found a character that is so much like myself, and gives me hope that I can also make the same changes in my life as him to grow and become a better person. Hopefully that doesn't include being stalked by a worm lady.

As I see the word around me turning pink (or, in some cases, purple), I've decided that it's time to make a sequel to that tma post. Yes, I'm at episode 20. No, I'm not okay (I promise). Perhaps, I need therapy. Anyways, enjoy:
The Magnus Archives but I've met the fandom (and am even more confused)
There's an Archivist (you have to use the capital letter if you want to survive), his name is Jon,sometimes Jonathan and sometimes Jalapeño.
He is also somehow the author of the podcast, and the guy speaking. I don't know how. Nothing feels real anymore.
Apparently, he brings the romantic side of the podcast. I'm glad. He should think about bringing the "makes sense" side too.
#JusticeForMartin2024
Get. Sasha. And. Tim. Some. Fucking. Representation.
There's Gerard Keay, who doesn't have anything to do with Gerard Way (I checked), and I love him.
He's also very dead. My point still stands.
WHERE IS THAT FUCKING HOMOPHOBIC VASE WHY DON'T YOU WANT ME TO UNDERSTAND YOUR INSIDE JOKE, WHY?
There's a guy named Evan Lukas, whose name reminds me of another guy. Was it James Lukas? Peter Lukas? George Lukas? Not a single idea.
Five people told me to be scared of the Mikes.
Who are they?
Is that a sect? A typo? A secret level you unlock once you understand what that vase joke refers to?
There's a secret link between everything.
Is it that every one of the stories involves being scared of something, and being alone?
Wait. Nevermind. That's a horror podcast, people are usually scared in these. I'm trying to be logical here.
I miss Gerard Keay.
OH WAIT WAIT SORRY I DIDN'T TELL Y'ALL THAT JALAPENO CAME OUT OF HIS RECORDING CLOSET TO TALK TO A MADAM. THAT REALLY DISTURBED HIM AND HE HAD TO LOCK HIMSELF AGAIN TO RECOVER, BUT I'M PROUD OF THE PROGRESS HE MADE
Michael is not okay. Do they need help?
I don't know their pronouns, and people answered with really disturbing and unhelpful things. Could someone help?
I kinda like Michael. Even if they're blonde.
Unless they're part of the Mikes. I have a bad feeling about the Mikes.
Uhh lots of blood, spiders, worms, death, spooky nights, people being alone, eyes everywhere, insanity, blood sacrifices, the Unknown, and evil books.
Oh, and drugs. Very important, the drugs
Leaving you with that, hope I didn't miss a very important point. May the stars shine in your direction, or whatever.

⚠️ Warning ⚠️: for those who don't know what The Magnus Archives is, it's a horror pod, so in this post will be mention of fears, quotes and images that could be disturbing or sensitive, please be careful
Here's part 2.
Also, here's a TMA playlist I made
-------------------------📼
The Vast
It is not the fall that kills you.
Tumblr media
The sky ate him. (MAG021)
Fear of our own insignificance in this universe, of losing yourself in too much space, as well as heights, falling and open spaces.
The Spiral
It is not what it is.
Tumblr media
I am the throat of delusion incarnate. (MAG101)
Fear of madness, that your world isn’t right, that your mind is lying to you. It deals with deception, lying, deceiving the mind and senses.
The Eye
It sees you.
Tumblr media
It stares into him, and it stares out of him, and he is falling into the devouring eternity of its pupil. (MAG120)
Fear of being watched, exposed, followed, but also the drive to know and understand, even if your discoveries might destroy you.
The Desolation
Feed your flame or it will feed on you.
Tumblr media
But there are some things you just have to accept that in the end they’ll cause you pain. (MAG089)
Manifestation of pain, loss and unthinking or cruel destruction.
The Dark
Do you know what lurks in the dark?
Tumblr media
The blanket never did anything. (MAG 86)
It is the primal fear of the dark and the unknowns regarding what lurks within it.
The Web
Your will is not your own.
Tumblr media
Mr. Spider doesn't like it. (MAG081)
Fear of being controlled or trapped without knowing it, of your will not being your own, of being manipulated.
The End
Maybe you'll dream.
Tumblr media
The moment that you die will feel exactly the same as this one. (MAG094)
Fear of death, as well as the cruel and unstoppable end of things.

I know you’re well out of your hater arc, but I’ve got nowhere else to put this discovery: I Speedran tmp transcripts out of curiosity, and read the ending. It’s, uh…
It ends with Sam getting iseaki’d to the TMA universe— right after getting attacked by ‘The Archivist’ at hilltop road.
Why were they at hilltop road? Another character, Celia, is *from* the TMA universe, but was sucked through the TMP one— but the ‘gap in reality’ keeps calling her back— but she doesn’t want to because she still thinks the apocalypse is still going on, so she brought Sam to Hilltop to push him in and ‘reset the balance’. The Archivist (very obviously Jon, but not jonny VA) arrives before she can, starts extracting a statement from her about her time in a Stranger domain, and Sam just.. tackles Not-Jon through. Then it Just Ends

so one thing we love doing sometimes is just seeing the kinds of non sequitur ideas we can start building together and seeing if anything comes of it - cause sometimes it DOES
a few months back we became briefly fascinated with the game voiced of the void, yearned to do something with that kind of setting. astrology-coded research center in the middle of nowhere, spooky going-ons amidst the daily life of maintaining yourself and all the equipment around you? we wanted very badly to write about this kind of stuff
naturally we started with sambastian, because we fucking love those dorks. but we didn't really see anything to do with them there. like yeah they're sun and moon coded but we didn't have any inspiration laying there by itself
so of all things we thought of scott, from monster prom! he's this random fixation character we have where we aren't really invested in the series on such a serious level, but we ADORE this goofy werewolf boy and specifically one ending you can get in the first game - where you get lost on your way to prom with scott, and you instead spend the night stargazing and you realize that scott would probably love to be an astronomer
and with that, we have the perfect chance to write polycule sambastian!
we love making these guys poly (see: latest chapter of Tell Me I'm Alive) but we don't tend to ship them with anyone in-source. abby's awesome but we love characterizing her as their mutual best friend who pretends to be sick of the lovebirds she's always hanging out with. we're also just too gay for our own good so we default to shipping them with a crossover werewolf instead
anyways! an afternoon of brainstorming led us to a surprisingly scary setting, in which these three boys are effectively lost out here in the middle of nowhere without any chance to go back home. scott's the one who actually works at this place - doing god knows what during work hours, and then conducting his own research in most of his spare time - while sam and seb are here only because a lucky visit to their long distance boyfriend turned into "sorry, no one's allowed to go home until further notice" and suddenly they're just... abandoned here. weird shit happens every day, the boys are so worried that they sleep in shifts and make sure they only ever leave the base in pairs or all together. it's increasingly clear that There's Something Going On Here but throughout it all they find comfort in quiet domesticity, as sam and seb explore this surprise vacation home and scott shares in the discoveries he makes about this greater universe
it all exists floating around in our head rn as this kind of coherent idea of a story, but we've yet to give a solid shot at writing it. mostly because we've never seriously attempted horror before, and we should probably do some reading on that to find inspo before we trust ourselves to tackle a project we're so passionate about
already TMIA is a huge lesson in how we even write fanfic, finding our voice and figuring out what we wanna do with a story - but this exists in tandem with it and our other big sambastian project, as we fumble through different fics and figure out what we wanna do with each story
also this setting's working title is cryptid fic but that quickly grew outdated so we desperately need something more thematic to call it
any horror reccs by chance??? we need to dissect a few pieces of media to help figure out what we're aiming for, and while I love TMA to death I don't think it's equipped us for this project

Just had a depressing thought
How the hell did Lucretia not lose her God damn mind between the time she erased everyone's memory and sent them on their way to starting the Bureau of Balance and even beyond that? Like, I lived in a small house with 9 other people for a good few years, and when I went to college and moved into the dorms there, one of the things I had the hardest time dealing with was the utter silence I was left in. My roommate moved into the dorm late because of rooming and organizational issues on the university's part, and then her mom didn't want to pay for her to stay in the dorm in the second semester, and they didn't move anyone else in with me. Among the many other issues I was having, the silence and loneliness was crippling in a really major way, and I had friends I was with at every chance I got to be with them. It was the most social year I had ever had, and I was still hardcore struggling with the fact that I had to go home to no one.
Lucretia didn't even have anyone to hang out with or talk to at all ever until she met Maureen and Lucas and started the Bureau. And even with having as many people on the base as she did, she still had to go home to no one. I just about lost my God damn mind in my situation, how. The fuck. Did she do it??? And for 10-12 years????

One of my favorite meta things about the Stolen Century is how Griffin really thought he could cover 100 years of backstory in two episodes lmfao Like, as someone with ADHD, I understand how hard it is to figure out how long something is going to take, and I underestimate how long I'm going to need to do tasks and finish projects all of the time, but like, even if he wasn't expecting to get as deep with it as they ended up doing, the absolute confidence he had going in that he could cover 100 years in 2 hours, like, king there was no way but I admire how over confident you were about that lmao

Angus really did have a big day on the Day of Story and Song. Like, first the Director had some shady shit going on with the Relic disposal chamber, then a strange man hops out of Taako's bag whom Taako and Merle claim said the Bureau is bad, then there's the discovery of the baby voidfish, then the Director has guards take them to a room where she is kneeling over the balls that had contained the Relics and is channeling energy out of the undestroyed bell into her staff, then she talks mad shit about coming from another reality with tres horny bois, the guy whose name is Barry, and some person named Lup who is dead(?) while Taako and Merle are trying to keep their heads from exploding, then Davenport can actually talk and was captain of this past mission this whole time, then Magnus comes barging in and he can see the absolute chaos of the apocalypse outside, so he tries to barracade the door while the others are going down memory lane, then the others start debating about leaving everyone to the forces outside versus putting up a shield that would still end up destroying the world in a manner that suggests they've had this argument exhaustively before, then they get attacked and BOOM a lich comes out of Taako's umbrella who is apparently Lup who is apparently his sister, then Lucretia disappears and Davenport wants him to help find her even though he still has no clear idea of what the fuck is happening, then he hears the story and song and suddenly gains the knowledge of their 100 year journey and the impending end of the world, then he meets up with the others again when he and Davenport can't find her only to find Lucas is also not dead, then Lucretia turns up, a crystal shows them a possible future, and Taako knew the answer to save everything all along, then he's expected to help fight against a world ending evil force, and then FINALLY they defeat the Hunger, and he's got time to process the absolute wild day he just had.
And just like, I feel like probably around the time he found out Lucas was still alive he was just like:

Balance: Don't split up the party or you will die
Amnesty: Splitting up the party is tentatively okay depending on what you're doing except it did, in fact, get someone killed
Graduation: We're going to refuse to split up as much as possible because we're best buds
Ethersea: If we don't split up and do wild ass stunts before somehow reconvening back at the ship then what even is the fucking point

My #1 post of 2022
What I like about the scene where Magnus spins mind in Wonderland is that Griffin chose the lesser of two evils because it would have been really fucked to make him choose whether or not he forgets Julia which most definitely would have resulted in a no and forced them to take another two spins without much deliberation, but I think it also paints an interesting picture in-game of the characterization of Lydia and Edward. They believed that love wasn't a strong enough force to sustain them anymore and that it wasn't as important, and I think that's also reflected in how they thought the worst memory to take from him would be the person who caused his suffering and not the person he loves. Because to them, suffering is more important now, and it's how they sustain themselves, so why wouldn't it be the thing sustaining him too?

Terminology related to the human jaw, or jawbone, is as varied as it is experimental. Without a precise field of study, the research into the different parts of the jaw has often been left to individual experts and commonly used language which may be confusing to those unfamiliar with the topic.
Most often the jaw is split into two categories: the mandible and the maxilla. But within these two categories lies a large range of parts, which can be further complicated by the use of English or Latin based terms; and the differences between oral anatomists as well as casual observers.
For example, in a previous article we discussed the use of the term ramus, which is the Latin term for the part of the mandible that connects the body and the angle. This is the most common way of referring to this particular part of the jawbone, and the same term is also commonly used for other parts along the base. However, there is variance in the way professionals refer to the ramus.
Similarly, the term “joint” is widely used to describe the hinge-like joint between the two sections of the mandible. But many other terms are also used to describe this feature, ranging from “articulation” to “temporomandibular articulation” (TMA).
This variation in language has left the field of jaw-related research and clinical practice without a universal set of terms to refer to common features. Even different dental schools and institutions may use different terms to describe the same thing. If terminology is not unified, it leads to confusion between professionals and misinterpretations of clinical and research studies.
The lack of unified terminology also has an impact on the research conducted into jawbone related conditions and on the accuracy of clinical diagnosis and treatments. Without a shared set of terms, its difficult to build upon existing research and to develop an evidence-based understanding of jaw biology or pathology.
To tackle this issue, professionals who work with the jaw are actively striving to unify terminology through the use of entities and classification systems. These systems allow for a consistent language to be used between clinicians and researchers which helps to reduce errors and misinterpretations. But as new discoveries are made and terms become more widely accepted, so too will the inconsistency with language.
The world of jawbone related terminology is therefore currently in an experimental phase as professionals strive for a consistent language used to describe the features of the jaw. Until then, continued research, and a shared understanding of the terminology, will be essential for any progress in the field.
