Legit this is so good, if you hate the new dash download this.
I created a Userstyle for the Chrome/Firefox Stylus Extension that reverts the new dashboard to the old format. This took a lot of tweaking and it's not perfect at all, but if anyone wants it I'll be uploading it soonish now!
You need to have Stylus installed. So if you don't have it:
Install the Stylus Firefox Addon or the Chrome Extension (You can install Chrome Extensions on Edge as well)
Once it's installed into Firefox/Chrome/Edge you can proceed with adding this style or any other.
To add the style, follow the instructions:
Go to this link: https://userstyles.world/style/11286/old-tumblr-dashboard-july-2023
Click on "install".
Style will open a tag with it and in the left side you'll have a button that says "install style", click there. (Step-by-step copied from the lovely dorothyoz39 who wrote this in a reply!) If you don't want the sticky header you can remove the labelled script at the top of the css below /* Sticky Header*/
Be sure to check for updates regularly, I'm fixing things as I go! And because everyone keeps asking here's how to support me on Ko-Fi https://ko-fi.com/pixiel !
To update click the Manage button on Stylus and click the check for update button below then click again to install! If you experience any bugs let me know - feel free to edit it yourself as well! P.S. This userstyle works just fine alongside Xkit!

NEW UPDATE: 27/04/24, 2:15AM BST v11.6
v9.6: Moved the Following | For you | Your Tags to below the create a post panel. Fixed the Accounts Menu! + Bugfixes V10.3: Patio compatibility. Added a way to hide the Patio button & "patio feedback?" button, just search for patio in the code and follow the instructions! v11.0: Temporary Chat feature fix after Tumblr broke it, fixed some positioning issues and j/k scrolling!
UPDATE (12/04/2024): YOU CAN NOW UPDATE YOUR OLD TUMBLE DASHBOARD AGAIN!! After letting the server rest everything is now fixed. I will be leaving the Tampermonkey Backup still up but it will have less-frequent updates to remain a backup so please use the Stylus version!
If anyone wants to help test out a new feature (Post width, dashboard positioning, etc) it would be super helpful! Read more about it here and shoot me a message!
THE CREATOR OF THIS USERSTYLE SUPPORTS THEIR TRANS SISTERS. WE'RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER!
Thank you dragongirlsnout for all your work on Dashboard Unfucker it was amazing working towards the same goal of fixing this website with you! As a Trans person (Agender, They/Them) I am saddened by the issues trans women have been facing on this site and the women who have been bullied into leaving Tumblr for good. I wish the best for you in all that you do next!
Check the readmore for the changelog, custom code & known issues!
----- Known issues:
Only two columns in Masonry view. Unfixable, Tumblr creates columns based on monitor size, if I try adding another column (because it doesn't exist) it just perpetually loads on screen. Tempfix: Zoom out in chrome/firefox and it adds more columns
Search bar doesn't appear on some pages (like viewing a post), this is because Tumblr removed the search bar on those pages completely. Unfixable!
Tumblr has ONCE AGAIN CHANGED THE ACCOUNTS MENU. The menus are now shorter and have less information on them. This is unfortunately permanent. I do not see any way to fix this. Unfixable.
If you want people's icons to stay fixed in place, instead of scrolling with the dashboard add;
.FtjPK .AD_w7 .JZ10N, .RYkKH > .nZ9l5 { top: 0px !important; position: relative !important; }
to the top of the code! You can also create a second userstyle by clicking the 'tumblr.com' part of the link in 'Write new Style' and adding the code in there! That way you don't have to worry about re-adding it when you update.
Tumblr media
Solved issues: (Update)
Menus need to be manually closed SOLVED! in V.4 and updated in V.5! The menu & icon WILL scroll with you if you have removed the sticky header CSS, however, clicking anywhere on screen will make the Menu disappear still.
Masonry view in searches is now fixed!
Resized Messenger Chat Box!
NEW UPDATE 16/08/23, 23:55 BST v6.5: Figured out how to reorganise the icons in the header. Let me know if you have any problems with it and make sure to update your Userstyle! Some icons are hidden with Display: Block; you can hide more icons with this method!
Tumblr media
Solved issues p2
Brought back SOME of the icons for Tumblrs latest update - Unfortunately, this does not bring back user icons for Reblogged posts! Make sure to yell at Tumblr for removing the icons as well as the horrible dashboard update here! v7.5 Fixed icons for all posts and put them back where they came from!
v6.9.6.9 (I promise this is the last funny number): Fuck Off Buggy The Clown Update + All languages support for the old header design!
v7.0: Fixed the search bar for tumblrs new collections feature, so it looks like the original search bar!
v8.0: Fixed masonry view icons, hidden the reblog icon on dashboard icons, fixed icons in blog viewport
V8.1: Fixed issue with icons not working on soft-refresh & with endless scrolling disabled - be sure to complain to staff!
v9.3: Changed a few things with the search feature, I also made the posts less round.
UPDATE2 11/04/2024: SO We mighhtttt have overrun their servers. 😅 I'm getting a 500 Internal Server Error every time I try to fix it or upload it as a new style - the massive influx of people downloading the userstyle was probably too much. The Tampermonkey backup on Greasyfork works just fine though! Probably easier for a lot of people migrating anyway! UPDATE 11/04/2024:: My code has broken on Userstyles.world, (it is now fixed as of 12/04/24) until this is fixed I have created a Tampermonkey Backup Version of the Userstyle so feel free to use this version if you've broken yours!

hiii! (hope you're having a great day)
I'm genuinely confused right now about the call out post and the answers you're giving about it
I'm seeing in the call out that the person is talking about a theory of internal colonies and you're not really addressing it in your responses
The posts you're making about the whole situation are coherent and I do agree with them so I am asking genuinly if you could "debunk"? (not sure how to ask that better) the whole internal colony thing because it seems to be the point of disagreement and i'm not seeing clearly here :,,(
i mean 'the call out post' in question is just a comprehensive list of anyone who has ever interacted with tumblr user mozilla-firefucks so i'm not really interested in engaging with it or acknowleding it because i think it is quite silly.
as for the central question / discourse itself -- i am indeed familiar with the theory of the internal colony! i think it is a useful theoretical tool capable of providing useful analysis. but the argument that the internal colony model of usamerican antiblackness precludes Black usamericans from being beneficiaries of usamerican imperialism in any way isn't true. 'colonialism' and 'imperialism' are sets of economic relations, not intrinsic attributes. you do not have a spiritual aura or code flag setting you as 'imperialist' or 'imperialised'. and imperialism is not one monolithic relation either, right, it is comprised of multiple sets of overlapping and interconnected relations, such that you can have multiple different relations to imperialism in different contexts.
as such, it's not denying the brutality of usamerican (or indeed global) antiblackness to point out that Black usamerican citizens continue to be usamerican citizens. this does not protect them from antiblackness, nor is it a moral failing on their part (benefiting from imperialism is simply a result of interfacing with the consumer market that broadly benefits from imperialism -- it's not an accusatory finger saying 'you did an imperialism'), nor is 'beneficiary of' in anyway synonymous with 'perpetrator of' or 'perpetuator of' of.
but i've already discussed how, for example, the simple fact of being able to buy a cheap banana is the direct result of usamerican imperialism. the same is true for coffee, chocolate, or gas, commodities which are kept monstrously cheap for the usamerican market via brutal exploitation and military intervention in the global south. or, for example, any cheap good with 'made in china' or 'made in vietnam' on it, because manufacturing capital has been exported to those countries because of unequal exchange. and people who buy these cheap products are benefiting in that moment from usamerican imperialism -- which again is neither a moral judgement nor a negation or denial of any of the ways that the USA might oppress those people.
so i don't know -- i feel like the core disagreements are either a misunderstanding of what it means to benefit from imperialism, or a or a dualist interpretation of imperialism / colonialism, where one can only be 'colonizer' or 'colonized' in totality across all systems conceived of as one totalizing whole machine of omnidirectional imperialism with a strict hard line between beneficiaries and sufferers. and at the end of the day it just doesn't work like that

Linguistics Jobs: Interview with a  Director of Conversation Design
This month’s interview is with Greg Bennett, a Director of Conversation Design at Salesforce, a customizable, cloud software platform for customer relationship management. In this interview, Greg discusses the culture shock from transitioning to industry from academia, and how his discourse analysis training has impacted his work and career in the tech industry. You can find Greg on Twitter @gabennett45 or on LinkedIn.
This last post of 2022 is also the last in this series, and we'll have more in 2023 about the future of lingjobs!
Tumblr media
What did you study at university?
I hold a BA in Linguistics and MS in Applied Linguistics from Georgetown University. I also studied Japanese language and culture during undergrad. My academic focus was on interactional sociolinguistics—particularly, how users manipulate textual stylistics to convey contextualization cues during synchronous, text-based chat.
What is your job?
I founded and lead the Conversation Design team and practice at Salesforce. I oversee strategy and workflow for an international team of Conversation Designers who craft conversational experiences that “sound” like Salesforce and train language models to recognize myriad varieties of language input from users. I spend much of my time discussing with various leaders across the business the resource investment strategy for conversational apps and features that position Salesforce at the forefront of the market; scaling our resources and tools to expand my team’s sphere of influence across our ever-growing lines of business; and championing my team’s impact on our bottom line within and beyond the company.
How does your linguistics training help you in your job?
I never expected linguistics to be as vital or central to my role as it is now. I’ve always had my discourse analytic mindset running in the back of my mind to interpret conversation and stancetaking in real time in all of my past roles. As a leader at Salesforce, I certainly maintain that approach to developing relationships with stakeholders across the business. However, since conversational AI is fundamentally about language as an interface for a technological system, I find myself referencing every aspect of my training as a linguist to contextualize and strengthen my proposals for a conversational solution—from generative syntax when debating the ‘conversationality' of a conversational app’s brand name, to acoustic phonetics when determining the pitch range for a voice app in 2019, to discourse markers when creating cohesion between turns of text-based chat with our chatbot templates—I basically spend all day, every day, using linguistics to form connections and drive product strategy.
What was the transition from university to work like for you?
It was a huge culture shock! My first role outside academia was as a UX researcher at Microsoft. I was coming off the heels of having a limit on the amount of photocopies I could make in the Department of Linguistics to entering an office where food was catered every day, Post-Its could be used ad nauseam with nary a pang of guilt, and every time I had a research finding to articulate, it had to be done in a slide as opposed to a fleshed-out paper (to say nothing of my joy at being able to photocopy in color at the office). Everything required fewer words, had to be finished in a fraction of the time, and had to look way more visually appealing than anything I was ever expected to do in academia. I had to go beyond simply stating, “this is what I found in the data” and evolve towards, “we as a business should do y in order to make a market impact of z because the data say x.” (In industry, always lead with the “so what” and follow up with the data—something I learned from profoundly expert and gracious women in UX who taught me how to adjust to corporate priorities, read the atmosphere of a business, and succeed at advocating for oneself and one’s craft at the highest levels. I wouldn’t be where I am now without them.)
Do you have any advice do you wish someone had given to you about linguistics/careers/university?
My advice would be that your title and your degree aren’t the defining characteristics of who you are and what you do. When I was in academia, I deeply enmeshed my sense of self and self-worth in my status as a graduate student, and when I took a break after the MS, I had to mourn the death of a huge part of my identity. I had no idea who I was without the Department of Linguistics at Georgetown. But, after a lot of therapy and soul-searching, I came to the realization that even if I didn’t have the title of “student” anymore, that didn’t mean I was no longer capable of learning, just like even if I no longer had the title of “Director of Conversation Design,” it wouldn’t mean that I would suddenly become incapable of leading product strategy for conversational AI. Look inward. Titles, accolades, insignia—they’re distractions. Figure out what truly motivates you, what fulfills you and align to the elements of those qualities that present themselves in whatever role you pursue.
Any other thoughts or comments?
A quick overview of the company I work for and the evolution of its conversational technology: Salesforce is a publicly traded company that provides customer relationship management software as a service in the cloud. In 2017, the company released the Einstein Bot Builder, a declarative platform for Salesforce administrators to create and deploy text-based chatbots to their own customers for service use cases. Since then, it’s grown into an expansive feature ecosystem, ranging from chat analytics to reusable chatbot templates. The Bot Builder, coupled with Slack, which Salesforce acquired in 2020, opened up the opportunity for me to establish a design practice by which Salesforce can create unified, consistent, and inclusive conversational chat experiences based on sociolinguistic research.

How to go to the Movies – a LibGuide for Film Enthusiasts @ Pratt
Project Description – LibGuides are a content management system used by libraries to create subject guides for their patrons. The goal of our project was to create and edit a LibGuide of our own, catered to a defined user group. After settling on an audience, we were then set to identify a range of relevant and useful print or electronic resources, limited to the Pratt Institute Libraries’ and the New York Public Library’s research collections. By virtue of these limitations, it was notably important to be aware of knowledge gaps within the bibliographic space – and work collaboratively to fill them. Above all, we were meant to keep the user in mind when building and contextualizing our LibGuide.
Methods – Based on group discussions, we ended up catering our LibGuide for Pratt students looking to engage in community-driven film experiences. The COVID-19 pandemic had a profound impact on public spaces for film consumption and production. This was an issue we found ourselves experiencing at the time, so the topic was considered to be culturally relevant. Our LibGuide would serve as a centralized hub where film enthusiasts at Pratt could engage with film discourse and seek out specialized events or communities within New York City. Pratt students were selected as our primary user base since the resources provided were predominantly accessible to them. Our team met weekly to discuss and develop our topic, and review each other’s resources. I conducted a literature review to curate primary, secondary, and tertiary sources related to the practice and theory of homemade films; intending to draw from DIY origins by measuring the space in context with radical filmmaking and counterculture. Tabs were organized based on resource type and arranged alphabetically in an attempt to reject hierarchical presentation.
My Role –  This was a collaborative project completed with classmates Sam Irwin, Gibson Field, Peter Kaiser, and Nene Villalobos. We divided up workload based on personal interest. I took the lead in creating the DIY tab of our Libguide, and assisted with interface design.
Check out the LibGuide here | Read our reflection here

Learning Outcome Achieved – Foundations of Library Science
Rationale – Providing access to information is a central component in any LIS practice. Both Library and Archival professionals may be tasked with creating online reference guides geared towards a specific collection or community. In designing this guide, I aggregated traditional and non-traditional information sources and curated a broad selection of materials pertinent to our topic. In doing so, I gained a comprehensive understanding of how information design enables or inhibits access, authorizes certain narratives, and contributes to users’ perception of cultural, social, and political dimensions. I grew to situate myself within a position of power and privilege which enlightened my approach to information collection, organization, and access.

Learning Outcome Achieved – User Centered Services
Rationale – Building a comprehensive LibGuide is entirely dependent on our ability to enrobe a user-centric perspective on retrieving information. Designing our resource guide included consideration of diverse user needs in terms of format and content. Working in a culturally responsive manner, I sought to amplify historically marginalized voices within the independent filmmaking industry and challenge western centrism. This practice was informed by Fiona Blackburn’s arguments around cultural competence and whiteness in libraries; where conversation and curation become influenced by cross-cultural provision. I also included multiple communication formats – books, journals, podcasts, photographs, videos, and films – to enable various learning preferences. This experience strengthened my ability to create a dynamic and multifaceted information experience that situated our users at the forefront of our work.

Also, technically speaking, because a lot of those accounts will likely be inactive at this point. If you aren't actively culling the accounts who haven't posted in a few months, then over time the people you're newly following sort-of balances out with the people who've drifted off the site.
So you can follow +300 people, but in a lot of cases that list has slowly built up over years, and a third to half of those 300 are essentially inactive by this point because they haven't posted in months or years.

News Portal
Tumblr media
The Evolution of News Portals: Shaping the Future of Information Access In today's fast-paced digital world, the way we consume news has undergone a remarkable transformation. The rise of news portals has revolutionized how information is disseminated, enabling users to access real-time updates, diverse perspectives, and a plethora of topics at their fingertips. This article explores the significance of news portals, their key features, benefits, challenges, and future trends that are shaping the landscape of journalism.
What is a News Portal? A news portal is an online platform that aggregates news articles, reports, and multimedia content from various sources. Unlike traditional newspapers or television broadcasts, news portals provide a centralized space where users can access information across multiple categories, such as politics, health, technology, entertainment, and sports. This broad scope makes news portals an essential resource for keeping the public informed and engaged.
Key Features of News Portals
Real-Time Updates One of the defining features of news portals is their ability to provide real-time updates. Breaking news alerts and live coverage of events keep users informed of the latest developments as they happen, allowing for immediate engagement with current events.
Diverse Content Formats News portals offer a variety of content formats, including articles, videos, podcasts, and infographics. This diversity caters to different preferences, enabling users to consume news in a way that suits them best.
User-Friendly Interface Most news portals are designed with user experience in mind. Intuitive navigation, search functions, and categorized sections allow users to find relevant information quickly and easily, enhancing accessibility.
Comment and Interaction Features Many news portals encourage user interaction through comments and discussions. This engagement fosters a sense of community and allows readers to share their opinions, enriching the discourse surrounding news topics.
Personalization Options News portals often provide personalized content recommendations based on user preferences and browsing history. This feature enhances user engagement by presenting news that aligns with individual interests.
Benefits of News Portals
Accessibility and Convenience With the ability to access news from anywhere with an internet connection, news portals have made information more accessible than ever. Users can read or watch news on their devices, whether at home, work, or on the go.
Variety of Perspectives News portals aggregate content from various sources, providing a range of viewpoints on issues. This diversity helps users gain a more comprehensive understanding of current events and encourages critical thinking.
Timeliness The speed at which news portals can update content is unmatched. This immediacy ensures that users are informed about the latest happenings, from local stories to global events.
Cost-Effectiveness Many news portals offer free access to their content, allowing users to stay informed without the financial burden of subscriptions or purchasing physical newspapers. This democratizes access to information.
Global Reach News portals can reach a global audience, allowing users to access international news that might not be covered by local media. This global perspective is invaluable in an increasingly interconnected world.
Challenges Facing News Portals Despite their many advantages, news portals also face several challenges:
Information Overload With the sheer volume of information available, users may experience information overload. Sifting through countless articles and updates can be overwhelming, making it difficult to identify credible sources.
Misinformation and Fake News The rapid spread of information can lead to the dissemination of misinformation and fake news. News portals must implement fact-checking measures and promote media literacy to combat this issue.
Monetization and Sustainability While many news portals offer free content, finding sustainable revenue models can be challenging. Dependence on advertising can lead to sensationalism or biased reporting, impacting journalistic integrity.
Competition for Attention The digital landscape is crowded, with countless news portals vying for user attention. Standing out in this competitive environment requires innovation and unique content strategies.
The Future of News Portals As technology continues to advance, several trends are likely to shape the future of news portals:
Integration of Artificial Intelligence AI can enhance news portals by improving content recommendations, automating fact-checking processes, and generating personalized news feeds. This technology can help create a more tailored user experience.
Emphasis on Multimedia Content The demand for engaging and visually appealing content is growing. News portals will likely increase their focus on multimedia storytelling, incorporating videos, podcasts, and interactive graphics to attract users.
Subscription Models and Memberships To address revenue challenges, many news portals are exploring subscription models and membership options. These models can provide users with exclusive content while ensuring financial sustainability for the portal.
Enhanced User Engagement Future news portals may offer more interactive features, such as polls, surveys, and live discussions, to encourage user participation and foster a sense of community among readers.
Focus on Local News As global events dominate headlines, there is a growing interest in local news. News portals may increasingly cater to regional audiences by highlighting local stories and issues, bridging the gap between global and community reporting.
Conclusion News portals have fundamentally changed how we access and engage with information. By providing real-time updates, diverse content formats, and a user-friendly experience, they empower individuals to stay informed about the world around them. While challenges such as misinformation and competition exist, the future of news portals looks promising, driven by technological advancements and a commitment to quality journalism. As these platforms continue to evolve, they will play an essential role in shaping public discourse and fostering informed communities in an ever-changing digital landscape.

Exploring the Fediverse: A Deep Dive into Activism's Decentralized Frontier and its Impact on Social Change
Activism has always been a driving force for societal transformation, pushing boundaries and advocating for justice on various fronts. In today's rapidly evolving digital landscape, the emergence of decentralized platforms has revolutionized the way activists engage with communities and mobilize support for their causes. This essay delves into the intricacies of the fediverse, a network of interconnected decentralized platforms, and its profound implications for activism and social justice movements.
At the core of the fediverse's appeal for activists is its decentralized architecture, which stands in stark contrast to the centralized control prevalent in mainstream social media platforms. By operating on a distributed network of servers, the fediverse offers a level of autonomy and freedom of expression that is unparalleled. This decentralized structure not only safeguards user privacy and security but also mitigates the risks of censorship and manipulation commonly associated with centralized platforms.
Within the fediverse ecosystem, activists have a plethora of platforms at their disposal, each catering to different preferences and priorities. Mastodon, known for its user-friendly interface and robust community features, has emerged as a hub for activists seeking to amplify their voices and connect with like-minded individuals. Pleroma, with its emphasis on customization and flexibility, provides activists with the tools to tailor their online experience and engage in targeted advocacy efforts. Diaspora, known for its focus on privacy and data ownership, appeals to activists concerned about digital rights and surveillance issues.
One of the key strategies employed by activists on the fediverse is the strategic use of hashtags. These digital markers play a pivotal role in organizing discussions, raising awareness, and mobilizing support around specific causes and campaigns. By leveraging hashtags effectively, activists can ensure their content reaches a wider audience and sparks meaningful conversations within the community.
Moreover, the fediverse's emphasis on inclusivity and diversity has fostered a culture of empowerment for marginalized voices and grassroots movements. Unlike centralized platforms where algorithmic biases and popularity metrics often dictate content visibility, the fediverse provides a level playing field where every voice has the opportunity to be heard. This democratization of discourse not only amplifies underrepresented narratives but also encourages intersectional collaboration and solidarity among diverse communities.
The innovative features and tools available on the fediverse further enhance its efficacy as a platform for activism. Content warnings enable activists to share sensitive or triggering content responsibly, respecting the diverse experiences of their audience. Moderation tools empower community members to self-regulate and maintain safe spaces for constructive dialogue and engagement. Community guidelines and codes of conduct ensure that the fediverse remains a welcoming environment that upholds principles of respect, inclusivity, and mutual support.
Additionally, the fediverse's open-source ethos fosters a culture of collaboration and innovation within the activist community. Developers and activists collaborate to create and customize tools that address specific needs and challenges faced by activists on decentralized platforms. From encrypted messaging protocols to decentralized organizing platforms, these innovations empower activists to navigate complex digital landscapes and maximize their impact on social change efforts.
Embark on a Journey into Digital Empowerment with 'Unraveling the Fediverse: A Journey into Decentralized Social Networking.'
Explore the revolutionary landscape of decentralized online communities in this captivating book. Dive into the heart of Web 3.0, where the Fediverse empowers users and redefines social media. Discover federated networks, inclusive design principles, and transparent content discovery algorithms. Witness the rise of decentralized funding models and envision a future where connectivity thrives and user sovereignty reigns. Join the digital revolution and shape the future of online communities.
In conclusion, the fediverse represents a dynamic frontier for activism, offering a decentralized infrastructure, community-driven engagement, and innovative tools for advocacy and social change. As activists continue to explore and harness the potential of decentralized platforms, the fediverse remains a catalyst for meaningful dialogue, collective action, and positive transformation in the digital age.

China Creates LLM Trained to Discuss Xi Jinping's Philosophies
Tumblr media
The President's Office of the Republic of Maldives, CC BY 4.0 https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0, via Wikimedia Commons China's Cyberspace Research Institute has unveiled a new large language model (LLM) and conversational AI designed to promote and discuss the philosophies of President Xi Jinping. This AI, dubbed XiBot, is currently undergoing internal testing and has not yet been released for public use. XiBot is built on a comprehensive collection of government documents, enabling users to query them through a generative AI interface. Among these documents is material from "Xi Jinping Thought on Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era," a book encapsulating the president's core political philosophies. This book is widely available in China and can often be found in airports frequented by Chinese tourists and members of the Chinese diaspora, translated into various local languages. Xi's thoughts are heavily featured on Chinese government websites and in news outlets. Important speeches delivered by Xi are promptly reproduced and disseminated online. Therefore, the creation of Chat Xi-PT is a natural progression for the Chinese government, aiming to ensure Xi's philosophies are accessible through modern technological mediums such as chatbots. While generative AI is known for occasionally producing inaccuracies or "hallucinations," this may be less of a concern in China, where Xi's perspectives are considered authoritative and unchallengeable. This controlled environment could minimize the political risks associated with AI-generated content. A humorous suggestion from The Register posited that a similar AI could be developed for North Korea's leader, Kim Jong-un, termed Kim-Jong AI. In reality, the concept of creating AI representations of notable individuals, whether contemporary or historical, is already being explored. Dr. Simon See, global head of Nvidia's AI Technology Center, has indicated awareness of AI avatars created from recordings and images of loved ones. He also speculated about the potential to develop generative AI replicas of historical figures like Napoleon, utilizing their letters and documented histories. Discussing this concept with family led to mixed reactions, with some expressing concern over the potential for recreating and spreading the ideologies of history's most notorious tyrants. Such concerns are particularly relevant in the context of social media, where any expression of these ideologies could quickly gain traction and enter mainstream discourse. However, in China, any unauthorized AI or content that could be construed as criticism of Xi is swiftly censored. The strict regulation ensures that only government-approved AI makes it online, preventing the dissemination of unauthorized or potentially subversive material. Read the full article

That post with the Tangled gifs was from 2014 how did you find that lmao?? xD
Tumblr media
[Asked in context of me finding this post from 2014.]
Okay, so, I'm genuinely glad someone asked because I'd already been planning to make a post about this. Tumblr code should be vivisected in a medical theater in front of an audience of hooting Victorian students.
So, to open with the TLDR and go into detail afterwards: it turns out if you turn off infinite-scrolling, you can abuse the way tumblr URL updates to bethesda clip your way back into deeper sections of your dashboard or your Drafts folder, but not your own singular blog's published side.
Step 1: Settings -> Dashboard -> Endless Scrolling. Turn off infinite scrolling. Don't worry, you can turn it back on when you're done experimenting.
Step 2: Scroll down to the bottom of your dashboard, or to the bottom of your drafts.
Tumblr media
[image_id: a picture of my Drafts folder, with the 'next page' button predominantly displayed. the url at the top is www(dot)tumblr(dot)com/dashboard/blog/(blog name)/drafts. the post seen has a visible 'posted on' timestamp from 2 days ago. end id.]
Step 3: Go through 'next page', then look at the url.
Tumblr media
[image_id: another picture of my Drafts folder, this time at the top of the next page. with my cursor hovering over the url box, it highlights the full url: https://www(dot)tumblr(dot)com/blog/(blog name)/drafts?before_id=741844798759124992. the only post you can see has a visible 'posted on' timestamp from 2 days ago. end id]
Now, if I remember what I read somewhere right, that huge number at the end is a Unix timestamp. Look up what those are yourself, but what you need to know is that handy-dandy 'before_id' section in the url? It means it starts the page at the first post that comes before the indicated timestamp.
Makes enough sense, right?
So, now we get to Step 4: Cut off 2-3 numbers off the end of the timestamp in the URL, and hit ENTER.
Tumblr media
[image_id: another picture of my Drafts folder, this time at the top of the next page. with my cursor hovering over the url box, it highlights the full url: www(dot)tumblr(dot)com/blog/(blog name)/drafts?before_id=741844798759124, different from the prior id's URL by missing '992' from the end. the only post you can see has a visible 'posted on' timestamp from February 23, 2020. end id]
If I tried to use endless scrolling to get that deep, my computer would've already exploded. But because turning off infinite scrolling means the url starts updating...you can fuck with it. The smaller the number, the farther back you go.
As I said, it also works on your dashboard too!
For dashboard it doesn't seem to be "?before_id="; instead "max_post_id=" is what fills the url for some unknown reason when you click 'next page', but it does the same thing. So, write out www(dot)tumblr(dot)com/dashboard?max_post_id=74184479875912409 and see yourself jump back a bit in your dashboard.
Then, if you start shrinking that number...
Tumblr media
[image_id: A picture of my dashboard, highlighting an ATLA gifset post. The post's original timestamp is Oct 2012, and the reblogged timestamp is August 2014. Highlighted by my cursor is the url: https://www(dot)tumblr(dot)com/dashboard?max_post_id=94200403764. end id.]
So...yeah, use this trick to scare the shit out of your mutuals when you start reblogging stuff that they themselves last reblogged nearly a decade prior, or to dig deep into your Drafts folder if you're like me and its way too large a number to scroll to the bottom of using infinite scrolling!

However, within the intricate tapestry of digital communication lies a unique thread—the Chinese version of Telegram—that has woven its way into the fabric of China's online landscape. Check their site to know more details telegram中文版下载
The emergence of Telegram's Chinese version marked a significant development in China's digital ecosystem. In a country where online censorship is stringent, Telegram offered users an alternative platform for communication and information sharing. By bypassing the Great Firewall, Telegram provided a gateway to unrestricted access to information, enabling users to connect with the world beyond China's borders.
One of the key features that set Telegram apart from other messaging apps in China is its focus on privacy and security. With end-to-end encryption and self-destructing messages, Telegram provides users with a level of privacy that is unparalleled in the Chinese market. This commitment to security has made Telegram a popular choice among users who value privacy and anonymity in their online interactions.
Beyond its privacy features, Telegram's Chinese version has also emerged as a hub for community building and content sharing. From interest-based groups and channels to vibrant online communities, Telegram provides users with a platform to connect with like-minded individuals and engage in meaningful discussions. This sense of community has fostered a sense of belonging among users, making Telegram a staple in China's digital landscape.
Furthermore, Telegram's Chinese version has played a significant role in facilitating communication during times of crisis. Whether during natural disasters, public health emergencies, or political unrest, Telegram has emerged as a vital tool for disseminating information and coordinating relief efforts. Its real-time messaging capabilities and group chat functionality have enabled users to stay informed and connected, even in the face of adversity.
However, Telegram's journey in China has not been without its challenges. The app has faced intermittent disruptions and blockages by Chinese authorities, who view it as a threat to their control over the flow of information. Despite these obstacles, Telegram has remained resilient, with users finding creative ways to circumvent censorship and continue using the app.
Looking ahead, the future of Telegram's Chinese version remains uncertain. As China's digital landscape continues to evolve, the app may face increasing pressure from authorities seeking to maintain strict control over online discourse. However, as history has shown, the desire for freedom of expression and access to information is a powerful force that cannot be easily suppressed.
In conclusion, Telegram's Chinese version has emerged as a digital lifeline for users seeking privacy, security, and unrestricted access to information. Its impact extends beyond mere communication, fostering communities, enabling crisis response, and challenging the status quo of online censorship. As we navigate the complex terrain of digital communication, Telegram's Chinese version serves as a reminder of the enduring quest for freedom and connectivity in an increasingly digital world.

Does hypermedia go by a different name nowadays?
ChatGPT
Hypermedia, as a concept, is still relevant today, especially in the context of the World Wide Web and multimedia content. However, the term itself might not be as commonly used in everyday language or in academic discourse as it once was. Instead, concepts related to hypermedia are often discussed within broader contexts such as digital media, interactive media, multimedia, or new media.
For example, when discussing interactive websites that combine text, images, videos, and other multimedia elements, people might refer to them simply as "multimedia websites" or "interactive websites," rather than specifically using the term "hypermedia." Similarly, in academic settings, researchers might use terms like "interactive narrative," "digital storytelling," or "multimedia storytelling" to describe the intersection of narrative with multimedia elements, which are key aspects of hypermedia.
In summary, while the term "hypermedia" is still relevant and understood, it is often used in conjunction with or subsumed under broader terms that encompass various forms of multimedia and interactive digital content.
